Would love to hear Mercyful Fate, King Diamond's first band. Don't Break the Oath is one of the best albums ever released. Also while Mercyful Fate/King Diamond is super influential to the black metal scene, I wouldn't really call the paint that King Diamond wears corpse paint. No ties to black metal other than the Satan lyricism in Merycful Fate.
I love the production and mastering on this, I find a lot of modern metal's production really sterile and soulless. Terrasite is an example of it done well though.
If you like bell hits I highly suggest listening to Polish black metal band MGLA. Exercises in Futility IV or V are awesome tracks that highlight great bell work.
No, if you'd approach in a modern way to the mix, you would compromise from some other aspects like the guitars priority (soundwise), or smth else. 80's (and in this rare situation 90's) has it's own priorities on composing and arranging which creates the old school joy. You change it, you loose it (like modern days have already lost..) Great reaction, cheers!
