    Another great video. Real cool Aussie trout on the fly. Look at the Fishpond mid-length net. Worth it.

      Thanks Michael! I do like the fishpond nets, but I have since invested in a competition style net with a bigger hoop and much deeper mesh part. :)

    Hi Steve, great video and some nice fish there. I’m about where your are I’m my euro nymph journey as well.
    I really enjoyed the commentary in your approach to the water. Much better than just watching someone’s back until they hook up.
    I can relate to your accuracy comments.
    I’m often thinking if this wasn’t a euro rig the fly would go exactly where I want it.
    All part of the adaptation.
    Cheers

      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Sean! Yes the accuracy really is a challenge, I have been going and doing some practice on a local river just catching a few herring and bass with the euro rig, it does get easier with some practice but it's tough at first, because it's just nothing like casting a fly line! :)

      @@PeachyFlyFishing , yep. Especially when your trying to change your upstream cast direction by 5 or 10 degrees.
      That first fish was a beauty.
      Well done
      I’ve noticed that one fish a run in the rivers I’ve been fishing as well around Eildon Vic. So much good water without fish and one fish in the prime water. Makes me wonder what’s going on. Maybe summer temps are just getting to them.

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Yep I think most of our mainland rivers are marginal trout water basically. On this river there's one or two main pools that seem to hold multiple fish, but most of the pools hold only one or two fish if that. Didn't see very many small fish on this trip either, I'm wondering if the bushfires last summer affected the spawning.

    i would if i was you definately change the reel from right hand wind to left. you will find it so much easier to play a fish and wind with your left hand to take up slack line at the same time. apart from that which Euro nymph ( if thats what it is). fly line do you use???

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks Kevin! Yes I know it's the accepted wisdom to wind left handed, I have tried it but I just can't get used to it, been winding reels with my right hand since I was a kid....as far as lines go I like the Cortland euro nymph lines with the braid core. Both the level euro line and the DT (double taper) are nice, the level one is good for pure nymphing but the DT can actually throw a dry fly if you are a decent caster. :)

    • @kevinwootton205
      @kevinwootton205 3 роки тому +1

      @@PeachyFlyFishing I could say i am a decent caster but lets say i used to be. I am or have just started flyfishing again, I started in the early eighties in the UK, I fished a few times in NZ but have recently taken up Euro Nymphing, I have a 10' 3# which i use with a Euro nymph kit which has a shorty. Though i am looking for the full line version? There are so many decisions to make with this style it can be quite confusing. would love to fish the rivers you fish, thopugh i currently fish some of the best in Victoria. The Goulburn, The acheron, The Oven, and the Rubicon. anyway enough of that cant wait fot the season to start again. tight lines, Kevin

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      @@kevinwootton205 Yes can't wait to get out and fish again! There are some lovely trout rivers in Vic, I love the fishing down there. The euro shorty lines are fine, just make sure you have a very small and smooth connection between the line and the leader as it tends to go in and out the rod tip a fair bit. Also I prefer the braid core as they have less coil memory, and you can make a very tiny loop in the end out of the braid core and whip finish it, then tie your leader directly to the loop. It makes a very small, smooth and strong connection that it much better than the welded loops. Hope that helps! :)

    I often wonder about some fisher folk.
    If we throw a ball/stone/cast a fly line with our right hand and arm, it must mean that all our senses and strengths are stronger in that arm. You know, all those fine motor skills.
    Why then, when we set our fishing equipment up, do we orient the reel so as it is a right hand wind? That forces us to hold the rod and angle a fish with our left hand and arm - the less dominant when it come to those essential fine motor skills and strength.
    The act of winding a reel is purely mechanical (no strength or touch needed), so why don't we simply wind left handed and use our fine motor skills and even strength to hold the rod in our right hand?
    I watched you in this and you were forever changing hands when fighting a decent sized fish. You made it look cumbersome and very risky in terms of a successful capture. It just seems crazy to me.
    Looking at Phil, he looked so much more coordinated and efficient.

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Haha, yes if I had my time again I would learn to wind left handed. But having grown up since a young age winding a reel with my right hand I just can't do it left handed, feels totally uncoordinated and unnatural to me. Having said that, I can't recall a time when I've lost a fish because of it, but if I did I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world. :)

    • @BillSaltbush
      @BillSaltbush 3 роки тому +1

      @@PeachyFlyFishing You should bite the bullet and teach yourself to do it.
      In two days of Covid 'Exercise' casting in my local park, I taught myself to cast left handed (I'm a righty) - Full and false casting, roll casting, mend casting, snap T casting, high tipping, etc., etc. I'm a klutz, so it can be done. . . . and, in tight spots, it has already provided access to fish I might not have ordinarily caught.

    Great video mate👍🏻,can I ask what line are you using on your euro nymphing set up?

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks mate! I'm using the Scientific Anglers Mastery Competition Nymph (with the mono core). If It works nicely but if I was buying again I might think about getting a braid core line. :)

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      I should have added - the euro line is barely outside the rod tip, it's mainly just for handling purposes as it's easier to handle than mono. The more important part is the leader setup - in this one I'm using a butt section of 12 lb Fluoro yellow Amnesia, to a 3x bicolour sighter ending in a tippet ring. Then off the tippet ring I'm using about 6 - 8 feet of 5x fluorocarbon tippet. Total leader length is around 22'. Hope that helps!

Wishing you a productive2021. PS that last vid produced some stonkers in magi surrounds. Your vids focucus on the streamcraft and the need to adaapt techniques accordding to the variables noted. so many newbies give up if the dry /nymph dropper doesnt produce. to lazy to tie a few more knots if you ask me! all the best for 2021.1
