  • If you want to learn how to knit Toe Up Socks, this video is the perfect starting point.
    In this video I show you step-by step how to knit a Toe Up Sock, using a circular needle and the magic loop method. I'll be knitting English Style with the yarn in my right hand and the sock I'm making is a UK adult size 4 - 5, starting at the toes, using Judy's Magic Cast-On, then has a German Short Row Heel and finishes with a nice stretchy cast off.
    I'll be taking you through every step of the way as I knit my sock, but if you need a little more help, I also have in-depth videos on every technique used and will add the links along the way in the video and list them below.
    There is a printable PDF version of the pattern that can be purchased on Ravelry and will soon be available on Etsy. The pattern uses all the same techniques demonstrated in this video, but includes the following foot sizes:
    UK adult shoe size 3, (Eau 36).
    UK adult shoe size 4-5, (Eau 37-38).
    UK adult shoe size 6, (Eau 39).
    UK adult shoe size 7-8, (Eau 40-41).
    The pattern is available on Ravelry at:
    www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...
    I"m using a 100 gram ball of sock yarn and a 2.5mm (80cm length) circular needle and making a sock to fit a UK size 4-5 foot (37-38 European sizing).
    The Start Time points are also available below, so that you can return any time to the video and go exactly to the right point to continue.

    I just found your video. Fantastic! I followed your instructions, knitting with you (not the fast bits) and I am so happy with my first toe up sock. I bought your pattern from Ravelry so I can go ahead and make the second sock. Thank you again for the brilliant video.

    Having been an knitter for well over 55 years and vowing NEVER to knit socks, I was inspired by Sammy’s sock and purchased your pattern and with the help of your easy to understand video tutorial ………I’ve knitted a sock! Very pleased with the result. The magic loop, German short rows and stretchy cast-off are all absolutely brilliant. Thanks x

      Well done, that brilliant, I’m so pleased that you’ve knitted a sock. I know it’s a little moment to celebrate, when you’ve knitted your first sock. Yes Sammy is a ray of sunshine and very into her knitting and crochet, isn’t she. Well done and I’d love to see a photo when it suits you. Xx

    Wendy, I’ve recently been watching lots of knitting tutorials showing socks and hoping I’ll be ready soon to try making my first pair. Although I’ve enjoyed viewing several other accounts and their videos yours has been the most helpful to me. I love how you take your time to show each step in the process. I’m feeling more confident about taking the plunge. Thank you! ❤

    Thanks for such an informative instruction video, my 2024 resolution- Try knitting Toe up socks, I think it will be much easier than the
    Heel flap and gusset cuff down style once I get used to it, my motto is - you are never too old to learn new techniques

    As a person who has ADHD I have been losing my concentration in the knitting of socks. I can't remember what I did at the beginning of the row for inc/dec. Frustrating..yes. 😢 This tutorial is so explanatory and understandable, I can knit along and not make mistakes. 😊 I used to knit socks but stopped because my brain goes to 'broken' mode and confuses itself, so I gave up socks and did only simple stitch garments. Now I can do this again and quite look forward to it as this my preferred style starting at toe. Thank you for making this video. 🎉🎉🎉

    Hello Wendy, a great video. I've knitted a few pairs of sock but it's between other projects ,then I forget how to do it. One thing I've noticed watching your video or I've missed it was the side gusset. I found your video so much easier. I have a liking to do two at a time as I have the one knitted sock problem not doing the second one!!! Eager to start next projects. Thank-you. I've brought your pattern and just started your socks doing two at a time. I will let you know how I get on.

    At what point did you switch from using the front needle to knit to using back needle? Using the back needle is making my pearl looking stitches on the outside of my sock.

    Fantastic tutorial. Thanks so much. I’d like to know what to do for contrasting heel and toe - to avoid the stripe at the top of foot in the contrast colour. If anyone can give me a lead for this, Thank you!

      Hi there, I’ll add that subject to be included as discussion in a video in the coming new year. But I do find that when I wash or block my socks that a small amount of laddering can disappear when the socks are soaked.

    Hi Wendy.....I'd like to do the heel in the same yarn as the rest of the sock. Does this cause a any issues to arise? Thanks!

  • @sunnybigmc90
    @sunnybigmc90 8 місяців тому

    When u went around on the top with the red yarn after u did the heel does it have to be that same yarn as the heel? Bc I don’t like the look of a random stripe going across the front of the sock. Like can’t you use the same colored yarn as the rest of the sock??

    • @WendyPooleKnits
      @WendyPooleKnits  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi there. Yes, to explain it, I knitted the heel in red for the video, so that you can clearly see that this is a character of the German short row heel. So if you knit a heel in a contrast colour you will get that narrow stripe. If you did those two rounds in the main shade, you’re just have more ends to darn in, but could do it that way.
      Alternatively you could knit the “wrap and turn” short row heel that doesn’t have that 2 rounds halfway through the heel, so it works well if you want to use a contrast colour.
      I’ve included the link below and hope that answers the question for you. Xx
