So the list is actually Top Twelve, with the trilogy's installments either tying for first or each film is considered better than its predecessor.
Naturally, for Hobbit, they should have followed a precedent from Lucasfilm. Wait until around now to start making it, but first rerelease the LotR trilogy with new special effects.
The Middle Earth makers could then distinguish themselves by doing it again. Twenty years from now, rerelease the Hobbit with new special effects, then adapt a prequel trilogy to it out of Silmarillion.

Sadly I have to agree. There's so many reasons why it was so amazing. The source material. The casting. The music. All the artists who were involved. The source material alone one would be hard pressed to find anything near the depth and calibre of Tolkien. Maybe Frank Herbert's Dune but that's more sci-fi.

@@DerMoerpler Thanks for the recommendation, but I've actually been watching CineFix for years. It's just that fantasy and scifi are two huge genres (themes, as I'd like to call them) that I've gone into the trouble and analyze extensively, personally and professionally, so any time I watch someone else do something similar, I feel like I have to give my respects :)
On the other hand though, if I want to be picky, these lists seem like a lost opportunity, as they're not really top-10s, but top-1 recommendation for 10 different sub-themes, so it doesn't work as a countdown. I feel like they could really do much more if they were to make 10 top-10 lists instead of just 1.

I'll add the caveat that Lord of the Rings was intended by Tolkien to be one story. He wrote it all as one book, but due to the cost of paper at the time, he had to split it into three parts. So you could technically call the Lord of the Rings "Trilogy" one movie split into three parts, just like the books are actually one novel split into three parts. At least, that's how Tolkien intended it.

The fact that Pan's Labyrinth was beat out by Wizard of Oz made me concerned that LotR wouldn't be top. I love this channel for a different, often more educated view, but sometimes they just get too caught up in old vs. new.
Everything that Wizard of Oz does well, Pan's Labyrinth does better. Setting, casting, acting, depth that the fantasy goes, the effects, oh my the effects! It's both more grounded and higher fantasy at the same time. It even has the 'is it a dream?' style finish with a new twist. EVERYthing in Pan's is better, but nostalgia alone carries Oz. And I don't think it should.

Huh? You think "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is underrated? I remember it being a huge hit when it came out. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 2001, including Best Picture, and won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Art Direction, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. How much more love does it need? lol

@@dreadroberts5627 I acknowledge this and simply mean in most film circles today I’ve heard a lot of dismissal of it as unintentionally silly or lacking in depth outside of cool action, or nothing more than a watered down ‘cover version’ almost of a more classical Wuxia. Obviously nothing to do with it being a massive cultural phenomenon at the time, it is still uncommon to find on people-engaged-with-film’s favourite movie lists, or so I have reason to believe.

Pan’s Labyrinth is my favorite movie of all time. I’m a bit sad it didn’t get a main spot

@@ernestoalmada2127 it was my all time favourite for years, but currently still sits in the top 5, and it’s the kind of thing that will never leave those ranks for me, considering its impact on my life and it being a giant milestone in terms of my own perspective on cinema as a whole.

@@TheMikenanners I feel the same way. Without it I don’t think I would’ve ever been as obsessed with film as I am now. I haven’t found a film that emotionally sticks with me as much as that one. I really want something to top it because it’s a bit “mainstream” which is irrelevant when discussing the quality, but someone can’t tell you’re a cinephile if you say that’s your favorite. But when I’m beign honest with myself that’s my favorite movie and there’s zero competition.
