How to Make a Professional Quality Paint Polisher for Cheap

- See how I took a cheap electric random orbital polisher and made it able to use the cutting/polishing pads for expensive devices.
I have used it successfully for paint correction while developing this hack and I'll post another video of it in action in a couple weeks.

Thought I ordered the wrong pads, was going to through them out or ebay them. Now I have a way to use them on my black & decker. This is a biggy thanks so much for the demonstration.
Good idea, i was looking for something to apply wax with a machine and i didn't want to use the bonnets that come with the orbital Polisher.
Bro thank you for making this video. I just did the exact conversion and I'm cutting away on my paint using good old simoniz. Unless you need a lot of pressure this thing works great
right on! I came up with the same thing. Except I got the velcro pad that you replace the backing on a sander with a hook and loop system.Works way better then what you have. and I went from a 5" to 6" pad.
How did you put it on? and which one?
Thank you very very much sir
Thank you man! Your video was very helpful
Where did you purchase the velcro strips?
i just bought one of these at an estate sale for $3. ill try the velcro trick. thanks!
How to put velcrow for 11 minutes
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Best comment
For the price of that orbital sander, he can get the decent chinese made da polisher for the same price.. i dont know what did he mean "professional polisher for a cheap"..
LMAO
Hey thanks for the video showing the modification velcro. Do you still have this black n decker ?
I have a orbital sander imma try. Already has a Velcro pad
I just got my black and decker from FedEx yesterday now I'm waiting on my orange peel pad to remove an overlapping paint job that I've done thanks for the tutorial.
Dude, u couldn't remove a light weight swirl much less paint with that. 😅😅
i dont know what'd you mean by "professional polisher for cheap"... for the price of your orbital sander that you got there, you can get the decent chinese DA polisher for the same price, which is seem more "professional" that we can control the speed, unlike those orbital sander.
Does it work
I did the same thing, it has a strong vibrarion after installing the pad. Does yours do the same?
I have the same machine but I removed the rubber pad altogether removed the glue and put on a proper backing pad which will take all those valcro pads and no vibrations.
@@robb.1891 Hi where did you buy the pad to put on the polisher and how did you attach it? Thanks, Joel
@@robb.1891 Where did you purchase the backing pad
The non industrial Velcro hooks are very similar to the hooks on the Chemical Guys backing plate. They are designed for easy removal, with less wear on the loops found on the pad.
danlc95 definitely, the industrial was way OP.
So how has this held up? Any issues come up? This is one hell of a money saver if it works.
Yes, It has held up very well. I just applied some VSP and did a polish with it a couple weeks back. Just keep the pad clean between uses and
@@MassiveLoop what is the best way to clean all the polishes and residue
This is exactly what I needed! Thanks bro
What is called that pieces to stick the pads ?
Yazan Al Tawalbeh Velcro strips
Is it a dual action ?
I did that to mine a while ago and it just doesnt have the power to keep it spinning and buff.. so again it became unusable.. tried different bearings, cleaned the motor but still just not enough balls..
Not enough watts. What machine did you use?
Same thing dude had in the video.. black n decker.. dunno what wattage it is but aint enough to keep her spinning while trying to buff.. its got the rpm but no torque..
@@Z-Ack random orbital sanders aren’t designed to spin under load. They will spin like crazy when you run the machine but as soon as you apply it to a a surface they struggle
how to replace the whole backing plate?
You cant on this model, the bearing is built into the plate..
what type of adhesive did he use?
He didn't. The velcro strips had adhesive on the back.
NIce! I have that Black and Decker and need to wet sand and compound/buff a car this weekend. Great video!
Would this be a good polisher for personal car use? I dont plan on starting a detailing business
Yes, it would be. Check out this video. He paint corrected his entire car with this same polisher using the pads that it came with: ua-cam.com/video/az-HFW38aFM/v-deo.html
Yes yes yes.. even with cheap chinese hex pads this works really well.. i use meguiars compound and polish.. awesome products..
Genius! Perfect Idea Thank You!
Is that a double sided Velcro?
Fucking idiot
Can this pad (with that machine) remove swirls? So I have not to use the rotative machine and replace with this one to polish in one step not creating holograms.
Yes, I used Chemical Guys VSS scratch and swirl remover (AMAZON LINK: www.amazon.com/dp/B001TJIDF0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_NIx5zbDFDDNW7 ) to remove scratches from shingles that flew off the roof on to my car in high wind. Worked like a charm. Of course an expensive rotary tool will work faster but with this cheap orbital this did not take long at all. You can use the same method that any rotary does and you wont burn the paint since the speed does not get high as they do. Great if you are looking to repair swirls without spending a ton of money.
Link isn't working
I edited the post with what I can only assume is a permanent link but is subject to Amazon's change of URLs, of course. I also added this and a link to the pad I used in the comments. Hope that helps!
So it’s the pads that suck? Is the polisher itself good?
Jason Loera the bonnets suck yeah. This orbital polisher gets the job done for diy personal auto use, but it does take a little longer and need more passes because it's not as fast as the high end ones. But it's not bad. The VSS swirl remover from CG used with this made the marks disappear

Where can I found this And how can I name it
Any home store and name it whatever you want like maybe buffey or sir wax alot.. blackened pecker.. bob.. your choice,.. it can even be a betsy if that tickles your fancy..
What size are those Hex Logic foam pads?
Taylor Jordan - They are 6 and a half inch pads.
@Massive Loop do you think a 6 inch pad would work as effectively?
Taylor Jordan it should . But you want to have the pad run a little wider than the mounting surface, for the same reason as the high dollar polishers, the mounting surface should NEVER contact the paint during polishing.
@@MassiveLoop Hi where did you purchase the velcro strips?
how was your experience, are u still using it, any good?
The experience has been great. I use the same process that you would with the professional orbital polishers. I really like this for a person learning how to polish and getting the method down too because they dont need to drop a bunch of cash and you dont risk burning the paint at high speeds.
Thanks man for the reply, appreciated!!!
Good. those cover pads are horrible. Yes chemical guys stuff are good, Might do the same with a Ryobi cordless buffer.🤔 But wish I can adapt something to the whole things if the sell adapter
Which peices you used to stick the pad
sudershan lal
Did you know the name of these pieces ?
I am asking that only because i want to buy that black color stick peices
sudershan lal
Me too
sudershan lal they are called Velcro tape
Alex Hernandez oh thanks a lot man i was waiting for this reply only it was helpfull god bless you
These polishers are less than $20. I would suggest spending $20 more at Horber freight and get a better one with adjustable speed.
Which one
@@TTTT-rc4fv - I forgot the brand but one where you can set the speed. It was like $45-50.
Just buy the Bauer dual action polisher.
Jesus Christ your cheap but love the effort. Also the pad won’t spin fast enough to correct any paint on that sander.
disagree, see the results people get with the new wave of cordless polishers. sure, not as effective in correcting as a powerful corded polisher, but the cordless models can't be pushing much more power than a cheapie like this, if at all. this is a 60 watt polisher...with cordless having 18-20v batteries, i would imagine most are right in this range as well. so it doesn't compare well to more expensive corded polishers, but i bet it compares well (correction wise) to most cordless models, which are typically a lot more expensive. i've corrected paint in the past with a cheapie 10 inch random orbital 3300 rpm buffer. sure it probably took 3 hours to polish 2500 sand scratches from my hood when a good DA now would probably take me 45 minutes. but it does work with the right pads, compound, and some extra patience.
we need a steve jobs for car maintenance.
You Talk Toooo Much
Thanks for the feedback. Can I return it by saying you don't talk enough in yours. Are you just recording people driving down the road and putting it on YT? Some context would be nice.
