Okay just clearing some things up! Sill=atlantic herring Strömming=baltic herring Regular strömming IS NOT fermented! Only the "Surströmming" which I'm guessing you're confusing it with.
Yes. And Sill is much fatter and bigger (south of the city of Kalmar) then strömming, the latter is better for fementation and cooked fresh. Sill tastes much better when cured
Incorrect, my grandfather started fishing at the sea outside Vikbolandet in 1913. The difference between Sill and Strömming is a matter of size for him. The larger being strömming. It is however the same species (Clupea harengus) and a geographic line between fish caught north of kalmar being called strömming has been suggested. The smaller fish were however cured and called sill. Whilst the larger were fried and called strömming, with obvious accentual differences.
This reminds me: I remember decades ago there was a restaurant where I live, Los Angeles, Ca, called Scandia. They had a salmon dish called gravlaks. Nay, Sweden is expensive mainly because of its high taxation policy (both direct and indirect), because of which they are able to maintain their ultra generous social security system. Being an elite first world nation alone isn't the only reason. All Nordic nations have these systems in place. I doubt you'll find food and utilities in USA, Canada or Singapore as pricey.

I'd like to share with you my appreciation. Your video captures have prompted me take the time to experience food. I now approach food in terms of flavor and taste. For so long I would just eat as fast as possible and not take time to appreciate it. Food has become an experience for me. I take my time to really taste and appreciate the opportunity. I also take the time to understand, be grateful, and be in the moment. I eat much less now as a result but find myself more deeply looking for nuance; the layers of the experience. Your sharing has made me smile more in the experience as well. I hope that makes sense. Thank you!
Just recently discovered Marks Channel when planning my trip to Lissabon - so so glad I did, we followed four of his food recommendations and were absolutely happy with all of them! Can't wait to do the same for Stockholm this month ;) Also I just love his heart-warming enthusiasm about food and culture
Stockholm looks like a great place to visit. I am disappointed at all the rude people in the comments, like did you really need to make those comments. Thanks for letting us see a country firsthand without actually having to go there Mark!
I have watched so many clips of people who tries Swedish food and just don't like it and just say mean words, thank you for being so nice and liking our food :)
Moose are among my favorite meats. Born and raised in Skellefteå, Sweden (far up north) and my father-in-law is a hunter, so we have the priviledge of getting some moose and deer during hunting seasons. :) And then we have reindeer... I suppose it's a bit easier to get it up here than in Stockholm, simply due to the proximity of the Sami people, who live by herding reindeer in the northern parts of Sweden. Meat from reindeer truly is a delicacy. Traditionally, at least up here, we eat it moose, reindeer and deer served more like a steak than in the form of a salami, however, a reindeer salami's great on slice of toast for breakfast. I once served as a Royal Guard in Stockholm, and to be honest, I really miss those days and I have thought of enlisting once again. That uniform is nothing but a priviledge to wear and I am proud to say I wore one once.
Yeah´, eating out in Sweden is alot more expensive than buying and cooking for yourself, as it usually is but even more so here. But there is always quality atleast.
Toast Skagen was my former wife's favorite dish there. The shrimp are so small and sweet. And that is just Swedish Mayonnaise in it (which is richer than American Maya). Glad you like Swedish food. Me too.
Wow, so many misconceptions in the comments. Anyway, this video was really awesome. Thanks so much for showing Stockholm in the summer and that breakfast is just, wow. Keep it up! Enjoy this video a lot.
I visited Scandinavia some years ago, like early 1990. I liked it very much. The hotel had awesome breakfasts, like a football stadium size, included in the hotel. I really do not remember any other food although I am sure I ate every day.
it looks like such a quiet.. peaceful ..beautiful place to visit...and it's just different food...not every place In the world can be hot and spicy.... mark seems to especially love the meats . ..you need the proteins for the long winters... thank you mark and ying for showing your true amazement of this beautiful city...😊. you treat each place with such respect!!!
If you are in Sweden you should try some of these dishes. Dillkött (meat in a dill stew served with boiled potatoes), Elkstew, Souvas(raindeer kebab) Isterband ( a special sasauge) Crayfish (seasonal for august) and many also forget to try Zander wich is the best fish in my opinion that comes from Swedish water even if its not native from the beginning
Hi Mark😊 I've been following you for a couple years now. You've come a long way in your videography skills! I could totally see you on the food channel.
Hi Mark. That was great! I really enjoyed this video and Stockholm does look dazzling. Could you write a cookbook, including all your favourite recipes? I mean a printed one, ink on paper? I live for books! I would love a Mark Wiens, printed cook book! Cheers. Daniel
Aw, no räksmörgås (shrimp sandwich)? 😁 It's more common in western Sweden, but you get a piece of bread with a salad leaf, mayonaise, boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumber, lemon and a bunch of shrimp. The best is when you get a mountain of shrimps. 😁

I enjoy your face expressions after biting into the food or just tasting the food. It's like your taste buds were/are amazed by the new taste. I definitely enjoy your work.
What an honour to have him.
Skagenmacka e bland det bästa som finns 😁

Kunde inte ha sagt det bättre själv 😊
Sant som fan
Skagenmacka är fruktansvärt gott
Looks freaking delicious! So clean, pure! Beautiful Country, too.
Stockholm is my favourite city (I’m from Australia). Been there 6 times in the past 6 years. I love everything about this city. So beautiful. People are easy going like Aussies, too. Going again soon 😄
wtf, bc u speak their fetish language
What do advice me to visit and eat? Also what hotel do u advice me to stay in? And is it better in the summer or winter?
@@yhd801 Summer is the best time id say if you go to Stockholm. if you wanna experiance winter in Sweden i recommend going to the northern parts of Sweden, and maybe u get to experiance the nordic lights
I love the way he reacts when he really loves the food.
I watched this about a year ago. I had never seen any of your vids before. But because of your sheer unadulterated passion and enjoyment for the food it really made me want to come to Stockholm. I am writing this from Stockholm now whilst re watching this vid. BTW I have to admit hat I have bevome a complete Strömming addict I've been to the Nystekt Strömming cabin every day. It's DELICIOUS. Thank you Mark (and Otto)
Meanwhile people wants to meet up with Hollywood celebrities, I want to meet Mark!
mr. wiens, I just started watching your videos and I must say, you are a joy to watch and you make everything tastes sooo good. Tho, I don't eat meat, the seafood and veggie dishes that you feature looks so delicious and inviting... Next time that I travel in Europe, I will definitely check out your recommendations.... you have a beautiful family... thank you and god bless
mmm that sausage Baguette looked so good!
Mark is an amazing person with respect for all cultures.
Stockholm is a beautiful place. I hope you, Mica, and Ying have a lovely life
I'd like to share with you my appreciation. Thank you!
Hi Mylon, thank you very much, and I'm so happy to hear that you've started to experience food more fully now - makes full sense to me. Thank you!
How Mark eats touch every soul. ^_^
such polite young men... lovely
Love your video. Swedish look amazing and clean. I dont understand why so much hate here. Learn to respect other culture.

Gorgeous video Mark and Ying! I can see you have fans everywhere!
Hey Mark. I love your genuine happiness in the vlogs, it really shows. Also, brave to film yourself in public. Never stop recording bro
Yes, you got good mustard as well :D
Also, in Sweden we don't really "drink" coffee by international comparison, we chug it by the litre.
this makes me want to go to Sweden right now
Jeez, how many people recognized you in Stockholm, Mark? Bet it feels good!
Just recently discovered Marks Channel when planning my trip to Lissabon - so so glad I did, we followed four of his food recommendations and were absolutely happy with all of them! Can't wait to do the same for Stockholm this month ;) Also I just love his heart-warming enthusiasm about food and culture
He has the best voice for Wild Life documentaries!
Not squeezing lemon on top of the salmon and toast skagen should be a crime :))
Thank you for sharing, dear old Stockholm.
Stockholm looks like a great place to visit. I am disappointed at all the rude people in the comments, like did you really need to make those comments. Thanks for letting us see a country firsthand without actually having to go there Mark!
I’ve never seen a deconstructed Toast Skagen before. It should be served on a slice of bread fried in butter.
I have watched so many clips of people who tries Swedish food and just don't like it and just say mean words, thank you for being so nice and liking our food :)
"What is your specialty" is the BEST question to ask when traveling. Love the videos Mark!
Moose are among my favorite meats. Born and raised in Skellefteå, Sweden (far up north) and my father-in-law is a hunter, so we have the priviledge of getting some moose and deer during hunting seasons. :)
And then we have reindeer...
Hey mark, love your videos... the prices there may be high, but the quality of food looks amazing, and well worth the price...
Yeah´, eating out in Sweden is alot more expensive than buying and cooking for yourself, as it usually is but even more so here. But there is always quality atleast.
Watching you enjoy your food so much just puts me in a good mood.
Keep it up! Enjoy this video a lot.
fan va trevligt att kolla på va
Hej
I visited Scandinavia some years ago, like early 1990. I liked it very much. The hotel had awesome breakfasts, like a football stadium size, included in the hotel. I really do not remember any other food although I am sure I ate every day.
I think I’d like Swedish food very much!
That beautiful poached salmon with the dill potatoes made me want to reach through the screen and steal the whole plate. Yum!
Your reactions to all the foods are all like mine! I love good, quality Swedish food! It’s the BEST!
it looks like such a quiet.. peaceful ..beautiful place to visit...and it's just different food...not every place In the world can be hot and spicy....
mark seems to especially love the meats . ..you need the proteins for the long winters...
thank you mark and ying for showing your true amazement of this beautiful city...😊.
you treat each place with such respect!!!
Mark is bigger than the food channel. The food channel needs Mark and not the other way around.
I love cured salmon with dill and honey mustard with capers and thinly sliced onions on a toasted asiago bagel yammy :-D
Hi Mark.
That was great! I really enjoyed this video and Stockholm does look dazzling.
Could you write a cookbook, including all your favourite recipes? I mean a printed one, ink on paper? I live for books! I would love a Mark Wiens, printed cook book!
Cheers.
Daniel
Great to see that you visited Sweden! Hope you had a great time. Welcome back any time🇸🇪🙌👍👍👍
Thank you for portraying my country so beautifully. excellent
"Next level sausage container experience!" Nice one!
On his wedding night: "that was a next level, sausage container experience".
8:17 You know it’s good food when Mark makes that deer in the headlights face. 😂
Love your videos! Nice to see someone try so many types of food from arround the world and enjoy it! Happy greetings from a swede! :D
a delicious way of studying a culture - thanks Mark Wiens
Ying is just the sweetest! love her!
I wish I had a Sweden friend how ever you say it😂💖
proud to be swede right now also since we from Stockholm recognise all places you're in in the video😘
I can 💯 agree on that!!!
Aw, no räksmörgås (shrimp sandwich)? 😁
It's more common in western Sweden, but you get a piece of bread with a salad leaf, mayonaise, boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumber, lemon and a bunch of shrimp. The best is when you get a mountain of shrimps. 😁
Thanks for the video! I enjoy hearing the guests speak--a nice change of pace!
