    Maybe I missed it but I think it’s very important to mention that liver should be fed in small quantities. Only 2-3 times a week and .25 oz to 1oz depending of the weight of your dog.

      Exactly right, Kayla. This is more of a treat/supplement due to its fatty nature.

      Why can't you feed them liver everyday? I got my dog liver today and she loved it and I thought I solved my problem and found something I can feed her everyday? Also if not liver, what do you suggest?

    • @kaylathompson75
      @kaylathompson75 3 роки тому +4

      Because it can be toxic to them if they eat too much. It is recommended to only feed it to them 2-3 times a week at most.

    Another way to serve it is boil it. Cut in smaller pieces. Pack in batches. Freeze.
    When it’s time to feed your dog, reheat then serve. You can also mix it with boiled chicken pieces and rice.

      Yeah I made myself some boiled chicken thighs then reused the water in the cast iron pan to boil the frozen liver. No worries about over cooking it or slightly undercooking it since the dog and it's stomach won't mind. It was quick and easy without needing more dishes. The house doesn't smell bad either.

      @@BarkingGoodChef I myself transitioned to all carnivore / no carb diet recently and I actually cook the chicken liver for my Rottweiler and for me just like you did here, except I use Ghee or Butterschmalz, as we call it in German.
      I make the first half for my dog, and the second half for myself. And finally I make a yummy all carnivore sauce by seasoning with natural sea salt, white pepper, some ingwer, cardamom, curcuma, and fennel flowers. I cook until the water reduces. Then I add a good amount of fatty sour cream. Finally, I place my half of the chicken liver in the sauce and after about three minutes they are heated up enough to serve.
      Liver is very healthy, for dogs and humans alike. I also cook the liver of cows and calfs, pigs, and all kinds of poultry, for example geese or ducks. They all do taste similar because of their consistence, but they also all taste unique due to their different nutrition, which of course is even healthier and tastier from organic farms.
      BTW when my late Rottweiler, who never was a good eater, got older, he really appreciated me cooking the sauce for him too to pour it as appetizer over his kibble. For him I did not use salt and pepper, but all the other seasonings just like for me. My current Rottweiler puppy gets his liver as special treat when I place him back in his box at the dog sport club after each round of IGP exercises. So this is on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On Sundays, my dogs always get a few raw eggs from free range chicken from an organic farm, together with a little bit of liver.
      Dogs really appreciate us cooking and baking for them. They always like to watch the cooking I do, and when they finally receive some of this food, it's as if they would get some of their humans' special food. I use the same pots for my dogs' food as for mine. Why not? I wouldn't want to eat food made in pots somebody else, whom I don't know, used before, because I wouldn't know what exactly the pot of a stranger was used before for. I wouldn't want some maybe toxic residue in my food, so I wouldn't want this for my dogs. If something is not good enough for me, it's not good enough for my dogs. ❤
      My dogs and I also share the broth I cook for us, but meanwhile the vegetables only go into his feeding pot or frozen Kong. 😊

    I sauteed beef livers in EVOO with a sprinkle of garlic powder and a half dash of sea salt and he absolutely loves it. If I just boil it or cook it without his seasonings he's not as interested sort of like plain old dog food. He also loves boiled shredded chicken. He doesn't care much for vegetables. Whenever I make beef stew, I serve it on rice. He'll eat the meat and rice and lick all the gravy even off the veggies, but he'll leave the veggies behind. Yea, he's a Yorkipoo.

      @@gamingbullys1220 Garlic is one of those things that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. As long as you give it in small doses, the allicin provides more benefits to the cardiovascular system then it destroys their cell tissue. Also, garlic salt is not garlic; it largely is missing the bio active ingredient that natural garlic contains.

    • @BarkingGoodChef
      @BarkingGoodChef  2 роки тому +1

      For raw liver, I wouldn’t go more than 3-5 days in the refrigerator, and be sure to check the use-by date. Cooked liver is probably good for about 5 days sealed and refrigerated. Before serving to my dog, I heat to lukewarm. Thanks for watching and all my best to you and your pack!

      Well, i wish i could read your dog's mind, lol. But i wouldn't stress. Dogs have differing tastes, too, and maybe yours just isn't in to liver. It sounds like you cooked it correctly; liver has that clay-like texture when cooked. One thought when introducing any new food to dogs is to do so in a small amount. Maybe break off a little piece of the liver and put in his regular food. Thanks for watching and for being such an awesome dog parent!

    When you hate cooking liver that much, why bother doing it. Buy dog treats already made with it.
    Well done chicken liver 🤢🤮 I don't know if that says something about meat quality in the US, but in Canada we eat this a little pink and stop the cooking as soon as it's not raw anymore but before it gets dry otherwise it tastes like poop. I would never eat liver that was overcooked like that, so my dog wouldn't either.
    I also often cook this in the oven, in aluminum foil, with a bit of oil and rosemary (when it's for me because apparently rosemary is not good for dogs).

      For liver here in the US, the USDA advises a minimum cooking temp of 165 F, so i follow those guidelines. Cheers! (Link to source: www.fsis.usda.gov/sites/default/files/import/Chicken-Liver-Guidance-July-2018.pdf )
