My father told me about T.Rex when I was 19 and told me that if I ever got one of their cassette tapes. This was back in '95 and I would go to this place that would buy and resell cassette tapes just to see what they would have and I went in one day and was checking out what they had and there was this beautiful black cassette cover with a drawing of a golden outline of a person playing a guitar. I read the name and seen T.Rex and was like oh I remember dad telling me about these guys, huh it's only $3 what the heck. So I got it and when I walked out the first song I heard was "Mambo Sun" and that was it, I was hooked. Still my favorite song if I was forced to choose one.
In Elemental Child Mark showed his playing skills in the early days. He doesn't fall out of the tone as usual on a lot of solos, but that was simply his style. He played both solid acoustic and electric guitar. He was and remains unmistakable. It's ugly to say, but maybe he had to die young not to nod on stage at 70. like Jagger and company. He died young and the hostage has remained in our memory. He must be in a better place than here on Earth. Amen! 😎👍💯🇭🇷R.I.P. Mark and friends with you in better place.!!! T.Rex always play in my home. 51-52y. I'm 62 almost but with this music i feel like 15y boy. Don't look in mirror!Feel yourshelf! 🤔😎😇
The people that talk about Marc in a bad way need to listen to this display of a master lead with his awesome bass, and the drummer aint missing a lick.Beautifully done.
I've loved watching this so much! A Bolan fan since I was 15, and I've never seen this before. Marc. Live. No screaming girles trying to drown him out. Amazing! Also, I didn't realise until about 8:10 that I'd been holding my breath for some time!!!
One of the most underrated guitar players. He said he could out play Pete Townsend. Pete laughed and said he only said that because they were friends, but he could.
he out played PETE TOWNSEND, JEFF BECK, ERIC CLAPTON, that asshole from deep purple everyone loves so much, and easily equaled most players thought of as "great lead" players.
That asshole from Deep Purple, AKA Ritchie Blackmore, wasn't the nicest guy true. He blamed that in recent times on practicing guitar all the time as a kid instead of socializing with friends. Saw T.Rex live and Purple in '72. Both brilliant and wonderful, effortless guitar players. Probably Bolan never truly extended himself as not really required in T.Rex, but nobody could beat Blackmore when it cam to torturing a fretboard. Certainly not Towensend!
Well he did go but that was later. I can only conclude they just didn't get him. A lot of people here don't either, but once you do boy are you in for a treat. There is just so much to explore.
America and androgynous men with make up on? Not sure that was to the mass's tastes there...Led Zeppelin were less garish, I guess that helped them a lot in the US. Marc was absolutely incredible as song writer.
Marc had it all , a bright star 🌟 as Bowie declaration. Strange that such a changing sound , put him the press as all the same . He will always be a real pop star and underground star . And this live performance is legendary!!!!
I CANNOT BELIEVE sitting here that Marc; Mickey; and Steve have been Taken from us :( :( This is Absolutely Incredible Footage; and I wish to Thank You for Honouring their Memory in this Manner; with Much Love from a person who Thinks Of Marc Each and Every Day xx
Brilliant - whatever else, it was Steve Currie's superlative bass playing that allowed Bolan to flourish as a singer and guitarist. This sample is proof. Even genius' (and Bolan was) needs someone to provide the foundation. Finn is good, but it was Currie who allowed Bolan to be the rock star he wanted to be.
The result of Bolan studying Hendrix n Clapton. Amazing piece of work more so the fact that he was able to regress and make Pop Music after visiting this place. What a geezer, never to be forgot.
Saw T Rex live in May 71 (my first ever gig) and they played this. Was amazed at Bolan’s guitar playing. I had heard the recorded version but took it with a pinch of salt as I knew what could be perfected and polished in the studio. When I saw him do this in front of my eyes I was gobsmacked.
Amazing jam by three incredible musicians. Had no idea Marc Bolan was such a great guitarist. Love the live videos. Buick MacKane, Cadillac, & now this. Amazing!
Watching performances like this have made me realize what an incredibly talented and creative guitarist Marc is. Most of the videos on here are of him miming on TV shows (through no fault of his), so his guitar skills will go completely unnoticed. Upon discovering him, I thought he was a great performer with average skills, but checking out his live performances completely changed my opinion. And I've also got to add, Steve Currie is a badass on bass! Wow, he sure can hold his own with Marc!
Wow what a consumate guitarist he was! The Fantastic Mr. Feld was seen very much as a teen pinup - and cor! did he have the looks - but he was so much more. I miss him so much. Thanks for bringing this to light. Marc will always be in my heart.
Take into account the degraded audio quality and Marc's guitar solo is a great example of the importance of Feel and style over technique. Give me this any day over the carefully rehearsed note-perfect bores.
Remembering Marc today 16/9/2013... thirty six years gone by and you are still in my heart forever ♥ 16/9/1977 I will never forget that awful day as long as I live
Marc's guitar playing was total over looked, the early stuff was superb as this just goes to show. I cant help but wonder how things would be now if he was still here with us.
Marc's guitar is low in the mix at times, but still sounds great to me. Would've loved to have been able to see T.Rex in the early seventies or even just Marc fiddling on a guitar by himself.
Just amazing! I am SO impressed with Marc's understated yet perfectly complementary guitar on this piece; he never overpowers just gives what the music demands. He was such a thoughtful and insightful musician. What a great upload--made my day here in boring middle America!!
This is amazing. 'Ride a White Swan' was still high in the UK charts. His first real hit and he had not yet become a 'star'. In some ways I think Stardom must have spoiled him. He stopped taking such care of his musicianship and became more of a showman...
I use to drink with Mickey Finn (bongo player) in the Royal Albert in Crystal Palace. Had some good stories from him about Mark, yeah what he was really like!!!
I've been a Bolan fan for over 30 years and I never knew that footage like this existed. What a treat. Lets not forget either that this was 1971, about 30 years before the White Stripes were doing this kind of stuff. Great performance of T-Rex just a few weeks before superstardom. Wonder if Marc knew just how big he'd be?

Absolutely incredible in all three departments. Jimmy Page eat your heart out. Clapton can you dig this? Of all the nonsense written about Marc the biggest lie is he never changed. 6 years later he was doing Dandy in the Underworld. Amazing!
This is awesome. He probably overplayed his singles formula between 71-73 he was more one-dimensional than Bowie. Marc was my first pop hero. And then he re-surfaced bringing punk on to TV. My Room wallpapered with pics in the early days. I was a bit shocked when I bought the Ride a White Swan LP in 72 and heard his weird earlier voice. My era with his was telegram sam to Zinc Alloy. Didn't like that at the time but think its awesome now!
Steve's bass is hynotic, freaking great performance by all three!!!!!
To those who are the opinion that Marc wasn't a great guitarist, blast this on your headphones and you'll hear a great fn guitarist!
Steve Currie...what a bassist. Hard to accept all three of them are no longer with us.
Nothing like howling wolf Marc was his own unique style and flair
absolutely earthshakingly INCREDIBLE! WHY IS HE NOT ON EVER TOP 5 GUITAR PLAYERS OF ALL TIME LIST!?!?
The people that talk about Marc in a bad way need to listen to this display of a master lead with his awesome bass, and the drummer aint missing a lick.Beautifully done.
As the man said"It's cosmic rock".Best guitarist, singer, best looking, coolest, other worldly Godly genius.I can't find words good enough.I love him
I've loved watching this so much! A Bolan fan since I was 15, and I've never seen this before. Marc. Live. No screaming girles trying to drown him out. Amazing! Also, I didn't realise until about 8:10 that I'd been holding my breath for some time!!!
I had to put my headphones on so I don't miss any little nuance, this is incredible
A prophet and the greatest guitar player that ever lived?
Yes!
as young as he was he is the best guitar player ever
Just about everything I listen to these days is from the early seventies 🎸
Me too lol.
One of the most underrated guitar players. He said he could out play Pete Townsend. Pete laughed and said he only said that because they were friends, but he could.
bollocks
Marc is a much better guitarist than Pete Townsend. I have been fortunate to see both perform live.
Ha haaa, I want some of those Drugs your taking !! Bolan is/was a Shite guitarist n you know it, Bloody hell man !!!!
he out played PETE TOWNSEND, JEFF BECK, ERIC CLAPTON, that asshole from deep purple everyone loves so much, and easily equaled most players thought of as "great lead" players.

Seeing this, it amazes me he never went over in the USA. If America could have seen performances like this, he would have been huge. Fantastic.
Well he did go but that was later. I can only conclude they just didn't get him. A lot of people here don't either, but once you do boy are you in for a treat. There is just so much to explore.

JUST BRILLIANT ,,SAW THEM MANY TIMES ,AGAIN BRILLIANT ,FIRST TIME I SAW THEM IT COST ME THE GRAND TOTAL OF 50 PENCE ,,BARGIN OF THE CENTUARY BOY
Elemental Child is a very fine, and different song - and what a guitarist Marc is ! 😊 Almost one of Marc’s greatest songs! ❤ I love this music. Jon F.
Great guitar player....👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The result of Bolan studying Hendrix n Clapton. Amazing piece of work more so the fact that he was able to regress and make Pop Music after visiting this place. What a geezer, never to be forgot.
from 1965 to 1977 marc recorded 1000s of songs and this is just one gem of 100s
Always played this a lot and loud back in the 70's Awesome :-)
Saw T Rex live in May 71 (my first ever gig) and they played this. Was amazed at Bolan’s guitar playing. I had heard the recorded version but took it with a pinch of salt as I knew what could be perfected and polished in the studio. When I saw him do this in front of my eyes I was gobsmacked.

This must have been one of Marc's first gigs playing with Mickey Finn & Steve Currie!
Wow what a consumate guitarist he was! The Fantastic Mr. Feld was seen very much as a teen pinup - and cor! did he have the looks - but he was so much more. I miss him so much. Thanks for bringing this to light. Marc will always be in my heart.
Superbe !❤❤❤
If T.Rex didn't have it then you didn't need it!

Torch girl of the marshes........pure poetry
Definently sets a mood! Unbelievably good.
dourtan " Definently " haha.
Someone name one 23 year old around today who is anything, ANYTHING like this man. That's right, you can't.
Mind Blown
They sound great as Trio. Love Marc

He fires the drummer up good and the bassist too and climbs the fire tune.

took was better
Loved this on the old vinyl record 50 years ago, but think this is the first time I've ever actually seen it. Still love it!
Take into account the degraded audio quality and Marc's guitar solo is a great example of the importance of Feel and style over technique. Give me this any day over the carefully rehearsed note-perfect bores.
Absolutely right. Marc Bolan knew how to get a good sound, which is all that really matters.
Well said . . .
Bloody awesome track 🎸⚡🥁🎵🎶😎
Fabulous, indeed. Marc was amazing--still gives me school-girl-like feelings...and I'm OLD!!
Remembering Marc today 16/9/2013... thirty six years gone by and you are still in my heart forever ♥ 16/9/1977 I will never forget that awful day as long as I live
Amazing how tuned in Steve Currie is on bass. Some videos, he seemed to looked bored. Love Mickey, too. They are all in the groove, together :)
Amazing! Thank you.
@dutchbolanfan
40 days after I was born, and this music connects to my soul.
Marc's guitar playing was total over looked, the early stuff was superb as this just goes to show. I cant help but wonder how things would be now if he was still here with us.
she once taught me to think white/and the night dissappeared like a bird
I especially love the beginning - pure originality/individuality
What a gifted musician he was !
What a share!! Thanks!! Awesome stuff.
Thanks for sharing this rare piece.
love one another,,,,the sign above thier head on this album....he was a beautiful man
Exceptional talented all a pleasure to watch
Marc's guitar is low in the mix at times, but still sounds great to me. Would've loved to have been able to see T.Rex in the early seventies or even just Marc fiddling on a guitar by himself.
We I saw them, Don't believe the crap you will read. They were fabulous and very gracious.
I don't know if Marc ever fiddled by himself Ha Ha!
Just amazing! I am SO impressed with Marc's understated yet perfectly complementary guitar on this piece; he never overpowers just gives what the music demands. He was such a thoughtful and insightful musician. What a great upload--made my day here in boring middle America!!
Wow waves from bonnie scotland genuis 😊😊😊
Amazing. Pre-Bill Legend line-up.
I never heard any of his lead work until today. He was a lead guitarist initially but rarely heard any of it on record.
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing this masterpiece! Love it :)
This is magic that affected my whole life.
Great song, such a full sound for this 3 part band.
Gorgeous.
FfffffffanTASTic. Thanks for taking the time to post... and it does take some time too..
This is amazing. 'Ride a White Swan' was still high in the UK charts. His first real hit and he had not yet become a 'star'. In some ways I think Stardom must have spoiled him. He stopped taking such care of his musicianship and became more of a showman...
This never gets old.
it don't get much better than this.
I use to drink with Mickey Finn (bongo player) in the Royal Albert in Crystal Palace.
Had some good stories from him about Mark, yeah what he was really like!!!
I cried for ever when he died!
God love you
I've been a Bolan fan for over 30 years and I never knew that footage like this existed. What a treat.

Schöne alte Zeit 🎉
Amazing video. Tanx a million for posting.
To clarify, Marc Bolan is NOT a guitar god, he is a ROCK GOD! Which is soooooo much cooler :)

Making something as silly as this work = rock'n'roll. Delightful.
Absolutely incredible in all three departments. Jimmy Page eat your heart out. Clapton can you dig this?

Thanx for posting. Always liked this.
Love that Marc ahhhhh before they all start jamming out
My favorite..thanks.
Excellent archive footage, not seen this before, thanks for posting.
totally captivating
It's a shame Marc Bolan never gave his band members much credit. It was all about him. Great music.
PURE UTTER CLASS!!
This was great to see! I wish there was a lot more live early footage. Thanks for posting!!
