Don Nelson Tries To Work the Rule Book

- Here's a rundown of the final minutes of the Warriors-Blazers game from April 14, 2010. Don Nelson tried to keep Devean George in the game after he fouled out. Nellie already have three injured players on the bench and didn't want to risk further injury. Unfortunately, the rules wouldn't let him do that right away so he had to bend them a bit.
Once the dust settled, Stephen Curry capped off a 42-point game by closing out the Blazers. - Спорт
Blocked by an injured player lmao
Baby Steph Curry still banging in those threes.
Boxghost102 dude still looks like a baby
What happened: The Warriors had just 6 healthy players to start (their five starters plus Devean George). However, league rules require a minimum of 8 players, and the Warriors were already maxed out on contracts and roster exemptions. But Chris Hunter got hurt early, forcing Devean George into the game. Then George committed his sixth foul. The refs said you have to use your remaining bench players first. Hunter, who had gotten hurt early, had to come back in. He played another minute before getting hurt and now having to head to the locker room. But the refs said: you still have two other players dressed. Ronny Turiaf then played one possession before getting hurt...but the refs said you have to use your remaining dressed player first, Anthony Morrow. Morrow only played one possession before leaving with an injury. Only then was Devean George allowed back in.
After the season, the Warriors were put up for sale and the new owners did not retain Don Nelson.
Fucking legend, curry is
Nellie's last game as a Warrior coach and what a game that was. Good luck toy ou Nellie in the future. I always loved your teams.
I bet u had a great 10 years
This is why i loved don nelson as a coach. He knew the game and loved the game. He knew the potential in players versatile ability....he's a big influence in dirk nowitzki career.. and developed versatile players... And the best part about it he was just plain out fun to watch.
it s ridiculous to force injured playrs on court... shame on refs...
Not the refs fault a team doesn't have enough players. The Warriors dressed up injured players, it's no ones fault but the rules.
Spaced92 by NBA rules, you have to dress injured players even if they are unable to play if you do not have the legal amount of 8 players required to start a game
why the fuq cant they play with four men?????
+Lorenshyne You can't play 5 v 4 in the NBA dude. It's a professional league and they have rules.
Lorenshyne The rules already allows a player w/ 6 fouls to stay in the game if there are no more subs. The penalty is that each additional foul he commits will be a technical.
This will be in a classic game of NBA History!
Don Nelson strategy king.👑🏀
An all-time classic in Warriors history!
Out of all of Don Nelson’s career wins.
The last win of his career here was beyond the most impressive!
We need a movie based on this game.
I’m not sure if people would want a movie like that especially on this specific game
Factsss
Hunter could just get himself ejected out of the game. Throw some chairs on the court, maybe punch a referee.
backhandchop lmao I was thinking the same. What's the quickest way to get elected?
Made my day hahaha xD
would lose salary though
He doesn’t want to be fined
What about heading to the locker room after being hurt and not returning? At any rate, the refs said that because they're dressed, they have to be used first (Ronny Turiaf and Anthony Morrow).
nelly knows the rules and the refs dont lol he is a hall of famer!
Curry is just chill and sooo ready to get this done ;-)
I visit this moment from time to time, and I can never get over the idea of forcing severely injured players to come back onto the court.
I have no idea if this can happen (Or has happened) in todays NBA, but my word...
The referees were right though. Following the rules a team needs to dress 8 healthy, ready to play players. The warriors didn’t have enough healthy players so they tried to cheat the system by dressing injured guys. By rules what should have happened is the game never should get started and the blazers should have been awarded a walkover because of the warriors not being able to dress enough healthy players for the game.
Referees can be wrong sometimes, but that seemed too heartless on their part.
You just got T boy and a fine
I was at this game and sat near Devon George's brother. Dude laughed at the Moda Center fans at the end.
this is amazing!
What a great coach! Love nelly!
I love how Nelson turns it into his own personal sideshow.
Way to go Nellie! AWESOME WIN for you guys!
That's why Warriors is one of the best team in NBA now
Best game ever if not the very best...
at least during his second GSW run, this happened to him 4 times. There was the time when Monta was injured and all the other supsensions and injuries to Jackson, Turiaf, TMNT, etc and Curry fouled out and another two times during the "D-League All-Star" era
Great coach
gotta love Donnie
This is one of the most bizarre events that's ever occurred in NBA history.
That's why they call them the warriors!!
A similar situation to this is happening at the Lakers game on 2/5/14...
The difference there is that any other potential substitutes were already injured or already fouled out before Sacre got his 6th.
Damn this game must've been really hard for the players
This was a day after I was born
Dam thats crazy............
for everyone who says to sign someone to a 10-day: the NBA would not grant anymore injury exemptions. so to sign someone, we would have to release someone. get facts straight.
Lol. There is a reason Pendergraph isn't in the league anymore.
The Mad Scientist at work. Defense be damned!
yeah he is, and he was 7 months ago too
I like the announcers!!
Pretty sure the official at 3:48 just said "that's your problem..."
Unbelievable.
Good job George
@grasd2 we have 15 guaranteed contracts already because of the injuries and the necessity of keeping the d-league players who have been called up.
Don't know, can't recall the teams. It was a long time ago, so...
Lol this was great, I remember this game like it was yesterday
Curry is him
I like how Don Nelson the drunk knows the rule book but not the refs and the Warriors still won the freaking game 😂
i watched this on tv
@N720MF I think they we´re booing at referees. Anyway, only 8 we´re dressed, where 2 of them were practically injuried before the game. Gj by Curry for finishing game up. Hope to see GSW with new faces and less injuries next season
Haha 5:49 - "Hey, You're Injured!" Got it? Good!
its happen situations like this in 2013 when lakers played only 8 players but still win over cavs
yeah this was far more extreme.
Funny thing is they still win
This is harder though, because Warriors are facing a 50-win team on the road, with only 8 players and 3 were injured.
The crowd tho.
@grasd2 yeah who dresses 6 players when you only have 6 healthy players! only don nelson...
@N720MF Crowd had no idea what was going on with the bench, saw Nellie yelling at the refs, saw a player that fouled-out coming back into the game. What else would you expect them to do?
Nellie wasn't against the rule book, he was using it.
In FIBA your team can still compete ateast with 2 players still.
That's not the point of the video at all. The point of it is that the team lost against a team that played 4 games in 3 different cities in 5 days, with 3 injured bench players, and Don Nelson just bent the rulebook to allow a player to play. Not to mention Stephen Curry got his career high game. This was not at all a playoff position clinching game, or anything. That wasn't the point of it at all. In fact, Nate didn't even have his starters, so the game never mattered anyway.
He didn't bend it. The refs forced him to play the injured players in order for them to be considered injured for the game. Which doesn't make any sense.
@grasd2 he dressed 8 but 2 were injured and hunter got injured during the game
don nelson did the right thing. devean george should have never left the game to begin with.
Curry shut this crowd up real quick
Devean George did not commit a foul. He touched Martell Webster who acted like he got fouled and threw the ball
Lol at the crowd, what a fail.
damn look at that bench 6:45...there's no one there!
smart
I saw a European game once, where this rules doesn't exist. You must at least start with 5 players and you must end a game with at least 2 players (you've got to be able to pass the ball). After a brawl, one teamonly had two players left... That was rediculous!
Robbe Deweerdt That rule is in college basketball too.
You might also be referring to Australia-Philippines, where the game (a blowout by then) ended late in the third quarter...the result of a fight early in the game famous for Thon Maker's kick.
Chris Hunter ...
Can you imagine had some else got hurt and they only had 4 players that could play? Hahaha crazy
Even the portland trail blazers fan booed!! See this is why we must not change the rules
they are booing the warriors though. they want them to play with injured players. fuck portland.
@@tigrealpaxley4894 ya
@oneandonlyeugenius he dressed 9
Nellie deserves to be in the (rigged) HoF
Yea how about we play brandon roy this season oh wait...
@KGCeltics08 They were in uniform because you have to have 8 players dressed to play an NBA game. However the warriors in reality only had 5 players capable of playing. Come on man, think a little o___o
Jesus christ the comment section on this makes it obvious y’all just watch but don’t know the goddamn rules. And still think they know the rules better than coaches. Good to see a lot of pro coaches here in the peanut gallery.
Refs sucks here. They know the rules 🤯
That year the GSW had 17 players on the roster. I find it hard to believe that 12 out of the 17 players were injured at one time.
I mean - I figured out that you just foul out the injured player almost immediately - why did it take Nelson so long to work it out.
wow you should be head coach
shit sign someone to a 10 day contract or something. this just shows why only having 6 players active is a bad idea. 4 players had to play 48 minutes. as you saw all it takes is one guy to foul out and one player to get injured before an injured player has to keep playing. hunter or turiaf could have some career ending injury happen or made their injury worse. it looked like hunter may have actually did. it's just not worth the risk of something like that happening.
The Warriors were already maxed out on slots. They didn't even have a slot to call up a player from the then D League.
Injured is not the same as hurt....if your car got a flat you wouldn't drive it anyway no matter how much you paid for it....
only in fucking warrior land can this shit happen
2Good4MyOwnGood what??
who the fuck dresses 6 players for a game. only don nelson
@HellaBased The Blazers lost plenty of players too, and won 50. Just saying.
Lol, they lost too 6 players
Lakers
Did George even touch him at 0:07
Looks like Grandpa George hit the ball and Martell Webster sold the foul :|
oregon...enough said...bahahaha
warriors are a joke of a franchise.
dyyhard lol how bout now bud
Lol not any more 😂
this comment doesnt age wel
5 straight finals trips and 3 championships later lol
LOOOOOLLL
lol the jailblazers still couldent beat them!!!!! HAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
Haha Warriors fans talking shit, that's funny.
Say that again today @paranoiD_FPS 😂
