anyone else got nostalgic for Show Of The Week with this video? it's so good to hear you guys talk about a game again. hope to get more of them.
Well, as they say, games are back so maybe we will
RIP Show Of The Week. miss ya big man. 😔
Just seeing them in a wider shot like this is lovely. It breaks up the usual format, and watching them interact with one another without the barrier of stream delay or voice-crackling is an absolute treat.
Definite Show of the Week vibes. Andy, Jane, Green Couch, talking about games…perfect!
I will never not be nostalgic for SOTW. I loved it. I loved the sofa bit. The backstage in the kitchen bit. I particularly *loved* the bloopers. But I know it took 50% of the editing time for 5% of the views. Whether you are happy to sacrifice yourself on the altar of content production, rather than dance with who brung you, is a matter between you and your conscience. My business head understands it, my selfish head hates it (however, the long-form lets plays have increased massively and I enjoy them too so yay)
I would love more videos like this. This casual review style really plays into your strengths as a channel, and is very pleasant.
I really like this format, it’s like friends just hanging out on the couch. Like a few others said, reminds me of Show of the Week. Please do more casual videos like this!
The demo (and presumably the full game) does include a file that explains (sort of) how Ashley was kidnapped.
She was on her way back to her dorm at Uni, and both her & her 4 bodyguards went missing.
There's a brief explanation that somebody "on the inside" helped (the traitor is in the game), and since it's an inside job they only trust the one Beautiful Boy to go and save her.
I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading Krauser was one of her bodyguards, and therefore it was him who was working on the inside.
@@kupojoejoe7971 He's not named, but that is the implication. I was just attempting to avoid spoilers for those that haven't played the game.
Krauser is the sixnine69 of resident evil
Loving this OX style review! Would love to see more. Kudos guys!
Please do a playthrough of this like you did the others! I love all of Andy's Residents Evil videos
Before I even start watching I'm just gonna go off on a whim and say... yes. Without a doubt on my mind, this is buy.
Buy an OG copy for 2$
John: “I’m not capable of playing games out of order.” I’m in your camp, John! THE CHRONOLOGY MUST BE UPHELD
yeah, but... RE games don't necessarily directly connect.
@@marhawkman303 I meant more like the chronology of when they were made, like the timeline of how the franchise evolved. It's true, RE games (and many other franchises) jump around within their own established timelines. I just can't help thinking in terms of how developmental technologies and narrative choices change 🙂
@@TownWiseMan well, in the case of Final Fantasy, the second game in the series uses a different concept of character classes and levels than.... any other game in the series. Fun? yes.... but it's not Final Fantasy as we know it today O-o'
@@marhawkman303 This is very true. I’m also thinking about how Zelda II (The Adventures of Link) was very different from Zelda I, and how Castlevania II was a bit of a different format than Castlevania I or III. I think traveling along the “development” journey of a franchise is really fascinating. To see what they experimented with, what they ended up not ever doing again or doing a lot again (and what we sometimes wish they’d do again!). I think it’s my way of trying to simulate what it might have been like to play the games as they came out. Also, trying to imagine what it might be like knowing only what came before, but not after, a certain game, and think about where it sits in history. Remakes are especially interesting (and maybe challenging) for me because while one came before the other, I might only have the hardware or access at this point to play the more recent one.
@@TownWiseMan Oh yeah, I played GBA or DS re-releases of FF1-6. I didn't play the originals. 6 is particularly interesting as it's THE moment when FF started on making proper named characters. Previous entries had named heroes, but never a roster of characters with unique skillsets.
That said I LOVED the job system in FF5. oooooh yes was that fun. Beating Omega mk2 is a hell of a task.... and taking THAT team to face the "real" final boss is like shooting a fish in a barrel.
One reason I enjoy this channel is the chemistry between the hosts. Could we get more videos like this, please?
FYI, in the original Ashley was kidnapped by an ex military operative on her way home from college. He had extensive knowledge of the defenses around her, and knew how to get around them
So happy to see a "review" style video again!! Really miss hearing y'all discussing your thoughts about a game and not just showing something
We're living in good times. OX Dead Space playthrough is probably going to lead directly into the RE4 playthrough.
When it started raining and the sun went down in the village I played it in a pitch black room, and it felt like my MEMORIES of the original I got chills. Like a movie ❤ beautiful game
Love the longer form videos where y’all just get to talk about games your into
This style of videos is excellent. You guys are so thoughtful and well spoken. Please more like this.
I was worried about how much they'd change the dialogue. I absolutely love the cheesy dialogue in Re4.
So glad y'all got to get hands on the game! When it comes to RE, there's no one's opinions I value more than those of OX ❤
I can name a few more qualified. Since there are a few large channels that exclusively focus on RE
Sphere Hunter is the go to when it comes to Resident Evil without a doubt
But still highly respected the channel :)
@@Ranger.TomGunna I like Ink Ribbon :)
Great video, I love it when you make them in this format, thanks guys! Does it have difficulty settings? (The game, not the video...)
Super excited for this. I'll never forget the first time my brother and I played we walked through the whole first disk because we didn't know the button for run. Good times!
The mythical green sofa, it... lives?
Great vid, I'll add to the comments asking for more of these format of vids!
thanks for this video i've been excited to play it and i look forward to getting it when i can, it's nice to hear others who have played it give thoughts as well, if you make a series like you are with dead space i will tune in for sure
Love this video! The frank discussion style reminds me so much of Show of the Week. RE4R is an absolute must-buy of the year for me, and this review definitely confirms it.
On a random note, Jane is always wonderfully dressed. Her closet must be incredibly stylish.
I've been playing the OG Resi 4 recently and it's been a lot of fun, so I'm interested to eventually pick this version up soon
From trailers, I appreciate how Capcom look to have taken Salazar a bit more seriously this time. However, he just isn't the same without his jaunty wee hat.
More before you buys from this channel please. Love you guys
Where do you find the shotgun and that key that opens a suitcase (I think) in the demo?
HOW HAVE YOU GUYS NOT DONE MORE REVIEWS????
i was never that much of a fan of RE4 as everyone else was but it's nice to see how they have remade it and would love to see more of it appear on the channel
My memory of Resident Evil 4 is that I remember watching my older brother playing it back when it came out, which means I was like 8/9 years old. So definitely not too young at all to see zombie monster people and a guy who sawed your head off 😂
Love the mug plug, I really like my Oxventure mug myself.
Here's an idea for a future video: *Video game bosses you kinda feel bad for.*
I think they've already done a video like that.
Anyone know if they added dead zone settings?
It would be sick to have a couple of 2 player co op resis like 5 redone it’s actually pretty fun 1 needs to be redone so badly tho
Damn I'm actually disappointed they changed the merchant's lines lol "What are ya buyin?" was a classic
I can't wait to play this game when it releases. I've gotten snippets of the way they've changed Ashley's AI & I'm so happy. I can't wait to see my buddy the Merchant again & shoot the water again for a secret
Okay, “who would win; 300 cultists or on Hansy Boy” is now forever something I’m going to say for no reason at all always
With this & Jedi Survivor coming out then it may finally be time for me to invest in a current gen console.
I feel with Jon at 1:20 . So much.
13:16 Notoriously helpless lol. Ashley was great at getting behind you or ducking when you pointed a knife or gun a nearby Ganado. She's also in a lot less of the game than many seem to remember. People that hate hearing "Leon! HELP!" need to get good. Like RE4 perfected escort missions while the mechanic was in a nascent stage.
The only thing I didnt like about her in the original was she never actually struggled when something grabbed her. But that didnt happen too often for me. I liked her screaming cause it let me know when she was captured. I wanna know how they changed that, cause if she gets got I wanna know.
Have you tried multiplayer in 'Sons of the Forest'? I expect your team would have some good shenanigans with that.
Can someone tell me if the puzzles in this are easier the re2
My Date With the President's Daughter remake looks good
Oh man, forgot about that one. Wonder if there’ll be a Mom Can’t Cook episode on it at any point.
Loving this format!
My browser glitched at 0:18 and stopped playing video. And it was peak comedy x'D
I don’t see Ganados kidnapping Ashley. Jack Krauser however…
One of the RE4 newbies here. I'm SO hyped for the remake! Heard and seen so many of the memes over the years and the demo just blew me away! Even tho i never played it, I've heard the bingo meme so many times that when he said it in the demo i lost it!
I am unable to play the remade Resident Evils on my PC.
I'm debating getting the Steam deck. Does anyone know if I could reliably play the Resident Evil remakes on it?
My second favorite RE of the series (RE2 #1) no way was i not gonna buy this. love the vids and thanks for the review OX
I knew the answer, just wanted to hear fellow fanboy Andy's enthusiasm
Oh man I'm so hyped for this game. I love how any possible flaws can be made up for by the reminder that you get to have Leon, everyone's favorite zombie killing beautiful boy, for twice as long this time. Lmao
This game has been pre-downloaded to my Xbox and it's going to kill me to not be able to play it properly until next week. It looks so good.
As others are saying, I love this format of review. I miss the old Show of the Week, which was what made this channel stand out. I get that it got as many views as other content but took more work, but I do think dropping it changes **who** is watching and the general feel of the channel. I used to watch everything, but now I skip about 80% of the videos. Without Show of the Week (and the old version of Show of the Weekend in the case of Outside Xtra), this feels more like a generic game channel. Good, but generic.
They are under no obligation to make content specifically aimed at me, a random individual, and I get the need to make money. Things and times change. It's just nice to have something similar in vibe for once.
Next question. When is the full let's play series? After Dead Space or during?
I'm not the type to play these games myself, but I'm very excited for the let's play that oxbox is going to do.
Wish they'd kept Matt Mercer as Leon tho. But hey, the man has a very lucrative DND game to plan.
Can some one cam help me ?
I dont know what to buy.
Re 2 remake for 20€ or
Re 4 remake for 50€ is it really worth paying more for re 4 or I should buy re 2. And why ?
I had the PS2 version and bought the remastered PC version on Steam, of course I'm getting the remake!
I hope you can get the red dot site early in the game and it's not only available on 1 weapon.
You can buy it by doing side quests
Ive never liked red dot sights in games personally. Im former military and used a red dot sight, you dont actually see the line of the sight.
@@jaredcrabb He was referring to laser sight which is different than red dot, I’m not sure which you used.
I didn't think that the Law of Conservation of Ninjitsu applied to the good guys' side, too
Is there any cut content? Like, compared to RE3 vs. the remake, which removed the clock tower level, are there any notably absent sequences?
Re 3 OG wasnt even a masterpiece to begin. The clocktower is just a padded content.
@@jackjax7921
Fair enough, but still. You could make the same argument about bits of RE4, especially in the castle and the island, but I'd still be disappointed if things were left out.
the two big cuts I’ve seen people mention are U3 and the laser beam hallway.
Apparently the removed the shovel thing section (wasnt a forklift, not sure what that was).
Real talk, both of their outfits are great in this video lol. The colors are nice, same for the styles. Wanted to mention it.
My favorite part is Jane subtly trying to remind Andy that a large portion of the OX audience may not have been old enough to walk, when RE4 originally came out.
The President’s daughter has been kidnapped, once again you must answer the question…are you a bad enough dude to rescue her?
Unfortunately it seems the xbox aiming controls are really bad. I played the demo on the series s and the ps4 and the xbox aiming was completely wonky no matter how much I fiddled with the settings.
Before I even saw any reviews, my answer is HELL YES!
Already pre-ordered the deluxe edition and played tf out of the demo. Most anticipated game of the year for me.
This is the kind of video I prefer rather than the list ones.
Great vid, always love the OX 'sofa chats' format. Good look at the game too, and even though I've only just started the demo and not even finished it yet, I'm now very excited to get my hands on the actual game. You didn't answer arguably the most important question of all though: Can you still play as HUNK in the Mercenaries mode, and have they made any cosmetic changes to him since the Resi 2 remake that will invalidate any elements of my cosplay? 🤨
Playing the original for the first time on the ps4 and am super excited to give it a go hope it lives up to all the good I've heard about it
I've actually played Resident Evil 4 on PlayStation 2. I had to borrow Resident Evil 4 from a friend of mine but I managed to Beat It. I might track down Resident Evil 4 Remake when it gets cheaper. Until then I can enjoy Resident Evil Village
I never had a hard time in the water room even in professional mode but when I heard it was the hardest room in the game I started dying or Ashley getting killed lol weird
I think RE4R plays like your rose-tinted memories remember it played/looked instead of how it actually did.
And i am fine with that tbh. I haven’t played it yet, but i’m perfectly fine with that happening
Hunnigan: "Bald Eagle wants you to retrieve Baby Eagle."
Leon: "So, Joe Biden wants his daughter back, eh? Well it'll cost him."
H: "For F*** sake, CODENAMES!"
So now we will be chased by a giant clockwork Margaret Thatcher? This is taking horror too far.
Excellent breakdown. Love that you're sticking to the binary scale of "buy" vs "not buy".
I think when you're preaching to a general audience, not a niche one where everyone has similar tastes, you really need to be careful about that polarity.
Otherwise you wind up with IGN's Alien Isolation review, where people were calling for him to lose his job over it. He made the mistake of speaking from a place of "this is a bad game" just because he sucks at/doesn't like survival horror, rather than from a place of "people who don't like survival horror (like me) probably won't like this, but it's right in the survivor horror gamer's wheelhouse."
As one among the uninitiated who did not play the original, I am excited for the remake.
Off topic, but I love Jane's jumpsuit.
I played the first Alone in the Dark on DOS and thought to myself “self, old pal. You’re dying in the first room and having no fun. You should go to the library and get some books.” So I did, and everything was better. I’m confused why anyone thought that the survival horror formula was worth revisiting. However, I do like watching Andy being enthused about something, even if the underlying premise of that something is sh*t and I've avoided that genre for thirty years.
There’s an odd sense of accomplishment for many people who overcome the challenge a game presented to them, but many people also don’t enjoy that sort of thing. It probably has to do with being scared, resource management, and having interesting offensive mechanics.
but does it come with balistics?
In the original you got a playable ada section, is this still a thing??
Also yeah i dont care at all for the first person resi games im all about these third person ones and especially now with the remakes being so amazing
I get the feeling that a large player base feels this way and thats why the third person update for village happened
Not section, I think it was a dlc, and was an entirely separate story.
I mean, it would have been interesting to see them do a Let's Play of Re:RE4 if they had indeed disliked the game...
If "what're you buying?" Isn't in the game it's a NO GO for me lol!🤘🤣
I sympathize with John as I also need to play games in order. One of the reasons, kingdom hearts, and final fantasy have always seemed very intimidating to me.
Final Fantasy? those games DON'T have an over-arching plot! OK, exceptions exist like X-2 so some games are sequels, but as a general rule they're not.
Me too, that's why refuse to play Mario Kart 64 until I've played the preceding sixty-three games in the series.
@@gwishart 😂
So Jane wants andy and if he can't understand Jane Def. Duz
Just finished replaying resi 2 remake for the ps5 and I can’t wait for this mane. Skipped 3 and jumping straight to 4
3 is good for a few playthroughs if you can pick it up on sale! worth it for about 20 bucks or less!
@@adhirg Ye I was gonna pick it up last night since it’s only 20 bucks rn on the ps store but I haven’t yet. Prolly will before the sale ends even if I don’t play it before 4
In the new age of RE remakes, I think 3 is the weakest, but I would still try it out. Capcom just can’t do Jill justice sadly.
@@soapyillusions7 will still check it out for sure. At least when companies like capcom mess up they know what to keep and what to get rid of. The failures of 3 will present a better 4🙏🏾🙏🏾
Glad to hear the game's a successful remake! That said, Jane seemed notably less enthused than Andy and sounded a little like she might be holding back some criticisms - hopefully just because it's less her genre and/or she's spent a lot less time with it so far, and not because she didn't want to contrast with Andy's positive reaction for whatever reason.
I think Krauser kidnapped Ashley, and he is an elite soldier with the Plagas in him 😊
I can see that Leon has the ability to parry. Finally he doesn't have to take hits like a moron!
People review bombed it. Seriously its really fun. I played Elden Ring and beat it twice. Maybe that helped me dying not hurt as bad. And it’s not as hard as people are making it out too be. Lol believe me I went through emotions playing Elden Ring. Leon is a little Clunky but it’s a beautiful game. I played the first one when it first came out. Been a fan since. The interaction with elements feels human like. Like him pushing branches out of his face. I’m on chapter 4 and love it! So far 10/10
Jane's eyeshadow is on point
The VR version of this game is still my favorite
Jane, cool outfit
Wonky trader or not, I’m going elephant hunting. I’ve been sold since the chainsaw madness.
Jane got a haircut
I don’t have enough money to buy it so I just beat the old one and now I’m playing re5 😂 I wonder if they go remake 1 or 5 or if they bother with 5 or 6 at all
I’ve never played RE, but you guys are so delightful to listen to it really makes me think I want to pick the game up! Then I remember I’m a big scared baby and wouldn’t make it far.
I’ll just have to wait until the Andy’s play through :)
You gus are doing reviews now? :)
Never played the original, tried to years after it came out but the controls were so awful I only made it about 10mins in. Can’t wait to play the remake, I’ve really enjoyed the other remakes.
too late outsidexbox (if this is your real name) I have already bought the digital deluxe version for that sweet sweet red case mmmmmmmmmmmmm
At like 5:20 or so she says you can juke past "literally nothing"
She must have terrible luck or she's not very good at it, because I find that juking past enemies to be super effective 9 times out of 10
Yes!!
