The stock Pantera is a monster.
By the time you're winding out in 3rd gear and you've got that motor howling over your shoulder just shoving you down the road constantly accelerating..
I was really impressed with the Pantera. And it handles better than the cobra. I know not all cobras are created equal.

I remember, probably about 15 years ago, when I lived at home in a nice quiet neighborhood and a warm summer evening. I heard this big sweet rumble of a really powerful motor and I wondered what that awesome car was. Then a few minutes later, at the opening of the side street that meets my street ---- a beautiful dark blue Cobra with white racing stripes on the hood came roaring around the corner. I don't know if it was a 427 or a 429 but it was the loudest most mean sounding car that I've ever heard in that neighborhood --- it was really awesome to see and hear one in person and that was the first time for me and what a thrill it was.
Thanks Guido! A lot was done to this car, it has an aluminum block instead of the stock iron block, and it is bored to 427 cid (7 liters). The thing was a monster.

Love the Pantera. I gotta say it could be my ultimate dreamcar. Brings together the two things that I love, the exotic look of the Italian supercars with the American muscle and sound. Especially love the video portion of 2:36 - 2:49 make it feel like you're laying on the hood of the car. :->

Love to have one of these Pantera's, especially the one with the wings/flare/spoiler installed in the back for that more muscle car appearance.
I agree. A lot of people hated the look of the Pantera with the fender flares and spoiler, but I thought it looked so much more aggressive and that's the one I would choose. I have always wanted the Pantera SI model, designed by Marcello Gandini in the early 90s.

Do Panteras have transaxle failure problems? Back in the late seventies I happened to see one up on the rack for transmission repairs.
That's some serious power for a Pantera, is this the quickest Pantera in the world you think? As far as I know these came with american V8's didn't they? I absolutely loved the look of these since the first time I saw one, but this one has some meat on it's bones. Sick car!

Is it possible to put a BOSS 429 in a Pantera or is it too big? This car is awesome!!!! I've said it before and I'll say it again, Pantera's are awesome and my favorite. I've heard that guys that are 6'4" can't fit into these cars, is this true?
That's a good question. I was told that 427 was the limit, but it seems like you could fit a 429. I wouldn't be surprised if a 6'4" guy couldn't fit, it's a very low and somewhat cramped car.
Yeah, I heard that that was what really hurt sales of the Pantera. I would probably have to bow my head but it would be worth a sore neck to me. lol I always wondered about the 429 but I bet it won't fit because of those big Hemi style valve covers. To me, a 427 is more than enough power for a little "jet" like that any way. That's a very nice Pantera on there though -- you know me, I love 'em all. Cheers!
flashy5150 It depends on how one is proportioned. I'm 6'4" and 250 pounds and fit just fine. If you have long legs and short torso you'd be ok. If you need more room they make dropped floorpans to give an additional 2" of headroom and if you need more legroom it's a pretty easy job (bolt on) to extend the pedal box out as far as one would like to. A Boss 429 will indeed fit with some massaging & one fellow has a twin turbo 427 SOHC Cammer engine in his. :-D
pantera1973 I just read a while ago that the reason for the Pantera not selling is because bigger people couldn't fit into them -- maybe they meant the early ones. I'm 6'4 and 230 and built like you described, long legs and short torso so I guess I would fit. I think Elvis was around 6'4" also and he owned a Pantera -- he ended up shooting it in the steering wheel like a few TV's that he owned lol. The guy with the 427 would shred the tires lol. I like the 1972 Pantera the best, but I like when people rebuilt the motors, tires/rims and suspension and leave everything else stock. Cheers
+flashy5150 - For the taller folk, an easy up-grade is to lower the floorpan couple inches which allows much better seat positioning , gives lotsa headrom and much more comfortable seating....I did mine in a couple of hours..Very easy and works a treat..even with big sturdy racing seats..Going this route is far easier than cutting down & modifing the firewall..( Iam 6' 3' )
That pantera is one mean SOB but that cobra kit sounds a bit weak....

I love the Pantera but the this Cobra sounds sooooooo much better. The Pantera's exhaust takes away from the rest of the car.

It's people like you that have us so law restricted we can't find a piece of public. Yessss I said public road to run our classics on without looking over our shoulder. No one was sliding sideways no one was aiming for kids. These things are so much better recorded on a good road course. The scene where passing an SUV on a double yellow with kids riding bikes next to the SUV didn't impress much. Actually had an opposite response.

it's actually pretty funny, GMG just dropped a 3.5L V6 ecoboost out of a f150 they got for $10k in one of these with bigger turbos and made the same power, where as you struggled to get this power from a 7L V8 after kitting it out and probably spending more on the engine

take those goofy air filters off that thing so it can actually breathe and a dyno tune dont mean nothing totally different load conditions on a engine in a car find someone who knows how to tune and drive that bad boy these guys are rich boys with bought toys

I would be worried to drive 626 HP on a car designed in the early '70 for less than half that power.
A car designed in the '70s is already dangerous per se because of the completely different technology in brakes, suspension...even press-fusion and welding that make it a "heroic" thing to drive in it's original configurarion...let alone with double the horsepower of the original design.
Would have been fun (not really) to see what happens if you suddenly need to brake on those roads because of a slow car after a bend/hill...chances are you crash badly and get projected outside the wreck like a dummy.
Sandro Bindelli these cars came stock with 4 wheel disc brakes, and I'm sure this guy has bigger brakes on this car than stock

Street driving requires a lot of concentration, and choosing your spots. I don't think this exhibits dangerous driving. It looks like he is going a lot faster than he really is, but your point is well taken.
