    It was a long time coming for a lesson on this great bass line. I like how you explain Bernard Edwards' precision style of playing the notes. I know you explained it in other videos; I never get tired of seeing it. Nice fills too. I enjoyed this lesson on my bass. Great job Dan 👍!

    Thanks, I've always found the second part of the A section riff in A deceptive when learning it by ear. I always think I have it, then I hear it again and I realise I don't. Also, I love the Rappers Delight version and know that there is a difference, but I'm not really sure as I'm familiar with that more than the Chic song.

      You're absolutely correct. The Sugarhill Gang version samples and repeats the main bass riff whilst the original Chic version has parts that make it an actual structured song.

    LOL took me a good couple of hrs just to do the first couple of bars.
    Excellent tutorial Dan on breaking down how it should be played.
    Very tricky to get the feel, groove & timing down but I am getting there😁
    What a fantastic player Bernard was.

    You mentioned the Dorian mode in this video. I notice that the Dorian mode is quite popular. I worked it out as being the mode in Angie Baby by Helen Reddy. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I learnt it totally by ear.

      I’m not aware of that song but it could well be! If the notes fit that pattern then, yes, it’s Dorian.

    I think your such a wonderful teacher. So calm and easy-going and a truly genuine spirit. Thank you so much for all you do. May I ask how are you are creating your gorgeous tone. What are you running your Ernie ball through? Adam

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, Adam! 🙏🙏 very simple - just straight into Logic via an Avalon U5 and/or Jules Monique. No EQ or compression. The bass is a pre Ernie Ball 1978 StingRay.

    Dan I've subscribed to your paid course and I'm enjoying It. Do you have a specific lesson on there for minor scales? Is there a pattern to minor scales like there is with major? As in; whole step whole step half step and so on? Thanks

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Sarah! I do have those lessons on UA-cam actually. Best thing to do is go to my channel page and use the search. There is a lesson or two on the course too. When you realise how major and minor scales are related (in the course too) it’ll click!

      @@OnlineBassCourses pro bass and guitar players always try to avoid 0 air notes because in this particular case even though the notes are the same, the pops in btw and hons and poffs in this riff are a crucial ingredient
