- Philips originally released this L3G91T radio in May 1959. The actual radio you see in this video was sold on the 17th of October 1959. I have owned it as part of my vintage radio collection for many years, and it is one of my prized radios due to it having the original box and paperwork. I hope you enjoy watching as I take the radio out of the box, as the original owner would have done all those years ago, back in October 1959. He or she clearly looked after it. That is in really good condition for the age. There is one on a well known auction site at the moment which someone received as a 40 year long service award back in 1959. Do you know the model number of the other "Personic" model in the brochure?
Hello and thank you! Yes, by being preserved in a box and kept away from sunlight the radio still has that new look and feel. My Philips brochure doesn't list a model number for the Personic, but I looked at the online Radio Museum and it is recorded as being model number 'L1G75T'. Both radios date to 1959 having Mullard OC transistors. According to the brochure the Personic came with either a black or blue case and aluminium speaker grille. Thank you for watching! Cheers👍
I'm sure the original gentleman who received the radio you mentioned for sale online, received after 40 years of service with the same company, would have been very pleased to have been gifted with a modern transistor radio set in 1959. He started work with the company in 1919, the dawn of radio broadcasting in the UK. The radio looks in good condition in red and grey with a gold coloured speaker grille, as listed in my brochure. Just two colours blue or red.

Yes, I checked on the online Radio Museum site and it has 6 Mullard OC transistors. So that might explain the fact that it still works.
@@radiowyn1703 we've come a long way for sure. It was great to see it working, and the old markings like Radio Eireann, and what they used to call the "Light Programme" BBC Radio 2 now. that was on longwave I think.
@@southeastgasservices we certainly have, turn on a modern radio and they sound very impressive, but the character is lost. Thank you for your commments. I used to love looking at the old radio tuning scales as a child, seeing all those foreign stations. Yes, the Light Programme on LW. I have a Bush VTR103 which has the Light Programme on VHF, MW & LW. It ended in 1967 and became BBC R2.
