If a parent thinks their child needs porn and really horrible sex advice and drug use to feel represented in a book, they are the only homophobe in the room. I've read a book with sex when I was under age. It was vague and was 2 sentences about how the character felt. These books go into explicit detail about rape and painful sex. No child gay or straight should be taught dangerous sex positions that cause pain. To call that inclusive to gays is disgusting and implies they are only allowed to experience pain with sex.
That’s because they’ve been programmed to think being labeled as “homophobic” is worse than grooming kids. It’s about them and their virtue signaling/pandering self image and not about their kid.

I agree. In fact, it doesn't even matter whether they are at an age that they should be learning about anything sexual or queer anyway. Because teachers of school kids of any age are not there to teach those subjects to kids. It's up to the parents, and I'm sure it varies between young ages and never when different parents believe is appropriate for their kids to learn or not about queer theory/sex-related topics.

I’m sorry to say this but do whatever you can to homeschool. Cut your budget in any way if possible to make homeschool a possibility. It’s not a perfect option but schools private and public are dropping the ball big time and in some cases just flat out looking to destroy kids.

This is crazy. I still remember literally 10 years ago when Fifty Shades of Grey had just come out and was the "it book" to read, a friend of mine was reading a copy of the second book during calc class in senior year and our teacher not only confiscated her book but sent her immediately to the principal's office who then had her in detention for two days or so after calling her parents. This was in 2012 and she was 17... it wasn't okay back then and it hell isn't okay now and I don't know how parents can think it's okay to be reading such things IN SCHOOL. Super inappropriate.

Ok, I'm gay. I challenge one single person to try and convince me that removing this content from all schools K-12 is homophobic. That is laughable! There is NOTHING in this content that gay youth "need" to _______...whatever, I don't know. I can assure that, as I've known that I am gay since early childhood, never once did I need or require access to materials such as what I hear coming from these books. It's disgusting. I went to school in Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD, graduated 1998. To this day, I have no idea why we had sex ed in 4th grade when we were 9 and 10 years old. It definitely was not need-to-know information at that age and in retrospect, the only outcome from having g taken sex ed so early was that doors were opened that created unnecessary & premature curiosity.
I'm glad that Gov Abbott had all school libraries audited and the books removed. At least I hope that was followed through on. I further think that any adult that works for the school district who either suggested, provided knowledge of or placed any of these types of books onto any student's hands should be very severely reprimanded, if not arrested & fired. I'm pretty sure we once called this 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor'. There is no way this content does not qualify as child pornography. CP carries very harsh penalties.

Parents need to take command over the school boards and not allow somebody who has a doctorate in education to teach kids sex Ed when that is a parents job. Teachers are not allowed the prerogative of bringing inappropriate material into the classroom. They are to teach not to indoctrinate. True accountability begins when you find these people teaching inappropriate things to kids and you hold them accountable by voting them out of office if need be or being fired and possibly sued. I had an English teacher who was adamant on being inclusive to the LGBTQ community. So much that she would insist on her students reading LGBTQ books for book reports. Anytime a student would read a book with all-straight characters, the highest grade she'd give them was a 90%. As an avid book lover opposed to children being exposed to things they don't understand, I maintained a strong 90% throughout the semester because I refused to read LGBTQ books with too much "going on," if you know what I mean.
So this agenda-driven teacher affected your GPA. It would've been hard, I know, but she should have been called out on this. I once got a "C+" on an essay in my freshman English class. I got "A" or "A+" on ALL of the others. He had ONE red mark on the entire essay --- for an "unnecessary comma." But he wrote a big fat note at the bottom that suggested he did NOT like the political belief hinted in my essay. Every Friday, he wrote 3 possible topics, and I picked one. Just as good an essay as any other - I had an amazing high school teacher who well prepared me - but he gave me my only "C" because he was offended. When I complained about the unfairness of it, my mom told me, "welcome to college." I made sure I never again picked anything political for the rest of that class and pulled an A in the class. He often DID pick a political theme - so he was fleshing us out, and subliminally changing or silencing anyone who disagreed with him (he wasn't a full professor, but part-time adjunct). The thing is, at that time, a high school teacher would NEVER have done that, because they'd be disciplined for it. Now, it is commonplace. I'm sorry that the teacher accomplished it by bringing down your grade.
