    Am I the only one realizing the orbital rotation + equal pressure at every single angle being needed for this to be an accurate crown around the full diameter of the barrel? 🤔

      If you think about it, you are right.
      But it works. First time i saw it being done i was sceptical, but it actually worked. I machine the crown on the katje and after that i use this. Knocks of the micro burr the League leaves. Works like a threath if your muzzle end is square.

    Excellent video man! I’ve heard about this but it’s the 1st time I’ve seen it done. You are full of good air rifle info.
    20 minute video packed full of great info. No wasted time!
    Great job man!
    If I didn’t like to work on my own air rifle projects , I’d definitely sub the work out to you.
    You definitely understand the detail and fine points🫡

    Why not a countersink bit and some valve grinding paste.

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  20 днів тому

      a countersink is to harsh and can leave cuts also hard to control on top of that even with a lathe you need a smooth surface not sharp edges i use to have a machine shop and i used many things on the lathe that some worked really great others like your countersink bit even did not work always left a cut edge and sharp insides and you dont want that to happen you also dont want to deep either it really requires very little work but it has to be perfect as possible for the best results even sense i adopted this to use its worked perfect every time with even just a simple hand drill ..

    No lapping paist, there are other household mild abrasives that will work, tooth paste , Dutch cleanser or comet cleanser with a little water to make it a paste.

      @@KevinMillard68 Agreed.. good video! I should have said "if needed or wanted" I have performed this numourios times because it's conveiant and fast, I have a lathe, but that's a half day effort with disasembly and set up, set, I use valve lapping paist due to time savings, typically crown a bbl in under 5 min, have tried comet and Dutch cleanser also just out of curiosity and if works well. Cheers.

    So I have a AK74 without any crown at all, is it really necessary to lap the end of the barrel square before lapping in the crown? It's from the factory and looks fine, I just don't see it being completely necessary... I really don't think .001 variation is going to make a big difference, all I'm trying to do is allow the gas an escape from behind the bullet.. I'm not building a Swiss time piece... Right? Curious what your opinion is as a machinist. I'm an apprentice machinist so I do have some metal working experience, but nothing compared to a seasoned vet like yourself.

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  3 роки тому +3

      in short the better the crown will help with accuracy if your crown is off then it makes it vey hard to site in a gun, i have worked on hundreds of guns and recrowned more then i care to remember but the difference is night and day if you do the job right for me top accuracy of the gun is everything then again you also have to know how to shoot each gun you use as well but with out a good crown youll have alot of problems

    • @joshrandall3632
      @joshrandall3632 Рік тому +3

      All guns have a crown. It's the corner of the muzzle and the bore. If it is clean and consistent all the way around it shouldn't matter if it's tapered at 11°, 45°, 90° or rounded.
      Facing (squaring)the muzzle is probably not necessary for a factory muzzle but if you cut down a barrel, it's a good idea.
