  • Cheap Coolers Review: www.coolersonsale.com/cheap-co...
    The performance set forth by the budget coolers (almost all under $100) was truly amazing. One cooler even advertised 9 days of ice retention which seemed extremely far fetched. Come to find out, several coolers were able to live up to their advertised ice retention times. Several of the coolers below also outlasted roto molded coolers of a comparable size. For the money, these are some of the best coolers you can buy.
    Below are the coolers ranked in order. For full review and time: (coming soon)

      I mean, yeah, 'good job editing' but did we really need 7 minutes of watching him put 2 bottles in like 11 coolers? No, not really. One would have done. We want results, a verdict, some progression, not more than half the time has elapsed and he's STILL chucking 2 bottles of water in coolers ffs.

    Holy Cow man! The most exacting and extensive cooler review ever. Good to see the scientific method is still alive somewhere in this world. Thank you for the tremendous effort! Though one caveat has to be remembered. The coolers that lasted the longest, started with almost twice as much as ice as the smaller ones. And when it comes down to it, as a single guy, 28 quarts is enough.

    Appreciate your extensive testing, hard work, and videos. Much appreciated! My family and I take an annual 10 day summer very remote wilderness canoe trip in the BWCA, with multiple .25 - .5 mile portages per day. Low weight, solid ice retention, quality build is essential. Can you do a video of the best all type 20-30qt portable coolers? 40 qt rotomolded will be too heavy for portages. Others may not give us the ice retention for 8 days. One old boating trick? Add 2 folded paper bags to the inside bottom & top of coolers before closing. Ice will last a full extra day.

    I have an old orange colored Gott cooler with a white lid, not sure the size of it maybe 40-50qt not big but not small. I had four coolers in my cargo van with ice and frozen food in them in 90+ degrees for weeks and that Gott cooler worked the best of all. I’d have to add ice to the others every day or two but that Gott could go 2 days before I’d have to add ice at all and not nearly as much.
    Also I freeze bottled water (16.9oz bottles) and just put them upright if possible in coolers or put 2 or 3 in a freezer ziplock bag laying down and they work great! Lasts longer than ice cubes and can use them for drinking and if they have ice still in them about 1/3 to 1/2 way I’ll even pour a soda into the water bottle after drinking the water or put the water in another bottle that’s empty or has cold water in it. When going to the desert and it’s a two to 3 hour drive for more ice or supplies over a bad washboard road it’s more economical to just have one or two coolers 60-70 qt coolers full of frozen bottles of water. Another way to make the ice last longer is cover coolers with heavy cotton blankets draping down all the sides and a light colored tarp over it to reflect sunlight and if possible keep them in shade and wet the blankets down so they are soaked with water if you are near a creek, river or a lake use that water if it’s cold. Helps keep the coolers from getting hot and so everything stays cold way longer.
    I’ve camped in mountains and deserts in temps over 100 and no way to easily get ice and water bottles are easy to freeze so I hope these tips help people out.

    • @christopherrowley7506
      @christopherrowley7506 2 роки тому +2

      That's exactly right. It's actually the same reason that megafauna existed during the ice age. It seems a paradox that in such an austere cold climate that huge animals could exist, but the thermal efficiency won out over lack of resources. While not as large as a mammoth, the muskox native to eastern Greenland is a living example. Better volume to surface area means more insulative.

    drill a hole into your hollow lid cooler & fill with spray foam. insulates better & will help keep the lid from crushing when you sit on it.

    Whar about the bear rating on some of the coolers? Not a test on it but what does that rating mean? Is your food safe for the rating? Does the rating mean you can use the cooler as a bear box in areas requiring them?

    • @CoolersOnSale
      @CoolersOnSale  5 років тому +1

      That means they are Bear Resistant according to IGBC. However, keep in mind, this means using a lock on the cooler (usually in the corner) We have a full article of that here: www.coolersonsale.com/best-cooler-for-camping/

    I'm a truck driver and I've been looking for a cooler to put in my truck to keep sandwich meat and everything's cool but not be too big and be able to drain them out and keep ice at decent levels what would you suggest that would be feasible it's most likely be strapped to my front seat on the passenger side

    • @CoolersOnSale

      Have you considered a 12V Thermoelectric? Something like this: amzn.to/2VocPZE I feel like this is what most truckers use and roughly the same cost as a small cooler.

Hmmm...meat in my yeti stayed frozen / melting in coleman. I wonder if u have any inside temperature readings with your tests available. I don't really get the point of aiming thermometer at ice cold water.

    Thanks for the video. I’m intrigued by the lifetime 28q.
    I have a 55 or so quart Magellan that I got at academy sports and I’m very happy with it. Holds ice for several days even under terrible conditions. But the thing is a beast to lug around so I bought a small Magellan (about 28q) for a road trip to keep in the car for drinks. I was very disappointed with it. With AC constantly on, and being relatively cool outside (never got above 80) I couldn’t keep ice for over a day.
    I’d love to see a video focusing on performance of different sizes of same brand, or more importantly how they hold ice under more realistic use. Almost all these ice test videos show coolers being opened once or twice a day. If your actually using the cooler, opening it 20x a day is much more accurate.

      I have the 50qt magellan cooler as well. It's a fucking pain in the ass to carry around. It holds ice very well, but the drain plug broke, so the cooler is useless until I get another drain plug. It takes up a little too much space inside of my semi truck, so I have that bitch strapped down on my flatbed trailer lol. I bought the lifetime 28qt cooler for 78$ today. It's the perfect size for me. It doesn't have the drain plug, but screw it. You don't need it for something so small
