If I may. There is a version of are you lonesome tonight in Vegas. He got tickled and laughed through most of the song. It’s glorious because his laugh actually makes your troubles float away for a bit. Best laugh I’ve ever heard.
He wasn't tickled, he laught at bald man in the audiens who stood up when Elvis sang "do you gaze at your bald head and which you had hair" instead of "do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there"...
In spite of his success he always acknowledged those who inspired him, and those that helped him along the way. When he got famous he reached back to his childhood, bringing along every poor uneducated relative he ever knew and gave them part of his success, he moved them to Graceland, gave them a jobs on the 14 acre estate, paid their bills and sent their kids to college. Paid their medical bills gave them homes and cars and a great life. I never heard of anyone being that giving, he helped his parents, his grandma, his great Aunt, uncles cousins and close friends who might be down on their luck. That is the amazing thing about Elvis, he did try to be a hero, to so many, and that is why he has never been forgotten. Thanks Mike, you are knocking the ball out of the park. I appreciate you. 😍
After the Aloha concert was finished, an exhausted Elvis phoned Charlie Hodge in his room. “Charlie?" - "Yes?" - "Isn’t it amazing what two Southern boys just did?" He did not say "look what I've done" - no, he actually said "what we've done." And despite our years of friendship, this was one of the most personal moments for me. When he said that, I felt so close to him as never before". Elvis, after all success and huge accolades throughout his 18 year career, was still just that little boy from Tupelo marvelling at impossible dreams he achieved.
It's really great how much you understand the greatest singer and performer of all time. He will never be forgotten. Can you find AND I LOVE YOU SO - it portrays his greatness in producing the emotions of the song. Keep it going.
Mike, I just love and admire your ability to comment in such a genuine and heartfelt way .... spontaneously to Elvis' amazing performances. Thank you, it is always enriching to me and makes me appreciate Elvis even more.
You need to watch the video called Prince from Another Planet....it was a documentary about the whole Elvis at MSG performances....the main footage was only recently discovered within the last 10 yrs or so and it was filmed by ago who literally had a movie camera hidden under his clothing and it is fantastic....there are lots of times the screen is blank but u can hear Elvis sing but it's the time u see Elvis which is just magnificent and he is the top of his game....That's alright mama, suspicious minds, polk salad Annie are definitely highlights...love ur reviews
Elvis has always been an innovated, avant- great artistic genius to orchestrate his own version of any great song, no one else could do improvement to his original version of his own musical talent. 🎶❤🎶
I would love for you to do a reaction to “Wearin’ that loved on look” from the 1969 album titled Elvis in Memphis. Great album. Elvis at his finest! Thank you for all you do for the Elvis community! Love your reactions!
Another spot on analysis thank you 😊 any reaction of Elvis is welcome but I agree with some other comments Are you Lonesome Tonight the laughing version it's just amazing
Thank you, Mike for another great reaction, to this beautiful song, crying again, one of my many favourite songs, vocally outstanding, an amazing man. REST IN PEACE LOVE YOU AND MISS EVERYDAY, keep up the great reactions Mike😂❤
Wonderful, wonderful performance and reaction. I suspect you could be a best-selling author if you want to write. You are so good at expressing yourself, and your insights are uncanny. One of my favorite videos is Fabrica's "Don't ( rehearsal 1970 ReSync with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra).❤❤❤
Hi Mike, If you watch his live performance of - Funny how times slips away live 1972. He talks to the audience before the song. Then during the song he explains part of his belt. Ha. He does all this in a way that you simply don't get from any artist, Absolutely none. You'd have to see it to see what I mean. Thank you.
I totally agree. Just saw a short version of that yesterday. There is a tenderness & vulnerability & love (hard to find the right words to even describe it) that I feel when I watch it. So different than the gorgeous sexy guy in black leather in '68. IMO he was able & willing to intimately share all facets of his personality with us.
As soon as I saw the cover of the album I was taken right back to the 70s - this was the first LP I ever bought and I loved him singing this song. He bares his soul when he sings and I think this is one of the reasons he is so loved to this day. A few suggestions covering many genres - Like a Baby (1960), It's Still Here (1971), Never Been to Spain (live 1972), Until it's Time For You to Go (70s), Blue Moon (early Elvis 1955?), Please Don't Stop Loving Me (from Frankie & Johnny mid 60s). As someone else said your reactions make me appreciate him even more.
Another fabulous reaction Mike! I never tire of listening to Elvis, he just makes me smile whenever I hear him. Thank you for putting your “spin” on his songs. Happy New Year! 🙂🙂🎉🎉
Elvis truly did reach the Impossible Dream. I think that so often the man that he was can get lost in the icon that he became. He was such a beautiful human being with a beautiful voice but a beautiful story. I always enjoy your view as you learn more about him. Thank you for another wonderful reaction. I hope that you and your family had a beautiful holiday and I am wishing you a great New Year. I am as always..looking forward to what you do next..TCB ⚡️
Mr Mike from the other part of Down Under the only thing I dont get is why did not the Colnel Parker have this whole performance filmed for the screen aswell as it was a recorded live album, brilliant live album from M SQ GARDEN

Great reaction to a great song (excellent choice Vicky). This song means a lot to me and my team at The Circle G Foundation…the lyrics to strive without out question or pause…etc..makes it ‘our song’
This song is from the musical "Man from La Mancha" about Don Quixote. That's why the song sounds so dramatic and builds as it does; imagine it performed on Broadway, and it makes more sense.
The moment he starts to sing I can feel the emotions fill my eyes with tears. So often when he sings I tear up and there is a heaviness in my heart that I can actually...physically feel. When you said we were "Looking at him through his prism" I realized those words were part of the reason for my reactions to so much of his music. Thank you for not only your in depth look at the technical aspects of the songs but also the core of Elvis that made up so much of his music...his heart.
Might I suggest this unheralded Elvis gem: ua-cam.com/video/-MMG43fIJ-c/v-deo.htmlsi=aaqN4YXcS_LMOfiY it broadens the case for Elvis as the greatest, especially in the 70s. 👏👏👏👏👏 Note, please: it is a stupendous studio song, against a somewhat haphazard fan-created video. A marvellous day to all.
@ Thank you for the second, jjbud3124. 😁 There are so many truly wonderful Elvis songs that people seldom hear which really show his emotional range. I’ve always loved this song. Have a lovely rest of your day. Cheers. 👍👍👍
@ Hey Carolyn. Clearly, great minds …. er, hear alike! 😁 70s Elvis was the best. Incredible diversity in songs, genres and moods. You can’t beat Mr P. Have a lovely day.
Elvis performed live at the Garden in June 1972. He did four consecutive shows which were sold out and sang to more than 80,000 people. This is a great track that gets the full Elvis treatment, it is very dramatic but it`s the tender parts of this track that I love where his voice sounds so sweet it`s haunting. As you delve into Elvis`s catalogue you will discover many nuggets in many genres and just like with Elvis you will have many fan`s who will only be too delighted to guide you on your Quest. Great reaction Mike well done. Could I suggest Hard Luck as a suggestion ua-cam.com/video/G7Q6OlKHywA/v-deo.htmlsi=qaLRV2newwqO3hQS
Being a non-American I don't know if Mike is aware of this, but the thing that makes this performance so special -- to me -- is that it's a Broadway show tune from Man of La Mancha. So here's the setup: Elvis plays New York City for the first time in 14 years or whatever it is, and after he opens the show with "That's Alright" or "Mystery Train" -- whatever it is from the Sun days -- he launches into this song from Broadway (for those who may not know, Broadways Ave. in New York City is symbolic of American theater). This song is specific to the circumstance in the same way, albeit in a much less important way, as "If I Can Dream" was specific to the circumstance of the Comeback Special. This song was purposeful. I believe I read somewhere that he used it -- instead of "Can't Help Falling in Love" -- to close some of the earliest Las Vegas performances. But after that initial engagement, I don't know that he ever sang it again outside of NYC. I could be wrong, but I don't ever recall hearing a version beyond the Madison Square Garden performances, though I wish he would have. If you were to put together a hologram concert, this song should be on the setlist in my opinion. It's great.
I'm sort of torn on this one. I get what you're saying in that Elvis sings with conviction. You believe what he's saying because it always strikes a chord with your emotions. He absolutely put everything he had, at the time, into a song. So I'm not really sure what it is, but I'm not fond of his interpretation of this song. Maybe it's because it's live, so there's no do-overs. Maybe the tempo is too fast for me. I'm not sure. But I always, always really appreciate your reaction and certainly respect you know more than I do. Who knows, if I listen to it a few more times I might come around. LOL LOL
On the original vinyl album the Colonel went behind Elvis's back and got the engineer to speed up the tapes slightly so Parker could fit a couple more songs on the vinyl and therefore get more publishing money. Elvis was apparently furious. Parker was so greedy and selfish.

Elvis is singing to his sleeping son, telling him about his strained relationship with the boys mother and his son is the only reason he is staying ua-cam.com/video/j6lYabK2Af8/v-deo.htmlsi=Jeks0dYYAfKvIegu
Take 50 minutes to sit and listen to this entire MSG live album. Play with headphones on, listen to the masterful drumming of Ronnie Tutt. In particular, the song "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is fantastic! This is my favorite of all live concerts of Elvis that I've seen and/or heard.
If I may. There is a version of are you lonesome tonight in Vegas. He got tickled and laughed through most of the song. It’s glorious because his laugh actually makes your troubles float away for a bit. Best laugh I’ve ever heard.
Agree. Must hear for any Elvis fan.
It’s the best. 😊 I laugh no matter how many times I’ve heard it.

Elvis never ceases to amaze. Once again, he takes a popular song to an entirely other level. 🤌🏼
The GOAT. Thanks for this reaction! 👏🏻👍🏻

Although he was a lyric baritone, his voice had a dramatic tenor sound. In opera, dramatic tenors are, in principle, baritones. Elvis is the best.
This was one of the Lps l played over and over as a teenegar in the 70s . C Parker made them speed this album up to fit it on the Lp
