So, I’ve noticed some people talking about the amp, and the compression settings. I’ve played guitar for a long time, so I think I can shed some light on things. The sound they’re going for is super heavy compression. The reason they want to get away from an amp, is because amps tend to have a really soft compression, or at least a soft knee compression, that morphs into distortion. The compression they’re using is something really hard and fast. If it was a guitar pedal, it would probably be the MXR Dynacomp, which is known that that smacky, poppy sound you hear. Any hard knee compression should work great. For everyone complaining about how they use an amp plugin: On Waves GTR, which is what he’s using there, the “Direct” setting is “no amp”, meaning “Direct in”. Which means that any sound he’s getting out of that plugin is from the cab (speaker) emulation. The other setting, for Punchy, is still very clean. And, as you can probably tell from the name, it’s based off an amp that accentuates the punchy, snappy compression tone they’re after. Specifically, it’s based on a 100 watt Marshall amp, with the gain down low so you don’t get that soft knee compression I was talking about. The fact that they’re running the compression BEFORE the amp means that they get the compression character they want, and the amp is either only giving them a cab emulation for a bit more character, or some light saturation from the punchy amp for a bit more character. This is very different from the traditional guitar setup, where the guitar is run into a slightly dirty amp to get some light compression and distortion there, and then the engineer adds some light compression during the mixing stage. That sound (and you can hear this on really any rock record every) is smoother and bigger and much, much less snappy sounding. Basically, guitarists haven’t been trained to hear compression, so when they use it, they go way overboard lol
@@AE-hx7wy All the famous Chic records/ Sister Sledge records were through the Neve console direct. No amp. Niles live setup would be a different things altogether.
Stating same as Prince is wild because Prince played Tele's almost 90% of his career for rhythm guitar. His Hohner MadCat specifically, so claiming "same as Prince" is wild.
I know its not a vocal booth, but you have a lot of resonance in the lower Hz. Maybe the microphone is just placed where the low end resonates? It only happens to the guy with the glasses.

DI all daayyyy baby love to hear it. Was getting frustrated about all the background noise in my apartment trying to record an amp.
Nile plugged directly into a Neve Preamp I believe or a Neve Desk.
Maybe, but he does use the countryman 85 di also, he said in a interview i think it can also be seen in some live footage.

thank you ☺️
Is there any hero out there on the Internet who can tell me the tab or roughly explain the funk licks that Chromeo plays in the video?
it's DI but then they use an amp sim so it's not really DI?
I think it's to act more as an boost/EQ than an amp
Nile Rogers produced Lets Dance by David Bowie, if I remember right
Correcr
i comment so the algorithm pushes this
Thank you! Sharing on socials / with friends also helps algo

You think they’re gonna professionally EQ and mix the mic they’re talking into for a stream????
they say, we dont use amps. but then they pick waves guitar amp. I didnt get this point :) any help for me ?
They're just after a more dry guitar sound
@@SolStateMusic thankss, appreciate for your effort
Money money money by abba!?
Did they show the compressor settings?
Don't think so. Just go for compression that helps keep the guitar transient punchy, I think that was their goal
"Jack the Compressor", very helpful.
nice video, how much compression should i use?
As much or as little as you need. Prob using a fast attack slow release to get that punch.
algo rhythm
spelled the RIGHT way 😂🚀
Please tell me the song at 0:55 heartache no.9 doesn't sound like that
there's a few versions of the song
ye can't seem to find it either

dont plug into an amp, but then uses waves gtr amp.... LOL
You do know it can be used as a blend, right? That's why Nile and those guys sometimes did. DI + the Amped sound.
"No amp" but then they use an amp plugin...
