Geoff even grew the little pumpkin that sat on the piano.
Perhaps because his wife, Kathy, has hearing loss, Geoff is sure to enunciate every word carefully.

Yes, I also think that working at Disney/Universal theme parks had an effect on the enunciation of those members of VP that did so, as they needed to be heard by a large group, with other things going on around them..?

I think the one thing I will never get used to with Geoff's singing is his use of two octave leaps/switches. It's not just unusual to hear, but even more unusual that they are done so casually. ❤

Which, to be honest, is what makes him so unique. He's bouncing around his range while needing to change his larynx placement dramatically... this is verging on an improbable feat in the real-world; yet, Geoff pulls it off time and time again. Any bass voice will tell you, because of the size of our larynx, there is normally a slight catch when going from a low to a neutral larynx; Geoff has worked out how to deal with it. But he takes it a step further and goes from a low, to neutral, to a high larynx in a single line.

The portion of the outro with him at the piano, when the snow begins to fall was pure Geoff. He wanted a hopeful ending which does not exist in the original. That's his personality, his choice, and I love it!
    Great reaction!

Geoff loves Halloween 🎃. Kathy said this gave Geoff the perfect excuse to go to Home Depot to buy more pumpkins, that moon, and those spooky trees. Ninety present of this set came from their yard and home decor. Rick Underwood did his makeup magic. Geoff did donate the moon to Layne and Tony's PattyCake Productions. Shame on you for not watching Geoffs'outro. Always watch to the very end.

Aww, please no shaming the reactors for not watching the outros. Many of them do watch it, but just dont put it in their videos. It's better to just ask them to also react to the outros, or remind them that there can be fun stuff in the outros as well, instead of making it a negative thing ❤️

I really like almost everything Geoff has done. THIS, however, stands out. This is my favorite! Very detailed reaction for a one-time listen! The vocals are amazing, and the "spoken" (non-pitched, I think?) dialogue is just as mesmerizing. His acting ability is excellent as well. He really captures what I think Jack (if he were real) feels! You don't miss much! Great job!

Loved the reaction. Just don't forget to see the outro even if you dont react to it. A lot of times Geoff and VoicePlay have funny little outtakes and like on this video you get to see them setting things up. And of course there's Geoff's deep voice thanking his patrons and who would deny themselves hearing his deep voice?😅

Ah! You welcome suggestions? Then if it's okay, I will list my "rules" (heh) for listening to Voiceplay/Geoff videos. (And Home Free too, for that matter.) Just like this or heart it or respond and I'll know it's okay.
As for Geoff's precise pronunciations of the lyrics, i honestly can't count how many songs I've listened to for years, but never really knew they lyrics until Geoff or Voiceplay covers them!
    💙

    • @DravenGal
      @DravenGal 6 місяців тому +7

Okay, cool! Here are the rules/suggestions. I just kind of came up with them on my own, but after years of being a Voiceplaya, I've found they're useful for optimal Voiceplay (and to a degree, Home Free and Geoff as well) listening and viewing. If you've already got some of them down, know I'm just posting the list, not criticizing your reactor skills!
      The "rules":
#1) VERY important! ALWAYS watch to the very end of the video, or at least a ways into the patrons scrolling. Often times it may LOOK like the video has ended, but there's an outro. Also, watching to the end lets you see their awesome cover art, and listen to their music a bit longer! And we as Voiceplayas love those end bits too!
#2) Always leave the closed captions on. Geoff's wife Kathy (who helps with their videos, she also appears in some, such an amazing woman!) has hearing loss, so sometimes there will be little hidden gems in the CC.
#3) If you pause a video to speak, rewind it five-ten seconds before you start it again, to make sure you don't miss anything.
#4) Don't look away from the screen, or close your eyes for more than a second, because, again, you might miss a visual gag or clever moment. Their videos are loaded with them.
#5) Don't go into their videos with expectations on what the song will be like, i.e., that it will be the same as the original. These guys put their own spin on things. The only thing to expect, generally, is to be blown away by their sheer talent.
#6) Unless you have a REALLY great speaker system with stereo sound, ALWAYS wear good headphones/earbuds with Voiceplay and Geoff. They do amazing little tricks you can only pick up with those hearing devices. Plus, some of Geoff's notes are so low you practically can't hear them without headphones
Oh, and FYI, Voiceplay currently is (just as a refresher):
Geoff Castellucci: His lowest note, currently, is a B0. You can hear it in Voiceplay's "Valhalla Calling." You almost feel it more than you hear it.
      J. None. Handsome African-American, with a dreamy voice! Currently on reverse leave, he is away from the group singing for the Navy (they asked him!), but frequently does videos with VP when he can, which is fairly awesome. Until it is officially announced he won't be returning, I'll still consider him a member, but that's me.
Eli Jacobsen (pronounced El-ee, NOT E-lie!) Tenor rock god. He has no hair on his head, but his beard is amazing.
Cesar De La Rosa, their newest member. He brings the feels to every performance! And he flirts with the camera, and it flirts right back! Sometimes has a beard, sometimes not.
Layne Stein, their beatboxer. Sometimes he sings, and it's always a treat to hear his voice. He's also known as The Carrot Lord and VioLayne. For more on the "carrot thing," check out Huldra Draco's channel!)
To fill their currently empty fifth spot, they have many guests they share the stage with. Some, like Rachel Potter and Omar Cardona and Anthony Gargiula have done enough videos and shorts with them to qualify as honorary Voiceplay members, IMO. But they have a knack for picking the perfect guest for each song, although sometimes Fate does play a part.
Okay, there ya go! Again no offense against you in passing these on, I'm just trying to help. Feel free to ignore them if you wish! Take care! Looking forward to future videos!
      💙

This was perfect! For me, this is probably one of the most 'extravagant' solo-Geoff videos, if you'd kept watching the outro (as you should!) you would have seen the smile on Jack's face as the snow started falling - plus some BTS bits of him getting the makeup (because of this, this is the only one AFAIK that Geoff is not wearing his wedding ring, or the necklace Kathy gave him!). Because of the time it took to shoot, he said that his neighbours are used to seeing him come home looking 'strange', apparently it took a couple of days to get all the black off again! 😉

This has always been my favorite song from the movie. Geoff’s using both high and low registers really shows the dichotomy that is Jack. Everyone I watch this I am amazed at the total performance: vocals, accompaniment, set and the acting. I love where he finger-walks across the piano. ( And poor My Unlucky)

  • @Wildecat10
    @Wildecat10 6 місяців тому +17

That was Geoff really playing that piano. However, that piano is not what you heard. That piano belongs to Pattycake Productions, and is strictly for visuals. I think some of Geoff’s best acting is when he plays an out of tune piano for his videos. Shenandoah was another example of him acting through a bad piano. He has bought piano that can be taken apart and moved to his various locations, but for this one he wanted the look of this piano.

The props were Geoff and Kathy's from their home and yard. Geoff's adding some of his makeup and props at the end...it's absolutely half the best of the video. And we all like to see the good stuff at the end like Kathy activating Zero the dog - how she does it, the makeup guy doing Geoff up, Geoff stacking the pumpkins. This is stunning and at the top of the 5 best. When he did this one, I thought he couldn't beat it and my favorite is defined by my mood that day. Sometimes it top 1, sometimes 2 or 3 but always loved. Folsom Prison Blues.

Thanks for another enthusiastic reaction and very informative analysis! Geoff and Voice Play really are the kings of Halloween as it is their favorite holiday and a tradition for them to really get into the Halloween spirit. Geoff and his wife, Kathy, both worked for a long time starting after their graduation from high school for Universal theme park in Orlando Florida. They worked the "Beetlejuice Rock&Roll Graveyard Review" attraction (as other Voice Play members did) and the annual monthlong "Halloween Horror Nights" among other attractions. Ricki Underwood (makeup artist for Universal theme park) did Geoff's makeup here and has been a long time friend since their days of working for Universal. Rick still does complicated makeup for Geoff and Voice Play (especially when it involves prosthetics) and can be seen applying Geoff's makeup if you go back and check the behind the scenes at the end of this video. Voice Play has done other covers from "Nightmare Before Christmas" and both solo Geoff and Voice Play have a lot they have released every year for Halloween that you would enjoy.

Geoff has produced some fabulous videos, but something about when he gets to go big, in terms of acting, take up the whole stage, use his whole body-it always draws out the best in him. I suspect these large, cartoony characters (cuz also Ooogie Boogie) are a ton of fun for him as well. We also get a sort of cameo from his wife Kathy, in that she’s the puppeteer for Zero.
BTW, there’s a great interview that includes Layne, Geoff and Kathy, just recently came out. I’ll see if I can find the link. Lots of background info about Voiceplay and Geoff and Kathy as a couple. ua-cam.com/video/tXy1GbEGGOo/v-deo.htmlsi=u6X_gGD7e35c-X3z
You might notice if you go back to videos from pre-quarantine or early quarantine that Geoff’s timbre way down even into his subs has become a lot smoother and similar to his mid-range voice. His slides are much smoother as well-there are lots of things that show that he took advantage of that “down” time during quarantine to put in the hard work and up his game. Lots of similar signs with all the others in Voiceplay as well. So much respect for them for not just letting that whole mess give them an excuse to slack off! And speaking as one of the shut-ins who discovered them during the lockdown, we REALLY appreciate that they also realized that the way to keep their “business” moving was to home in on the videos and up the production as well.
    Great reaction!!

You might enjoy The Bass Gang’s latest video, If I Had A Heart (from the TV show Vikings). It features Ekaterina Shelehova-if you haven’t encountered her in the opera world you are going to love her voice. Also, one of the members of TBG-Peter Barber-is a professional opera singer (bass baritone). These are some really talented guys who have managed to put out some terrific music despite a lot of difficulties in that they live in different parts of the world, and started out with very limited resources. This is another group that’s put a lot of work into upping their game with each release. Each of them also has a lot of incredible solo work that is worth checking out.

Once again, Rick Underwood created makeup magic for Geoff, including painting the bones on the backs AND palms of his hands, rather than going with gloves. Most of the pumpkins used in the video belong to the Castelluccis (one of the large pumpkin stacks belongs to PattyCake Productions. The tombstones belong to PCP. Geoff found that amazing moon light on Amazon. The video shoot piano was, as happened on Shenandoah, out of tune. The scene at the end, intended to give a bit of hope after such a somber song, was originally meant to have the present Geoff had in White Christmas to suddenly appear before Jack, but they couldn't find it. While Kathy was talking to Tony about it, he said "Oh, we have a snow machine" and thus, the credits scene was born. Zero was not in the cut of the video released to Patreon, and Jack's eyes turned red rather than having the pumpkins in them.
