Sodom could have been as successful as Kreator but Tom Angelripper (vocals/bass) has not been a fan of actively touring in recent decades, so Sodom does occasional tours and sporadic shows... 'Agent Orange' in 1989 was a classic and they went full death metal in 1992 w/ 'Tapping the vein'... But original drummer Chris Witchhunter (Christian Dudek) was fired by 1993 and he passed away from alcoholism in 2008... Sodom's last few records have been stellar and Tom Angelripper has been the only consistent member... Sodom was a trio most of their career but recently added a 2nd guitarist. Destruction was also a trio most of their career w/ Schmier (Marcel Schirmer, vocals/bass) and Mike Sifringer (guitar)... and they were more straightforward thrash metal... Their early records didn't capture their live sound and they did split up in the 90's after Schmier quit the band... Thankfully, he returned in 2000 for a comeback album 'All hell breaks loose'... w/ a succession of drummers... Destruction's new records are much superior in quality to their 80's output... Check out songs like - 'Vicious circle - the seven deadly sins'... 'Spiritual genocide'... Destruction has been actively touring worldwide and recently became a quartet... but founding guitarist Mike Sifringer quit Destruction in 2021 and are recording and touring w/ guitarists Damir Eskic and Martin Furia. Tankard is famous for being a beer-drinking thrash metal band (Their 2000 album was titled 'Kings of beer') and have been consistently recording and doing shows since the 80's.
Happy New Years Kira. The German/Teutonic big 4 is overlooked. Kreator and Sodom are both really good and I’d recommend a full album listen of Sodom’s Agent Orange and Kreator’s Coma of Souls.
Has an old school metal head.... I grew up on all of these bands in the 80s and I cannot tell you how truly awesome it is to see a somewhat overlooked Collective of great bands being given some real respect here. Thank you so much for everything you do, there's a lot to unpack in these bands and a lot of great music in there as well
Yeah they are really sweet, saw them in Denmark a couple of years ago and I bought a T-shirt. I still think that thrash from Germany (and Switzerland) are the best thrash bands.
Awesome vid! Love your taste in music. For even more of a left field flavor of thrash, you should check out Voivod and Coroner. Killing Technology for Voivod and No More Color for Coroner.
People are obviously going to vote for the most popular songs and for a first time listen to the bands, the choices were probably ok but there is a lot in each band's catalog to explore that is just as good or even better. Hopefully you will do more of a deep dive on Kreator or Destruction at some point.
Agent Orange is ameircanized Sodom.Persecution Mania is the best Sodom record and it is pure german thrash metal.Pleasure to Kill is also thr best Kreator record and Eternal Devastation the best Destruction album
Yeah, persecution mania has imo perfect sinister nuclear climate, heavy and incredible sinister bass sound and aggressive thrash tempo. It's also mine first and best Sodom album which was my first jump to more extreme metal genre after regular metal bands like iron maiden etc.
Pleasure to Kill was my introduction to German thrash and absolutely should have been the track she listened to. Unfortunately, I can't really listen to Kreator anymore. Good, thrashy verse, but followed by soft melodic chorus, rinse and repeat, damn near every song. Metal by numbers. I miss the days when they wrote pure thrash songs. 100% agreed on the best albums by Sodom and Destruction. Those 2 are still heavily played in my rotation (especially Eternal Devastation. Cheers Kira....so stoked you're reacting to the Teutonic 4🤘🤘🤘! Been listening to Sodom n Destruction since the early 80s. Hope you enjoyed them like I do. Big ups from Southern California🤘🤘🤘Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year. Just recently stumbled across your channel. It’s fun watching you go on this journey of discovery. As far as German thrash you can definitely hear the influence of American thrash, particularly Slayer & Metallica. Kreator’s album “Pleasure to Kill” is a masterpiece. It’s up there with “Reign in Blood”.
Kreator has become a real global player in their later years, pure excellence! Tankard is indeed one of the most underrated Bands in german thrash, I must say, as being a big fan of them since day one of my metal life 🖖
Live in Scandinavia - but lived in Australia a bit when I was younger - seen Destruction playing in Sydney - remember people swinging off the rafters and stage lights - total chaos.
Tankard is probably the most underrated of these four?! They really get your joints moving!! Many people seem to forget that they were still making records after this Chemical Invasion album. And they're still rocking. Their album covers may not be the most attractive, but the music is worth it. So let's raise our Tankards and play loud some Tankard!! 😎
Tankard is either loved (germany, eastern europe, south america) or hated (rest of the world). In my area here in germany songs like Alien, Beermuda, (Empty) Tankard, Space Beer, Chemical Invasion and Freibier where played on every party in the 90's
@@JubaDeMetalAlumínio yeah, that may be, biggest reasons why pll don't get into them that much/easily, even thou there is more lyrical themes than just beer..
When you think about it more, they're actually more of a crossover band than a pure thrash metal band. There are lot's of other elements in the song structures included as well. I think there's even a harmonica used in one of their songs. Himmel!
Kreator was always my favourite of the bunch, but I do like all of them quite a bit. I seem to recall some later Destruction being much more interesting? Both Kreator and Destruction have recently put out new music, I believe, as in, within the last year or two? I'm going from memory, so if anyone needs to correct me, please do.
Destruction had their last album "Diabolical" in 2022, but their new album "Birth Of Malice" will be out on 7th of march. Kreator had their last album "Hate Über Alles" also out in 2022. They are also supposed have their new album this year / next year, but nothing is known yet. Destruction stayed true to Old School Thrash (except for the two albums where their singer "Schmier" had left the band). Kreator experiemented with Industrial Metal ("Renewal") and Gothic Metal ("Endorama") in the 90's.
Happy New Year! Interesting thing about most of these is that they started off with demos/eps which were infkuential to black metal more than thrash. In the Sign of Evil by Sodom is a big influence like Bathory's first four albums (all of which are incredible btw). The Teutonic Big 4 are generally more consistent than the American counterparts, especially in the experimental 90s (except Destruction, but we don't talk about The Least Successful Human Cannonball here).
Sodom and Kreator sound more like Slayer with Death style vocals, Tankard are like Anthrax with harsh vocal, and Destruction are their own thing. Keator would get in a big 8 of Trash Metal with Testament, Exodus and Overkill. Parts of Agent Orange sound like Angel of Death by Slayer.
I'm so glad you listened to these bands, Germany has some of the best metal out there in various subgenres and they definetly shine a lot in thrash. Mike Sifringer from Destruction is one of my favorite guitarists of all time, you should check out more of their songs. Their first three albums (Infernal Overkill, Eternal Devastation, and Release from Agony) and their first EP (Sentence of Death) are some of my favorite thrash out there, and they also have some pretty amazing recent stuff like The Antichrist. I hope your opinion on them changes eventually lol, I really love Mike's riffing and I find him the most interesting. I'll also wait happily for more Sodom and Kreator reactions, I also love these two bands so much, can't wait for a complete Pleasure to Kill reaction.
Kreator are like fine wine, they just got better and better over the years and by now they're definitely up there with the likes of the Big 4, at least in my opinion. We recently saw Anthrax, Testament and Kreator together and Kreator were the ones we liked best. I recommend seeing them live, they're one of the best live metal acts you can get.
Nice that those bands get some love here too. Thanx for that! Bestial Invasion from Infernal Overkill 1985, Chemical Invasion 1986, Agent Orange 1989, Extreme Aggression 1989, Enemy of God 2005. The years make a real difference here in sound, composition and technical abilities. So it was a bit unfair to choose a 1985 track of Destruction in this series. The good side is that this Destruction song was a really good example of an underground thrash sound back in the days. Kreator "Pleasure to Kill" is the same raw and simple and I am sure you would not have like it as much as the two you have choosen of Kreator. Kreator had shift in playing and production in 1987 and improved it later more and more. Recommendations: KREATOR "Pleasure to Kill" (1986), DESTRUCTION "Curse the Gods" from "Eternal Devastation" (1986) (sick sound and style), SODOM "Obsessed by Cruelty", TANKARD "Zombie Attack" or "(Empty) Tankard" (1986) (those songs are fun fun fun). Those were the raw, rough, simple and straight forward underground sounds of the earlier years of German thrash metal. Everything later had way better quality at least in sound. My favourites from later KREATOR works are the Songs "Some Pain Will Last", "Renewal", "Phobia" (their club hit), "Violent Revolution". I am not familiar with later works of the others so someone else should recommend.
One of my favorite German thrash bands is Paradox. Their second album Heresy is great. If you like change ups, try listening to Sabbat - The clerical conspiracy
The leadsinger of Sodom (Onkel Tom Angelripper) has an amazing xmas album wich is a every years must during Xmas season. Sadly only 1 or 2 songs in english on it but hey: nothing beats headbanging to Xmas songs.
Interesting that Kreator are one of the biggest metal bands in the world in 2025, but it's no wonder given their musicality. The new Kreator albums are brutal, fast, aggressive and yet melodic, playful at the highest level
Love your enthusiasm. Great video. 🤘🏻 Black metal is the best genre but It’s definitely not “catchy or fun” in the traditional sense of the words. It’s an acquired taste, but once you get it, you’ll know what I mean.
First time I heard Bestial Invasion was on Speed Kills compilation vinyl back in 1985, I was in fifth grade, blew me mind and change my life forever. (and all other bands on that record too)
I think, you NEED to hear 'By Inheritance' by Danish band Artillery. Maybe one of the best European thrash albums ever. Btw: I really enjoy your rection videos! Keep on!
yaaay you don't know how I was waiting for this, german classic thrash :D I recommend songs from the "Eternal Devastation" by Destruction and "Zombie Attack" by Tankard
Thrash, till death!!!! One of the best genres of metal. Just watch ‘handle with care’ a live nuclear assault recording in London back in 89 I believe. So much energy. I sure wish I was a teen in them years!!!
Kreator is keeping the metal alive \m/ Very strong discography over the years. Even the experimental albums were good in their own way. These days they are still kicking a**es and taking names and showing the newer generations how it's done.
Tankard are more on the funny side of metal - that is why they sound like that. Just watch the video for "Space Beer". 😜 They also did metal coverversions of famous german hits under the name Tankwart (gas station attendant)... From Kreator and Sodom you picked "ok-ish" songs, but they have many much much better ones. Your picks from Kreator are not even on my Spotify likes... Their newer albums "Gods of Violence" and "Phantom Antichrist" are even completly in my likes list - and some single songs like of course "Phobia", "Black Sunrise", "Violent Revolution", "Lucretia My Reflection", "People of the Lie" or "Betrayer". Think you could like the both named albums, because of many tempo- and moodchanges.
Their lyrics of course have the funnier side but it rarely reflects to the music. What I mean is that their compositions mostly don't sound any more come comedic than other thrash bands. Take "For a Thousand Beers" from this same album for example, the title is funny but I don't think the music is. And they made some albums in the nineties (that are actually my favorites from them) where they concentrated on heavier topics. "Wheel of Rebirth", "Dancing On Our Graves" and "Mechanical Man" are some of the band's best songs for me.
For those about to thrash : We salute you!!! Hello from Germany!🇩🇪 Love you channel and you journey to conquer the Metal world! So nice to see someone getting infected ...!🤘😉
I knew in first place Kreator, then Destruction, Sodom and Tankard the last (but by the moments I don't know much about the Tankard). Sodom is a great band, you can hear any song from any album and it is very sure you'll enjoy it a lot.
24:18 when your little sister finds your metal cassettes... Remember! when you listen to metal you must have a bad face! aaaagrrrrhh! 🐹🤘 Happy New Year 🎉 😂
Razor. 👍 Violent Restitution is probably my favorite thrash album of all time. Killer production, chainsaw guitars and gonzo vocals. The whole album is just pure f*cking thrash.
There are some really amazing gems in the thrash catalog that often get overlooked in the form of Flotsam and Jetsam, Forbidden,Whjplash,Cyclone Temple,Overkill, sooooo many to enjoy.
Man, couldn't agree more. Forbidden in particular are my favourites, and Znöwhite/Cyclone Temple were really unique. But there's so many more awesome thrash bands. Dark Angel, Death Angel, Defiance...the list just doesn't end. And although it might be the less popular (or economically expedient) thing to do, I do so appreciate when reactors actually check out things that are genuinely new to them, try to dig deeper into genres and kind of educate themselves (and thereby their viewers) about music they didn't know before. Which is why I appreciate this channel so much. ❤
@MARSHOMEWORLD I'm actually friends with a former band member, BUT in my defense, I met him many years after I became a fan. 😁 "Act of God" is a forgotten classic. I mean, "Something Wicked (This Way Comes)? Come the fuck on.🤘🏼
What is your opinion on the german thrash band, Accuser? Without hearing them, i ordered 6 remastered collectors ed cds of theirs, and then after playing them all once, i wasn’t as impressed as i thought i’d be. Now i want to sell the cds.
Thanks for your reaction. I only knew 2 of the 4 bands by name, I never wanted to hear the music. Your curiosity has rubbed off on me a bit and I don't think they're that bad anymore. I think I will actually take a closer look at Kreator, so thanks for the inspiration.
I was so looking forward to this reaction as Kreator, Sodom and Destruction along with Canada's Voivod were the four pillars I built my temple on back in the eighties. Starting with Bestial Invasion was pure genius because this hits like an ice pick through your brain however the problem with Sodom and Kreator is the songs on their opening couple of albums were very unique and messy and raw which to me are a must because this original sound was the reason why they call this music thrash. It has a very punk feel even though it's metal. Also this early sound is very different to the tracks you heard today. Because these bands were very young making the genre as they went full of crazy youthful passion lacked a little in musical ability and the producer didn't know how to mix this new crazy sound so to a lot of people it is very rough. But to me it was absolutely perfect because early eighties UK punk was getting stale then along comes this stuff that was raw, messy and crazy just like what punk was but with metal heaviness and structure which was awesome. I recommend Kreator - Riot of Violence and Awakening of the Gods and Sodom - Outbreak of Evil and Sepulchural Voice. Tankard for some reason get lumped into this quartet however they were more of a German beer drinking band that instead of playing waltz music played thrash. The fourth German thrash band for me was a band called Protector. They were big in Europe but because they were similar to the other three they didn't hit like the others. Also as I said earlier for me Voivod from Canada is an absolute must and being thrash, weird and have a truly unique sound that followed a conceptual story that evolves with each album and I will bare my arse in Bourke st if you don't love them. I love your openness and enthusiasm and are an actual true reactor which is rare these days. You react like people reacted back when this stuff first hit and I love it! 🙂
Protector wasn't realy that big here in germany. Maybe because they played a mixture of Thrash and Death Metal. (Blastbeat, double base) They relocated to sweden sometime and are now are pure Death Metal Band, with only one of the original members remaining nowadays. I would say No.5 in germany was Holy Moses. Their female singer Sabina Classen was a presenter in german television of a metal show and she was one of the first singers that used Death Metal growls while the music is still pure Thrash. Accu§er is probably No.6 here is germany. They still play Old School Thrash, They are really big in germany, but where always on smaller record labels, maybe that's why nobody knows them outside of germany. Also worth mentioning is Mekong Delta, but it's more a mixture of Thrash and Progressiv Metal. Exumer wasn't big in germany, but soemwhat famous in the US. Maybe that's why the relocated to the USA. Other german Thrash bands like Deathrow, Paradox, Repent, Temple Of The Absurd, Vendeta, Warpath, Rapture or Space Chaser are probably not know outside of germany.
if u wanna understand why sodom and german thrash is regarded so well you should listen to obsessed by cruelty, its a very special song, the whole album is in fact.
Nice one, I'm here for Sodom, just saw them live a view days ago and its always a freaking blast! If you want to dig deeper I can recommend the following, Ausgebombt, Nuclear Winter, Little Boy and The Crippler
I still remember when me and my buddy bought that Destruction album when it came out and went back to his house and cranked it up. Still have that Vinyl, man I'm old. LOL
Its been a lot of fun following your metal listening since the first vids on rainbow! I think you might like the genre of epic metal, its pretty underrated but if your interested check cirith ungol, manilla road, warlord, and manowar
i'm going to be honest, i got into thrash bc of throwdown. the socal hardcore band. my favorite thing about it is the blurry lines the bands share between genres. like speed, bestial, crossover, etc.
Never been a huge fan of Kreator, Sodom or Destruction, which led me to not ever checking out much from Tankard, But I liked that song too. Might need to look into them more. 👍
As an alternative to the Big 4 of German thrash, I'd also recommend checking out Protector, who I'd say have been severely underrated and overlooked. A bit more eclectic than those 4, but more consistent in the quality of their discography. A Shedding of Skin might be a good album to start with.
I think the easy route from here is to listen to Live Kreation so you get all the best songs from Kreator, because they have an extensive catalogue. Similarly, for Sodom it'd be Live in Bangkok, such a fun concert, and both live albums with a great production.
Happy New Year! 2025 Kira!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Wishing you an absolutely smashing year ahead, filled with incredible music, headbanging moments, and all the success you deserve. Kreator had shift in playing and production in 1987 and improved it later more and more.
Recommendations:
KREATOR "Pleasure to Kill" (1986), DESTRUCTION "Curse the Gods" from "Eternal Devastation" (1986) (sick sound and style), SODOM "Obsessed by Cruelty", TANKARD "Zombie Attack" or "(Empty) Tankard" (1986) (those songs are fun fun fun).
I read that Title SO WRONG so I'm here again and love that reaction of yours and the coming of a new metal head. Keep up the good work. \m/
Rock on! Hehehe
Check out female fronted German thrash metal band Holy Moses. One of the best metal female vocalists ever - Sabina Classen.
I second that,Sabina is a beast!
One of my favorite German thrash bands is Paradox. Their second album Heresy is great.
If you like change ups, try listening to Sabbat - The clerical conspiracy
Tankard is so much fun
I live for these bands
'Extreme agression' is a good choice.
Kreator are one of my favourite thrash bands of all time.
House of Leaves is such an amazing and underrated book! I was thrilled to see it in your background, haha.
Great video!
Civilsation Collapse, From Flood Into Fire, People Of The Lie, Enemy Of God, Tooooormeeeentor
Tankard was / is such an amazing live act, they know how to throw a party. Their live records are among the best!
Love your enthusiasm. Great video. 🤘🏻
Black metal is the best genre but
It’s definitely not “catchy or fun”
in the traditional sense of the words.
It’s an acquired taste, but once you
get it, you’ll know what I mean.
Happy New Year ! Great selections.
🤘❤️🇨🇦
First time I heard Bestial Invasion was on Speed Kills compilation vinyl back in 1985, I was in fifth grade, blew me mind and change my life forever. (and all other bands on that record too)
I think, you NEED to hear 'By Inheritance' by Danish band Artillery. Maybe one of the best European thrash albums ever. Btw: I really enjoy your rection videos! Keep on!
It's MINE by inheritance, and noone can take it awaaaay!
yaaay you don't know how I was waiting for this, german classic thrash :D I recommend songs from the "Eternal Devastation" by Destruction and "Zombie Attack" by Tankard
Oh boy if she thinks this is fast wait until someone mentions Dark Angel, Sadus or Morbid Saint.
I saw Kreator live the other week, they had blow up demons and guys with orc masks on with flaming torches. they were hilarious and bags of fun.
Happy New Year…more Kreator please…
This video's awesome! Love seeing your take on the music. :)
I really love the picture of the little birdies in the background! ❤
Happy New Year chum, or even, more appropriate to this post; Frohes Neues Jahr!! 🤘
I like how the drums always sounded like they were played by a human back then. Nowadays everything sounds so perfect and plastic-y.
I think you should listen to Kreator´s best: Coma Of Souls :)
Hello from Germany!🇩🇪
Love you channel and you journey to conquer the Metal world! So nice to see someone getting infected ...!🤘😉
Its great that you follow the lyrics... they were really important, reading and singing along was a big part for most heads back in the day !😅
💀👍🖖🔥💪🐱😜
Yeah, Agent Orange is more popular with Americans. The song too.
Great shirt, Conan = caveman battledoom,,,
I knew in first place Kreator, then Destruction, Sodom and Tankard the last (but by the moments I don't know much about the Tankard).
Sodom is a great band, you can hear any song from any album and it is very sure you'll enjoy it a lot.
Kreator are so great. Try pls "Tormentor" or "Betrayer". I like the old stuff more, it's a little bit more raw!
The way you attack/approve the music the music you never heard is quite unique, I love it ❤
24:18 when your little sister finds your metal cassettes... Remember! when you listen to metal you must have a bad face! aaaagrrrrhh! 🐹🤘 Happy New Year 🎉 😂
Love it. thanks. You are fun to watch
You have to check out some Canadian Thrash like Razor, Voivod, Annihilator, Obliveon, Infernal Mäjesty...
Razor. 👍 Violent Restitution is probably my favorite thrash album of all time. Killer production, chainsaw guitars and gonzo vocals. The whole album is just pure f*cking thrash.
@folnevar One of my favorite albums also, top 10 for sure. Those vocals are absolute insanity
@TheAsphyx666 I could not agree more... bonus round extra 10 points for the znowhite reference
Finally the day came! Yeah! Great reaction Kira! Happy new year
Let’s go! Gotta check out the German industrial metal scene too!
Oh you're feelin' it....the neck pain...one of us! one of us!
Thrash preceded death metal by two years (Kill Em All in 1983 and Seven Churches in 1985).
Onslaught is pretty good
My favourite Kreator song is on Enemy of God, the track Voices of the Dead. So damn good
The scream is fire 🔥
Happy new year kira.
Kreator was a great influence on death metal
Sodom and Destruction too, not only for death metal but for black metal.
if u wanna understand why sodom and german thrash is regarded so well you should listen to obsessed by cruelty, its a very special song, the whole album is in fact.
Blues intro on Tankard and then suddenly goes into Trash.
I'd say, about the fast stuff that's one tempo throughout, developing an appreciation for oldschool hardcore helps. It was the case for me
Nice one, I'm here for Sodom, just saw them live a view days ago and its always a freaking blast! If you want to dig deeper I can recommend the following, Ausgebombt, Nuclear Winter, Little Boy and The Crippler
Yes! Thrash till death! Thanks, Kirawasa! Kreator rules! Cheers!🥂🤘💥
I still remember when me and my buddy bought that Destruction album when it came out and went back to his house and cranked it up. Still have that Vinyl, man I'm old. LOL
So cool you listen to these Real metal bands.Love your Reactions! Your Awesome!!
The best way to start a New year, i love It. Give another chance for Destruction, try Eternal Devastation album. Happy new year!
You definitely need to check out Coroner, all their albums are different but excellent in their own right.
As much as I love Agent Orange (the album) by Sodom, M-16 (also the album) in my opinion is a lot more memorable and enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Considering the whole discography, SODOM are the kings of german thrash!
Greetings from Germany! Destruction, Kreator, Rage, Celtic Frost, Necronomicon those were my bands. what a great time, man I'm old 🫢
Its been a lot of fun following your metal listening since the first vids on rainbow!
Kreator - Tyranny. A song from his experimental period 🤘🏻
Crowbar 😍I also recommend the two last albums from a band from my country Mgła if you would like to listen to a good black metal band . Cheers
Your videos are a true gem, and I can't wait to see what epic content you'll bring us in 2025. Cheers to an amazing year! 🥂
Cheers to you!🍷🍸🍾🥂
Here's to a cracking year ahead and proper good times. All the best!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!!
Saludos desde Chile sur america🔥🤘🇨🇱
From Destruction I love Cracked Brain: They brought in a second guitar and a new vocalist with a new type of voice.
Oh, and I LOVE Tankard and how they do not take themselves seriously... they are consider the "drunkards of teutonic thrash" (listen to "A Girl Called Cerveza" (beer is a driving force to them haha).
Great bands!!!! Kreator & Sodom are my favorites….Agent Orange is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥….Enemy of God is great!!! You missed a great opportunity however to check out & be in awe of the songs “Betrayer”, “People of the Lie” “Impossible Brutality”, “Phantom Antichrist” & “Toxic Trace”….go down the rabbit hellhole of Kreator amiga 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
The newer Kreator stuff goes more into the Epic category. Super polished. I saw them a few months ago with Testament it was incredible.
As an Conan Exiles Player i'm more jealous for your cool Conan-Shirt 😀But yeah this music was the good stuff back in the late 80s 🙂
