Budget Cooler Durability Test - How Much Weight Can The Lid Hold?

  • After reviewing many budget coolers, like these: www.coolersonsa... one of the top questions that kept popping up was in relation to the durability of the cooler. When we tested our first budget cooler (Lifetime 55) the only complaint we had was that the lid bowed in when sitting on the cooler. This led to even more questions after we tested a new round of cheaper coolers.
    In this test we wanted to sit and stand on the lids of these coolers to see how the cooler would hold up. To be fair, many of these coolers are not intended to be used as seats, but we know the reality is many people may do just that. Additionally, many of the roto molded coolers we have tests can and are used as seats, casting platforms or poling platforms. Therefore, we wanted to be able to make the comparison between the durability of a cheap cooler vs a roto molded cooler.

    I bought a Lifetime 28 and 77 this past week based on your reviews. I noticed when looking at them that walmart put security locks on the lids of some of them. The ones with no lock seemed to seal very well and had a very slight suction. I bought the ones with security locks because if figured they were from a newer shipment. When i got home I discovered that those suckers have a very good suction when sealed. Much more than the others in the store. Really digging my 28 so far and hopefully i will be filling my 77 with fish soon.

    I would love to see a 25 Quart comparison with the bmx 25 and the kong 25 included. Best 25 Quart regardless of the price and check them for leaks. Lots of us ride the 25's around in our work vehicles. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks for the vid, recently came across your channel while doin some research on coolers before purchasing. Any experience with Pelican’s soft cooler? They look awesome, but there aren’t many reviews for them!

      We haven't tested the Pelican soft sided, but it is on our list. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I have a request. Can you do a video on how well these keep water out? I use coolers as dry boxes in the boat and out camping quite often. Over the years of doing this, I have discovered that many do not keep rain water out. I don't know how this test would be conducted other than leaving coolers out in the rain. It is an important feature none the less. Rain getting in a cooler will melt ice or wet its contents.

      Good idea, we can try something like this in the future.

      He did a review of which coolers keep water in, so it would stand to reason if they keep the water in then they would also keep water out.

    Just bought an Igloo Latitude 50 QT. Any experience or knowledge of the durability and reliablity of lid and handles?

    • @CoolersOnSale
      @CoolersOnSale  5 років тому

      We didn't really hammer the handles, but the lid definitely indented when sitting/standing. I wouldn't recommend using it as a seat/step.

    Nice if you had to choose which has the most rigid lid/cooler what would it be also has any cooler company put an actual weight capacity on their specs? Like and subscribe to this channel you won't regret it also check out the full write ups about your favorite coolers at coolersonsale.com

      I don't think so. Not sure if they technically want people doing that..... but we know the reality is, people will do it!
