Well done video - like your attention to detail and appreciate the insight and information on how you target trout. Fishing in New Zealand is on my bucket list... you are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world! Left you a giant thumbs up from your friend here in Canada.

Much appreciated! Hope you make it down this way one day. We are indeed lucky but Canada is certainly not a bad spot either and it's one I plan to visit one day too.

Good video mate, hope you're surviving lock-down OK. With regard to the magnet latch for the landing net, agree with you but I've had some issues with them getting clogged with black sand when on the Tongariro, the volcanic rock must have a high iron content because it sticks like glue to the magnets. cheers, Craig

Thanks Craig. I am also familiar with that black sand. Actually forgot about that. I had the same problem. I found that a quick firm rub with my thumb got it off reasonably well but it was still a pain, plus all the blackberry around there. I still find it better than a carabiner but open to any other better solutions.

The best option with your landing net is to attach the magnet to the net side with a cable tie and hang the net handle down, then attach a safety rope or stretch cord to the handle side of your net then attatch this to your belt or backpack. Makes it alot Easier to grab the net off your back or bag to when trying to land a fish.

Thanks for the video Johan. Really enjoy them. Very informative. How do you rate your waist pack . Was looking at getting one from ILFF. Does the front packet fit your fly box ?

Thank you very much David. I don't have much ,to compare the waist pack with, since I haven't used any other waterproof ones, but I do like it (mostly). I have not managed to get the main compartment wet when rolled up properly, but being a roll top and not a waterproof zip, like e.g. the simms at patagonia ones, does mean it is a bit more work getting into it and closing it up properly so you can get lazy and then silly things happen as Murphy decrees. I like that the main pocket is big enough to hold everything I need and it's also very tough and rugged. It's been through a week in Aitutaki and a full season of trout here and nothing has broken yet. I have taken off the neck strap, which does mean that if you fill it up with too much stuff (like I do) it tends to sag and hang down, but I don't mind that. The small front pocket is only big enough for a small fly box (not my big C&F ones) and has a removable fly foam insert already inside. BUT the small front pocket is not waterproof. That means I only use it for scrap nylon, broken flies and other rubbish for which it is handy. Overall it is value for money and has lasted. I continue to use it and will do as long as it lasts. I hope that helps you to decide if it will work for you.
