I work at a canola crush plant that makes food grade canola crude. He is not wrong. We have a hexane unload area, we have a bleaching plant, cookers, waste water treatment( for the water used in the process) it smells like burnt cheerios here. lol
It can be cold pressed too instead of using hexane. People cooking with lower smoking point oils are probably causing more damage to their bodies than those using canola, as high temperatures produce carcinogens. Plus nearly every restaurant uses canola for almost everything. It does have healthy fats, at least, but cooking in any oil or fat isn't going to have any benefit for you. Look up "don't eat ____" and literally everything will have some snake oil salesman saying a whole lot of nothing to scare you and promote their brand. Exercise and eat a moderate and diverse diet and you'll do 10x more for your body and mind than any of these scumbags will do. It's not that difficult lol

In my local restaurant supply store vegetable oil is about 20% cheaper than canola oil. Pomace olive oil is 8 times the price of vegetable oil and "real" olive oil a lot more than that. I don't use unsaturated fats for high temperature applications. Just use lard, tallow or clarified butter. They don't break up nearly as quickly and they taste better.

Unfortunately you still consume the worst part of it as residues from those solvents evaporate into the air while heated in your kitchen and circulate in your house for days

However, studies looking at cooking with refined canola oil found the same health benefits when replacing saturated fats with this versus unrefined canola oil. The extraction, refining, and purification of oils, while it might look industrial and gross, is not actually harmful to human health. It's popular to trash US food quality but my experience is that high quality food is abundant in the US and regulations are strict, while there's plenty of over-processed food in the EU, just as much as the US. Everyone has to shop for the healthiest options wherever they live. For example if you shop at Whole Foods and buy the basic 365 brand stuff it's not too expensive and the quality is transparent.

Canola oil is the safest oil around. It even has decent amounts of Omega 3. Just don't use the same batch for hours or deep fry food in it (what restaurants usually do - that's why you should avoid eating out often), and keep it's temperature below 200°C.

It's amazing what they let in our food. Ovoo is a great oil to replace this garbage with. Also avocado oil is great for frying since the burning only happens after 500 plus degrees. Coconut oil is alot better as well.

It's not just canola (rapeseed). It's the soybean, corn, cottonseed, sunflower, safflower, ricebran, grapeseed, peanut, walnut and mutard oils.
