To date, hall and oates are one of my favorite groups of all time, rest in peace Willie, James, Dale and Adrian (my father, grandfather and two uncles).
This takes me back to a time I didn't have a care in the world. Just wanted to ride my bike, play baseball, hang out with my friends and listen to the radio.
Me and many other kids from my neighborhood spent so much time outdoors. My group of friends (we didn't all know eachother real well, but it didn't matter....we needed more kids to play certain sports, unlike tennis or hitting golfballs on an open field) got together to play baseball during summer break. I played several outdoor sports even when summer break was over. Almost everyone needed bikes since it was normal to for kids to ride bikes everywhere. Staying inside the house during the summer break was not even thought of an option if it wasn't raining! Me and my closest friend always figured out plenty of different things to do....all accomplished without spending hardly any money despite all the hours of enjoyment each week.

My 33 year old daughter loved Hall and Oates and when she passed away on February 10, 2014, this is the first song we played as we gathered around her.
I was a eight year old third grader when this song came out. If I heard this song on the radio on my way to a baseball or football game as a youth, there was stopping us, we'd win. Teammates would ask, " did you hear the song!". Today I'm 60 years old and still love this song!!
im listening, and they were great. im a fan and they did some great songs..love this stuff. appart from the memories, these songs have real talent in the making. what lets them down is the reproduction between those days and now, but there is nothing we can do about that!!
For roughly a decade between the late 70's and the mid 80's, no one and I mean no one could hold a candle to these guys, easily one of the best duo's of all time
I. AM AND ALWAYS WILL!! My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Hall and Oates song. Darryl's voice is so...mmm...perfect....wonderful...just...mmmm...yeah, it's like that. So so so good!! And the lyrics! And the harmony! and the instrumentation! The arrangement! It's just wonderful! And, if you look up this song "live at Daryl's House" with Rob Thomas (on youtube), it's 99.9% as good as the original.
I was born on the day this song was released and my parents told me I danced out of the womb and laughed and moved to this song my whole first year of being on this Earth. Years later I am now a Dancer and Singer.
Wow, I would have been a toddler when they did this and was much more familiar with their later stuff, but this is outstanding. Couldn’t help but think of Flight of the Conchords for the first few minutes though.
I was 16yrs old.. and whilst the average teen girl was madly in love with the phone.. my heart belonged to the radio!! Now I'm 63.. and still in love!.. music is life. Thanks Hall & Oats ❤❤
Daryl Hall had the better voice but John Oates was more eye candy for the ladies --- that mustache and chiseled physique definitely got the attention of the women

One of the best songs ever written about a lost love and the beauty and purity of the music and their voices is just magic. Sorry folks but these are the facts
My 4yr old son in 2007, in his car seat, would belt this song out while I drove. I left it on repeat as he did not want to hear anything else while he was in the car. He's 15 now and I just had him listen to it. Man I just got a 💋 and a hug. Thank you Hall & Oates.
There's such great two-part harmony between Hall & Oates, I'm surprised that they didn't use it so much on their later hits. This remains their best song. I believe it actually charted twice for them.
I was 10 years old at the time this video was made. I enjoy their voices together, and separate. They are timeless, I agree, & I don’t understand why in the world would someone give this a thumbs down.
I remember playing this song over & over in 1977 when my girlfriend left me. We got married in 1980 & 41 years later still going at it. Love you always Darlene!😍

The people that gave this a thumbs down are in denial and they think she's coming back.
LOL, thanks!!
Good one!

Very funny.
I remember when I had my first beer. 😀
BAD ASS SONG
Maximus Meridius must have been in the 90s when that ill quip was funny
My 33 year old daughter loved Hall and Oates and when she passed away on February 10, 2014, this is the first song we played as we gathered around her.
Sorry for your loss and thanks fro sharing
My deepest condolences for your loss. May your future be composed of only hope and strength. God bless.

II thought my wife leaving me was bad you just broke my heart all over again💔
That's very sad I'm sorry you lost your daughter
Classic song. The multitude of instruments is nothing but spectacular. One of the greatest songs of all time.
Hall & Oates made some of the best music ever!!! I love these two brothers!!! Music like this is not around anymore!!!
They sure don’t make em like they used to!
This song is a literal work of art never get tired of hearing it❤
Still good in 2022 !! Love this song today & all others
I'm 60 yrs old now I grew up with the best music 🎶 🎵
We did, didn’t we…..?
And into 2023! What beautiful voices in this heartfelt song ... Both guys are perfect in tthis songd
Any better time ?.. no.
I was a eight year old third grader when this song came out. If I heard this song on the radio on my way to a baseball or football game as a youth, there was stopping us, we'd win. Teammates would ask, " did you hear the song!". Today I'm 60 years old and still love this song!!
Any other Hall and Oates fans out there besides me, listening to this legendary group in 2021?
4 hours behind you! This is great stuff! There's a recent, wonderful cover of this from 'Live at Daryl's House' with Rob Thomas and Daryl Hall!
desde sus inicios,siempre fabulosos
Arcadio saberon Drummer Eddie Zyne just passed he has joined that heavenly rock band in the sky🙏🥁🧡
Arcadio saberon Me!
im listening, and they were great. im a fan and they did some great songs..love this stuff. appart from the memories, these songs have real talent in the making. what lets them down is the reproduction between those days and now, but there is nothing we can do about that!!
For roughly a decade between the late 70's and the mid 80's, no one and I mean no one could hold a candle to these guys, easily one of the best duo's of all time
In terms of number of albums sold, they are the best musical duo of all time (according to Rolling Stone magazine).
Whos still cranking up Hall & Oates in 2021 ? She's Gone!
still crankin' baby!
Meeeee
Good song to send an ex love this song
Loading up on nostalgia, baby!!! Best times of my life. 😎🙏🏼
This song still holds up today .. Great voice .Great band...
Never get tired of this song. Brings memories.
me too Patricia....lots of memories...
I was born on the day this song was released and my parents told me I danced out of the womb and laughed and moved to this song my whole first year of being on this Earth. Years later I am now a Dancer and Singer.
What a great way to start! ❤️
Best comment ever!!!

I was 18 in 76. Grew up with these guys . Thank you
18 years in 1977.
There will never be music like this again, priceless.
And they make it look so easy.
Almost 50 years later, and these guys still sound fresh as hell!
The best! Old people get it!
Well, this was probably at the very least 25 years ago
it says 1976 in the title, so probably 45 yrs ago.....
How do you get Alexa to stop
Wow, I would have been a toddler when they did this and was much more familiar with their later stuff, but this is outstanding. Couldn’t help but think of Flight of the Conchords for the first few minutes though.
I was 16yrs old.. and whilst the average teen girl was madly in love with the phone.. my heart belonged to the radio!! Now I'm 63.. and still in love!.. music is life. Thanks Hall & Oats ❤❤
Im 74 and love this!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
😊
At 71 I am here ✋️
Me too
JOHN OATS HAS A BEAUTIFUL AND AWESOME MANLY VOICE .. WOW
Indeed
And a manly mustache
He's very sexy LOL he really captures a woman's eyes
Daryl Hall had the better voice but John Oates was more eye candy for the ladies --- that mustache and chiseled physique definitely got the attention of the women
He adds the punch
Man, this totally brings me back to when the world was a better place.......
Anyone listening tonight
I totally agree.
Yes, before the small hats brought us vulgar rap. They also brought hardcore porn on every child's cellphone, legal and encouraged in Palestine and in the U.S. and illegal of course in Israel.
George Waters shaking your hand
So true
John Oates has an incredible voice!!!
AMAZING VOICE
And he wrote this song.
I’m 35 and this song hits hard. What an effing duo. Every song great. Every song a hit.
Happy 73rd Birthday John William Oates April 7, 1948. NYC born.. He recorded his first single at the tender age of 18. Co captain of the wrestling team in high school. Wrestled in college too. Not a typical musicians life story. Many more John William..
I grew up in zip 19454. Use to see Daryl and John at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr in the early 70's You're right...Not Typical and after all this time....They still are really special!
Thanks for the info, nice stuff to know!

As a musician I love playing Hall and Oates songs. Beautiful melodies and chords. The modulation at the end is like a mountain of whip cream. Watch the drummer grab his symbols for the hard stop.
Timeless
I like the way you describe things wish I could hear you play
My brother is a drummer has played most of my life and I'm a bit of a singer

1968 and I remember!
Fabulous duo best of the best. Still digging them at 68
What a song! Still rockin’ it in 2024!
These two are definitely among if not the best duo ever in my opinion. From the first time I heard their music in 84/85 till now. They still sound amazing to this day.Their songs always make my day!!!
I meant their songs lol.
+Herall Dinnall I agree good stuff man. I was born in 84 so its before my time. but its not hard to know good music when you hear it
I'm not going to give my age away, but I love their music. yes your right, one of the best.
Sabrina Thomas Lol it's ok you probably not in your 50's or 60's but even so great music can be appreciated from any age.I got my 5 year old godson into music like this.
Richard Armstrong No doubt and I was born in 77 and love music even from the 50's and 60's as well.
Who is still listening to Daryl in 2021 🌹❤
I'm listening to Oates...
Still listening and just saw them two weeks ago. Hearing this live for real was unreal.
IO ancora li ascolto. CHE MUSICA ❤MA LUI ,DARRIL ,QUANTO ERA BELLO😍😍😍
The songs of this era never get old even in 2024...rock on baby❤
This is amazing!!!! The 1970s music is like nothing else.
In some ways better than the recorded version. Their voices were truly remarkable at this stage.
I think Daryl Hall's voice is even better now, and he's less pretentious.
Thank you.
About what? That the guy with the powerul voice had curly hair or that the guy high on coke had curly hair?
4 SURE !! I love H & O !!
lebarosky I like the recorded version a lot better. But this one is ok.
This oldies were and still are the best music. Songs were real from the heart most from their life experiences. 👏👏
I'm always here for Hall and Oates. Listen to them probably every day. All of their songs are my favorite, lol. ❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥#OldSoul
Daryl and John were a large contribution to the best music in the 70s, she’s gone, and starting all over again my favourites
Mine is Sara’s Smile
They had a ton of hits...
I never really appreciated the "Oates" half of this duo until seeing this video a few days ago. He's great!
Love this song,the performance
And he was a big part of the songwriting, coming up with the choruses for, e.g., this one and "Out of Touch".
Listen to possession obession! He sings lead and not a bad song
@@jaolin6042 `Daryl gives credit to John Oates as the songwriter on this one. I heard him say it before. I think Oates had the idea after he got kiinda stood up on a date by a girl he just recently met. lol, He wrote most of this one. One of their first few hits along with Sara Smile followed by many, many more they had.
Have you heard "Don't Cross Me Wrong" by John Oats? It came out a few years ago, Vince Gill sings back-up on it.
Back when music didn't need anything but talented musicians and great songs by equally great writers. No computer gimmicks, fake stuff or anything else. Just timeless music that will far outlast anything today.
I get your point but they used computers in this song. Synthesizers and that keyboard are computers.
@@binsbins1wave form generators are not computers. That's all synths were back then.
I never heard of this group before I’m 39 born in 85. I heard it on a Netflix show and felt in love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ this type of music makes me feel good and puts me In a great mood 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I always feel kinda proud when a British audience is hearing the best of American music.Love Old Grey Whistle Test.
One of the bands that helped me survive disco!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahaha that's a good one bro!
50 years on ..this song still resonates of past relationships....timeless classic!
Reminds me of a woman, I can't say that to the new one.
I loved this duo and even more their music.
A true classic that remains timeless. All you have to do is hear the first few bars of music 🎶 and then Daryl and John start making their magic. Forever young! 😎 💘
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
This takes me back to my early teens, when the world was a far better place to be. What a brillant song performed by great musicians! This song will never get old, unlike me 🤫😉😎
Cause we were young and didn't know
Pure music. Nothing distracting. Real musicians playing.
Growing up in the 70's we were blessed with great music and still enjoy listening to Daryl and John are one of the best.
One of the best duo bands of all time
Actually the #1 duo of all time.
Paulee Deverall Totally agree
factually they are the #1 duo band of all time
J Hyphy
Yeah, according to record sales.
Paulee Deverall tears for fears is up there as well
I have a huge smile on my face listening and watching them perform. Such a great song . I love them still after all these years ❤
One of the best songs ever written about a lost love and the beauty and purity of the music and their voices is just magic. Sorry folks but these are the facts
Thank God I was a teenager in the 70s. It’s so totally worth now being 65 ❤❤🙏🙏
Jesus what a mesmerising performance. The whole lot of them are super talented. The performance of this song is truly a masterpiece.
Your so right! it's spellbinding!
Ditto! Super Talented!
Still blowin' me away --
Amazing and all live! Those high notes are crazy good.
Davestar Similar to 10cc I’m not in love. Both outstanding seventies songs..
You can really feel their Motown roots coming out in this great version
Philadelphia sound. Detroit had the 60s. Philly ruled the 70s.

My 4yr old son in 2007, in his car seat, would belt this song out while I drove. I left it on repeat as he did not want to hear anything else while he was in the car.
He's 15 now and I just had him listen to it. Man I just got a 💋 and a hug. Thank you Hall & Oates.
Hello ,how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
There's such great two-part harmony between Hall & Oates, I'm surprised that they didn't use it so much on their later hits. This remains their best song.
I believe it actually charted twice for them.
It could easily chart a third time if someone covered it.
@@eddiemoney1093 Or if used in a movie soundtrack.
Trying to picture a duo sounding like this and making music this good these days... and I can't.

How can such a great song contain so many memorable lines. "My face ain't gettin any younger" Everybody getting high on consolation- Spend an eternity in the city-carbon monoxide helps me choke my thoughts away. These guys--The eagles and Billy Joel came up wit some of the greatest American poetry ever written--throw in Paul Simon too. Absolutely great poets with great insights and lines.
