OMG! This takes me back. We lived in Abu Dhabi from 1980-85. I was sorting out old photos this week and trying to remember all the names of the emirates and I remembered there was a song… 🙂
Lived in The UAE from 1978 til 1991, schooled at Al khubairat in Abu Dhabi, DESS in Dubai, Choueifat in Sharjah then finally St Mary’s in Dubai. Lived in Jumeirah 1 and various locations in Bur Dubai, the real old parts with real character, parts of Dubai that travelog and newspaper articles rarely mention. Played rugby for the Exiles at the old Dubai Exiles rugby club, chilled out by the pool at the Country club and later Chicago Beach club. Socialised at the Highland Lodge and occasionally got on stage during the jam sessions when the brilliant De Soto, fronted by the late Steve Waller, a brilliant guitar player, were resident band. This to me was the real Dubai.
War 1977 bis 1984 in den UAE. Habe Alles gesehen! Sharjah Dubai Ras Al Khaimah Abu Dhabi Masafi Und vieles mehr! Es war meine Beste Zeit meines Lebens. Habe in 7 Jahren mein Zweifamilien Haus erspart.Habe auf Kalorischen Kraftwerken und Entsalzungs Anlagen gearbeitet! Allhamdudellah!
Nostalgia.... beautiful good ole days. After 43 years of living in Dubai its my second home. There was another song Back in Dubai by Sal Davis i think. 😍😍😍
OMG! That really brings back memories. Lived in Al Ain in the 80s and played this song many times on the cassette player. Those were great days and loved every minute there.
I was born in Dubai and lived there from 1980 to 1999 was the best days of my life, I lived in maktoum street deira, and went to rashed al saleh school then Dubai government high school, the best moments of my life was when i use to come back to Dubai from a holiday in Egypt or anywhere else and see the lights of the airport at night as the plane land there..
@dombradyevamaria you remind me of those places which i never forgot,,, but the best was the chicago beach hotel ,,, it was seems so far , away from town... driving at night with narrow rd[s with camels crossings here and there.... good days
Patrick Brady My long term bandmate and songwriting collaborator Michael Kiely has sadly passed away. We played and wrote songs together for many years. Sadly missed. Rest In Peace Michael. 😥
Just as nice to remember for me too of Dubai '79 March till '80 April. Loved the Boys at the Hilton Bar "The Establishment". Mine cassette by the time is demaged, but the cover still have :)
My name is Jim Povey and I lived in Dubai from 1974 to 1981 and I remember Mike and Patrick from the Hilton Bar Happy times, good luck to all who followed. xxx
Oh wow!!! I wore this tape out. I am so happy to have found this. Brought tears to my eyes. My parents played it so often back then. Thank you for uploading, I´ve just sent it to friends and family that will remeber it too.
Great video!!! It brings back many a fond memory. I lived at Chicago Beach Villas, (Arabian Development Co.) from 1979 to 1981. My father worked at Dubal I went to school at Jumeriah American School now the American School of Dubai.
Thank you for sharing, this was the sound track of my life back then, I was 12 or 13 in school in Sharjah when I used to listen to this song on the radio, it still makes me smile :)
I remember listening to Patrick and Michael play this at the Hilton. They gave me my own Japanese banjo so I could play their song myself. They were really nice guys
Yes, I remember too. In the early eighties I used to go to the Dubai Trade Center building to have beer and sit there listening to them and other singers. Was that the Hilton? Don't remember. If I remember correctly I had the 45 of this song with "Back in Dubai" on the flip side.
No Problem buddy. I am a person who was at your time when you were here at the age of 4 yrs old! I am a 100% UAE local. I lived five years in Missouri (Saint Louis) and then five years in Manchester UK... and each time i leave any of these places i feel someone has taken my heart a way :) Thanks a gain for the post
Wow, I saw The Establishment play this many times in The Meridien in Abu Dhabi around 1982. Thanks so much for posting this it's a very happy memory and one I did not expect to find.
I love this song...took a long time of browsing to find this. I grew up in India listening to this song..this was my dad's favourite..there were also other songs on the tape - Back in Dubai etc..love all the songs. Brings back beautiful memories too of my stay in Oman (visited Dubai)
Yes, Mrs. Khalid is my mom, but she taught art, not Arabic, to the elementary school kids. You're right, Ms.Chiles taught art to the Junior High kids. I remember Bob Ackerman and his wife Marianne . They came to our house many times with Bill and Lynn fell, Corrine Radhwan, and the principal, Jack Wenerick. My mom was good friends with all of them. I helped out at JAS before coming to college in the US so most of the teachers were like aunties and uncles. I'm still in touch with the Fells. xoxo
how cool lol big changes though! have lived in Abu Dhabi last 11 years and even 11 years ago there were maybe 5 'nicer' hotels in AD..gorgeous beaches, etc...now, concrete jungle, beaches have been destroyed. yes, there is some beautiful architecture, but at what cost?

Nice words he throw here and there:) Hala wa marhaba means "hi and welcome" literally, but it means to say that likes that life there and welcome it, metaphorically. Bokra, inshalla means "tomorrow, hopefully"
@Leiflton --Hello, Michael i dont know where he is -Patrick Brady you find him in facebook he is in Australia, maybe he know about Michael. Maybe you ask dombradyevamaria she knows about Michael.
Hi TheBoracayboy, Thank you so much for posting this. A few of my friends and I loved finding it. Though we are a younger generation we thought it was a fantastic song and find. Everyone enjoys reading or listening to their home as a setting of a story of some sort. On another note, would you mind if I use some of the imagery associated with the video for some research I am working on in the UAE ? I will reference your link , ofcourse. Thanks ! Best wishes Sawsan
