Units moonwalking is probably the most legendary bug of all time in this game
That should stay in the game forever as a memory of Michael Jackson
This is a feature not a bug lol.
the funny thing is with that bug the unit avoid archer shots with balistics because the game "thinks" that the unit are going to where the unit is facing, lol
Cav or ships moonwalking through trees/flying over land to randomly appear in the enemies base with nearly infinite range and just start slapping a villager is always a good laugh
malay getting their age up time increased by 80% instead of reduced is a top one for me
dogshit2 just great gayme
Lithuanians being able to drop relic from monastery and put it back infinite times to get infinite bonus damage on cavalry was a nasty one
Wanted to mention this one
@@SvensWorkshop huh ? guys theyre limited on +4 bonus tho ?
@@arn0000 so? Walls aren't meant to be traversed through too, but that does not mean it isn't possible... with DE anything is possible.
@@arn0000 Usually, yes. However, when this bug was around, you were able to buff your Knights and Leitis into infinity.
This bug had to be the best I once had a single paladin with +100 attack in a TG. One shotting everything.
1)In Arena, We could delete opponents walls in one patch.
2)In Arena, with tower in the corner of the walls, you can get in.
That second one predates DE.
I think 2 should still be there
2 should definitely be a feature.
You forgot the worst bug in Arena. If you start a game with Arena selected as the map then you have to play Arena.
monaspa bug was crazy as well, I can still remember Viper eating Villeses TCs on nomad in warlords II 11
Yeah I really thought he would mention this one!
Deleting mangonels to increase their damage was also a bug that was really close to be transformed into a feature
also targeting mangonel shots on farms to increase range
I remember Viper having a lot of fun with having monks drop their relics onto their own tiles to become immune to melee attacks.
I remember Burgundians gunpowder units in one patch had +125 attack instead of a x1.25 multiplier, so you ended up one shooting pretty much anything with 1 or two burgundian hand cannoneers. 11
if you look at walls, there has always been a small gap in the corner, wide enough for a spear or a sword to pass through but not a unit. So it kinda make sense that unit can attack through that corner but not pass
Corner can build, repair and fishing ships can even drop off food at the corner fish traps so it make sense to get connected when both units are at the corner of the tile
aoe2de's code basically being an empire built on top of another empire on top of another empire is pretty accurate with the game's theme
Back in the day you could build palisade foundation in unkown areas of the map and prevent others from building there
hohoh, I actually did that lmao
and u were able to scan units in the dark as well, cause u werent able to build, if some units were there :D
isn't this purely an aoe1 thing? I couldn't remember such a thing in aoc, not even in the ancient 1.0c patch. you could abuse it to scan buildings.
@@user-kf7qg3hz2v Nope, I've seen it in T90 videos, I'm pretty sure. I believe it was used in a Fatslob game in Black Forest, played on HD Edition.
In AOE1 days, we called that "painting" and was about as low as you could get to use it. The other obnoxious thing was the moment you laid a foundation ANYWHERE, even if it had not started construction, it was visible to the enemy, had like 1 HP, and could be instantly killed for a total loss of resources.
DELETING YOUR OPPONENTS WALLS was just nutty and demoralizing in Arena 11
The “supplies cash back bug”, somehow you could glitch buying militia and then cancelling them and getting back more res than you spent. Got 3 barrack full militia spammed in dark age.
I feel like there have been at least 5 more of these insane bugs that you didn’t mention. This and the fact that pathfinding is still broken is what made me quit this game a few months back after having played it… well pretty much since release.
The shepherd teleportation bug that Viper showcased was hilarious!
T90 made a video during the time when garrinsoning was impossible. He organized a regicide game.
You definitely missed the most game impacting glitch there ever was. I don't remember 100% but as soon as you would add a certain character to your username or type that in chat or something, your opponent's game would crash giving you a free win in like 2 seconds
If your name contained %n the game coudlnt properly display the attack notification therefore crashing the game
Wow, didn't know about this one 11
Idea for the next time: i think this was such an entertaining topic and if there are so many bugs and glitches pls make a top 10 video next time. Or do a second Part. Would love it!
-Towers in old arena placed in the cornor and then can ungarrison into the enemy’s base
-players could build buildings near there opponent and see there units
-if you build walls around your tower your villagers could be un garrison and stuck in the 1x1 tower and repair it without being hit
I remember when the caravanserail speed bonus used to stack up and apply to every units 11
Teleporting relics to your monastery by making a monk stuck and right-clicking a relic was another fun one.
It's the same thing as long-distance repairs: task a vil to repair a ship that's several tiles away and if neither move, the vil starts repairing from a long distance anyway.
I think the corner wall "bug" thing has been around since AOE1, it just results from the hitbox calculations on how walls are designed or something.
I definitely remember making bases in AOE1 and having my towers hit by centurions if the wall didn't totally surround every single cell of the tower - if there is an exposed cell then an enemy can hit through it.
My favourite AOE bug though not AOE2, has been the Age of Mythology Poseidion Lure infite res glitch - Lure was a God power that placed a Lure on the map that lured in animals for you to hunt - you could place anywhere on the map with vision; but it was coded as a building with a cost of 0 resources, so if you had to repair it then the resource counter would overflow and you'd end up with billions of resources.
But how to get it damaged? Just walk a vil to the enemy TC, in AOM TC's fire arrows even without being garrisonned - place your Lure, it would auto get fired at, get your vil to repair it - one hammer strike was enough - then you'd have 99999999 of every resource. And this took MONTHS to get fixes so Posiedon players got insta banned, sucked if random got one though.
My favorite glitch is not fixed just part of the game now: the Tower hop over the corner.
Fixed by Arena not having their gates on the corner anymore.
Coustillier had they charge bonus applied an additional time vs all Archers. it was only CA where it mattered, bc foot archers got 1 hit anyway.
Somebody else said it already but at the release of lithuanians we had another kind of infinite relic bug. Also at some time you could build place foundations over your oponent walls, delete the foundation and get the wall deleted
good video idea tbh, surprisedi aint seen one of the sort from any other ytber
Honestly hearing about the monk and treb bug influencing actual tournament games is an interesting conundrum. In LoL champs are either banned from professional play if they have game breaking bugs, or they acknowledge the bug and then you can't pause or remake if it happens. But banning general units changes the game wildly in a RTS, some civs would lose massive parts of their bonuses with general unit bans, and just not making monks if you don't have camels or such for countering cav isn't an option if you leave them unbanned. For a bugged UU it could be done by banning the civ, but bugged monks and trebs sound like a competitive nightmare.
The infinite attack for lithuanians cav at launch was a nice one. If you ejected a relic, the bonus didn't go away, so you could just pop 1 relic in and out of the monastery for 10 mins and have 1000 attack knights.
Favorite one is moonwalking but sometimes it happened (or still happens idk) that when you convert an onager after a bit it turned into a mangonel.
Worst one for me now if it can be considered bug is villager pathfinding, they get stuck all the time when collecting any resource or it has happened to me many times that when sending them a bit far they randomly stop or if they're sent to collect wood for example they will start chopping a random tree in the way and you just notice them halfway doing long distance lumbering
#4 has been happening for transport ships and cannon galleons for the past 4 months. Not sure the cause, but when these ships get clumped together they get broken. You can move them but when you let go of them they go back to the spot where they initially got broken
If you select a bunch of villagers order them to collect or build something a bit far away from where they are, some villagers will stop on the way for no reason.
monk relic glitch :
have a monk with a relic, task em to the monastery and while he goes over, click the ´drop relic´ button. you now have 2 relics asas the monk touches the monastery
I remember once I played MP against someone in the 2000s, they put towers in the corner of Arena and unloaded units into my base that way. That was definitely another era.
Enjoyed it!
-Palisade scanning to be able to see where the enemy units are
-Placing farms on undiscovered parts of the map to scout where the resources aren't
-Placing palisades on enemy straggler trees to lame
I would have included the Lithuanian +100 attack relic glitch, where ungarrisoning relics didn't remove the +1, but putting it back added another +1, and it wasn't capped at +4. I remember my block of pikes getting massacred by a small number of knights, clicking on the knights and being confused how they had over +100 damage. Felt like a 256x mod game.
I like the units hitting through corners of walls. It's only at corners and it even makes sense for palisades; you can literally see there's a gap.
It's just a hitbox thing and patching it out would probably mean changing the wall's hitbox so no units could get near it enough.
that hitting through corners bug (in the honorary mention section), didn't this happen since forever? as in AoK/TC?
Playing custom game with 400+ pops with my friends and this game has lots of bugs, desyncs which is annoying. In fact I have to use the mod that disable market/trade unit collision to fix a bug that trade unit can't take gold from any market at all. There're also common issues like pathing, which make fish boom more annoying than it should be.
Idk if it counts as a bug, but Steppe Lancer micro was crazy when they came out, since you could group all of them in one tile, kind of like air units in starcraft
I have always known you can hit in diagonal through the walls. I think it is a feature not a bug since you are also allowed to build and collect resources in diagonal.
I was waiting for the lithuanian relic one!
The stuck one was definitely the most annoying one for me
#4: It's not just monks and trebs. There were random military units not moving, over a period of time before getting patched.
the units getting hit through corners i thought it was a staple since aoe1 i remember the same thing happening when wall pieces are lined up like that
My favorite glitch was units basically quarter moonwalking over water. Hard to describe it but units basically glitched move over water lol.
small correction, the DLC civilization that came out with the Burgundians was the Sicilians, not the Bohemians
Hera showing his French-Canadian roots with that Coustillier pronunciation 👌
lituanians infinite cav attack, gates deleting enemy walls, unkillable sicilians, and %n crash bug are major bugs you didint mention
hera missed out on my favorite one, but i think it's been discussed to death already by everyone including T-West -> Mangonel delete. I love the reactions of AOE casters when the pros were abusing it, in particular Memb who really hated the bug.
I can't wait for half of these to be 'Basic Parts of AoE III', because the bugs there never get fixed.
Apparently D.E. - is the reason why shift-queue has been bugged for 4 years.
- is the reason why units don't attack-move across the map (each individual unit has to have vision of an enemy to actually attack if given an attack-move).
I’m sure someone has already said it, but the teleport glitch has been pretty funny too
8:20 damn, that scout actually has bracer
Georgian cavalry were more OP than intended at release of the DLC. They were soooo OP that it was a bug at this level…
While I do think that you should be able to attack towers and garrison into towers that are walled in with 4 walls, I think you shouldn't be able to attack through a straight wall. This has been a problem in several V&V scenarios, where you have stone walls and your opponent just destroys your towers (which you sometimes need for unit creation and can't rebuild) through your walls in a fully walled base.
Can You do a guid for fast feudal, castel and imp age?
Coustillier was against all archer units. It was only noticeable against CA because regular xbows and arbs would be 1 tapped by them anyways, whereas CA were supposed to be able to take more than 1 hit
The best bug/glitch of all time is when the steppe lancers were released they could kill anything when stacked
Corner wall attacking is a feature! You cam move to the center and be fine so it's not that bad. Unless you're vs steppes, in which case you're screwed
Except melee units seem to gain half a tile of range once they begin attacking.
0:30
Burgundians and Sicilians*
Tower jumping was another great one in arena
can you still gather wood for the food bug?
Units still get stuck from time to time, I've experienced it a few time with knights
About honorable mention - I remember this one exists in HD and even in CD version of the game. So I'll say this must be a feature for 25 years.
broodwar has a stuck unit bug too it happens when you tell a ranged unit to attack something exactly outside of their range. you fix it by giving them a stop command
workers going through minerals was also a bug.
broodwar is a chaotic mess of "features"
@@ahuzel it’s a beautiful game
@@dylanfalk3243 i respect those who play it. I just cant even launch the main menu knowing how hard the game oposses to be played. Imho i wasted the money buying the remaster.
@@ahuzel I much prefer brood war to SC2, but then I grew up with Starcraft 1 and didn't really like SC2. SC2 involved building up a no skill deathball, SC1 was more skill with individual units. I loved the remaster and completed the campaign in it. But I can see why players used to newer RTS might hate it. Like you can only select 12 units at a time, even I think that is BS, Zerg are based on masses of units and you can only move 12 at any one time, it's just annoying. And the pathfinding is terrible you command your Reavers to attack an enemy sunken colony and your reavers have more range, but they insist on waddling right up close to the sunken colonly and getting killed.
So you really have to micro your units and be ready for anything.
But the game just has so much more charm than SC2 and plays so much better IMO. And I loved how faithful the remaster was though in fairness I wish there was an option to select more than 12 at a time - it makes playing Zerg such a pain - at least DE increased the selection from 40 to 60
I don't remember if it was on de or before but house attacking unit is the funniest to me
The villagers shooting the tree with an arrow is crazy lol
The glitch that let people use the x256 times cheatcode in ranked games has to be number 1
number 2 is still in the game :/
what do you mean it got patched?
i tested it yesterday and i have the current version of the game (steam)
Lithuanian relic bonus bug was mt favourite to abuse, had palidan with +160 attack at one game from garrisoning and ungarrisoning relics
Tbh I had of fun with the Lithuanians and relic bug infinite attack 😅 People were mad at it. Lithuanians got a super high win rate and became the most used civ in 24 hours. You could destroy a castle with 1 paladin 😂😂😂
Clicking techs twice adding them twice to the queue, but only giving 1x effect but taking 2x res was really annoying
Enemy units teleporting when the vills they'd been chasing have been garrisoned in a TC.
Teleportation, did not effect much and couldn’t be manipulated but that was a crazy glitch.
Transport ships get stuck in the new patch. You have to click away one at a time after loading or offloading.
I'd say hitting units threw the corner is a feature.
I hit my opponent threw the crack in the wall XD
Hera, THE TRANSPORT SHIP BUG! You could not load or unload groups of units. you had to do so ONE BY ONE... that was awful 8:52
other than that, pathfinding is obviously its own bug which would require an entire convention to go through ahaha. i remember the constant reforming of grouped units every move. try to attack and, wait, wait, they went back into formation first... even when i select one unit it is not attacking but going the other way...?? thank god they fixed.... wait.... this is an inconsistent issue that really came about badly when Mountain Royals was released
Not being able to move a treb is still a thing - it happened to me yesterday
I actually stopped playing AoE2 because of the units moving through walls (or actually I think it was any kind of buildings) bug. I was super tryharding ladder at that time (I think like 3-4 years ago or so?) and then the Patch which introduced this bug came out, I lost like 5 games bc of it, went super tilted, didnt play in a week, came back and first thing I see was units casually walking through my walls and I was like: fuck that shit and never really played AoE since. But still enjoy the content, thanks for the bad memories lol
New video: most broken niche metas. Like Incans blacksmith rush
The walls thing is definitely a feature. Or anything with range wouldn't really make sense. If anything I would really call the reverse behavior a bug. Scout has 1 range but won't attack through gap in the wall within said range. If the villager was really completely walled in with 8 tiles all around then it should no longer be possible to hit.
i think the attacking through wall one is a feature, i recently was playing and it has stayed
The hitting from the corner gives people a chance against Viper. It was probably done on purpose to nerf him
the no options for actions bug is an absolute nightmare, and is pretty recent
tc one?
I wouldnt say hitting through a wall in a corner is a bug. Every unit has a certain range of attack, even if melee, otherwise they could only hit something they are standing directly on top of. Combine this with the fact that walls don't really stop attacks, all they do is stop a unit from pathing in the exact square they occupy; and hitting through diagonal walls becomes natural. Honestly the real issue is the map is a tilling of squares instead of hexagons which are, as everyone knows, the bestagons.
Forgot to add, if this wasn't possible then quickwalling wouldn't be possible either, since it relies on being able to place a wall during an attack basically.
Villagers eating trees?
11 11 11 11 11
Yes, that is crazy.
And surely no fun when you are up to the Mongols.
HERA, Is this real? Please explain.
@@BlueTube6575 Dude, just watch the video. For real......
- Lithuanian Relic Bug
- Being able to delete enemy buildings by placing a foundation through the fog of war
Now top 5 "it's not a bug, it's a feature" video. No. 1 spot would be no daut Moonwalking.
If units can no longer attack through the corner of walls, then villagers shouldn't be able to build, repair, or gather res through them either. I would be fine with that, especially since the behaviour is pretty inconsistent right now. But I'm also fine with it staying.
#4 has not been patched? I encountered this multiple times in campaigns just yesterday
Hera is literally the GOAT of aoe2
Villagers waling in L shaped path is the biggest bug still exists.
Playing on Xbox with mouse and keyboard right now is basically one big bug. I play the odd game to get my fix but my god is it frustrating to play.
need video clips for bug #3 please
7:55 Don't see why it's a glitch. There's a visible hole between 2 diagonally placed pallisades (i know, don't take everything literally, but i stand my ground).
Best bug is clearly moonwalking units. Stylish!
my trebs got stuck yesterday
Maybe there’s like squirrels and nuts in those trees lol
Hera is my hero
Transportship bug was the worst one for campaigns, some levels just simply bacame unplayable
I loved when the horse killed tatohs vill
Teleportation & moon walking!! Lol
