Really appreciated the comments on where and how you are targeting the fish. The drone video really assisted with that visualisation of the river. Thank again Steve
Great session! Really enjoyed that one. 10 days till I head up to the high country myself, Nymphing rod in hand. Absolutely No apology required for the sunscreen. As a melanoma sufferer you should be complemented. Ditto for long sleeves and hat!!!
Thanks Anthony! Yeah I always find after I’ve been bush for a few days and not shaved, the sunscreen doesn’t rub in no matter what, and I end up looking like a homeless clown…..haha! But as you say, better than getting cancer. Good luck on your trip, it should be fishing well! :)
Awesome video, Peachy! So good. Jeez, I’d like a dollar for every time I’ve done what you did just before the 7 minute mark: lifted into a “snag”, gone to bounce the fly off and felt the big head shake, just as it let go! D’oh! 😮 As a matter of interest, what X tippet were you using in this? You seem to be able to control the fish and land them surprisingly quickly in that fast, heavy water, so I’m guessing you’ve stepped up from 6X to cope with the conditions?
Thanks Steve! Yes the dreaded old rock/fish syndrome, can’t stand losing a fish like that! For tippet, yep I was still on 6x trouthunter fluorocarbon, I find that has really good knot strength compared to the other ones I’ve tried, so I can give the fish a bit more curry…. ;)
Haha! He took off pretty quickly. There are a ton of snakes up there, always wear gaiters for protection and carry emergency gear and a mate with you. But as long as you’re careful it’s really not an issue. :)
Thanks mate! I was fishing a micro leader for this one, 10’ of 0.18 sempe to 4’ of 4x Rio bicolour sighter then the tippet ring. Off that I was fishing about 6’ of trouthunter fluorocarbon between 6X and 7X. :)
Another ripper of a day Steve. The country looks great. Fishing seems to be awesome everywhere. Keep your stuff coming, very enjoyable. Should be some great fishing ahead. Cheers PP
Thanks PP! Yes the high country is magnificent at the moment, we even had snow in late November which was interesting…thanks for the kind feedback, much appreciated! :)

Wow you were on a 10’9 3wt! Strong fish!
Yeah they were in good nick! :)
Looks like a good start to the season and the fish aren't put off by the large flow.
Yep I reckon it will be another cracker of a season, the flows have been high so far but it's still fishing well. :)
