- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The De Tomaso Pantera is a classic Italian super car hybrid. No it doesn't had an electric engine but it is powered by an American Ford 351 Cleveland V8. That's makes it a hybrid of Italian design and American muscle.
Welcome to Forza Friday: a new TFLcar series of classic Italian rides that will be featured every Friday on TFLcar. This week we continue with a car that has been unappreciated until recently for it's style, power and handling. The De Tomaso Pantera was produced in Italy from 1971 to 1991 and was designed American designer Tom Tjaarda. Today prices of Panteras are on the rise. Check out this video to see why.

My friend has a 1971 Pantera. It goes like a rocket. It is slightly tuned and a lot of weight has been stripped from it. I love how it feels so raw. I once had a go in it on a strip and at 130 mph the wind came into the coupe through the doors. Such a fantastic and raw machine! I have no idea how many hp his car has and how much it weighs but it goes like hell from 0-100 km/h and also 0-200 km/h but after that it starts to get a bit slow:)
I used to work for a guy several decades ago, and he bought his Pantera from a Mercury dealership. Glad to see this made it to Forza Friday.
Thanks for the kind words. We really appreciate viewers like you.
Great Video! The Detomaso Pantera didn't get the respect it deserved years ago, but as more and more people learned about just how great they are they have developed a very loyal following and are treasured by their owners. Some elitists look down on the Pantera because it has a Ford engine. I guess they don't think much of the 427 Cobra either!! Let me think of a few Euro/American hybrids: Mangusta, Pantera, 289 Cobra, 427 Cobra, Jensen Interceptor, Iso Griffo, Sunbeam Tiger, and more...
De Tomaso Automobili SpA is an Italian car-manufacturing company. It was founded by the Argentine-born Alejandro de Tomaso (1928-2003) in Modena in 1959.
I like the idea of you guys reviewing old school sports cars! It's very insightful for you guys to have such a segment. Keep it up.
I wasn't too familiar with the Pantera so I really liked this review!!
Roman is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Pantera which explains why the owner is so willing to give us insight on his motivations for owning and maintaining these old Italian beauties. Am looking forward to Part 2 of this Pantera video on next week's Friday Forza!
Nice job Roman and THANKS TFL Car for another excellent and informative video!! Have good Labor Day weekend gentlemen!!
The DeTomaso Pantera was designed in 1969 at the request of Lee Iacocca on behalf of Ford. It was designed to replace the Shelby Cobra.
Like the Cobra, it was powered by a high performance Ford V8. Power from the 351 Cleveland is transmitted via a ZF five speed transaxle; the same transaxle used by Ford's Le Mans winning GT40 Race Car.
The all steel body was by designed by Ghia and the chassis was designed by Giampaolo Dallara, a chassis designer for Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini.
Awesome to see something about these. My dad said he drove one when they were new and has always referenced it when we're talking about older cars.
Yes, making a Pantera Trackday competative with most modern so-called Supercars is easy and not expensive. Standard bodywork can accomodate big rubber and the motor can produce a reliable and relativly inexpensive + - 450-500ps. Some good brakes and buttoned down suspension makes it a beast at the track...without having to tune it every month.
Yeah Campy's were used by de Tomaso on the Vallelunga, Mangusta & Pantera... Just plain gorgeous.
Always loved these cars. Very cool
Awesome cars! Totally badass!
cool car thanks for the vid
one of my all time favorite cars
Nice review. I'm the original owner of a '71 and it's been a great car. Did a total restoration in 2000 which included a '99 Cobra Mustang DOHC 4.8L engine. Made a great car into a fantastic one. Like one of the owners in the video said, there aren't many origional ones left and is not a crime to modify them. Also, here is a great music video featuring a Pantera. ua-cam.com/video/ld50mfW-BCM/v-deo.html Enjoy!
Beatiful car👏
THE SILVER Pantera sounds like a sick Puma when he smashed the gas pedal
I m in love with de tomaso pantera
U made my day
I've never really been into Italian sports cars but if I ever had to choose one it would be one of these...
yeah! I saw one in my home country a little island call st.thomas u.s. virgin island in the carbbean sea, around 94 or 95 at a car dealer and at a car show at the University center and i wish i had the money to buy it! but someone bought it maybe from the carshow;next day or so i saw it on the road i like what!!!! i could not belive it; and i haven't seen it sent then.and i happen to see the concept pantera and the mangusta to,the concept pantera is fast;the mangusta concept looks o.k.to.
this was my first poster car !
Those things were very balky in the early days. Elvis got so mad at his that he shot it! Always thought it was a cool car though. I used to see one around when I was growing up. It was supercharged and really, really fast. A friend's dad had a pro-street Vega and it would beat that Pantera off the line, but at about a buck-20 the Pantera would come screaming past like a cannon shot. Fun times!
Springtime in Colorado: Of course it will rain in the afternoon.
Love Panteras.
i like this car
Great review, learned a lot, but there was one thing that bugged me. Campagnolo is pronounced camp-n-yolo (ugly word, yolo, but for this purpose it works perfectly) or the other option as you used it is just to pronounce it campy, which is perfectly fine, and us bike guys, they now make bike components, won't cringe when the pronunciation is less than perfect
I miss my '74. Hope the guy from Microsoft who bought it took good care of her.
"enters silly comment" Thunderrr Cattsss Hoooooooooooo lol
I live in Louisville and I’ve never seen that silver one im so sad 😭
😍😍
Sucks that it didn't make the cut for Forza 5.
I LIKE the original .
When will we see part 2
is it me or the bloke with moustache isnt that keen on talking/giving interviews? :D
I always thought the Pantera was 100% american. Why? Because i have never seen any online sites or magazine say anything about Pantera being an Italian. And a Pantera is always featured on american soil! This is the first time i learn than Pantera an Italian. Which is so foreign to me. hahaha
The rear lamp reminds me of 240z
Is that a Republic of Newfoundland flag on John Finney's shirt?
De Tomaso was Argentinian and the Ford relationship was cause his wife knew the Fords.
It's the perfect deal?
I have a set of hall pantera rims for a mungusta for sale
Who owns DeTomasso >?
Ford has a lot of performance engines right now > they could make "some" come back .. /..
modern > Mangusta vs Cobra .. ?!? .. >) ..
Colleague of mine had one and then he didn't, and then his ex-wife did.
Yup just ford powered!!
De Tomaso Pantera car created by an Argentine like the Pagani.
I do understand, however I'd like to point out that they are poles apart from each other.
H.Pagani is a highly skilled technician,a factual
minded entrepreneur running a highly rated high end supercars factory.
A.DeTomaso was pretty much featuring as an eclettic businessman with something of a bon viveur and a cowboy.
I really can't see any similarity between these two characters, let apart their argentinian descent and the fact they both established their operational field in Italy.
Can't help it after hearing them talk about Pantera... Walk (Official Video)
