Kadıköy is where all the etlitist champagne socialists live, and they like to live very modern lifestyle. You went to the place where people like to eat overpriced waffles and ice cream, or avocado on toast with some starbucks coffee, you can't expect rustic rural foods and people. Go to the black sea, to Trabzon, rize, and go to the villages there, then you will see real hearty people and real food.
@EllisWR I lived in Istanbul for many years, I have also travelled all over Turkey. Istanbul is a busy place. It's a fast life, full of stressed people. Eastern Turkey is nice, depending on where you go. In the past it was quite a dangerous area with lots of terrorist attacks, but it's much safer now. Big Kurdish population in the south east. But in the Blacksea you have the Pontus Rum population (Laz). They are a Hellenic people, like a distant cousin. They can still speak a version of Greek. The food there is amazing, the views are spectacular with rolling green mountains over the clouds. They grow tea there as well, so some places look like rural China. The only problem is the people there can be a bit backward, a little too conservative, and they love their guns. Not a good mix. But if you have been to eastern Turkey you can handle the Black Sea.
@@EllisWR Okay so this is going to sound very long and detailed, and it's because I made plans to do a week trip in this area for myself a while ago. It's probably not realistic to be able to do all these in one week but it's the plan anyway. I hope you like reading. :D Well, it depends on how rural you want to go. If you go by plane, you'll probably land in Trabzon airport, so I'd explore that area first. Sümela Monastery, which is a religious museum now, was built in the 4th century AD into the side of a cliff and is only 1-hour drive from the airport. That would be my first destination. Then I'd come back to Trabzon and visit the Hagia Sophia (not the one in Istanbul), and Ataturk's Mansion. I don't know how much you know of Ataturk, apart from him being the founder of Turkey, but he is genuinely one of the best people that existed. He did so much for women's rights, ethnic rights, and lifting people out of poverty and turned a backward people into a secular nation. Always good to pay respects. You could also go to Boztepe, a hill that overlooks the city, it's a bit more of a touristy place but there are cable carts that take you to the top. I'd then have dinner, maybe some Akçaabat Köfte (meatballs). Stay in a bed and breakfast and hit the road the next morning. I don't know if you'll like it, but Uzungöl (Lake Uzun) is a very famous tourist spot. In fact, it's so popular with Arab tourists that it's hard to find a Turkish person here. And, imo, they have ruined the once pristine beauty of that lake by building concrete around it, but it might make for a good venting video :D. However, the location is absolutely beautiful with amazing tall mountains that enclose the area and disappear into the clouds (depending on the weather). That is about an hour and a half drive from Trabzon. On the way there you can make a quick stop at Sürmene, the town isn't much to look at but they are known for their craftsmanship of high-quality knives. It could be a nice souvenir. Also while you are there, you can have the Sürmene pidesi for dinner. Day 3 I would grab some freshly caught seafood grub for breakfast from Trabzon and start making my way towards Rize, it's about an hour's drive from Trabzon. You can stop for some food but continue out of the city. You can find some really beautiful wooden cabin/bungalow guesthouses around Çamlıhemşin or Ayder Plateau (I'd prefer the latter) that are relatively cheap and very cosy. Some of these lodges have amazing views and are good enough to just stay there for the whole holiday imo. But after check-in, I'd go to Zilkale (Bell Castle) in Firtina Valley, a great place to go for a little hike and see the castle, which is quite close. There is an entry fee for the castle, but I think it's worth it. From there I'd explore between Firtina Valley and Huser Plateau, and return in the evening back to Çamlıhemşin or Ayder Plateau and have some karalahana çorbası (black cabbage soup) and cornbread for dinner. Very traditional. In the morning, I'd start day 4 by having Muhlama for breakfast with a view of the plateau. It's a cheese dish like fondue but way better. I'd then make about a 2.30-hour trip to Borçka Karagöl Natural Park, near the border of Georgia. It's a beautiful site with waterfalls, lakes, mountains, covered with forest and a good place to have a little walk and a picnic. From there, about an hour's drive, right on the edge of the Georgian border, there is the Macahel Valley, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. A lot of places so far have amazing views, but this place is exceptionally good. It is known as the green heaven on earth. Really tall green mountains covered in forests, and this area is known for their honey, and won many international awards for it. So I'd go to a local beekeeping farm and taste/buy some. It's a 3-hour drive back to the cabin so I'd probably prefer to find a place to stay here rather than drive all the way back. For dinner, I'd have some Karalahana Sarması (stuffed black cabbage) which is a rustic local dish. On day 5 I'd start heading back towards Trabzon. I'd drive 2 hours west to visit Mençuna Waterfall. There is the chance to do a nice short hike there as well. On the way between the waterfall and Rize, you'll be going by small towns and villages like Çayeli and Pazar. These are big tea-growing regions. I'd hike up to some of the tea plants there, and enjoy some fresh tea and perhaps buy some to bring home. I'd then continue on to Rize. and book a cheap hotel room. I'd definitely have some hamsi tava for dinner while in this region. It's what they are known for. For day 6, I'd try to negotiate with some fishermen and go out with them for the day. I know, it's not the mountain hiking experience, but fishing, and seafood is such a huge part of the culture of Blacksea people. They are synonymous with it. So, for a bit of cultural appreciation, I'd like to see how they live and why it is that they are so passionate about fishing. For dinner I'd either have a Karides Güveç (shrimp casserole) or some restaurants offer to cook the fish you caught that day (if you did any fishing), I'd go to one of those and get them to cook the fish I caught with the fishermen. On day 7, I'd return back to Trabzon, maybe visit the bazaar, and then relax for a bit before returning to the airport.
@@EllisWR Also also, I'd highly recommend you to watch two videos from a channel that I like, the videos are called "Show Me Turkiye - Trabzon", and "Show Me Turkiye - Rize". They are made by a guy from this region and very high quality, showing you some of the places with good edits. You can see a bit of Trabzon and Rize on those videos. You can see a few of the places I mentioned, and some that I haven't.
I love Istanbul and usually prefer to stay in Kadikoy. And I would say Im a lot more similar to you than some hipster. Surprised by your takeaway of the area!
Think we had some serious reverse culture shock mate aha and feeling like we were back in Manchesters northern quarter sent us over the edge! We like our old school stuff! Different strokes for different folks they say!
@EllisWR I was also thinking maybe it's due to the fact that you've just come from visiting some other very interesting/remote locations, so perhaps it pales in comparison.
Yeah that's the one it felt miserable and reminded us of home. The silly prices and everyone being a grumpy sod. We're too old school need to get out in the small town aha
Kadykoy is one of the best neighbourhoods in Istanbul and I love it there it’s very laid back. People don’t runaround like rats like they do in London.
It is still shaving the shit of the kebab just the same as a nice knife it is crap, I've worked in the halal industry And the only thing that holds the Kebab is 70% fat😮
@EllisWR @EllisWR Pick up the lemon in your own backyard with your bare. Have some respect for other people! Just because you were never loved and abused as a child by your parents, other people should not pay with their health. There is a pair of thongs placed for a reason. You want to copy some people by not wearing shoes is your choice, no one gives a f But putting your hands into a bowl is our business. If it is terrible, why have you been staying there, especially not having money, counting the pennies. Take your medicine andf.o.from Turkiye, no one holds you. Why are you waiting! @@EllisWR for example in the beginning of the video, filming someone without consent is just rude. Saying out loud that someone has a bad breath several times, saying in that lunch restaurant or whatever it was that the chicken looks like dog food.. there’s plenty of examples in the video. Love ur videos but I was just disappointed. If you think you’re good then keep doing you🙏🏼
@@jiji8501If we didn't film people there'd be no videos uploaded for you to watch on here, if someone doesn't like the camera and they tell me I stop filming. The chicken looked like plain chicken breast which is my dogs favourite meal. I don't know when I said about bad breath, but if someone did smell it's fine to say it aha just a laugh. English people say whatever no stress life ain't serious. I'd rather listen to someone who says it how it is than the rest of the codswallop on here, half the people who are super nice on camera are absolute weapons in real life.
Alright aha sorry! To be fair I ain't too bad compared to some on here. Will be back to happy days in a couple videos! Could bleep stuff out but I forget!

Cam u guys please go to capatocia
Ooo its way too touristy for us like!
Yes, way too touristy for them.
Do you like tomoohs sir?
Who
It’s like a ghost town, must be because of the high prices and cost of living.
Nobody gets up until like 10am it's weird aha. Night time full of people drinking tho
Good morning Ellis, I agree with you Istanbul was not for me either. The Archeology Museum is fantastic though.

Each to their own I guess! For me it's just a trendy, overpriced and super gentrified area. Could be anywhere in the world!
It is still shaving the shit of the kebab just the same as a nice knife it is crap, I've worked in the halal industry And the only thing that holds the Kebab is 70% fat😮
We love fat ahah
Going to kalcan, see you there in 3weeks 🙂
Looks bloody beautiful enjoy mate!!
❤❤❤
This man needs to take his medication before leaving his house. I hope one day he'd find peace instead of fighting with himself.
Don't worry we'll be happy again the second we leave this awful place.
@EllisWR @EllisWR Pick up the lemon in your own
backyard with your bare. Have some respect for other
people! Just because you were never
loved and abused as a child by your
parents, other people should not pay

to copy some people by not wearing
shoes is your choice, no one gives a f But putting your hands into a bowl is
our business. If it is terrible, why have
you been staying there, especially not having money, counting the pennies. Take your medicine andf.o.from Turkiye, no one holds you. Why are you waiting! Go back to sleeping on the footpath in North England.
I think you need to take meds mate your life sounds miserable. I touched MY lemon that I ate MYSELF.
Your angry because of you nasty worse turkey 🦃 you will understand
'Ere.... This fruit 'n veg market's sick, though, nice prices! 🥳
Was decent mate only place that didn't make me wanna end myself
@@EllisWR 😩😂 Fuckin' 'elllll, I feel for ya, pal!
@@-TheWatcher- Might be over exaggerating like ahaha but it was pants. Onto somewhere sick next!
@@EllisWR No, no, it's fine, it's ok, I understand, please don't be embarrassed about it, I'm glad you're still with us..... Please remember, there's many of us here for you, please reach out to us at any time..... 🙏...... 😩🤧😂
@@EllisWR Oh shit, yeah, onwards 'n upwards, btw, eh! Iiiinsoide! 🤘
If you cant say anything nice, Maybee its best to say nothing at all. Shame i thought you were better than that.
I don't believe in that aha I'd much rather listen to someone who says whatever they think even if I don't agree with em! Everyone on YT does nothing but people please it ain't our thing! Have a lovely day mate :)
@@EllisWR Just hope you left Turkey before you posted this. Turkish people are very proud and can get nasty about there home, Just be very carefull Ellis all the best hope you understand where im comming from. ???
@@jleach4278 I understand you completely, some people get all funny about things they don't like to hear I know. They can come for us if they want we're not bothered. Next series is a belter were in a pretty cool part of the world!

We never meet them! :( hopefully!!
You need to check yourself ellis. I was quite disappointed in how rude you were in this video. Nothing uglier than rude people.
Rude to who? We're respectful to anyone who gives us respect equally.
If I think a place is terrible I'll say whatever aha there's plenty of channels out there talking out their ass everywhere they go.
Have a lovely day
@@EllisWR for example in the beginning of the video, filming someone without consent is just rude.
C u n Tuesday 😂
ahaha thats the one!!
Sorry u didn’t like it ,it‘s normal it‘s expensive in tourist places but I loved it ,going again this year😘

No matter what you do there, it will be nothing like Manchester
This area is literally identical to the northern quarter and every other modern hipster area worldwide aha. Incredibly boring and full of weirdos mate I swear. Next destination is cool as though we're back in a top country!

Will definitely be coming to Lebanon just don't know when!
Nice tour. When will you come to me? . I miss you so much my husband. ❤❤
What country?
I was in istanbul years ago, I did not enjoy it tbh. Too busy, loads of scammers and nothing special to see.
Glad to hear others ain't too keen also! So many places you could go instead that are miles better!
@@EllisWR Mate, you MUST go to Jordan!
Petra will blow your mind! An entire ancient city carved into the mountains. It is were they filmed one of Indiana Jones episodes.
It is a MUST! If your still in Middle East, try it out.
PS: The Jordanian Dinar is 1 = 1.15 BP
Good luck, looking forward to more of your videos!
@@ahmedhabib442 I've heard its pretty expensive over there?! Definitely on the list though with Lebanon and Egypt
@@EllisWR Yeah, similar to UK. Defo more expensive than Iraq.
Egypt is cheaper, but you will get ripped off and end up paying more (because your a tourist).
