Outlaws, Bandits, and Legends of the Wild West

- Опубліковано 10 лип 2024
- In this collection of true stories from the Old West, we’ll discuss George Parrot, aka Big Nose George - a lesser-known outlaw who had a noose around his neck more times than you'd believe. And that’s just half the story! You’ll never guess how this one ends! Afterward, we’ll hop over to El Paso for a legendary showdown between madams Big Alice Abbot and Etta “The Grasshopper” Clark before discussing the legendary gunfight in Newton, Kansas. And don’t forget about legendary Joaquin Murrieta - the supposed inspiration for the likes of Zorro and Batman. Was Murrieta a righteous freedom fighter or simply a charismatic bandit? Then we’ve got Ed Scarborough, a fearless lawman whose biggest enemies turned out to be himself and a rabid skunk. With cross-dressing, shootouts with bicycles, and daring prison escapes, Ed’s story is about as wild as the West gets. Following Scarborough, we’ll delve into the Colorado cannibal Alfred Packer and his eyebrow-raising story of survival. Finally, we’ll pay a visit to Winslow, Arizona, where an armed robbery by down-and-out cowboys resulted in a literal trip to hell, a bloody gunfight, and an Old West Lazarus rising from the dead for one last sip of whiskey! #history #wildwest #western

Let's get wild
This is honestly some of the best comedy woven in that I've heard in years. Reminds me of something you'd hear in S1-7 of the Simpsons, or like something Matt or Trey would write, a lot of lines reminded me of Baseketball quotes lol. They shoulda fired those writers on strike, and hired you smh
I wouldn't be listening if I were planning to fall asleep😊
From now on, that's what I'm going to ask whenever I meet new men: "How strong's your pimp hand?"
The name Greengoes. I know that may not be spelt right. But the story I heard of how that name came about. Is that the U.S. Calvary used to sing a song that was popular in the U.S. at the time they were coming in contact with more and more people from Mexico. The song was titled Green Grows The Lilacs a.very popular song that became something the calvary sang to fight boredom on their long trips across the land. So these people would hear this song long before they saw the soldiers. They would hear it as they rode by. They began calling whites Greengoes as they had problems with English words much the same many Americans had problems with Spanish words. Either that or over the years it was bastardized much the same as many Spanish words were.
Quanah Parker. Sounds interesting.
“Wild West Legends to Fall Asleep to”
I'll take it
@@WildWestExtravaganza you have a good voice, I'll listen to this tonight and will fall asleep to it and listen to the rest in the morning...I appreciate your work, ty
Every night and then I catch up the next morning as I drive to work. Great show.
Yep. And sleep rules. Therefore, this rules.
@@WildWestExtravaganza I like this for the windshield time. But sleep also. Just depends on when I see the new one.
Happily, I recorded an interview with my grandfather, including his youth running moonshine and his time in the Navy during WWII - you are 1000% correct about the need to preserve these oldtimers' stories!
Absolutely. I was thinking about starting a youtube channel where I interview elderly folks in nursing homes and retirement communities or just wherever I can do it. I think that would be fantastic.
@@JoshuaTraffanstedt Do it!
This has *very* quickly become one of my absolute favorites on YT.
Heck yeah
Gonna name my next x wife cold diggin. Showd up last week. Eugene should move, also 14 othr mfs.
@@WildWestExtravaganzaJosh your making history entertaining
Spot on! 😂🎉
I can't get enough of this channel.
I thought about doing a more academic UA-cam channel and thought about the wild west as the subject. I saw this channel and said this is perfection.
Wow thanks
This and Wild West Faces, are my favorite Old West channels.
Dear Josh,
I am an old man living in the deserts of Arizona today. I listen to your stories of the old west for entertainment and educational purposes and I enjoy them very much, thank you. I don’t know if you remember me but we have spoken a couple of times howdy do. My name is Don and your tale about Big Nose George reminded me of the time as a child when I crossed paths with a bag, a lampshade and 1 shoe.
I was born in Cheyenne in 1959 and I watched the world switch from the old to the new. My old man was a wanderlust and we were always packing up the Dodge to chase the latest star. It was the spring of 1965 and we were going to California on some wild scheme, it matters not for the story here.
We stopped in Rock Springs for gas and food and ware. I was all about the journey and I wanted to absorb all the sights and everything to see. I went to the lobby and looked in a glass case to see and discover what it was within. A Doctors case, a lampshade and 1 shoe.
At 6 years old I was shocked and amazed to learn that these parts of simple ware were indeed a man named George I just wanted to answer your question of the nipple. It was on the top of the ankle on the right footed shoe. I wanted to write more…..I just got out of the hospital and I am tired
Thank you, Don
Good info, Don! I hope you're feeling better
You should write a book Mr Don, of all your adventures and "schemes"! 😊 Prayers sent for healing.
born in 59, you are not an old man

@@remyvermunt8623 old is more a feeling than a number. If you’re in good health you might not feel old.
I wish my grandfather was still alive to hear your channel.
Me too
There's an old saying when a old person dies it's like a library being burned down
found this channel by searching for old west tales to fall asleep too.. this is now a channel i tune into regularly 😂
Heck yeah!!!
Same here! I enjoy his sense of humor. 😂
Kenny Powers telling Wild West stories is awesome!
This was the BEST podcast in the history of the wild west and podcasts!
Wow, thank you!!!
"Boot Nipples," are two things I never expected to hear in the same sentence. Subscribed, and thanks!
Welcome aboard!
When i gotta drive through the beautiful texas hill country i love listening to this channel. ❤
Gotta love the hill country
I really love the Wild West Extravaganza. The stories you tell are super interesting. The way you tell them is also entertaining. Your funny play-on-words and your quirky jokes make me 😂.
You have become my favorite UA-cam story teller!
Great work thank you.
I live in San Antonio, I would love to hear about the cowboys and gunslingers of this area...if you choose of course 😊😊😊
You might like the ones I did on King Fisher. He died in San Antonio.
I put this on because I woke up in the middle of the night and wanted something to fall asleep to. Instead, this kept me wide awake. I was laughing and thoroughly entertained, but wide awake. Just earned yourself a new subscriber 😅😅
Thanks! Hope you get some sleep tonight though
@@WildWestExtravaganza thanks! I won't be listening to your podcast while I'm trying to sleep this time 😂🤣
Awesome as always Josh. God bless bud.
Gracias
Definitely worth mentioning the work it takes to dig up all the history as well as composing and narrating. And the delivery ain’t bad either. Appreciate your efforts my friend.
Thanks for that!
I have no words for you, your the voice who keeps me out of my own head and therefore keeps me going right now. Thank you!
I don't take that lightly. Much appreciated.
As a big-nose-havin-guy myself, I have to admire George's schnoz.
Funny- I became a nurse bc I had always genuinely enjoyed listening/ hearing my elders talk about "back in their time". American History is my absolute favorite subject in history but mostly all of history in general has always fascinated me. 😊
"Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries" lmao 😂😂😂

" On this side of the bell" I ❤ your
way of telling a story with color on a subject. Great 🤠
Thank you!
Great stories Josh! I used to work in the bank that was being built when they found the bones. There’s an old telegraph pole planted on the central west lawn of the Carbon County courthouse to this day. The locals claim it is the original pole he was hanged from and that it was moved from Front Street to the Courthouse to memorialize the event. I met a grandson of one of the vigilantes. He said Parrot did get his hands free and clung to the rope as long as he could. Gruesome! Also, pretty sure that the shoes weren’t in the barrel. They were in the bank president’s office until the 1970’s when they were given to the county museum.
Good info!
That Ed Scarborough story is absolutely hilarious 😂
This was a brilliant compilation. The tale of Joseph Atrium was pure poetry.
Glad you think so!
another new video man all right my evening just got good

I’m glad you clicked too!
Love your Show Josh... You're the best FO🤠
REAL!
(Peppy La Pew😂)
Many thanks
I recently discovered your channel and I must say that I very much appreciate the detail of your work. It's all to common to stumble across so-called history channels that have inaccurate or false content with little or no research, especially when it comes to wild west content. I love your videos and you've earned my subscription. Keep on keep'n on!
Thank you very much!
Love your attitude towards big girls !
Ever since I've seen Deadwood for the 3rd time and stumbling upon this channel for a new background on Al Swearengen, I've been hooked on your content. Keep 'em coming Josh!
Thank you!
I love the 1800's, from the victorian lifestyle, wild west, and frontiersmen.
Tripping Daisy! Man, I just got blasted back 25+ years hearing that band name! I haven't heard, seen, thought of them for as long either. Used to love I'm an Elastic Firecracker too. I'm searching them out on YT music right NOW! Obrigado for the heavy nostalgia trip!
I wore that tape out when I was 14
Hell yeah!! Always great
Damn fine timing brother Josh. Needed something to listen to.
You got it
I love all Stories from our not too long ago of our WILD WILD WEST
Wonderful presentation of West history.
Many thanks
As a Chilean, boy do i have some stories to tell from my family lineage. The shenanigans that the Gauchos (Chilean Cowboys) were up to from our recorded history is quite interesting. Thats what got me into american westerns. Your channel and history at the ok coral are my go to for american western history, great work !!
Entertaining and informative... that's what I meant to say!
This is my favorite podcast. Got er done Josh. We in Maine love this.
Thanks man!
Absolute great video man. Informative as hell and pretty hilarious. Looking forward to watching more
Much appreciated!

I truly appreciate you and the work u put in. This has probably become my favorite thing to listen to/watch. Comforting and inspirational. Once I write my famous WW movie. I promise you gonna have coffee for life
Looking forward to it
This is outstanding. The presentation is perfect and the content entertaining. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Paul
If you did trading cards of the Legends of the West, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
That story of the Newton massacre and the Riley kid reminds me a lot of Louis L'Amour's Flint origins.
I lived in El Paso back in the early 1970's while stationed at Fort Bliss. It still had it's seedy part of town out on Dyer Street, and the avenues of the President's, I took an apartment there for my last weeks in the City after moving from a small house just off base, my wife was hospitalized and I had flown my kids home to stay with my mom, we needed place to land till I separated from the Army. The other side of the base on Montana Avenue was the better stores and homes, at least around the base. I am sure it has probably all changed since I left in 75 to move to the DC area when I was recruited to serve with The Old Guard at Fort Myer Va. ( I had returned to the Army after 6 months as a cop in my home town, I missed the Army and re upped to go back to Bliss, I was with the 3rd Cav on my first tour, following my year in Nam, I moved with the 3rd from Lewis to Bliss, when I returned they assigned me to the 11th ADA it was quite a change but it was OK seems the 3rd had been in the field for nearly my whole time as a civilian and most of my buddies looked like shit when I went for a quick visit.
I’ve said it before but it bears repeating. I love your color commentary. The stories are fascinating. The research is appreciated. The preparation is great. But the Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the episode and in the outro set your episodes apart. EVEN IF I’ve heard the episode before.
Seconds into this one and I snort laugh at “yes…NIPPLES” while waiting on my appointment in a cardiologist’s office.
Haha thanks, hope the Dr visit went well
@@WildWestExtravaganza Thank you sir. It went better than I expected. EKG a couple weeks ago indicated that I had a heart attack at some point. The one today showed no such thing (praise God), but I do have to wear a heart monitor for a couple weeks. Keep up the good work Josh. I always look forward to your content updates.
Good news! Do what them docs tell you to do
Cool fact about Lillian Heath is that she observed the solar eclipse of July 29, 1878, along with scientist Henry Draper and inventor Thomas Edison, who had come to Wyoming to conduct experiments and had stayed in the Rawlins House, where the Heaths were living at the time while she was 8 years old. Fascinating woman.
Very cool
Great great video!
Thank you for this.
Well done.
Thank you for listening
Informational, educational, and f*cking hilarious. I just subscribed
Thanks man!
Love it when you "freestyle" Josh.
I remember when my mother was near dying, I tried to get her to tell our family history (on tape). Our family was part of the West Virginia Coal Wars of the 1910s and 20s. But she wouldn't. I feel our family lost a big part of our history.
“This lifestyle ends one of two ways: behind bars or at the end of a rope…. Or gunned down” 😂
Sweet!! Thanks again!!

"nostril-damus" epic sir!
This is like Danny McBride telling me a western story. Fn awesome!!
This is the video that got me to sub. Lol. All the big noes jokes landed and yup. ..lol subbed.

Love "The Other Guys"

Just the tip. Love it
Thank brother
Thank you
The Newton Massacre sounds a lot like the one in “Flint” by Louis Lamore. ‘The Kid at The Crossing’.
Man, you are awesome; you have all the facts right when most others don't even come close to the truth.
Thank you
T. Jefferson Parker book, "L.A. Outlaws!" Is a fictional novel about the great-great grand daughter of Joaquin Murrieta. It is a very good book.
NostrilDaumus! Damn good one
Well done again mr. Josh👍✌
Thanks
Love your humor & history! 😊
Glad you enjoy it!
"Parrot" 😂 If he was a frenchman, it probably sounded like Perō. But hey, for laughs, we'll go with big nose Parrot.
Hell yeah brother. Compilations ftw.
More to come!
Agreed about people who mistreat anyone in the customer service industry.
Great stories, new subscriber love your twist on the layout of the stories good stuff, buddy keep it up
Thanks and welcome
This is the greatest damn channel to ever exist.
Thanks!
Woah. A lot of detail I really didn't need.🤣
You forgot to make a Nine Inch Nipples joke.
Im not sure I've ever had to skip back on a bio as often as I do for your podcasts Josh.. You are a funny fkr..
Thanks for letting me walk in those wild west shoes.
Any time!
Great podcast, I'm really impressed by your fact checking
Much appreciated!
I did blow with George Parrot, once. Never again!
Man that Riley kid is fascinating. He isn't listed as a gunfighter, but I think it's safe to say you don't get to the level where you can shoot 7 people in 90 seconds, through a front of gunsmoke no less, just by shooting at bottles on fenceposts.
One heck of a debut
Thanks!
Thank you!
Your story telling nd your free speech makes me laugh but also I love to fall asleep to your videos but I get into the story’s so it’s hard to sleep
Or as I like to call it a good time. The bigger the fuppa the tastier the chalupa lol. This dude is hilarious

Hopefully soon. Thanks!
