I have become a staunch odyssey user because of this video. Being able to convert 45 dp into a loss of upwards of 100 dp for the enemy with just a small escort is amazing. Thank you for converting me to the odyssey, I have been enlightened
This build is REALLY good for AI too because the AI can actually use squall and auto's. I love running this with a doom compliment so for tough battles I can switch between them and never worry about things. The oddyssey can kill nearly anything in the vanilla game solo and only the most stacked, modded " high hull and armor super capitals" give it any trouble.
"Wait, i hit that?.. Alright." The highlight of the video :D Ody is a nice ship. Overall i think most vanilla ships are good as long as you understand their usage.
It's symmetrical, the front left and rear left, then the front right and rear right. None of this "forward is the direction the engines push you" nonsense! XD
Better this than the god-awful one-sided conquests! If I am not supposed to dive in the middle and shoot both broadsides at once, why make it look like a sailing warship?
The Odyssey is the AC-130 as a space ship. Fly in circle rounding up the enemy fleet like a sheepdog while raining down punishment and either alpha down anything that tries to pressure you or burn away if its one of the handful of ships that can overpower you, all of which happen to be far slower than you. Personally I rarely run it without at least 1 Tachyon Lance. The ability to one shot most frigates and finish off larger targets at long range without using limited ammo weapons is too useful imo.
so, I learned to play via the wolf, still one of my fav flagships, I never enjoyed these big heavy capitals and even most cruisers (pirate falcon/falcon was fun though) but I enjoyed the hit and run, I never got comfortable knowing when to drop shields and let armor tank... the odyssey was the capital that changed my mind, it was extremely fun to use, had such a weird loadout/setup that I had tons of fun just deciding what to use, it taught me to broadside with a capital, taught me the value of squall (my fav large missile from vanilla, god its so nice seeing them all fly towards and enemy and just eat through them, denying pd from hitting smaller but deadlier missiles) and the odyssey has wonderful "logistical" value while exploring, lovely ship, made me enjoy piloting a capital, funnily enough it and the apogee feel like big/little brother vibes for me and they are 2 of my fav bigger ships. eventually I found and enjoyed the doom as a "bigger" hit and run ship, but the odyssey is still peak despite all my modded ships I could pilot, I always get tempted to cheat and spawn in credits to buy one when I see it haha anyways, very happy to spend 25min listening to someone else talk about my fav capital, and listen to their knowledge on how to use this ship (Better then me tbh) and see what they do with it/like about it edit: oh, and ive seen in another video you love the omen, another fav of mine, I love pairing an omen with my odyssey I genuinely feel invincible against most basic threats
You know what? You've changed my mind. I'm going to pick one up the next time I see it. The Odyssey is one of those ships I never really built for various reasons, mostly my first experience with one being in the hands of an AI and losing it immediately. The build looks fun, and that SPEED on a cap. is just amazing.
I have never been sullied by the AI Odyssey, I had experiences with AI Conquests before so nope, AI is never getting a broadsider. First time I found one I just saw cruiser speeds on a capital flux pool. Put in 2x Linked Autofire Plasmas on one side, 1x Hurricane MIRV on the offside and never looked back. Since them I abandon any ship I'm piloting the second I get a Aurora, and I abandon the Aurora the second I get the Odyssey. No fleet is too high of a threat with a Paragon or Astral anchor, Aurora battle line and me and my Furies coming from the sides.
I notice in this practices that you keep your shields when the only enemy is overloaded. If you have a fast raising shield you could drop it, let the flux disipate naturaly while shooting your weapons. Great video, and very good control of the Odyssey. Thank You
only advice i have for you is to swap the maxed out capacitors for vents. vents are just flat out better the bigger your ship is. they allow you to mitigate significantly more damage over time and/or have greater sustained fire(not necessarily relevant for this loadout). only time you want big capacitors is for fast small ships, and logistics ships. The small ships dont have enough total flux to absorb/sustain firepower but can easily run away to vent. logistic ships are only in combat when you're running away, meaning they wont have time to vent when fast ships are hounding them.
The Odyssey is been my favored since 2014, when I bought Starfarer. I stop playing like 3 years ago, but the 0.96a and this video brought me back baby! Time to return to Starsector.
Pretty cool. I didn't like playing the Odyssey myself, but used it as a support capital ship quite extensively. This is on another level. I should try it.
Always end up with one as my flagship. It is just a fun and strange ship. I enjoy the plasma cannons on alternate for a constant stream, then just toggle auto-fire and group control for moving the shield when needed. In the end, I end up loading it down with [VERY REDACTED] weapons. Using the boost to hook-shot LRMs around a ship to their engines happens so much accidentally, but it looks cool and is super useful. Also, Xyphos-life! Good to see it get some love.
Love the oddessy, i'm too timid to use close range large weapons, i also haven't built my character for manual piloting so i don't get like system expertise to make the plasma jets super good. Slowly building out to it but i've got a lot of focus on the logistical perks to keep my high tech fleet from munching my supplies into oblivion. Personally my broadside is like 7 tac lasers and 2 tach lances. with Pilum and Squall and one sabot on the broadside to have some close range shield push, basically focused on ripping ships apart with EMP damage from the Tach arcs. along side smaller ships that have better mobility and anti-shield setups. Biggest issue i've had with this setup is my smaller ships flying infront of me as i'm about to unload a tach shot, which i've taken to only manually firing cause i find autofire tends to not bother firing half the time even when they have clear shots.
Great video. I have piloted this build all through the mid and late game and nothing in the core worlds stands a chance. I would love to watch more of your videos and hear your mindset and knowledge of the game
I prefer dual plasma cannons, 2 xyphos wings, hurricane MIRV, and any support missiles of choice in the medium slots (currently either gazers or sabots). With max vents, built-in flux distributor and resistant flux conduits, this demon can vent full flux to zero in *two seconds.* Oftentimes I can vent *while under fire,* take only a bit of scratch damage on armor, and still raise the shield in time to catch an incoming reaper the AI throws at me during vent. Enough speed to catch up with almost anything. Plasma cannons and missiles tear through things. Xyphos is a flux-free PD even when you're venting, and they rapidly stun whatever you're attacking. Quite possibly the most fun capital ship to use.
@@nickgrout2502 Squall is 2500 range unless you are using mods. I hear a nerf to the squalls are coming in .96 update. Based damage is 250, but it's going to be reduced to 100 according to the patch notes. But it is supposed to retain 250 base damage when hitting shields. Hurricanes are getting nerfed too. 7 instead of 9 missiles will be produced after MIRV separation.
2500 range is still more than almost any other weapon in the game, which allows it to apply consistent flux pressure. It may not be a hit-and-run weapon but it gives you a tool to soften up targets from a safe distance before you burn in.
In the new update the defensive fighter array makes the Odyssey even better by boosting the Xyphos, option for Sarissa, or even making bombers able to act as infinite ammo missiles.
When i first saw the Odyssey I decided to try it because it reminded me of a favorite ship from another game (The Bactrian from Endless sky). I quickly came to enjoy the Odyssey for it's combination of firepower and maneuverability. Glad to see other folks appreciate this oddly shaped powerhouse!
I salvaged one late game. Turned it into a pd/laser boat. Actively using it after I watched it hold an entire fleet casually while my 14th legion ships were slowly arriving/chasing fighters.
I love the odyssey because you can load it with 4 dragonfire torpedoes and destroy a huge number of enemy ships in a short time. it's a great capital for fast fights, you don't need to pilot it for it to be effective
Most of the times I get hold of one fairly early. My last game I had to raid Culann Starforge with 4 Phantoms full of Marines to get a copy of its plans.
Hoho, a fellow Odyssey enjoyer! Neat build. Though I have a much different pilotting philosophy. I build for worst case scenarios, not being more effective at stuff you should already handle just fine anyway. Btw, switch your weapon selection keys with the autofire toggles. Makes it easier to manage a large array of weapons, freeing your brain for paying attention to stuff that could blow your ship up. Autopulse ain't bad but other stuff are just better and the Odyssey kinda lacks reliable damage sources. Plasma Cannons are just too valuable to pass up. Only time I'd pick Autopulse is for anti-shield flux efficiency against Remnant fleets, in which case I'd just pick up a single Autopulse paired with HIL, and use a Locust barrage to screen sabots and Longbows. Otherwise Autopulse is just too low DPS against large fleets where you need a constant stream of high dps. And to make it even close to competitive you need to waste an s-mod slot on Extended Magazines. S-mod Stabilized Shields and Automated Repair Unit is just too valuable in difficult fights to waste on making your limited large enemy slots worth the ship its on. At that point I might as well just use Guardian PD and Burst PD with High Scatter Amplifier. No chance to miss, higher sustained, similar initial burst, better against armor and hull, and its all PD anyway so you're pretty much just immune to all fighters and missiles. Or if going with 2x Plasma, the obligatory maxed flux vents might seem like a detriment but it helps with so much. If you learn to manage your flux, shields, venting and positioning well you really don't need any additional flux caps at all.
Harpoons on this are really good, has ECCM package built into the ship. With taclasers and lances this is a very long range boi and gets fighters to do hard flux damage to shields.
Man, and i thought it was a brilliant idea when I stripped the pd off and used sparks - i didnt even consider xyphos. Up until now ive basically used 2x plasma cannons, 3x sabot pods, and a locust missile to cover the sabots as they move, but I'm definitely going to try your autopulse build and maybe actually try to get better at aiming unguided missiles. The ammo system might also help me break my bad habit of biting off more than i can chew.
Tried this out, works amazing. Could even solo a normal Conquest in simulation :D Edit: I only checked the beginning of the video when I left my comment, lol. Good god this ship is overpowered
I only use aggressive and reckless for onslaughts. They are great close up when ai uses it in my fleets. I simply disable and overload the enemy and usually somebody else s typhoon hits em
A different build i enjoyed was with 6 antimatter blasters, xyphos, hurricane mirv, plasma cannon and i forgot what i put in medium slots. That, 4 monitors and 1 hyperions was enough to beat remnants with up to 2 radiants.
Damn I could never get the odyssey to "feel" good. I tried loading with long range beams and PD and used it in a support role, but the AI would always kamikaze charge and die. Firing up my save and playing with it now I'm tempted to use it over my good old SO sunder.
I would not call it low key, that is one of it's selling points because that ship would be worthless without it. I like to use "ramming speed" a lot with it. It's fun... but it can result in a burnout.
i personally run mine with 2 plasma(i use redacted autopulse laser if i get one) with mirv, and i have an aurora kitted out with high end stuff(preferrably omega weapons) and i go around kicking the shit out of everything with this duo.
For real, the thing looks like a legit butt plug. I ain't into that shit, or swing that way, but damn, Alex stretching believability if he wasn't inspired by a plugm
it dies fast. this is good for having fun around the bubble. For those hard enconters I prefer the legion 14. 2big missile slots and the AI actually knows how to use it
My ultimate frigate is the phase with anti matter 10 shots. I just phase into enemy, turn around, dephase and one shot them with antimatter. Destroyers cruisers. Bcs take two runs. Very fun
FAKE NEWS! This guy's on Tri-Tach's payroll. There's been an entire exposé about it. Don't waste your valuable credits on this ship! It's only good for running away and maybe border patrol against vastly inferior forces. With that many piloting skills, almost any ship can take on an Onslaught without an officer. A ship like the Conquest or Pegasus would be a much better investment. One has the guns and PD to shrug off all but the biggest missile volleys, and the other... well, it makes the biggest missile volleys. These can often be purchased at the ship markets Mazalot, with low risk of pirate raids and the highest-rated customer experience in the sector!
I dont like piloting caps because they are so slow and boring, but this one is an obvious exception! Just for fun let's see you fight some stuff with the Cabal Starlight version too 😎
I can't deny that Odyssey is a GOAT ship, however asymmetrical ships make me irrationally angry and its turret layout gives me conniptions every time I try to build it.
Odyssey or bust! When I go for Vanilla Starsector or Independent/Non-faction Ships only run, Odyssey, accept no substitute. Your XIV Battlegroup can go fxck itself! Odyssey has been my flagship since Starfarer. Only gets replaced when I'm doing UAF runs, but I still buy or Salvage an Odyssey for nostalgia reasons.
Hey bro, how did you modify your game to reflect the upcoming patch? Obviously we can’t add the new stuff coming but I’d love to see how the cost changes and what not feel? Is there a file somewhere you can share, or did you have to use a mod to edit this stuff? Love your vids
How do you change targets by targeting them for the Squall autofire and also how do you shut down guns like you mention around 9:00 about the Auto pulse cannons to save up charges / reduce flux?
Hover over a target and press 'r' to target the ship. Press 'x' to enable/disable autofiring weapons. Ctrl+1, 2, 3, etc. will toggle autofire for a specific weapons group.
I always have an odyssey in my fleet, its cery very good, its a better ship than a onslaught in a fleet. I dont know, it just fits better ... I only play high tech ships with a ton of energy weapons, so its a perfect addition. With astrals, it works perfectly.
I pilot a Fury with reapers. Its the only weapon I manually control. Mostly I maneuver the ship and shield. Good times with a similar concept Does the AI pilot this thing ok?

it dies fast. this is good for having fun around the bubble.
Very fun
I would love to use it,but i never find a single blueprint for it and nobody is selling it
Okay. When I find one I'll use it.
Invictus video when? It’s kind of a banger ship
Odyssey with Tachyon lance is nice too
Odyssey go nyoom.
finaly someone acknowledge that xhyphos is good :D
I dont like piloting caps because they are so slow and boring, but this one is an obvious exception! Just for fun let's see you fight some stuff with the Cabal Starlight version too 😎
I would love starsector PVP with this
I can't deny that Odyssey is a GOAT ship, however asymmetrical ships make me irrationally angry and its turret layout gives me conniptions every time I try to build it.
10:28
Btw what do you think about storms? Most of time i just delete them
The only ship better than the Odissey is the Cabal version Odissey.
an other day waiting for a video about the new stuff
why accellerated and not expanded shields?
thaenk u pinny skinnus I wil use oddey from startsector in my campains
@@ToshinbenThank you! =)
@@Riecheck You're welcome. Those commands are always a pain to look up when I forget them.
How do you swap weapons on the ship? I couldn't figure it out...
(O w O) oddewswyyy
so... why not just plasma cannons ?
I always have an odyssey in my fleet, its cery very good, its a better ship than a onslaught in a fleet. I dont know, it just fits better ...
I only play high tech ships with a ton of energy weapons, so its a perfect addition. With astrals, it works perfectly.
i'd use the odyssay is it wasn't fugly
So. You build in those expanded Mags?
Yeah, it's pretty good.
I will NOT use the goofy capital.
I absolutly despise the Odyssey. Easily the most hated ship for me, closely followed by the Tri-Tachyon Frontal cruiser.
Im shit at starsector but i love starsector
I pilot a Fury with reapers. Its the only weapon I manually control. Mostly I maneuver the ship and shield. Good times with a similar concept
Does the AI pilot this thing ok?
Whatever you say, pinny skenis
Dont give it to ai btw it will die, use conquest instead
