16:25 personally, up! is a movie that climbed my rankings as I grew older and experienced grief from someone close to me passing away as a kid and teenager, the first minutes of the movie hit the hardest - and as an adult it still makes me tear up -, but nowadays the last act of the movie hits way deeper; seeing carl finally accepting he has to let go of the past to experience the future has me sobbing, it is so masterfully done I think it would probably lend on a 12 in my personal list, that’s how much it grew on me after rewatching it recently
@@julesucodecaixinha I get why it works for so many people, and it works for those reasons for me too, but I feel like the moments that aren’t focusing on the main themes drag it down. Still a good movie and I’m glad it means so much to you and anyone else reading. 🩵
@@ironpaddington7 Klaus, yeah, but IMO Hidden World was a bigger disappointment than Toy Story 4. I still think Missing Link should have won, with Klaus at a close second
Klaus was the ONLY choice that year. HtTyD 3 was a fine enough movie and had a perfect ending, but Klaus STILL makes me cry at the end, the animation is so unique, the story is funny, heartfelt, and unique. It's a perfect movie. F the toy story franchise, it won it based SIMPLY on name only.
Princess Mononoke is also Miyazaki - so you've seen at least three of his films, but keep going, there's lots more Ghibli to enjoy. And thanks for the video.
Whatever people may say about "Frozen," it touched me, and I was pleased that such an emotional film became a phenomenon. Now I just hope that "The Boy and the Heron" inspires Disney to reawaken their emotional roots and get the execs to stop hindering their creatives.
I think having an Animated Feature category helps give a platform to films that might not otherwise get that attention - would Memoir of a Snail or Flow get such attention otherwise? I think if an animated film hits the right notes then it will get nominated for Best Picture, like Toy Story 3 and Up did.
36:17 Soul is the 4th Disney film in 20 years to have a protag of color turn into an animal. Emperor's New Groove, Brother Bear, and The Princess and the Frog all did. The horrible trend is my only real issue with Soul.
@LorenaS-r4j Exactly my take. Hoping the new Tiana series on Disney Plus will focus on her human life and explore being a businesswomen pre-The Great Depression.
I'm surprised to see Finding Nemo ranked so low and that's the harshest critique I've seen on it but I respect your opinion on it. Also unpopular opinion perhaps and I respect your opinion on Frozen but I think the award in my opinion that year should have gone to Ernest and Celestine which is by the way my personal favorite animated film which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it. I was very happy to see the praise for Ratatouille though which is still also my favorite Pixar film and I agree Fantastic Mr. Fox was snubbed
The algorithm recommended me your video and I enjoyed it dude. You are clearly fresh into your cinephile journey, so enjoy the ride. I have also made a video ranking the winners plus the nominees because I watched every film nominated, but I am not going to release it until the next ceremony has been which will be at the end of March since it’ll be out of date if I do. Inside Out 2 is not the front runner by the way it’s between The Wild Robot and Flow. The Academy doesn’t care that it made a billion dollars, they didn’t nominate the Super Mario Bros movie from last year or any of the Despicable Me films, aside from the 2nd one. George Miller also isn’t getting nominated this year or winning dude, it’s between The Brutalist, Anora and Conclave this year, with Wicked and Dune 2 probably cleaning up the technical awards. I agree with your assessment on Soul, Frozen and Elemental. I think Elemental get’s unfairly treated, I thought the film was very relatable. My rankings are very different to yours, but I love hearing other opinions so great job. Keep it up, do a video on your favourite films or something like that.
@@thedudewhomadethisvideo So glad people are giving Flow and Thr Wild Robot the representation they ABSOLUTELY deserve! Since I recorded most of this video, I’ve seen more of the Oscar discourse. And thanks so much for the kind words!!
If Brave or Toy Story 4 should have never won the Oscar on purpose, give it the Moonlight and La La Land treatment but with Klaus and Wreck It Ralph instead winning the Oscar
God I hope not, they've been on a streak these past two years, I'm sure they'll recognize the quality of either Look Back, Flow, or The Wild Robot at the very least

Heres my ranking 1. Ratatouille 2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 3. Wall-E 4. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio 5. Spirited Away 6. Inside Out 7. The Incredibles 8. Soul 9. Zootopia 10. Coco 11. Shrek 12. Toy Story 3 13. The Boy and the Heron 14. Finding Nemo 15. Up 16. Wallace and Gromit 17. Big Hero 6 18. Encanto 19. Rango 20. Frozen 21. Toy Story 4 22. Happy Feet 23. Brave
You’re definitely a zoomer, but this is a really good video! Ratatouille, The Boy and the Heron, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Toy Story 3, and Spirited Away would have to be my top five.
@ Respectfully and remember I really like the content, I think there are a lot of times you bring politics into the argument to be trendy and your recency bias is pretty strong. I don’t think anyone is really saying Foreign Films shouldn’t be winning awards - maybe that’s my optimism, but most cinephiles I know think international features are a lot better than what’s being created in the US. Sexism, xenophobia, racism can be elements of these movies and these terrible things exist but I’d caution using them as reasons someone didn’t like a movie. You can push your audience of non-sexist, non-racist, non-xenophobic people away who just want to hear about the films themselves. I hope you keep making content.
@@monkeyangelo717 I get all that. I just know lots of people who don’t watch foreign media because it’s foreign, including some people in my family. Though, I do live in the south US and a lot of that area has a fair amount of people who aren’t into filmmaking as much as I or some of my friends are.
@tomgu2285 I get that, that film is MAGICAL. And I just now saw those films for the first time for this ranking and got Spirited Away on Blu Ray for Christmas, so I’ll definitely rewatch it soon. And it might find itself higher on this list.

Happy feet being ranked higher than brave is terribly tragic
Disagree. I cheered when Brave took bottom spot
I don’t know how you’re able to implement HDR onto this video but it’s lovely to look at!!

Respect for the Rango placement
Toy Story 4 winning 2019 is an insult to me as a Toy Story fan
Same. Klaus or HTTYD 3 are better.
