I like these contests because they provide a specific purpose, deadline, and conclusion to the mapping process, and being only 1 month long means you feel the pressure, but know that perfection is impossible. This is exactly what CS2 needs, just more of this. Fun maps that are more casual, the competitive side is a big thing but the original casual fun with friends should never die.
Could it be because it’s a new map so people feel genuinely surprised when running around? Cause after you play the same maps several times in a row, it can get boring as people find camping spots or memorize every part of a map.
To be honest the Hedgemaze map with a bit of more pollishing, myth have a chance to be officially added in CS2 by valve in a future operation or something similar. Also you should add a time stamp of each map in the description of the video for easier rewatch, just a small advice.

Have to say that this event was very educational for me. It pushed me to make my first real map and to learn the hammer editor for source 2. I loved this experience a lot and the community was really helpful. I'd say I succeeded. I finished a map, and I didn't get last place :D
The damaging water gave me an idea for a map set in some kind of chemical plant with some leakage and that could add to the playability, also some zones where the players can fall into the chemical sludge and die or take damage over time.
deathmatch maps in csgo/2 are simply always fun because the guns are fun. even if the map is a literal square it will be fun or even a 300m² maze. people will always enjoy shooting each other

About the footprints, maybe you can take an inspiration from rainbow six. Each character has a "unique" footprint (basically there are like 4 or 5 different footprint patterns spread across different operators) and there is one operator Jackal, who can see and scan them. But the way the footprints work is just a regular 2d texture on the floor like a spray. If you so care about the depth you can use bump or normal maps. And you may add 2 different types of prints, one for T's one for CT's, if possible. Just as an idea. I just think, a 2d flat texture would be much better performance wise, since there is no geometry changing. Or you can try to use the same architexture you used with the different tiles changing geometry, but instead of geometry, there might be a texture layer appearing.
Ah i wish i saw this, i've made a rainbow six type map for CS:GO where you could spawn with danger zone items based on your class and there was random hostage locations in the map with walls that can be breached by CTs and reinforced by Ts. It was really fun but now that CS:GO is gone it cannot be played unless you access to the older game versions.

Round freeze time should be set to 30 seconds. In that time, the Ts choose on which of the three bombsites they will plant, after freeze time ends they cannot change it. Bomb plant zones will move underneath/over the map accordingly (in order to not mess up the radar or give any hints to the CTs, if that's how it works). I do already have a few layout ideas for it on paper, never got around to make any. Hope someone sees this.

this is one of the main things that makes me miss csgo. for some reason it had so much more unique and cool maps despite the new tools/engine gives mappers alot more options maybe its because it hasn't been around as long yet but i feel like the creativity is kinda leaving.

I think the reason why Deathmatch/Arms Race maps are more enjoyable, is because they are more casual.

I initially didn't have the timestamps to not spoil the results for participants watching. Now theyr in place 🙏

the armory is a replacement for operations, as it borrows almost all features from the past operation and making it cost more money
