Me and my dad have really bonded over this game and your channel! He has 30+ years of DnD experience and I have technically 4 now, but regardless we have played so much BG3 and love following all the broken combos that you make! We always watch your vids together and love theorycrafting build/gear ideas. So thanks Colby, we really appreciate it.

I need (tbh, humbly ask by writing them feedback) Larian to make some more designated bags, and also make it easier to use for controller players (on keyboard+mouse using items from bags is not ideal, but fine, on controller it is just cumbersome and negates all the management work you have to do as a player)
@@nickrubin7312 So in game you have 2 designs backpacks, 2 designs puches, fishbucket, rib cage and a Tedy bear(hard to find) so 7 that can be customized plus 3 automatic bags that are alchemy ingredients, food suplies, and keys. Maybe there is more but i personaly didnt find it or is too unique. Now you can separate items in parchments spells, throw items, venoms-arrows(since you can use them in action attack you can avoid this one), quest items, potion-elixirs, utility active items and trash to sell(just send it to camp). To my surprice we have exactly 7 bags that we need and you can avoid 2 of them(venoms, arrows, trash) if you do you can put elixirs and potions separated since potions are situational and elixirs can chug thouse at the start of your day, at least the good ones. Another tip will be that when you put items in to a bag -open the bag, drag the item in to the picture bag and not the single dark boxes- this way will autosort items and will be less of a nightmare to put them together. Obviously there is mods that deal with this problem but i personaly dont like to put things that maybe wont work in future games patches or break my playtrough. I cant imagine how hard will be to a controller player to deal with these situation. Just be confortable with chaos i guess.
Divinity Original Sin 2 had similar issues when it came out, and there was a popular mod for bags, same as BG3. Eventually they released a version of that mod as an update for the game itself; here's hoping they do the same with this game and some of the more popular QoL mods. Paladin/Warlock was my first playthrough and oh boy is it completely busted with some of the illithid powers like getting a free crit. Best feeling ever when I land the 120 damage crit on a boss at level 5.
What is the draw to Pally/Lock? Is it because it's SAD, or maybe the Eldritch Blasts as backup ranged abilities? Is it mostly for flavor purposes? From purely a mechanics standpoint, only having 2 lock spell slots per Short Rest doesn't seem worth it when you could go Sorc or Bard and have way more slots, overall.
@@JeeyellCorps I think the draw comes partly from being able to dump strength with pact of the blade, and then paired with helm of arcane acuity you can land a few melee attacks and then almost guarantee mass turn skips with upcasting command, or guaranteed crits with upcasted hold person because of the super high spell save DC arcane acuity gives you. That's at least how I ran my pal/lock but I did end up respeccing into pal/sorc once i was about lvl 8
Beat honor mode myself about a month ago following your honor mode party (changing the holy warrior for an open hand monk/ thief) and it was great. The real difficulty in honor mode is not knowing what’s next, so on a 2nd playthrough with game knowledge anyone could do it.
I used your honor mode build recommendation as the foundation for completing my run. Not the exact builds but same concept, 3 single target burst damage dealers and 1 AOE/support type. 7/5 Ancients Pally/Draconic Sorcerer 9/3 TB OH Monk/Thief 10/2 Swords bard/paladin (mostly range but could smite for melee burst if needed and CC with helm/ring acuity combo) 11/1 Light Cleric/Wizard (AOE/support) Worked super well for most boss fights and rounded off enough to cover the others even if it wasn’t max optimization for those, e.g., didn’t bring magic missile to fight Orin but controlled the fight comfortably. Smashed Raphael and Cazador.
Every time i watch a karlach death scene or something i tear up. i got so invested in her story the first time i played through the game, and seeing her having to continually make sacrifices is heartbreaking. i havent finished the video yet, but i'm so hooked, this is awesome
In my first run, which took 3.5 months and 170+ hours, (githyanki bard, romance with Karlach) I sacrificed myself and became an illithid (for some reason I thought it was reversible after the Netherbrain's death). In the final dialogue I volunteered to help Lae'zel, hoping for a fight with the Queen. Imagine my surprise when Tav-illithid and Lae'zel just flew away, abandoning his beloved Karlach, no cutscenes with the companions happened, except Karlach, who just burned down on the pier under the surprised looks of Shadowheart and Will (Blade of Avernus by the way). I was furious. Thank God it wasn't Honor mode and I was able to replay the final, sacrificed Orpheus, watched all the companions cutscenes and went to live happily (???) with Karlach in Hell.
I lost my first Honor Mode playthrough right at the end with the absolute because I couldn't hit her with my barbarian(Your tavern brawler build). I learned in my second playthrough that the hitbox is small and on top of her head near the back. I was infuriated but the game is so good I didn't mind playing it again.
I love the radiant orb/reverberation combo, use them on shadowheart, the spineshudder amulet does reverb on ranged spell damage, the light coming off blood of lathander counts as this with undead/fiends, which is a condition which triggers the gloves and boots to apply reverb, very high likelyhood just walking by the right type of enemy will hit them with 6 turns of reverb and knock them prone.
I couldn’t throw anything at the netherbrain either in my honour mode run! Not sure why, but it was a bummer since I had no issues with berserker thrower up until that point. I definitely might have panicked and resorted to barrelmancy to blow up the brain and secure the golden dice 😅 Though seeing you do 300+ damage in ONE TURN without action surge whilst running low on spell slots makes me want to try another run and try to beat the brain without barrels! Great stuff from you, your guides helped me maximize my builds and made honour mode a real breeze. Took me a few tries but as soon as it clicked that I just needed to go into every fight prepared, nothing was unattainable. You helped with that mindset! Thanks for all your guidance, and congrats on beating honour mode!
I only just finished my honor run a few days ago, college of swords bard. the sword you get from saving vanra is my new best friend, two reactions! TWO COUNTERSPELLS PER TURN. what a joy
Nice job! Congrats! I made Karlach an ilithid on my first playthrough and it felt rather bittersweet. On the one hand, it solved her heart problem and allowed her to stay on the surface. On the other, she sounded different in the epilogue party (distant) and kept talking about craving her friend's brains. She seemed happy, but it was still creepy. I don't think I'll do that again.
Totally... it's like... she *says* she's happy but... I'm not sure I believe her :). Sending her back into Avernus seems way better, especially since she comes back and she's all "we're close to figuring out how to fix my heart!" That's for sure the route I'm going this next run... playing as Wyll and going to romance her and go back into Hell together :).
@@DnDDeepDive nice! After my first playthrough, I've built my parties around who I'm romancing and the rule is the love interest has to always be in the party. This time I'm romancing Gale (using your Ice Breaker abjuration wizard build). My character is a Lore Bard with a dip in life cleric for some healing. Karlach is a wild magic Barb (to try something different and because magic party!), and Astarion is a swords bard, which I'm not entirely sure about yet, but it seemed funny at the time. Eventually I'll get around to the origin stories. There is just so much replayability in this game.

I let her talk me into making her the illithid instead of me, thinking the achievement for going squid would pop, and then I compounded my grief by choosing to rule the brain....oh, gods, that's one choice I will never make again. I felt so traumatized for my sweet friend that I immediately started a fresh play, romanced her (I never romance in games), and went with her to Avernus. Redeemed, sort of. I still bear emotional scars over that cheevo-hounding playthrough.
Man i love me some paladin action! Did my 1st honour mode playtrough with a 7 oathbreaker/5 drac. sorcerer (armour of agathys shenanigans lmao), Shadowmom was 10 life cleric/2 bard, Astarion 9 gloomstalker/3 thief, and Gael 10 abj. wizard/2 sorc. I really enjoyed it, wasn't as hard as i feared it'd be, no1 ever died in my party, and i got 2 downed characters the whole run. Grats on completing it, that dice is really neat! But for real, now im hooked on the paladin, doin my 2nd honour mode run with a necro tematic build, 3 oathbreaker/9 necro wizard, currently at the end of act1!
Hey Colby, the thrown weapons failing on brain is a known bug. What you should do is target it in the targets on top of the screen (this is in general a good tip to avoid targeting companions/ground). Hope you do the build of that dragonborn main, looks fun.
I've had the same issue with throwing at brain, I was ungodly mad at this, hope they fix this in patch 6. Anyway good job and thank you because I've finished honor mode mostly thanks to your builds and tips :)
I also had issues with throw on the brain. I would throw the rune powder bomb, it would stall for a second on contact, then comically bounce back to my character.
Grats Colby. It's one of the best achievements i ever got in video games and i'm a 80's arcade kid! I got 100% a few days ago and honour mode was a joy!
Hey Colby, congrats on the win! If you don't mind, could you list some of the major choices you made in the story during your playthrough? I'm really curious what an optimized Dark Urge gets up to in order to reach the finale. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some more actual BG3 gameplay on the channel, as I'm sure many others would agree with. Seeing the builds you craft in action really drives home how powerful some of these builds truly are.
I know the feeling of the monstrosities that come of multiclassing lmao. It's not our fault that all the classes give you so many nice things...good stuff! I feel like most of the optimization circles (especially the general consensus on BG3 builds reddit) don't go through more than 2 classes but idk, war cleric dip and wizard dip are so strong. Also Karlach IS the best companion.
I just finished my tactician run yesterday with my Moon Druid Tav. I know Honour’s an entirely different beast but Invisibility makes this encounter way more manageable. Started the last fight with my Duergar invisibility and Shadowheart upcasting to hide herself/emperor/rest of the party. We were on the other side of the map before the Thralls and Dragon could do anything. Then Shadowheart just kept Emperor invisible until the gate opened.
Man you would blow up if you started streaming regularly. Love the content as always!

You know, the REAL honor mode would be beating the honor mode without tavern brawler and swords bard to be honest (and titanstring bow) :D They are like in every playthrough haha, sooo busted. But your DU paladin smites just won the whole fight by itself I feel like :D
Just beat honor mode last night. A fun but sometimes stressful challenge at times. I used a storm sorcerer as my Tav, astarion was a gloomstalker and thief, karlach was a Pali sorcerer, and shadowheart was a temp cleric.
Commenting and what you said at the end: Smite bards are extremely powerful and also very popular, but it is a build that is strong because of DND tabletop rules and isnt squeezing out every ounce of power from the game's itemization. TB thrower was much more powerful in tactician where the damage riders (things like +1d4 from the ring of flinging or hunters mark) were treated as damage sources and could cause other damage riders to trigger, massively inflating damage compared to honour mode. Ranged bard is pretty close to a smite bard. You get to around 60 dmg per slashing flourish with a bow (ignoring crits) but there is some hidden gear that gives a small paladin aura analogue which gives anything within range piercing vulnerability (even overriding resistance). Grab crossbow expert or really precise positioning and you get the most powerful single target attack action in the game. Ranged bard can also use spam arrows of many targets twice to do like 200 aoe dmg, get +10 save DC (or +8 if you used only one) from arcane acuity and then the ability to cast any illusion or enchantment spell as a bonus action meanwhile your save DC is so ludicriously high that even legendary resistances leave you with +80% sucess rates. Combine the last two points and you get top tier nova power and the best control casting in the game and for the most part just because it makes use of 3 items that you can very easily miss.
My honor mode went about as well, killed dragon and emperor but I went straight up the sides and used scrolls of globe of invulnerability to hide my team from the magic missiles and stray attacks on way up. Used Astarion with arrow of many targets to take out the dream visitors, monk laezel and karlach (her origin playthrough and my first run going past act 2 and turned her illithid) ripped through anyone in the way. I think I had a deva and elementals summoned to distract the dragon and take its reaction fire away each turn. Best takeaway was accidentally finding dragon had a 100% chance to hit with irresistible dance and just awkwardly shuffled for a turn.
Maybe a stupid question but I'm not sure what I'm overlooking or if I missed that in the video: Why are almost all of your chars' stats uneven? With some of the "set your (ability score x) to whatever" items that would be kinda obvious to me but as far as I can see, only your Tav has 16 int and everything else is uneven. Isn't the game still rounding down to calculate modifiers? Completely unrelated to that, it's really great to see some of your gameplay for a change. I'm a huge fan of your build videos and you actually seem like THE nicest person - which is yet another reason to be happy whenever you put out something that's worth liking and sharing. :) Cheers from Germany and keep up the great work, Colby!
Danke! I can't remember why, but I think someone that I brought on as a "helper" at the end gave everyone a +1 to every stat. Some kind of blessing or someting for saving them?
You know how all the people you helped throughout the game give you an additional ability during the endgame? It's either saving the Grove in Act 1 or doing Halsin's quest in Act 2 (I don't remember which) gives you Halsin's blessing which raises all attribute points by 1 for your whole party (only during this final endgame stretch)
@@jasonm.6442 To me if feels like a failsafe for new players that never bother to learn how attributes actually work. Most of the companions start with multiple odd number stats. Halsin's buff at least makes sure you're gaining some kind of benefit, even if it's a niche one.
I love that every time you drop a BG3 video I turn to my girlfriend (someone who has never played dnd or BG3) and say “babe Colby just dropped another video” and she cheers 🎉
Currently on act 3 of solo honour mode on a no cheese (barrelmancy, owlbear from the top rope) run. Shit is hard but assassin/gloomstalker/fighter is pretty dang good
I was thinking of a character concept what if you combine a paladin with a divine soul i would love to see where your optimizing mind could go with that. Awesome video btw your builds are top notch
I beat my Honour run playing a Bladesinger/Pally. It was so much fun. DnD was right to put such harsh restrictions on Pally multiclass. It would be a constant dip for me.
I also ran into issues trying to throw weapons at the brain, and the "Death" curser means that if you throw the item it's just permanently gone, doesn't return to your hand even for bound weapons. Seems like a bug to me, but other comments suggest it's a hitbox issue and to click on the portrait for targetting instead.
On every single playthrough of bg3 that i summoned Dame Aylin for the final fights, she got dominated and proceeded to smite the crap outta my party. Didn't risk summoning any allies on honour mode. Congrats on your golden die!
Had similar issues on my run. Orpheus made sacrifice and for the final fights approaching the brain stem I had Dark Urge & Gale invis and fly past. Somehow enemies agro rest of parry and killed them down below. (Only caster was down there who used lv 3 invis on those two. Plan was for Gale to use Orb. However, I could not climb the brain stem. I thought it was for lack of an ilithid. Perhaps you could because you had the inventory one. Perhaps I could not as party members were dead. At that point I knew my two boys could not fight their way back to get off a res. so Gale did the next best thing involving the orb, while Urge jumped off the platform. It did not work well. Also weird interaction with globe of invulnerability. I cast it and a foe cast ice knife. It did 0 damage but made an ice surface causing caster to fall and lose concentration. That seemed super lame.
So I don’t know if I speak for everyone, but if you enjoyed this I don’t think we mind seeing you play this game possibly instead of a build video every once in a while? You’re just an entertaining guy and we love this game 😂🤷♀️
Weird coincidence, but every time Karlach does the saving the world speech, I always get something in my eye. Throwers are apparently pretty useless against the brain though, the pike died I don't know if you noticed. It returneth no more. I threw all kinds at it.
Frankly, I love spamming summon allies in the final fight on top of the brain. It just exudes "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE" energy. SMALL SPOILER: Do you know about the Dwarven Thrower? A Shar merchant in the refugee camp sells it, along with a bow that just gives free initiative bonus. You want to avoid having Shadowheart in the vicinity if you want to trade, however. It is a slight upgrade to the returning pike, but more significantly, the racial bonus damage makes dwarves "the best" for throwing builds.
Have you tried a swords bard with the combo of the band of the Mystic Scoundrel and the Arcane Acuity helm yet? In Tactician mode, my Astarion (pure ranged swords bard) shot an arrow of many targets and then a ranged flourish to A) kill the Emperor B) generate 10 stacks of acuity and C) use those stacks to land a bonus action Hold Monster on the Dragon. Vs the brain my 4E Karlach ran down and stabbed it a few times with the Orin dagger that applies piercing vulnerability and a couple ranged flourish doing double damage destroyed the brain. Such a beast of a character with those items.
Currently Balder's Gate is too expensive for me. Thank you for showcasing the game, and gameplay. This is primarily how I can experience this game. Also, a question: could it be possible for you and other people to play in a party? Maybe with the Dungeon Dudes? I don't know how do-able it is though.
Just finished my first honour mode this week with a friend on multiplayer. Bith of our furst honour mode or tactician attempts. Our party was: My tav: Human Wildheart Bear Barbarian 9/Champion Fighter 3 Friends Tav: Half-Orc Gloomstalker Ranger 5/Thief Rogue 3/Champion Fighter 4 archer build that crit on 14 or 15+ Shadowheart lvl 12 Life Cleric Karlach Lvl 12 Evocation Wizard Id say the hardest fights were Raphael and Ansur
Ansur was the toughest for me, for sure. Raphael ended up being fairly easy thanks to a well placed Rune Powder Bomb I ended up not needing for the Steel Watch
Just in time. Unless I'm entirely mistaken, Update #6 broke 5eSpells and/or the Blade Singer expansion. It's possible it might have something to do with BG3 Script Extender.
I used dual hand crossbow bard tav and I genuinely feel like the build and gear could have unironically solo cleared honor mode. I didn’t even have any hiccups in my playthrough
I find it hilarious that using D4 builds I beat honour mode a mere two weeks after D4... death ward, aid, longstrider, summons, elixirs of hill giant strength, Heroes Feast and Freedom of Movement are interesting buffs aren't they...
I would like to ask you a question, how would you do Wonder Woman, maintaining your powers such as flight, speed, ability to speak all languages, unarmed attack (with or without shield and sword), grabs, lasso of truth, and especially being able to lift weights and winning strength competitions, in addition to her most famous move from the film, the thunder she creates with her bracelets?
Hi Colby, first many well-deserved congrats. Can I please ask, how does this party compare to your honour mode party build and which do you think would be best to use?
He said he was going to do a build on it eventually, but in the meantime: Any1 know what the level in Wizard is for on his Tav? Is there a specific scroll you want to learn? So far in my current run I've been running almost full pally with a dip in Cleric, partly for the Warding Flare, but mostly simply because I love all the dialogue options of being both a paladin and cleric of Tyr. I do eventually want to go Swords Pally when I hit 9, and was glad to see he has a level in cleric still, but why Wizard instead of either Sorc or a 2nd Cleric lvl?
I’ve been playing since early access and still haven’t beaten act 1 let alone the whole game. Before honor mode I only played tactician, after honor mode I only play honor mode. I might end up doing custom if I ever beat honor mode
How about a breakdown of your Tav - I was intrigued when you said you dipped into cleric (must be war?) and wizard (bard with fireball?) - maybe even a video where you break down some of your respec's (I assume after Hope you went with 10 str and con, right?)
One of my biggest pet peeves is that thrown weapons don't work on the final boss. One of the best builds in the game is super nerfed and forced to be a mediocre melee character.
Can you post your mod list? I'm always looking for cool mods that others have used, played or can vouch for to add to my playthroughs of BG3. Also, what is the "Volo's Guide to Monsters" buff you have on your characters? I don't remember that one from the game so curious as to what it does or how to get it.
I just blew up the Netherbrain with the Runepowder Bomb and other explosives I had. Wasn’t exactly honorable but I was not taking any chances of losing at the very end lol this time I’m doing dark Urge no barrels or bombs lol
2paladin+6sword bard combo is too good. You could go with barb, sorc, fighter, warlock, even druid (personally loved it, perfect on jaheira) or rogue (I used it on astarion which perfectly fits thematically). DLC with couple more extra level would be great to create even more fun builds. Plzzzz larian studios plzzzz
I'm currently on my fourth try of honor mode, the first i failed because gale blew up after i sacrificed him to BOOAAAl ( didnt think this was gonna happen because of a yt viedeo) . The second run failed because in act 2 i played the fight against the "tree boss" bad and the third run failed against ansur. I really wanna beat honor mode run doing every fight (no dialogue skips) and with builds i came up with and some other self imposed rules, useing as little exploits as possible, because if i finish honor mode for the first time, i wanna do it as honorably as possible (in my own eyes)
lol, damn it! I wish I had known about the illithid glitch, because I will be 100% honest and real when I say that it kind of ruined my ending for me… like I was trying to do the right thing y’know? Lae’zel as the main squeeze I had a hard time not going that path, but in the end I didn’t even want to look at my own character 😂 granted, that was not my honor mode run, that was my first tactician mode. Only just started an honour run after a little break.
Yep, don't know why the game doesn't let you throw directly at the brain. Thankfully I had a dozen smokepowder bombs to damage it with AOE for my HM but I hope they change that sometime.
I just lost my first honour mode campaign, got tpk’d at the crèche… holy shit they don’t joke around Now I just have to muster the will to repeat those 25 hours

Paladin/Warlock was my first playthrough and oh boy is it completely busted with some of the illithid powers like getting a free crit. Best feeling ever when I land the 120 damage crit on a boss at level 5.
What is the draw to Pally/Lock? Is it because it's SAD, or maybe the Eldritch Blasts as backup ranged abilities? Is it mostly for flavor purposes? From purely a mechanics standpoint, only having 2 lock spell slots per Short Rest doesn't seem worth it when you could go Sorc or Bard and have way more slots, overall.
@@JeeyellCorps I think the draw comes partly from being able to dump strength with pact of the blade, and then paired with helm of arcane acuity you can land a few melee attacks and then almost guarantee mass turn skips with upcasting command, or guaranteed crits with upcasted hold person because of the super high spell save DC arcane acuity gives you. That's at least how I ran my pal/lock but I did end up respeccing into pal/sorc once i was about lvl 8
Beat honor mode myself about a month ago following your honor mode party (changing the holy warrior for an open hand monk/ thief) and it was great. The real difficulty in honor mode is not knowing what’s next, so on a 2nd playthrough with game knowledge anyone could do it.
This feels surreal, like a dream I've had with Colby doing ASMR while playing a video game. I am so pleased this is actually a reality!
I used your honor mode build recommendation as the foundation for completing my run. Not the exact builds but same concept, 3 single target burst damage dealers and 1 AOE/support type.
7/5 Ancients Pally/Draconic Sorcerer
9/3 TB OH Monk/Thief
10/2 Swords bard/paladin (mostly range but could smite for melee burst if needed and CC with helm/ring acuity combo)
11/1 Light Cleric/Wizard (AOE/support)
Worked super well for most boss fights and rounded off enough to cover the others even if it wasn’t max optimization for those, e.g., didn’t bring magic missile to fight Orin but controlled the fight comfortably. Smashed Raphael and Cazador.

Every time i watch a karlach death scene or something i tear up. i got so invested in her story the first time i played through the game, and seeing her having to continually make sacrifices is heartbreaking.

Great video man! I beat H mode a few weeks ago using the builds in your guide.
In my first run, which took 3.5 months and 170+ hours, (githyanki bard, romance with Karlach) I sacrificed myself and became an illithid (for some reason I thought it was reversible after the Netherbrain's death). In the final dialogue I volunteered to help Lae'zel, hoping for a fight with the Queen. Imagine my surprise when Tav-illithid and Lae'zel just flew away, abandoning his beloved Karlach, no cutscenes with the companions happened, except Karlach, who just burned down on the pier under the surprised looks of Shadowheart and Will (Blade of Avernus by the way). I was furious. Thank God it wasn't Honor mode and I was able to replay the final, sacrificed Orpheus, watched all the companions cutscenes and went to live happily (???) with Karlach in Hell.
I lost my first Honor Mode playthrough right at the end with the absolute because I couldn't hit her with my barbarian(Your tavern brawler build). I learned in my second playthrough that the hitbox is small and on top of her head near the back. I was infuriated but the game is so good I didn't mind playing it again.
You can also click on the portrait at the top where it shows turn order to toggle your attack on an npc
I love the radiant orb/reverberation combo, use them on shadowheart, the spineshudder amulet does reverb on ranged spell damage, the light coming off blood of lathander counts as this with undead/fiends, which is a condition which triggers the gloves and boots to apply reverb, very high likelyhood just walking by the right type of enemy will hit them with 6 turns of reverb and knock them prone.
I couldn’t throw anything at the netherbrain either in my honour mode run! Not sure why, but it was a bummer since I had no issues with berserker thrower up until that point. I definitely might have panicked and resorted to barrelmancy to blow up the brain and secure the golden dice 😅 Though seeing you do 300+ damage in ONE TURN without action surge whilst running low on spell slots makes me want to try another run and try to beat the brain without barrels!
Great stuff from you, your guides helped me maximize my builds and made honour mode a real breeze. Took me a few tries but as soon as it clicked that I just needed to go into every fight prepared, nothing was unattainable. You helped with that mindset! Thanks for all your guidance, and congrats on beating honour mode!

Nice job! Congrats! I made Karlach an ilithid on my first playthrough and it felt rather bittersweet. On the one hand, it solved her heart problem and allowed her to stay on the surface. On the other, she sounded different in the epilogue party (distant) and kept talking about craving her friend's brains. She seemed happy, but it was still creepy. I don't think I'll do that again.
Totally... it's like... she *says* she's happy but... I'm not sure I believe her :). Sending her back into Avernus seems way better, especially since she comes back and she's all "we're close to figuring out how to fix my heart!" That's for sure the route I'm going this next run... playing as Wyll and going to romance her and go back into Hell together :).
@@DnDDeepDive nice! After my first playthrough, I've built my parties around who I'm romancing and the rule is the love interest has to always be in the party. This time I'm romancing Gale (using your Ice Breaker abjuration wizard build). My character is a Lore Bard with a dip in life cleric for some healing. Karlach is a wild magic Barb (to try something different and because magic party!), and Astarion is a swords bard, which I'm not entirely sure about yet, but it seemed funny at the time. Eventually I'll get around to the origin stories. There is just so much replayability in this game.

I let her talk me into making her the illithid instead of me, thinking the achievement for going squid would pop, and then I compounded my grief by choosing to rule the brain....oh, gods, that's one choice I will never make again. I felt so traumatized for my sweet friend that I immediately started a fresh play, romanced her (I never romance in games), and went with her to Avernus. Redeemed, sort of. I still bear emotional scars over that cheevo-hounding playthrough.
Man i love me some paladin action! Did my 1st honour mode playtrough with a 7 oathbreaker/5 drac. sorcerer (armour of agathys shenanigans lmao), Shadowmom was 10 life cleric/2 bard, Astarion 9 gloomstalker/3 thief, and Gael 10 abj. wizard/2 sorc. I really enjoyed it, wasn't as hard as i feared it'd be, no1 ever died in my party, and i got 2 downed characters the whole run. Grats on completing it, that dice is really neat! But for real, now im hooked on the paladin, doin my 2nd honour mode run with a necro tematic build, 3 oathbreaker/9 necro wizard, currently at the end of act1!
Hey Colby, the thrown weapons failing on brain is a known bug. What you should do is target it in the targets on top of the screen (this is in general a good tip to avoid targeting companions/ground).
Hope you do the build of that dragonborn main, looks fun.
I've had the same issue with throwing at brain, I was ungodly mad at this, hope they fix this in patch 6. Anyway good job and thank you because I've finished honor mode mostly thanks to your builds and tips :)
I also had issues with throw on the brain. I would throw the rune powder bomb, it would stall for a second on contact, then comically bounce back to my character.
try aiming for the brain stem, i had the same issue and this was my only fix
Grats Colby. It's one of the best achievements i ever got in video games and i'm a 80's arcade kid! I got 100% a few days ago and honour mode was a joy!

Hey Colby, congrats on the win! If you don't mind, could you list some of the major choices you made in the story during your playthrough? I'm really curious what an optimized Dark Urge gets up to in order to reach the finale.
Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some more actual BG3 gameplay on the channel, as I'm sure many others would agree with. Seeing the builds you craft in action really drives home how powerful some of these builds truly are.
I know the feeling of the monstrosities that come of multiclassing lmao. It's not our fault that all the classes give you so many nice things...good stuff! I feel like most of the optimization circles (especially the general consensus on BG3 builds reddit) don't go through more than 2 classes but idk, war cleric dip and wizard dip are so strong.
Also Karlach IS the best companion.

I just finished my tactician run yesterday with my Moon Druid Tav. I know Honour’s an entirely different beast but Invisibility makes this encounter way more manageable. Started the last fight with my Duergar invisibility and Shadowheart upcasting to hide herself/emperor/rest of the party. We were on the other side of the map before the Thralls and Dragon could do anything. Then Shadowheart just kept Emperor invisible until the gate opened.

You know, the REAL honor mode would be beating the honor mode without tavern brawler and swords bard to be honest (and titanstring bow) :D They are like in every playthrough haha, sooo busted.
But your DU paladin smites just won the whole fight by itself I feel like :D
Indeed - I think it just might be the strongest solo build in game, maybe outside of ranged swords bard.
Just beat honor mode last night. A fun but sometimes stressful challenge at times. I used a storm sorcerer as my Tav, astarion was a gloomstalker and thief, karlach was a Pali sorcerer, and shadowheart was a temp cleric.
Would love to see more Thri-Kreen builds, i feel there is a lot to explore with those arms and good unarmored defence / stealth
Commenting and what you said at the end: Smite bards are extremely powerful and also very popular, but it is a build that is strong because of DND tabletop rules and isnt squeezing out every ounce of power from the game's itemization.
TB thrower was much more powerful in tactician where the damage riders (things like +1d4 from the ring of flinging or hunters mark) were treated as damage sources and could cause other damage riders to trigger, massively inflating damage compared to honour mode.
Ranged bard is pretty close to a smite bard. You get to around 60 dmg per slashing flourish with a bow (ignoring crits) but there is some hidden gear that gives a small paladin aura analogue which gives anything within range piercing vulnerability (even overriding resistance). Grab crossbow expert or really precise positioning and you get the most powerful single target attack action in the game.
Ranged bard can also use spam arrows of many targets twice to do like 200 aoe dmg, get +10 save DC (or +8 if you used only one) from arcane acuity and then the ability to cast any illusion or enchantment spell as a bonus action meanwhile your save DC is so ludicriously high that even legendary resistances leave you with +80% sucess rates.
Combine the last two points and you get top tier nova power and the best control casting in the game and for the most part just because it makes use of 3 items that you can very easily miss.

My honor mode went about as well, killed dragon and emperor but I went straight up the sides and used scrolls of globe of invulnerability to hide my team from the magic missiles and stray attacks on way up. Used Astarion with arrow of many targets to take out the dream visitors, monk laezel and karlach (her origin playthrough and my first run going past act 2 and turned her illithid) ripped through anyone in the way. I think I had a deva and elementals summoned to distract the dragon and take its reaction fire away each turn. Best takeaway was accidentally finding dragon had a 100% chance to hit with irresistible dance and just awkwardly shuffled for a turn.
Incredible! I hope to beat that level as quickly as you did.

Maybe a stupid question but I'm not sure what I'm overlooking or if I missed that in the video: Why are almost all of your chars' stats uneven? With some of the "set your (ability score x) to whatever" items that would be kinda obvious to me but as far as I can see, only your Tav has 16 int and everything else is uneven. Isn't the game still rounding down to calculate modifiers?

Danke! I can't remember why, but I think someone that I brought on as a "helper" at the end gave everyone a +1 to every stat. Some kind of blessing or someting for saving them?
You know how all the people you helped throughout the game give you an additional ability during the endgame?
It's either saving the Grove in Act 1 or doing Halsin's quest in Act 2 (I don't remember which) gives you Halsin's blessing which raises all attribute points by 1 for your whole party (only during this final endgame stretch)
ah, I was wondering about all those odd stats too! That seems very.. useless? Silly Halsin, lol.
@@jasonm.6442 To me if feels like a failsafe for new players that never bother to learn how attributes actually work. Most of the companions start with multiple odd number stats. Halsin's buff at least makes sure you're gaining some kind of benefit, even if it's a niche one.

Currently on act 3 of solo honour mode on a no cheese (barrelmancy, owlbear from the top rope) run. Shit is hard but assassin/gloomstalker/fighter is pretty dang good

you can prevent your party from becoming illithid. by picking the right dialogue options you can make orpheus become the illithid instead
I beat my Honour run playing a Bladesinger/Pally. It was so much fun. DnD was right to put such harsh restrictions on Pally multiclass. It would be a constant dip for me.

Ok! It was in my first bg3 episode 😉.
I also ran into issues trying to throw weapons at the brain, and the "Death" curser means that if you throw the item it's just permanently gone, doesn't return to your hand even for bound weapons. Seems like a bug to me, but other comments suggest it's a hitbox issue and to click on the portrait for targetting instead.
FYI for the future... you should be able to smite on flourishes. Set your divine smite on hit reaction to "ask" (off by default).
On every single playthrough of bg3 that i summoned Dame Aylin for the final fights, she got dominated and proceeded to smite the crap outta my party. Didn't risk summoning any allies on honour mode. Congrats on your golden die!
Had similar issues on my run. Orpheus made sacrifice and for the final fights approaching the brain stem I had Dark Urge & Gale invis and fly past. Somehow enemies agro rest of parry and killed them down below. (Only caster was down there who used lv 3 invis on those two. Plan was for Gale to use Orb. However, I could not climb the brain stem. I thought it was for lack of an ilithid. Perhaps you could because you had the inventory one. Perhaps I could not as party members were dead.
At that point I knew my two boys could not fight their way back to get off a res. so Gale did the next best thing involving the orb, while Urge jumped off the platform. It did not work well.
Also weird interaction with globe of invulnerability. I cast it and a foe cast ice knife. It did 0 damage but made an ice surface causing caster to fall and lose concentration. That seemed super lame.
So I don’t know if I speak for everyone, but if you enjoyed this I don’t think we mind seeing you play this game possibly instead of a build video every once in a while? You’re just an entertaining guy and we love this game 😂🤷♀️

Throwers are apparently pretty useless against the brain though, the pike died I don't know if you noticed. It returneth no more. I threw all kinds at it.
Frankly, I love spamming summon allies in the final fight on top of the brain. It just exudes "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE" energy.
SMALL SPOILER:
Do you know about the Dwarven Thrower? A Shar merchant in the refugee camp sells it, along with a bow that just gives free initiative bonus. You want to avoid having Shadowheart in the vicinity if you want to trade, however. It is a slight upgrade to the returning pike, but more significantly, the racial bonus damage makes dwarves "the best" for throwing builds.
The triple odd numbered stats on his Sbard actually triggers the shit out of me lmao. Crazy multiclass though!
Have you tried a swords bard with the combo of the band of the Mystic Scoundrel and the Arcane Acuity helm yet?
In Tactician mode, my Astarion (pure ranged swords bard) shot an arrow of many targets and then a ranged flourish to A) kill the Emperor B) generate 10 stacks of acuity and C) use those stacks to land a bonus action Hold Monster on the Dragon.
Vs the brain my 4E Karlach ran down and stabbed it a few times with the Orin dagger that applies piercing vulnerability and a couple ranged flourish doing double damage destroyed the brain. Such a beast of a character with those items.
I may be late on this but I’d watch the crap out of you playing a full run :)

Just finished my first honour mode this week with a friend on multiplayer. Bith of our furst honour mode or tactician attempts.

My tav: Human Wildheart Bear Barbarian 9/Champion Fighter 3
Friends Tav: Half-Orc Gloomstalker Ranger 5/Thief Rogue 3/Champion Fighter 4 archer build that crit on 14 or 15+
Shadowheart lvl 12 Life Cleric
Karlach Lvl 12 Evocation Wizard
Id say the hardest fights were Raphael and Ansur
Ansur was the toughest for me, for sure. Raphael ended up being fairly easy thanks to a well placed Rune Powder Bomb I ended up not needing for the Steel Watch

I used dual hand crossbow bard tav and I genuinely feel like the build and gear could have unironically solo cleared honor mode. I didn’t even have any hiccups in my playthrough
So sorry about Karlach, that must have been a heart breaking choice to make. She really is the best of the companions.
I find it hilarious that using D4 builds I beat honour mode a mere two weeks after D4... death ward, aid, longstrider, summons, elixirs of hill giant strength, Heroes Feast and Freedom of Movement are interesting buffs aren't they...
I would like to ask you a question, how would you do Wonder Woman, maintaining your powers such as flight, speed, ability to speak all languages, unarmed attack (with or without shield and sword), grabs, lasso of truth, and especially being able to lift weights and winning strength competitions, in addition to her most famous move from the film, the thunder she creates with her bracelets?

He said he was going to do a build on it eventually, but in the meantime: Any1 know what the level in Wizard is for on his Tav? Is there a specific scroll you want to learn? So far in my current run I've been running almost full pally with a dip in Cleric, partly for the Warding Flare, but mostly simply because I love all the dialogue options of being both a paladin and cleric of Tyr. I do eventually want to go Swords Pally when I hit 9, and was glad to see he has a level in cleric still, but why Wizard instead of either Sorc or a 2nd Cleric lvl?
I’ve been playing since early access and still haven’t beaten act 1 let alone the whole game. Before honor mode I only played tactician, after honor mode I only play honor mode. I might end up doing custom if I ever beat honor mode
How about a breakdown of your Tav - I was intrigued when you said you dipped into cleric (must be war?) and wizard (bard with fireball?) - maybe even a video where you break down some of your respec's (I assume after Hope you went with 10 str and con, right?)
Really need to finish my honour mode playthrough with Wyll as my main. Stupid work and real life getting in the way.
One of my biggest pet peeves is that thrown weapons don't work on the final boss. One of the best builds in the game is super nerfed and forced to be a mediocre melee character.

I just blew up the Netherbrain with the Runepowder Bomb and other explosives I had. Wasn’t exactly honorable but I was not taking any chances of losing at the very end lol this time I’m doing dark Urge no barrels or bombs lol

2paladin+6sword bard combo is too good. You could go with barb, sorc, fighter, warlock,
even druid (personally loved it, perfect on jaheira) or rogue (I used it on astarion which perfectly fits thematically).
DLC with couple more extra level would be great to create even more fun builds. Plzzzz larian studios plzzzz
The only shame is that you didn't get to see the Netherbrains Legendary action. You would have loved it.
I'm currently on my fourth try of honor mode, the first i failed because gale blew up after i sacrificed him to BOOAAAl ( didnt think this was gonna happen because of a yt viedeo) . The second run failed because in act 2 i played the fight against the "tree boss" bad and the third run failed against ansur. I really wanna beat honor mode run doing every fight (no dialogue skips) and with builds i came up with and some other self imposed rules, useing as little exploits as possible, because if i finish honor mode for the first time, i wanna do it as honorably as possible (in my own eyes)
Single man honour run and I'll be impressed.

lol, damn it! I wish I had known about the illithid glitch, because I will be 100% honest and real when I say that it kind of ruined my ending for me… like I was trying to do the right thing y’know? Lae’zel as the main squeeze I had a hard time not going that path, but in the end I didn’t even want to look at my own character 😂 granted, that was not my honor mode run, that was my first tactician mode. Only just started an honour run after a little break.

Yep, don't know why the game doesn't let you throw directly at the brain. Thankfully I had a dozen smokepowder bombs to damage it with AOE for my HM but I hope they change that sometime.
