This recording demonstrates that Marc Bolan can certainly hold his own as a guitar player. Layered under his solo, I hear him working thru what what sounds like the beginning of the hook for "Jeepster".
Does anyone know how they recorded these tracks? I bought the vinyl recently and it says the only people playing are Marc and Steve Took, so I'm curious as to how they worked it out.
I’ve watched Steve Currie do this elsewhere on YT, and he tended to be more ambitious than this- plus he played that Fender Precision pretty much all the time. On the other hand, the stated ‘1970’ is very late for Steve Took, who by most accounts I’ve seen was gone by late ‘69. It could, with a simple overdub, have been Marc himself- he did play the occasional bass around this time. Unless the contemporaneous session notes surface, we may never know for sure...
Makes me feel young again and really old at the same time.
I saw Marc and the band shortly after this was recorded. Awesome!

Steve on bass Marc on lead and voc
Thanks! I thought it was a guitar tuned down but bass makes more sense. Great performance!
Can't make out if it's Tony or Steve on bass.
