According to the liner notes from Riperton's compilation album Petals, the melody for "Lovin' You" was created to be a distraction for her baby daughter (Maya Rudolph) so that Minnie and her husband Richard could hang out. Maya was in the studio with Riperton on the day it was recorded and Riperton can be heard singing her daughter's name at the end, but only in the unedited or album version. The song fades out early in the radio edit because the disc jockeys felt that the repeated "Maya" was being overdone and that it would be misunderstood as a religious chant.[12]

I remembered she was great. I forgot she was brilliant.
You just summed it up perfectly. I'm sitting here, a big gruff Yorkshireman, tears streaming down my face. This is beautiful beyond words. And no autotune.
@@paulreynolds1532 I'm with ya brother, on the other side of the planet, tears streaming. I can't believe the *_Lovin' You_* singer is *_Maya Rudolf's_* mom!
@@nikzane I'd never heard of Maya until I saw Idiocracy. I was blown away by her performance so I looked her up, and found out she was Minnie's daughter. Then I remembered how great Minnie was, watched this on here, and got blown away all over again. Gotta love UA-cam! Peace and love from Sheffield x
One of the most beautiful songs ever written!
Mamma loved this one
Before Mariah
She was really talented and had such an amazing voice!
She's the orginal Queen, with that powerful high note!!!!
I miss the music from the 70's.
I use to love the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack.
When music had no labels.
❤😊
Her voice are full of love that cannot be found than a love from mother to her children. An unconditional love that everyone can feels.
Smiles, how are you doing?
Such a Beautiful Voice and a great singer that we lost to soon,RIP MINNIE........................
That whistle tone just stuns me instantly. WOW just WOW
God gave Minnie an amazing gift

I remember her song and dont remember her face. Dam, what a beautiful woman.
Those baby breath flowers in her hair are beautiful!😻
all sweaty and shit

Don’t forget midnight special was always LIVE too amazing she sounds like beautiful songbird
Amazing pitch and tone, sounds from another universe. Minnie R. part of the high quality talent cornucopia of music from back then.
I'm a year younger than Maya Rudolph; I remember this song from when I was a bitty little thing. I have always loved it. I may have driven my mother crazy trying to hit those notes. RIP to the mothers we have lost.
Angelic voice
Beautiful voice🙏🆙️🔝
Omg wow she was so amazing
A taste of heaven from a perfect angel.
