@@evanrichter3893 I got to watch the guitar great Randy Bachman play guitar and sing 10 feet in front of me at the hard Rock Cafe. He plays amazing and he has an amazing voice and is incredibly respectful of his fans! HE IS A CLASS ACT! ON THE OTHER HAND I GOT TO SEE ALANIS LIP SYNCING HER SONGS AT a club in Missasauga called Super Stars. Was the biggest club in the GTA for a while.. Really upset that she was lypsyncing and walked out.
Their songs stood the test of time. Perfect medley. Blue eyed soul was and is the right name for their music! Daryl is amazingly gifted, his Live from Daryl's House sessions are pure gold.
Daryl objects to the term, blue-eyed soul. It's reductivist. He says, "What? You gonna say, "brown-eyed opera?" Soul is not exclusive to one eye- or skin-color.
I was a teen in high school when all these great songs were released. We truly had so many amazing artists and their songs have stood the test of time!
Ty,Midnight Special for putting on amazing talent and showcasing their style and sound. It was a good time on Saturday night and watching the Midnight Special
Can you imagine being Daryl Hall up there just absolutely minted and killing every single moment and being so perfectly in sync with John and the rest of the band. It’s basically a religious experience
I think that's Caleb Quaye on guitar, Kenny Passarelli on bass, and Roger Pope on drums from the Rock of the Westies era Elton John Band if I'm not mistaken? This is just completely awesome! No B.S. tracks, autotune, or computers like the some of the so-called artists today. Just pure talent. So blessed to have grown up in this time of music. Thank you for this!
Hall and Oates..So,So many Great songs.....had the Absolute privilege to see them "Live" and they as Good..if not Better !! Heck Yeah..Mr Dilly.... Approved !!👍🎸😎❤️
I listened to a story about “Sarah Smile” once. I guess Daryl’s wife was named Sarah and he wrote the song for her after the breakup. She goes into a store and the song was on the Muzak system. I guess she was so upset she turned around and left before shopping. (I have my own true and funny story. I walk into a Safeway once and I look over and someone had broken a bottle and glass was everywhere. Some courtesy clerk was cleaning it up. On the Muzak system the song, “Walking on Broken Glass,” is playing. I’m not kidding. I start laughing and people are looking at me as if thinking, “Why are you laughing?” It was hilarious because no one else got it.)
I grew up in the 90's and haha! N-Sync / Backstreet Boys etc. can't hold a candle to this raw talent. This and Loggins & Messina are the original boy bands.
Why no date? Guessing 1976-77. Darryl Hall was incredibly underrated and he'd still be better than anyone today. That'll tell you just how more talented musicianship was in this era.
How you go from being legends and touching hearts all of the world for decades, to suing each other. Let the bullshit go fellas. It’s disrespectful to your legacy of greatness!
I love these uploads by TMS.❤My only complaint is the upload volume is low. My speaker/headphone volume and the volume on youtube are both 100% but the volume is still low. 🥺
Notice how Daryl doesn't say "bitch" Network no no. You can see him laugh a little each time that line comes around. My how times have changed. I actually think it could have been edited out...
Live shows always rush through the songs. Just a little too fast on the tempo. The studio versions of She’s Gone and Sarah are a slow burn, and they’re perfect.
When singers sound as good live as they do in the studio, that is called TALENT.
Today ist called auto tune and lip syncing ! These guys are the real thing !
@@carlubambi5541 lip syncing hasn’t been prevalent since since the 90s lol

This is fabulous having Midnight Special here on UA-cam
So true🎼
I wasn’t born till 87 but I appreciate having this look into the past very much

Insane vocals. That's why people like this get famous. We all want to open our mouths and sound like this
Daryl.
They were a breath of fresh air. Appeared twice on TMS 1) November 10, 1978 and Jan 30, 1981. I think this was '78 because '81 was lip-synced.
11-10-1978
Daryl Hall was in the 70’s/80’s the best looking and best singing white Soul singer
Him and Barry Gibb!!

I was a teen in high school when all these great songs were released. We truly had so many amazing artists and their songs have stood the test of time!
No one combines soulfulness with easy breezy better than Hall & Oates
Daryl.
The memories from these amazing songs are totally priceless. Daryl Hall’s voice takes the music to a whole other level. ❤
Still a place for them today, fantastic
Hall and Oates! The greatest group ever!
I. used to love to watch the midnight special and soul train as a kid. Great music and still going strong. Peace and 🕉 joy 8888
Great song-writing. Great vocals. Never heard this medley on MS. Great to have it here in 2024! Saw them in Pittsburgh around 1980.
blue-eyed soul magic...at its best ! damn, "She's Gone" oozes so much heart & soul....
Wow! Did that bring back some great memories!!
Great performance. No auto-tune on vocals and croud listening with no cells up filming.
And the stages had mood and darkness back then. Now stages are just lit up 24 7 so dumb. Looks like crap.
Ty,Midnight Special for putting on amazing talent and showcasing their style and sound. It was a good time on Saturday night and watching the Midnight Special
Awesome! I don't have to wait up till midnight to watch this stuff now. :-D
Can you imagine being Daryl Hall up there just absolutely minted and killing every single moment and being so perfectly in sync with John and the rest of the band. It’s basically a religious experience
wow awesome! 3 big hits from a young Hall & Oats!
This is what it was like before computers, internet, cell phones and auto tune. You either had it, Or YOU DID NOT.... Listening to them since 75"
"Everybody's high on consolation..." and high on a few other things too. Awesome performance. I like watching "Daryl's House" on the 'Tube as well.
Sensational... Three Great songs rolled into one medley❣️
Makes me wish my name was Sara... 😄
Happy Monday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I still love their Abandoned Luncheonette album.
One of my favorite albums ever!

one of the greatest harmonic duos ever!
Daryl.
Great band. I didn’t realize Roger Pope and Caleb Quayle from Elton’s old band played with H&A. Smokin band.
and Kenny Passarelli on bass.
Great live medley! Wish they would have played all of Sara Smile, though. I love that song. ❤😊
Hall and Oates..So,So many Great songs.....had the Absolute privilege to see them "Live" and they as Good..if not Better !! Heck Yeah..Mr Dilly.... Approved !!👍🎸😎❤️
They sounded even better live!!
Best duo ever! ❤️❤️ Great medley. Thank you!
Pure talent
Midnight Special was Our UA-cam at the time every late friday night. They have some amazing 70s performances I bet. I watched most of them as a kid.
Midnight Special is .... SPECIAL
That lean back John is doing is smooth as hell.
Sara Smiles..played it to death back in da day!!!
this channel is a gem

That's so funny!
Nope. They were together for 28 years.
God, absolutely fantastic! 👍
this was gone for awhile in youtube so glad it came back!
78 was banging year. HS 75-78. Tube tops mini skirts rock an roll.

Absolutely 💯 amazing
What a great performance. Solid.
Saw them in concert in these early days....Toledo, Ohio at the old Sports Arena....great days
Fabulous performance!🎶♥️
I love binging these midnight sleigh le performances
Daryl Hall such an underrated singer. Happy to still be able to enjoy the classics.
Daaaaaaanggggg that's all talent on that stage!!
Hall and Oates are the BEST!!!!@
Rock and roll hall of famers..class of ..2014. Well deserved.
I have one of their Vinyls autographed by both Hall & Oates. 😊😊😊💕💕💕
I grew up in the 90's and haha! N-Sync / Backstreet Boys etc. can't hold a candle to this raw talent. This and Loggins & Messina are the original boy bands.
Roger Pope on drums. Played on a lot of Elton's stuff. Great drummer RIP..
Just so sad they are feuding now. Glad I got to see them live during their prime. No autotune needed. Just pure vocal talent.
Love seeing the live performances. I tend to skip the lip-sync ones, but this was fabulous!
Awsome.......and no cell phones
Just absolutely fanastic the video and the audio is realy good !
As much as he is heralded, Daryl Hall is still an underrated musician
When I heard these songs in high school I was like “ meh” but now I hear the soulful talent and amazing vocal harmonies …

Oh my!
H&O must have had amazing sound staff, they are always mixed well.
To me this was H and O at their best. I liked their 80s pop but their rock/r&b in 70s was the best.
Caleb Quaye on Geeetar!
Wow I didn't know that. I loved his work on early early Elton John stuff.
Such a shame Hall & Oates are no more.

They should try solid gold performances
Hall & Oates sounded so good in the 70s!
I was disappointed in their 80s stuff.
Usually medleys aren't for me, but this isn't bad - though I still prefer full versions of each tune.
Is that Caleb Quay from Elton's band I spy???
Daryl is in a class by himself. Oats just brought the mustache.
I can barely fathom that Daryl will be 77 in a few weeks.
They were both fine as hell. There, I said it
Does anyone know what year this was recorded? It does not say in the description.
1978
This fantastic the wolfman jack who helped it mostly hooow stringfellowhawk Hall&Oats she gone
Did they ever sing 'Out of Touch' on this show? Upload that if they did!
Nope. They didn't. "Out of Touch" was released in 1984 and this show, The Midnight Special, lasted until May of 1981.
Jeez! Young Darryll looks a lot like Jim Carry! Great music though.
I'm sick of the "underrated" youtube comments.

This is 1978? Looks 80s af!
Is it my imagination, or did they NOT sing 'bitch' on "Rich Girl"?
Correct, Daryl Hall sings rich girl the second time as well.
@@keeffan49 I guess that word wasn't allowed on tv, but was ok for radio.

Looks like it was 1977, in 81 they sang Kiss on my list
