Great interview. As an American, I'm so impressed and incredibly jealous by this quality of journalism. We have nothing like this in American mass media. Most Americans have never heard of Estonia or the other Baltic nations( except those whose ancestors came from there) and the Mainstream media doesn't educate them.I consider myself fairly well informed, but I wasn't aware of Estonians fighting in Helmund with the UK. Thank you James and especially Gen.Jones for this wonderful conversation.

There’s a thing called the internet. It’s been around for a while now. The problem with the yanks they worship the mainstream media who sits there and read off the screen and gets paid millions. Have a neutral mind don’t be emotional and do your own research . It’s not hard to look into things on the internet, just type in anything and things will come up. Remember war makes money and peace doesn’t. Americans need to leave your country and travel abroad . America is not the only country in the world. Travelling broadens your mind. Don’t stay in hotels go out to the local village and learn their culture and way of life. Trust me it’s safer then what the mainstream media is telling you. Safer than your towns and cities where people are just killing each other.

Ukraine territory is a whopping 603,628 square kilometers (233,062 sq mi), Russia at one point occupied a total of 161,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi) or almost 27% of Ukraine's territory and some has been librated so now we are down to 119,000 km2
What really gets me is that some ppl. are now saying why does Ukraine not just let Russia have the areas /land it’s just a small part of Ukraine anyway.....
A small part of Ukraine ...WE ARE taking about a land mass is 119,000 km2
In EU terms thats the size of Belgium, Holland, luxembourg all put together..
In UK terms that the size of all of Scotland and 80% of England all put together !!
In US terms is the size of South Carolina, West Virginia all put together !!
Why the f. should Ukraine give Russia all that land for what? TO ONLY be invaded some years later when Russia as had a brake and regrouped ,rebuilt its army and fortified positions !!
I SAY RUSSIA GETS TO TAKE LAND AND DEMAND UKRAINE CAN NOT JOIN NATO IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL !! Nobody wants to be a "buffer country". NO nation wants to have a little bit of freedom !!!! ; The whole concept is demeaning to an independent nation. NO nation wants to have a little bit of freedom and self-determination, like some sort of 2nd class country; That is not right, and Russia has no right to demand or bully Ukrainians or Ukraine to accept that Ukraine and its ppl. should become some sort of lap dog on a leash 2nd class country to serve kremlins geopolitical agenda; so Kremlin, Putin and RuZZans can feel better about themselves ...
---------It is embarrassing that the US and Europe do not support Ukraine more than they do , the US. were in Afghanistan for 20 years and achieved less than Ukraine in 2 years, and Ukraine is also a much stronger opponent with many more resources !! As a Norwegian I am ashamed of our policies in the west , the western nations governments use every opportunity to go on national TV and tell how much they support, but the truth is that we have only provided 94 Euros per inhabitant, it is ridiculous when we look at the size of Ukraine, the opponent and the way Russia has bombed cities in Ukraine back to the Stone Age, and that we (western nations ) have not lost a single person in the war , we are talking about Europe, democracy and freedom that Ukraine is defending , one can only be ashamed

Some countries can supply lots more 155mm shells because frankly they don’t need them & properly never will , like Denmark .NATO needs to be looking at WHATEVER Ukraine needs is what they all should be looking at & what they have NOW!!! , not in the future or hypothetical scenarios of what they will be able to do. 1 million 155mm shells as an example!! It didn’t happen, but the Czech have 800k available, so what’s the hold up 😡 Nato needs to get more focused on what they can do immediately. Not what they might be able to do . The problem is the US does not want the Europeans to up their defence spending, they want min of 2% that is it. If the Europeans did up their defence spending to 5% + that would be a direct challenge to US hegemony. The Europeans have the economic and technical base to do that, the US knows this. The US cannot dictate economic terms to Europe, as the latter is independent of the US in that regard, hence the importance of the EU. Many dismiss the importance of the EU, but it is a major world player in terms of economic power. The US hates this hence constant trade wars. If the European nations did created a EU based defence force it would seriously challenge the US, it would be far more of a challenge than China is now.

Very interesting discussion. One only can imagine why EU, NATO, and US do not provide a real support to Ukraine. Everyone understands Ukraine is bleeding and desperately need help. What if Ukraine at some point looking on the amount of help from the west will decide, that the fight doesn't make any sense? What if Ukraine will understand, that they will not be accepted into EU and NATO? What if Ukraine will decide to join Russia in fight against Europe and NATO? Can the European polition understand that in this case Russian and Ukranian armies, two armies with huge experience, will be in front of NATO? Where these two armies will stop? In Poland, Germany, Portugal?
I think US, NATO, and European politicians in very dangerous place. What is really bad, they don't understand it!

If UK citizens are directed to be far more involved in military matters in future, the UK government should expect a correlating much greater interest in foreign policy and military deployment decisions compared to how it has been. As long as they're prepared for the UK to be far more restricted in its military involvements overseas like our European neighbours tend to be. Currently, the UK population generally tend to leave foreign policy matters to the government. Asking citizens to be stakeholders in the military would bring with it very close scrutiny by the public in future.

"An opinion poll that was taken on the day of the referendum and the day before by a correspondent of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, The Washington Post, and five other media outlets found that of those people who intended to vote, 94.8% would vote for independence. The poll did not claim to have scientific precision, but was carried out to get a basis from which to judge the outcome of the referendum, given that independent observers were not present to monitor it. There is a more serious and realistic issue with respect to the involvement of NATO member countries. If Russia makes significant further advances into Ukraine. Then if the US is still AWOL then it is quite likely that some countries, such as the Baltic States might send their military in to support Ukraine. At this point these countries put themselves outside of ‘article 5’ protection, and Putin might respond directly against them. This would cause the fragmentation of NATO and severely damage NATO deterrence- therefore it is a scenario that Putin might actually want ….

Now although on the surface Russia is making, and although I am not a military expert, it seems to me that the noises coming from the Kremlin are not that confident. I think they were hoping Ukraine would stand and fight for every inch so that Russia could bring their material superiority to bear. Ukraine is indeed in trouble, but they have also made the Russian army pay horrendous costs in men and machinery. I sense that the Russian command is not actually that keen in engaging in the hit-and-run combat tactics that Ukraine has switched to.
Also look at the targets Ukraine is going for outside the front lines. They are hitting the Russian air force and economy hard, which is a worrying thought for an advancing army dependent on growing supply lines. The targets Ukraine is going for are following a definite pattern that is not one of desperation or panic. Ukraine has learnt to resist fighting the kind of war that Russia wants. We did not see the usual massive surge of boastful propaganda after Avdiika fell, but instead the suicide of a Russian mil blogger who exposed the huge losses and bad command structure of this operation.
This is not the first time in this conflict that Ukraine has been at a considerable dis advantage in one way or another. But at the same time, they are inflicting structural losses on the Russian war machine that are hard to make up. They hint that when Ukraine does finally receive the supplies it needs the things that Russia has previously relied upon, such as air superiority and Naval support, are no longer such a threat.#
Russian political espionage antics in the US have mostly been revealed and as much they have had a dangerous effect on the frontlines, They will not deliver the knock-out blow Putin wants. The economic situation in Russia is beginning to worry the Kremlin. It will also have a wake-up effect on Europe. I may be wrong, but I have been watching this conflict closely, and I have a hunch not everything is well in the Russian camp. Putin will make increasingly rash and spontaneous moves that will not bring about the results he thinks they will. His hope for a Trump presidency are looking less and less likely, and the Americans are waking up to the threats within their establishments. It is a tough, painful time for Ukraine, but I would not write them off too soon. There is more going on here than it seems and while they are losing some ground much of it is full of Russian corpses.

Very interesting post. At some point, the Russians are going to wake up to the casualties. The Tucker interview didn't mention causalities on either side.
Even if Trump wins, and Ukraine has to give up some territories, it will be a loss for Russia. Ukraine might be forbidden from joining NATO, but the whole East flank of Europe will be reinforced against future Russian attacks.
I will be surprised it Ukraine falls completely, unless the West gives up all support.

I 100% agree our defence spending is ridiculously low for the role we are trying to play in global politics. But what i want to know is what is our actual goal in Ukraine? Because right now we're being told our best case scenario is Ukraine trying to hold the line for the whole of 2024 while under constant shelling in the hope we come up with some miracle plan for a Ukrainian counter offensive in 2025. Sounds to me like the Great War taught us nothing and we're just gonna allow it all over again! Why isnt everyone demanding an immediate end to hostilities what even is the UN at this point?

how so ? i agree to a certain extent this is why Ukraine is concentrating on single use attack drones , which is a precision weapon, however when you have barrels and no rounds , thats wasted force.

Agree with comments from by Rupert Jones from about 15 minutes that there needs to be a proper open mature debate in the UK about geopolitical risk, looking beyond the immediate future. Proper planning requires considering risks over much longer periods of 10 years plus. If NATO members wait until something bad is about to happen, that will be too late to do anything. If the UK government tries to limit such a debate, for fear of 'scaring the horses,' then there will not be a proper understanding of risk and necessary precautions to prevent more wars. The NATO guideline of 2% of GDP on defence is absurdly low. The UK armed forces have been cut to tiny levels especially the army.

2% GPD as a minimum seems reasonable, if spent correctly. The problem is, most countries spend on the wrong things. The lack of basic artillery shells is telling.
But not many countries spend more. Even the US is only about 3.2%.
