you don't have to use evolution chamber and roach warren to wall of your natural. I have actually never done that and my highest win rate is with zerg. Usually my natural is defended with a couple of spines and spores, 1 queen, and a portion of my early game army.
Thank you for this. I am so slow compared to this though! It is because I just don't really understand what is going on, or why I am doing things, never mind why I am doing them in this order. This then means I cannot learn the order properly. It has taken me 10 minutes to get to 30 supply...
Io it’s fine to be overwhelmed, this game is really hard. The section on end goal is important to see why you’re doing all of this: winter is trying to get you to a specific 200 supply army, while also being safe along the way. If you’re struggling with hotkeys, overlords, drones and larva injects, search for content on Zerg mechanics. I like the old day 9 newbie Tuesday videos for that. glhf!
i think i watched this video more than 30 times. also sometimes i let it play while im playing and i start his game 10 seconds earlier, so its like hes telling me what to do in my game. i love this video, keep up the great work.
A minor hint for beginners - instead of playing against no opponent, play against a "very easy" AI opponent. It's effectively the same (you will get a trivial attack at around 6-8 mins) but the benefit is that you can practice scouting, overlord placement during the game and you will get APM and other charts/stats at the end.
I have always been afraid/overwhelmed with zerg, I have always avoided it, I always chose toss. Finally came back after many years and I am going to learn it. Thanks for taking the time to make this, I am studying these videos while at work and challenge myself to know every unit, macro/micro strategy, every strategy for every race, I am shooting for grandmaster. I am definitely not even bronze right now. I appreciate any/all tips and advice for this journey. Cheers.
Wow! I’m Zerg platinum in one night in my first night playing Zerg!!! Best tutorial ever! Thank you so much Winter! You made StarCraft fun for me again!
9:15 "It's better to have no money and plenty of larva, then plenty of larva and no money!" Now THAT is some Big Brain stuff right here! Anyway, thanks for the upload. I've been getting back to it a couple of days ago and this is very helpful!
OH MAN, i just used this build, not even like exactly the way u did it but just by creating my second base right away and then third i destroyed my opponent, i thought that by building something else then spawing pool would decrease my army value and make it hard to defend myself but even after he sent his reapers i was able to fully destroy him! my understanding of the game has simply expanded! Thanks!
Hey man. Wanted to thank you for this video. I've done this a few times now and already improved a lot (not hard to do when it was taking 18+ min to max out lol). I'm down to 11 min and It's worked really well in vs. so far. Hopefully can get down to 9 soon. Thanks again!
good guide, I started playing yesterday and I'm already maxing out between the 9 to 10 minute mark... now, I just need to figure out what all those other buildings do beside the spawn pool, hydra nest and roach warren lmao
Same here. I'm a beginner as well, and with this strategy I can beat "Elite" Terran, Protoss and Zerg every time. I tried playing on the ladder but I am in Australia which means I have to play on the Asian server, and I keep getting hammered by South Korean players who somehow seem to produce adepts or reapers within the fist minute.
@@thenayancat8802 This is definitely a beginners guide. However, like he said in the video, you shouldve played at least a few AI matches, and preferably the campaign as well, before trying to jump into this guide or playing multiplayer. This game is not easy and you cant just jump right in even with a guide like this and expect to understand whats going on
@@Darkrender I've played a handful of campaign missions and skirmishes, but I still have no idea what half the techs and units are, and the fact that 90% of the content on SC2 assumes you already understand the game makes me not bother trying to get into it.

I have never played sc2 before but I have been watching for a long time. I am now going to learn the very basics and optimize maxing out on roach hydra as fast as possible, then following your advice of just a-clicking the map then letting it go. I will post my results
Good guide, and I expect to try to do exactly what you teach here. I'm stuck on gold and hope this helps me. I'd like to point out, however, that it would be helpful to be able to see the production tab. So, I believe it would be better to comment on a replay instead of doing it live.
A useful trick I discovered for timing when to expand to your natural is to rally your 15th drone egg to you natural. By the time it gets there you will usually have between 300 - 350 minerals depending on the map.
Thank you for the guide! I finally managed to win my first match using the tips in this video. Now, I just have to do it all over again for the other races, and then learn more than one build order...
I was legit so scared to go back into PVP in this game, then I got into three games where the enemy took six minutes to take his natural. One of these guys was platinum. And no, they did not take a base somewhere else. One of these guys went directly into battlecruisers and tried to just into my main with a single battlecruiser at eight minutes.

Can I ask why you get the ling speed? In your recent series 100 APM to master I believe you mention at least a couple of times, that you are mostly getting 6 zerglings for safety at the beginning and there's no need for speed upgrade?
I played SC original for years. Just now starting 2 after a break from gaming. Nervous and anxious. Used to be very, very good. Now I'm a newbie its intimidating as fuck.
If you're stupid like me I would recommend turning the speed of the video down to 0.75 I still had to pause and go back. And yes I feel bad and so should you, but were trying and that's all you can ask for... Z
When Im playing 1v1 with zerg, if I stay in one spot and build army/defence they have time to build enough to destroy me. If I try to branch out like you do here I end up being destroyed because I have not an army at all, or not enough. Either way zerg seems to be too slow. Yes ima noob to anything but campaign.
I was using your Easy Terran build and I was beaten by a guy who was using your Easy Zerg build. He maxed out at 9 minutes and came to me when I needed 2 more minutes to max out. I'm Silver and he was Platinum. Is it possible to max out on Terran on 9 minutes as well? Or I just shouldn't wait and begin pushing as soon as I have Stim&Medivacks? I mean... it looks like, on Platinum, you can't turtle on your 2-3 bases until you maxed out at 10-11 minutes any more.
I usually get attacked or cheesed before 6 min mark, and I'm gold level. I have about a 50% win/loose ratio. I wish I could take the time and max out, but it isn't happening.
