To continue with the OEM+ upgrades, I've decided to add Euro Spec LED tail lights to my facelift MK6 Jetta. Thanks to A Mancuso for the wiring help.
If you have bulb out warnings you need to code the following: Central Electronics: Byte 19: bit 4, bit 6, bit 7. Enable them to turn off the warning.

Thanks to this video i got my leds installed with the inner lights blinking too. You are the man!
Glad the video helped you out!
How did you do it im so confused?
Glad to be able to help. Great video.
Thanks for the comment! Glad you found the video. Haha.
This video is awesome because it tells me the instructions to put LED Tail Lights on the Volkswagen Jetta to replace the Regular Tail Lights so this is why i'm watching this video for my dad and of course he will like it because I know he likes Volkswagens.
Happy to help!
thank you man! its very helpful for me
No problem, glad you liked it!
Great vid Mike, awesome DIY vids, see it is getting slightly warmer 👌😁! The lights on your car look badass bro! Onder I need some FoST content buddy
+FreSTrada420 it was 41 degrees at the time of filming this. Felt great compared to the 0 degree weather we've been dealing with lol. Time for Onder to do some mods now!
I am waiting for this weather to get nicer. I dont like working in the cold weather. Even with a heated garage! But no worries more mods are coming for the ST!
Great wiring help! Thank you
Glad it helped!
Great vid, dude
Greetings from Russia!
Glad you enjoyed!
The tail lights are not available anymore but please keep this up it's a great place for wiring info
Will do! Assuming there are still other sellers out there, but this should be a good resource.
@@FocusedGarage actually with looking yes just your link is dead now
these look sick👍
Thanks! Love how they looked on the car.
Forgot to ask about the spoiler......where dis you get......its outstanding
Just go to eBay and type in "MK6 Jetta carbon fiber spoiler"
Ty i want to do this so bad and will help so much ty very much
Happy to help!
Hey man, great video, i got the same tail lights and they work really good, but every time I turn on the running lights, blinkers o even the break lights, a light on the dashboard turns one, the notification if one of the lights is not working, but they all are working just fine. Any suggestions?
Yes, you need turn off bulb check signal with Vagcom or OBDeleven.
My husband put mine on tonight and they look amazing! I am so happy with them and the way he wired them my turn signal does the hyper flash (I am guessing that’s what it is). I do get the bulb out error on the dash but I don’t even care about that because I am so happy with the way this lights look! Your video was great 👍🏻
Glad this video helped you out!
You’re Jetta looks awesome what percent tint do you have
This has 5% tint on it. Thanks for the kind words!
Great vid here! Installed similar taillights like these but the signals are sequential instead of static like yours. I still received a bulb out warning though. VCDS fault codes are "010 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent" for both left and right tail lights. One thing I do want to highlight is my stock taillights have fog lights whereas the new ones don't. So the coding you gave there can turn off my BOW?
I'm not sure what coding you'd use for the rear fog. You may have to dive in and do some wiring or coding research for that.
Hey, great video, thanks for doing this, I’ve been searching for one just like this for a long time. Quick question, on the outer harness, looks like there is an extra wire tap on wire #1 or 2, is that necessary? Or just a mistake? Thanks!
That was a mistake by me! Lol. I had my wires mixed up when I was attempting to run my turn signla to the inner lights. Good catch.
Figure. Thanks for the quick reply!
Hello, thank you for the video. Do you have any idea if the turn signal Could be programed to be dynamic ?
I believe an additional module is required to make them dynamic. Like a harness piggyback.
Thats some cool lights👌......i have those as stock but that indicator is not the same as yours.....do you think i can get them to work like yours?
These are actually slightly different as these are the Euro lights. USDM lights can not be made to work the same way. Thanks for the positive feedback!
Great video. Are there headlights to match the tail lights????
There are a ton of aftermarket headlights for MK6 Jettas out there.
You have a part number for that long wire you used to connect the turn signals? I need one to run from my switch to the harness
Just the wire used to connect the inner and outer tail light? It's just standard automotive gauge wiring.
Do you know if someone sales these tail lights but for the 2013 model?
Btw beautiful jetta.
Thanks for checking us out. I've seen similar setups on eBay.
Vland
Hey man, great vid! Was wondering if these held up for you! Im interested in purchasing but didn’t know how durable they were, thanks!
The car has since been sold. They worked for over a year that they were installed without issue.
Focused Garage Dope thanks for the reply, They came in the mail today actually, hyped to install. What trunk lip are u running? Looks clean
I recently installed led tail lights and didn’t coding you said it worked to get rid of the error lights. My turn signal indicator in the car still flashes fast though. Any way to solve that issue?
Hey buddy I'm trying to look for LED reflectors on the rear bumper for my 2015 Jetta.
I've never found anything for the facelift. Only pre facelift.
Great vid! Do u know how I can set a full set of those adapter harnesses. Mine didn’t come with them
I recommend trying eBay.
Yes they have them.

Great video! On my 2015 Jetta Comfortline (Canada spec), the wiring for the outer tails worked but the inner tails are causing me grief. I'll have to do some trail and error to figure it out. Any tips on figuring out what my alternate pins could be?
Nevermind, it was just loose wiring. Your wiring diagrams worked nicely. Thank you for this. Now I have to figure out the coding to get rid of the bulb out/hyperflash warning.
Glad to hear you got it mostly worked out!
Instructions to disable bulb out warning are in the video description!
Do you have a link by any chance on where you got this tail lights? I've been looking for some for my 17 jetta
They should be in the video description.
Do you know what BCM your Jetta has, is it PQ25 or PQ35, just curious so I know if I'll get bulb out error on my 2017 SEL
This is a 2015 TDI if that matters.
Can I run these instead of setting up the extended part of the turn sign on the trunk? Basically just use the smaller outward part?
Yes you can run just the single piece for the signal.
Hii!! Were did you buy the carbon fiber spoiler? Its look awesome!!! 👍🏼
Found the spoiler on eBay.
Hey what do you mean by running lights? Do they work as daytime running LED’s or only when the headlights are on?
I have the Euro switch installed. So the "running lights" are the first click on my switch. Basically lights on but no headlights. With the switch turned off, no lights are on.
Hey man, where did you get that spoiler? It looks dope
eBay. Simply search MK6 Jetta spoiler.
I have the Sequential turn signals harness. I just installed the lights. The outside turn signal works. But doesn’t run all the way across. If i do this wiring will i lose the sequence of the tail lights design? And also Braking turns the reverse light on as well.
Have you attempted to reach out to the seller?
hey man do you have a link for the tailights having trouble finding them online, also do you think this would work on the sport trim? i dont have the SE
Link is in the description. Yes these will work on the sport trim. It has the same tail lights as an SE.
I have this oem led taillights in my 15 GLI
What do I need to change the turn signal (same as brakes outside) to the inner and outside line?
New cables, or can I use vcds?
OEM US spec tail lights do not have the functioning amber section. You would require all new tail lights and recoding. The GLI has a different BCM though, so I do not know what all would be required to make this work.
I wish you show how to install the wire that connects to the turn signal
What more do you want to see of it?
Hey man that was very informing video, however I was wondering if you can help me with doing the same for an outer peace tail lights for a VW CC 2013. I want to buy an amber turn signal bulb and activate the little white portion of the rear light so it can blink without using the same red brake light bulb. Any help, wiring diagrams or other suggestions for the wiring will be appreciate it.
Unfortunately we do not have access to any information on CC wiring or coding. It may be similar, or it may be very different. I recommend checking forums or FB groups!
once the wires are pushed out do I just flip it then reconnect them in the new spot going straight across?
The video has a diagram showing the way the wires and plugs have to be oriented.
Could you show how to unhook the connections because I put mine in backwards and I've tried to get them unhooked but they won't come undone.
You need to use a wiring harness de-pinning tools in order to get them out. Search "de-pinning VW harness" and you'll get a lot of instructional videos.
Is there any way I could get new wires for the tail lights
Yes, they sell the harness adapters on eBay. Just search "Jetta MK6 LED Cables"
Do you know if these tail lights are available for the 2016 Passat? I know my car has 2 kinds of tail lights, the LEDs and the normals. I want to install the LED ones instead of the halogen ones. My only problem is that the location of the reverse light is different (one is on the fender tail light, and the other one is on the trunk tail light.
Can you help me? I am pretty sure I have to re-wire
Sorry, I do not have access to a Passat to know the wiring on those. Your best bet is most likely a Facebook group or the forum.
Nice video. What color is the reverse light?
The reverse light is LED and is a 5000k color.
Hey bro what trim is your car? I have a 17SE and would like to get the same lights
It is the SE trim as well
Hi there buddy! I was struggling in trying to look for these LED tail lights with amber leds from a China VW dealer (in China these exact tail lights are standard) so this video is music to my ears. I was wondering, do they include the side retroreflector and the red marker? cops here in North Carolina are very nuts about every mandatory bulb running ok, so that's my concern. Thanks though!
They have a reflective piece on the side, however there is technically no side facing LED or incandescent light. However the LED running light tube slightly overhangs on to the side.
Hey do you know what kind of t-tap you used & where you got it? I saw one at Autozone that looked very similar. They were 18-14 gauge quick splices. Also I see you have a red wire w/ some sort of clear female end running from the t-tap, can you tell me specifics on what those pieces are & where you got it? Thanks
It was just something from a multi piece wire connector set found at Home Depot. They sell variety sets with a bunch of different connectors. You can go whatever route you want for the splices, as long as the wire makes contact.
Probably a long shot, but I got these lights and I can't get my fogs to work, they are definetely built in, but can't get the wiring right, any ideas what cables are fogs and if not, how do I find out?
The rear fogs require additional wiring, but we never hooked it up on ours. It also needs the Euro light switch in the cabin.
Is there any way to get these on a 2015 GLI that already has OEM led tails or is the wiring different? I really like the amber turn signal and it isn’t on the US version tails.
GLI has a different body harness so the process would be different.
Hey I have a 2014 Jetta, bought some LED taillights for it and popped them in but my dash is screaming at me about taillights are out. Read somewhere about load resistors not sure if u have any insight on this?
Load resisters could help for the blinker portion, but I'm not sure about the brake light portion. Here's our video on load resistors. ua-cam.com/video/YS8tGTrjP6M/v-deo.html
My wife's 214 hybrid came with the LED lights but now the turn signal is out and I can't figure out how to fix that.
How you run the wire in to the truck lead
Oh from the inner tail light to the outer one? Very easy to remove the trunk trim and sneak it through the inner bracing.
Just installed these and my bulb out light is on, and the turn signals blink really fast. All lights work. You said you had no errors??
Mine hyperflashed on the dashboard, but a set of load resistors fixed that issue. No errors for me. Double check your harnesses.
If I dont care about the turn signal going all the way across do I have to still rewire them?
If you don't care about the turn signal running all the way across, just don't run the wire from the outside tail to the inside tail. You still need to repin the connectors though or else the lights won't work right.
How i can buy this resistors and others?
eBay or Amazon.
Sorry, I know its been 4 years and the car has been sold but do you remember if these tail lights had the option for sequential turn signals? I've seen lots of pairs that look exactly the same but they say sequential.. I just want the regular blinking ones like these but they are a bit more expensive. Just curious of maybe you had wired them to not be sequential anymore. Thanks!
These did not have the option for sequential. A separate module was available for that function.
Looking to get these for my 2016 Jetta. Where can I find a link for these?
The link to these are in the bottom of the video description.
How did you remove your trunk emblem to paint the background?
Heat and dental floss and plastic pry tools. It's not paint, it's vinyl from Klii Motorwerks.
Hey brother. Just have a question. I m trying to install the 2015 jetta xenon projector headlights to my 2014 jetta. The problem i m facing is the 2015 had 14 pin adaptor and 2014 have 10 pin. If u can help to reconnect the wiring from 10 pin to 14. I will be much appreciate.
I recommend checking the forums or FB groups. There are a few things that will need to be done.
My driver side running lights wont work. New bulbs please help
There are no replaceable bulbs in these. They are fixed LED units. Check the wiring.
Do you mind going through the steps on OBDeleven? I just have the light on dash now. Arg!
I actually just sold the car! Lol. I think I've got the steps outlined in description of video, though.
If you have bulb out warnings you need to code the following: Central Electronics: Byte 19: bit 4, bit 6, bit 7. Enable them to turn off the warning.
Hi is there any way I can get rid of the bulb out error
You shouldn't be getting a bulb out error from these tails. If you do you may be able to code it out through VagCOM or OBDEleven.
Where did you buy that trunk spoiler?what is the purchase link
Link no longer works but just go to eBay or Amazon and search "Jetta MK6 carbon fiber spoiler".
I am having so much trouble finding LED blacked out lights for my 2015 MK6 Facelift. are there any aftermaket websites that you would recommend? I have had the worst luck. I cant even find grilles! please help.
Did you message us on Instagram? If so I sent some links. Just search "mk6 Jetta LED tail light" on eBay. A few results will come up.
One of my bulbs is out how do I change it
There are no bulbs to change or service. It is all LED.
From the diagram you showed on the outer headlight harness, it shows that the 4th pin (and 5th pin from the inner light that connect) also has a load resistor that then goes to Pin 3 or suitable ground location. Is that needed? Or it just a matter of matching the wires for the inner and outer tail light and thats it? Looks great btw.
+dubbingt we didnt add that resistor. It is for the hyper flash in the cluster. Without the resistor out side still flashes normal. So it is up to you to add it or not. However we didnt.
Awesome good to know. Can you comment on the quality of the tails? Are they OEM VW or aftermarket? Any concerns with the LEDs burning out at some point in the future? I wonder if they are part of an array or individual bulbs which can allow for easy swap if they burn out.
+dubbingt I would say they are identical to OEM quality. The listing gives them real VW part numbers but mentions "emblems may be scratched off for customs purposes" but there were two spots on the inside of the lights where I could see VW emblems. This leaves me wondering if they are OEM or not. Regardless, quality is very high with these pieces and I don't foresee any issues with these. Hopefully they function well for a long time to come.
They may very well be OEM then. I've only done some brief research so I dont know how close they are to the GLI which some model years came with led tails, but these smoked red tails at least look exactly like the Jetta hybrid tails or perhaps Chinese Jetta tails.
+dubbingt the biggest difference from these vs the OEM US spec pieces is that the US spec ones share a brake/turn signal whereas these have a separate amber turn signal.
Will this work on a 2013 Jetta tdi
No. It must be a 2015+
After installation, did they leave any error codes on the dash board???
No error codes, but there was hyperflash on the dash. This was easily fixed by using load resistors.
Can you code them to be a sequential sweep?
You'd need a different harness to do that.
Are the lights as orange in person as they appear in the video?
Yes, the turn signals are entirely orange.
So I also have the 2015 Jetta tdi just like you, and in white lol. Did you buy your tail lights from ECS or the ebay link you provided. The ebay link doesnt mention if they are real oem. They look similar but can also be a chinese copy.
I bought mine used off of a Facebook group. He claimed they were originally purchased from eBay.
Hey I know this is a bit late man but how do you know what wires do what?
I do not remember the full pinout, sorry.
Where did you get your trunk spoiler from?
eBay.
Is your blinking light sequenced ?
Nope, just a simple on/off. Nothing dynamic here.
Where you get harness adapters?????
Depending on where you buy the lights, they usually come with the lights.
Why not get sequential‘s like what’s the point of getting those I would get the sequential LEDs it’s the same exact thing except the turn signal goes from left to right instead of blinking
Requires an extra harness and module as far as I know.
Do you plan on installing load resistors? Or is there another way to stop the rapid blinking in the dash?
I just ordered OBDeleven to remove light on dash.
I used load resistors in the rear to eliminate hyperflash on my dash.
Can you tell where you put the resistors ? And which kind you put please
We have another video on our channel showing the whole procedure. Search our Hyperflash video.
Where did you get your spoiler from?
Just search eBay for Jetta MK6 Carbon Fiber Spoiler.
Hi,
I am trying to wire a backup camera on my 2013 Jetta, do you know which of the 3 wires should I connect the camera wire to?
The colors may be different on your car. I recommend using a volt meter to check power readings.
@@FocusedGarage Thanks, but any idea or guess which of the 3 wires you think goes to the back up light?
It has grey and blue wires with black stripes and a solid brown wire.
When you bought these taillights were they a set or individuals and if I may how much did you pay for these? I ask these questions as I want these for my 2017 Jetta and you link to eBay expired. The other seller there has this for around $240 American. I just want to make sure what in getting is a set. Not concerned about price.
The link for these are in the video description. Expect to pay around $500 USD for a set. I purchased mine as an entire set with the adapters. Make sure whatever set you are buying is for the facelift (2015+) Jetta.
Do you think I will need the wiring adapter for my 16 GLI? Considering this to get the Amber signals...
Not sure how you'd get this to work on a GLI as the GLI comes with factory LED tails that use the brake for the turn signal. The non GLI have a different OEM wiring harness with different signal bulbs.
Focused Garage Hmmmm. It might be the same harness... plug and play... but I don’t want to spend the money if it won’t work... ☹️
Hey! Thanks for the video!
I was finally able to install these taillights even after bringing them to professionals that couldn’t do it, so thank you so much!
I do have one questions though:
1. When I installed the left side I chose not to use the load resistor and the right side I did, but I used t-taps to connect the resistors to the wiring.
The outcome was that the left side without the load resistor had the full blinker strip light up and the right side with the resistor only had the outer lamp turn on. Do you think it was because I installed the load resistor incorrectly (used t-taps instead of splicing) or do you think it may be that I didn’t add the load resistor to the left side as well? I feel that maybe the load resistor is cutting the power to the inner lamp therefore it’s not lighting up. I would rather have the entire strip light up. Thanks you!
Check the connections to make sure there are no lose wires or connection.
Did you find the issue with your setup? Thanks
hey i just picked up the same set of tail lights but i didnt get the harness to w/ the new one so i was wondering if you know where i can pick them up? thanks
Maybe check with this seller and see if they offer them separate. It's all I could find. www.ebay.com/itm/Dark-Red-LED-L-R-Taillights-Harness-Set-Fit-For-VW-Jetta-MK6-15-18-/352778058309?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
@@FocusedGarage ok thank you ! i'll give them a shout !
Definitely worth a shot!
Just curious was that spoiler a drill installation or was it some form of 3m tape instalation?
3m tape
Focused Garage thank you for the fast reply, my son wants to do this to his jetta Tsi. Keep up the good work, he loves this and the elantra sport vids!
Thank you for the support!
Is this just for the tdi or all Jettas?
This should be applicable to any 2015+ Jetta that didn't come with OEM LED rear lights.
I have a euro switch, does this wiring you show allow use of the rear fog light?
I also have the Euro switch. I didn't wire up the rear fog, but it's as simple as running it to a specific pin on the back of the switch.
Focused Garage so I just need to run a wire from the tail light to the back of the switch?
Exactly!
Why can't you just replace the halogen bulbs with l.e.d. like I did for the interior on my 2016 Jetta ?
You can, but it won't have anywhere near the same look as entire LED tail lights with the LED running pieces.
i’m so frustrated because i have wired everything correctly and connected the inner and outer lights but the inner light still does not have a turn signal
I'd recommend checking for power with a multimeter.
I had a 16' SEL and did this mod to mine. Got the bulb out error and had it cleared via VAGCOM. Looking to buy a TDI SEL this week and do this again, except I cannot remember what kind of resistors to buy or where even. Do you have a link or anything to the ones you purchased? and do you remember is you grounded them or no? Thank you!
You're in luck, made a whole video about it! Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/YS8tGTrjP6M/v-deo.html
Focused Garage sweet! Thank you! Any idea if it’s possible to have the taillights on along with the DRL lights? Like through VCDS? If I recall correctly, the running lights only come on when the headlights are turned on.
DRL is usually for headlights only, not tails.
How did you get the cluster warning lamp out with your led tail light? Did you change the configuration of the BCM?
I simply fashed the car using OBDELEVEN (Vagcom alternate) with the instructions in the video description.
do you remember wich byte is the rigth one or the final long code of the bcm?
I didn't change byte 18 or anything like that. Simply just turned off bulb out indicator warnings.
Installation video for the carbon fiber spoiler please!
Sure thing! Actually getting a new spoiler in a few weeks.
Yes please. What kind of spoiler is that? I’m looking to buy one
Just go to eBay and search "mk6 Jetta carbon fiber spoiler"
Hey man, so I got these lights in the mail today, stoked to put them in. My harness' came in just like yours did but I got 4 with the inside "blinker" wire attached. Anyway, attempting to rewire them correctly I'm struggling with the part where you push them out through the small holes. I pulled back on the tab, am I missing something else? Any tips? These babies won't budge. Thanks man
You need to buy a wiring harness pin remover tool. No paperclip or anything else small will work.
@@FocusedGarage thanks man, I ended using a combination of a pin and a dental scrapper to release them haha. Installing them later tonight now that the harasses are set. Thanks for the video and the help
No problem! Depinning that harness was a pain! Lol
what's the brand of these tail lights ?
They are not advertised as Volkswagen, but the lenses do have VW branding on the back sides. So either they are really good knockoffs, or they're actually VW.
When i reverse car my reverse lights not working how can fix them
Make sure there is power. If that doesn't work, reach out to the seller.
Hey, you showed that it has the rear fog light. I assume when its hooked up it works? Do you know how it would be wired to the Euro switch? Im not a mechanic. lol Thanks
You just run a wire directly from the rear fog to a certain open port on the Euro switch. I believe it's 8 or 16. I'd recommend Google searching that as I never bothered to hook mine up lol
Ok thank you! 🤪
No problem!
So this would fit a 2017 Jetta 1.4 SE?
Yes this will!
Where did u buy these tailights?
On a Facebook group. Original eBay links are in description.
great video man... i have a 2017 vw gli with the same tail lights but my turn signals are different from yours .. so now you got me wondering if it is just the wiring thats diffrent .. let me know what you think ... i would like to have just the outter turn light switched like yours . thanks
These are entirely different housings. They do look similar, but part numbers are different. These are from Europe where they are required to have an amber turn signal. I'm not sure if the US spec cars even have the amber LEDs in the assembly. Could always run power to the pins and see what happens lol. Thanks checking us out!
My 17 GLI with LEDs only has three pins and the brake and turn signal run on the same wire. I'm pretty sure this will make it difficult to set up amber turn signals.
Black/Red = Tail Lights
Black/White = Blinker/Brake Lights
Brown = Constant
Yea, from what I've seen these tails are wired differently
chappybmx If you have a GLI the Kit doesn't work because that u have three wire that's correct. Normal S SE SEL TDI have 4 Wires and a different Body Controll Modul. You can ask your Dealer if it's possible to Coding your BCM to Euro Spec Lights or someone that have VCP and VCDS. Then buy Euro Spec original LED Tail Lights used... they are cheaper then the China Products. It's also not possible to use GLI LED Tail Lights on a S SE SEL or TDI! Just for Info
@@chappybmx On the GLI You need to run separate wires from the CECM to the tails as well as wires from the 3rd brake light to the tails to separate out the signals. That's what I had to do to get them to work on my GLI.
HOW DO YOU PUSH OUT THE WIRES IM SO FRUSTRATED
You need a wire terminal removal kit to unlock the connectors and push the wires out.
Hi thanks for the video. I bought one from Aliexpress and it came with the harnesses but without load resistor. Had bulb out warning after installation. Does the coding works for asian model?
I'm not sure what harness the Asian market car uses so unfortunately couldn't tell you! Mine didn't come with resistors either, I added them.
@@FocusedGarage can I know the resistor value u added? Thank you. U added 2?
50w 6ohm
@@rogersoh4694 So we need 2 resistors on it?
@@FocusedGarage How many pcs we need?
Does this installation require any programming with vagcom?
If you wire in resistors for the turn signals, no programming should be necessary. If you don't want to use resistors you can use VagCOM or OBDEleven
@@FocusedGarage What value would the resistance have to have?
Did you have to use special connectors for the led to halogen ? I ordered the led rear taillights but they do not plug in to the current halogen tail light connectors
You need the tail light harness adapter to get these to work. Most sets of these lights come with the harness needed.
Focused Garage I did not receive the adapters, do you happen to have the part number
I don't. Let me see if I can find the link for you.
Wow they've definitely gone up in price. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F182754872447
