  • Two day hike up the Pinch River. River was running high and dirty after 30-50mm of rain. Tough fishing conditions but a couple of huge trout made it worth the time!

Your rainbow trout look much like the browns I have caught. The little one in the net certainly looked like a typical brown with some big red spots

Love the emotion when you catch that big guy.

Great fish mate! just letting you know the smallest fish was a brown not a rainbow ;)

People have to take into consideration that Covid and the rain following the drought allowed these fish to grow very quickly ! The fishing pressure and non catch release from many fisherman will bring everything into perspective as we go forward !! Pinch river is 300-400m from campsite, the temperature is a lot warmer and the food supply is there for the fish !!

Wow … they are big browns for that sized river. Btw I’ve never even heard of the pinch river.

It's not far from Jindabyne, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been fished that far up for quite a while - was pretty tough terrain though. Will be interesting to fish it again during summer.

Great fishing. How far up from the campgrounds did you go?

prob about 8-10 km. Bit of a horse trail part of the way but can get pretty thick. You have to pick the spots you fish where it opens up a bit. Beautiful scenery though.

Great video, could you tell what size and weight rod you were using?

Hey mate, its a Orvis Clearwater 3wt 10 ft euro rod. Euro rods are generally longer with sensitive tips and stiffer butts ; feels more like a 4-5wt when fighting a fish.

Cheers, I am new to fly fishing and was wondering how you managed those large trout if you are expecting to catch small/medium size.
So a 9’ 4 wt would cope? Well done, subscribed, looking forward to more of your videos 👍🏻

@@Rufus761 awesome man, I found the orvis training center to be super helpful when starting out (howtoflyfish.orvis.com/video-lessons). A 4wt 9' would be perfect on this river - can be a little bit tough if they start running down stream however i find if you keep lots of side pressure and try to point the bottom of the reel towards the fish you should be able to keep them above you.
