Howard Cosell once said of John Lennon that he was a man of conviction. That when John got behind something he went with two feet in. Yes this song was in the time of Vietnam. The war ended 4 years later. April 1975, and I took part in the evacuation of Saigon.
When viewing this John has you considering more than one concept...ending wars...living together as one people...acceptance of the rights of all to live free....truly inspirational man...if only more people got the message...thanks for sharing this and your time with us.....Happy Holidays...Karl from eastern Canada☮❤😂
You have brought great music, but even more, you are such a delight to listen to. You are very knowledgeable, and your life force is amazing. Thank you, just found you this year.GRATEFUL
Britt - You're so right. Lennon stated that in his opinion the miracle of the modern age was mass communication. He took his position at the top of the heap very seriously. Most of the worlds' eyes were on him. He made the best of it. This is why he is great aside from writing great siongs. The message became more important. Have a Happy Christmas, btw🎄
The children's voices are the Harlem Community Choir, who were brought in to sing on this track. They are credited on the single along with Yoko and The Plastic Ono Band.
Those ‘kids’ are now over 50 y/o! Let that sink in and think about all the wars that have taken place since this song was released. Human violence must end but it starts with each of us.
I was about the same age as these kids in 1972 remember this vividly use to play this song on my 45 record.. 😢 was so happy the war was over I get my dad back...ALIVE😢
This famous Christmas song written in 1971 has reached our days through wars and suffering and nothing has changed, due to the selfishness that humanity feeds on, there remains only the Hope that humanity becomes like this magnificent choir of children nourished by innocence, Happy Christmas, sweet Britt 🌺
The song wasn't written specifically about the Vietnam War, although that war would have been very much at the forefront of people's minds back when this was first released. It is more of a plea, maybe even a prayer, for an end to all wars. Lennon said he wanted to write it as a Christmas song, so it would be played every year, fully intending that it (and more importantly its message) would become as much of an annual tradition as songs like White Christmas.
John and Yoko were on a mission. John said since they were constantly in the media's eye, as "celebrities," they would use their platform to speak out about important causes. Some other songs he wrote addressed then current events like the Irish-English conflict (Luck Of The Irish), black feminism (Angela Davis), war (I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier Mama) . . . The Beatles / Revolution . . .
Thank you Britt, not having the best Christmas here, but your relentless positivity is infectious and inspiring as usual. All the happiness of Christmas to you and yours and best wishes for the New Year
I've spent all my life looking up to Lennon and this is easily in my top 3 favorite songs of his. It's the one music video I post on social media every Christmas, and get shadowbanned for it + flak because of the flagged content, but I don't care (watch the version with all the suffering, wars and starvation around the world, it hits like a ton of bricks). More music videos should be like this, with a strong, powerful message that depicts the worst and best of humankind, and that change is possible if we really want it. EDIT: ua-cam.com/video/yN4Uu0OlmTg/v-deo.html Merry Xmas & A Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones Britt. Had John lived I think he would have been shocked at how ICONIC this song would become. It is loved around the free world every Christmas. Now if we can get you to do the official video of "Imagine" and not that live crap. The video will touch your soul. A lot of people complain about The Beatles are greedy about their music on U Tube. They say they've made tons of money already. It's not The Beatles per say that are so protective of their copyrights, it's U Tube. They have the rights to all the Beatles music on U Tube. You can listen to all of their music on U Tube because they have the copyrights along with the videos. U Tube doesn't want you reacting to it because you may be profiting from it. Same with Bob Dylan who along with The Beatles are the two strictist copyrights on U Tube. That's because they are the two greatest talents of the 20th century. If you have a patreon channel you can play and react to all of their music because they don't control the copyrights. See how that works? It's called greed with U Tube, don't blame The Beatles or Dylan. You may be safe doing doing Lennon official videos, they don't fall under The Beatles and there are some great John ones. "Imagine", " How Do You Sleep studio out take" video which by the way is credited as the first diss track aimed at his partner Paul McCartney although I think that Dylan had him beat by 6 years with his two 1965 tracks "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Positively 4th Street" two great tracks. More great John videos are "Mind Games" "Jealous Guy" "God" is a great one. "Mother" is gut wrenching and from his last Lp Double Fantasy "Starting Over" "Watching The Wheels" great song and video. "Woman" another great one and you already did "Beautiful Boy". There's two brothers you might want to reach out to about The Beatles and their channel is " Airplay Beats". Two really cool black dudes who are real brothers. They've been Beatles Lp's for a while now. They just started with The Beatles first two tracks from the "White Album" last week. I think they would be more than glad to give you advice. Really cool guys, check out their Beatles reactions, they're really digging their trip down The Beatles rabbit hole. I always hear that on Beatles songs that if you take a quick pause or two you'll be ok, stay away from playing it straight thru and you're all about pausing (almost too much) and stay away from Beatles official videos. I hear it's a great way to get a quick strike which is a shame. Check these brothers out. They do whole Lp's but not all make it on UTube but what doesn't they post on patreon. You have no clue what you're missing with The Beatles. They're still regarded as the greatest and most influential band in history 54 yrs after they split up for a reason Britt. Because they were that F**king Great! That's why Britt! Happy Holidays & Peace ❤😢
I was a 16 year old schoolboy when this came out. The war in Vietnam was a regular on the news. I am not so ignorant s I was but much less accepting. Beautiful song btw, Happy Holidays to all.
This is such a beautiful song, regardless of the lyrics, just musically. John was a pure magician with the simple and classic musical vocabulary. Anyone can dig up the same-old-same-old, but few could make it his own like John always did. And that is the rarest of gifts. This song almost doesn't need the lyrics, the sentiment is all there in the music. Say what you will about his PR stunts for peace, but this song is genius.
This is an all-time great, not just Christmas song imo but great song in general. If u like it than I would suggest u listening to Sarah McLachlan's cover of it, it's very good.
This holiday song was done during the Vietnam War, wanting peace for the Vietnamese people, and for the fighting to end. John Lennon was passionate about this, as this song is kinda relevant today, as conflicts are being wages in parts of the world, people being displaced during what is to be a joyous time of year. IMHO.
Just thought of a few and thought I would tell you before I forgets, Trex, "Bang a Gong", The Guess Who, "American Woman", The Cars, "Let the good times roll" All three of these bands have multiple hits and are super stars in their own unique sounds. Good Jobs, Britt. PDC, that was funny, once I figured out what it stood for. lol
As a music artist, John is an icon, and I am a fan of his music, and although I don't totally agree with his political views, I do respect his willingness to express them, and his straightforward way of expressing them, as well as him not backing down, or trying to go along to get along. If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything, and his views are his stance, right or wrong, he was not afraid to make them known.
John was a gifted song writer, messenger, and talent. It is now 44 years since his murder, but his message continues on, he is dearly missed by so many of my generation. Britt, you really should listen to his song 'Across the Universe' and then listen to Amy Lee (Evanescence) cover ' Across the Universe'. I think you will be truly amazed at John's gifts!
Reaction requests: Xiran Jay Zhao - "The First Emperor of China's Ridiculously Dramatic Life". Roanoke Tales - "Mysterious Ship VANISHES, Resurfaces DESTROYED 2300 Miles Away | The Sarah Joe" I know they're not what you normally react to but I think you'd be entertained.
I do think you have enough context to understand the song. John wrote conceptually on purpose. War is senseless destruction; it can come in any form and in any situation.
If you’re interested in other versions of this song, check out the cover by Melissa Etheridge. It was a live recording of the song, but was so good they made a video for it.
Aloha Britt, if ever their is a person who truly appreciates raw, simplistic, one man's talent its YOU.Sammy Davis was such an entertainer ( plays piano, drums, dances, taps and most underated SINGS ) PLEASE 🙏 watch a clip of TAPS the movie the " Challenge" scene. Thank god we have these video's that preserve what REAL ENTERTAINER is suppose to be. You'll die how talented all these men were. Please 🙏 🙏 react to this clip. You grew up being a dancer You'll love this video. Mahalo David
Historical references aren't majorly required with this song, or ANY of John's songs, to be honest. Yes, this song is in direct reference to the Viet Nam conflict (1971), but John, in general, was opposed to war and conflict of all kinds and at all times. This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs (understand that, saying that, I actually have a pretty long list of Christmas songs that I HAVE to hear in order for it to be truly "Christmas"). It's quite possible you've heard this during Christmas time, or, at least, a version of the song (there are several recent artists who've made their own version of this NOW iconic song).
Sorry for the sad emoji with the teary eye. I don't know how I hit that. I'm rather happy today, although you can maybe interpet as sad for no Beatles music on your channel. Yeah, we'll go with that.

It's just his Christmas wish for the world, and for peace. He's telling us all that War could be over if we wanted it to be. It's up to us.
You have brought great music, but even more, you are such a delight to listen to. You are very knowledgeable, and your life force is amazing. Thank you, just found you this year.GRATEFUL

John and Yoko had a ‘Peace In’ at the height of the Vietnam war at their apartment in New York, which was widely covered by the press!
Merry Christmas, Britt, to you and your family!

Beautiful song and a lovely reaction, Happ Christmas to you and yours , enjoying your company in Ireland.
Don't worry... We get it every Christmas

Sending lots of Love and Healing...🥰💜🥰
Christmas 1980...this song was played constantly on the radio. Lennon was shot/killed on December 8 that year.
Lovely song!! Makes me happy when I hear it 😊

He whispered Happy Christmas to his son Julian. Julian is a very good musician also, and he is involved in humanitarian efforts in many ways.

I'd-heard "without any- -tear.

One of my fav Christmas songs ❤
"Sota on ohi" is finish and it means "The War Is Over".
Lennon -was shot; I'd -cried that night; infant -in diapers, 10 months-; I feel it-'d -been, Britt.

Britt you are missing out, you ned to look at erik grönwall - oh holy night its like one week old and you will finally se the piano man Jona.
Christmas Eve...my 61 birthday 🎂
"Sota on ohi" means War is over, in Finnish language... Best regards from Espoo, Finland!
You cut it short and missed the 'Happy Christmas' from the choir at the end.
¡Yeah!; it-'s after-midnight, Booggaloo, and we's about onto- scream and shout;
Yeah, so- you-' -tell me-; ¡Twist and Shout!; -just recalled); songs' -name, Britt.
”SOTA ON OHI” is Finnish for ”war is over”.
You gotta react to sid Siriam high for this weekend cover!!
❤🎉😊
I have all Beatles never heard this. Matrix
Happy Christmas(Woke is over).
Sorry for the sad emoji with the teary eye. I don't know how I hit that.
I'm rather happy today, although you can maybe interpet as sad for no Beatles music on your channel. Yeah, we'll go with that.
Dig TARJA'S cover too 😍😍🥰🥰🤩🤩!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Korean, most likely, Britt.
Yoko Ono is now 91 years old.
I love the song, but I wish he'd recorded it with Wings instead of Yoko
You should check out your girl Leann Rimes doing Stevie Wonders someday at christmas
So does anyone know what Sota on Ohi means? I tried to look it up but didn’t get anywhere..
he was contrivers al but did not deserve to be killed
