    FINALLY! A youtube content that talks about manga that does not just repeat what happens to the series but actually analyze and critique what is happening base on ones opinions while also comparing it to real life experiences or other literature that depicts similar ideas to the said series.
    Love you fam.
    Literally one of the youtuber that I can listen for hours on repeat and still doesn't get bored.

    tbh, based of current state of the star wars franchise, togata would probably glad that the world end up like that before the next movie was make

    Volume 5 is definitely my favorite, it felt so real, and I admire Fujimoto so much for going down that route where so few mangaka go. I don’t know what it’s like to be a trans person, but Togata’s moment really helped give me a slimmer of an idea as to the pain one goes through in their journey to regain their own identity and make it realized and accepted.
    What an absolute chad Fujimoto is for giving us that beautiful moment on top of other amazing and unique moments.
    And much love and support to your bro Meghan, I hope he’s happy and doing well with his transition!

      Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s amazing the way Fujimoto can cover such a topic in a manga like this one and do it so naturally. It’s a very important topic that needs more attention in not only manga but in all forms of media 💜Thank you so much Kevin for your kind words! I’ll be sure to pass it to him 😊 -Mehgan ✨

    I love living through the the reviews and experiencing the emotions as if I'm actually reading the manga. You guys do such a good job of describing the scenes in order and make it really easy to follow along with the review. I love this podcast and I'm glad to actually know you guys. Finally I get to hear your reactions to the crazyness that is Fire Punch. Togata is an interesting character, aside from her shenanigans, in that she is basically the force that tries to keep the story on its original premise, i.e. a revenge story, whereas Agni constantly makes selfish decisions that derail the entire manga. In a way that makes the characters feel more real, like they're actual persons who act independently of what the story wants them to do.
    Now you guys haven't mentioned the paneling or any of the artstyle aside from the short mention in the beginning. But I think that can easily be touched upon in Part 3 so no biggie. I don't know how you felt reading it but I think the flow of the manga is very easy on the mind, which makes it so re-readable. I wish Fujimoto would have brought up that Agni is mentally a 15-year old way earlier, because it changed my perspective on his decisions and way of thinking on subsequent re-reads. It's something one should always keep in mind.
    I was also hoping you'd mention that guy on the train that Togata messed up and his memorable phrase "Even though women deserve Respect, it is impossible for them to have the same rights as men. This is COMMON SENSE." It's just such a ridiculous line and really shows that morality also went back to an ice age. Another moment I think deserves respect is in Vol 3 where Agni stands atop burned corpses with one side worshipping him and the other fearing him, with the smoke of the corpses seperating both groups. It's one of those pages where you can get an idea of what is happening without context.
    Funny that one of the commenters suggested Fumetsu no Anata e since it's very VERY close to Fire Punch in its setting. An Immortal searching his purpose in a dystopian world with some sweet suffering.
    It's no FP but I like it for the most part and will probably one of the top airing anime next season.
    15:40 While kicking her head she yells "Kick the baby!" which is a freaking South Park reference
    1:33:30 A shame you didn't touch up on what is in my opinion the best moment of the story (next to The Face)? The cinematic way it's framed over NINE pages without dialogue, showing the memories of a happy Luna and her charred corpse, his years of suffering, concluding in, what I believe to be an imagined smile by Doma, resulting in Agni lying to himself on account of his sister is so beautifully done.
    Uff, yet another wall of text but I can't help myself. Volume 5 and 8 are my favourites.

      very cool take, togata is a trans man tho

    • @coltondavis7022
      @coltondavis7022 2 роки тому

      @@melodrama6107 kinda? Togatas want to be a man stems from her obsession with movies, which doesn’t mean that they don’t actually want to be male, but it is definitely different from a traditional trans person.

    • @atarigangmember6587
      @atarigangmember6587 2 роки тому

      @@coltondavis7022 I think the takeaway is supposed to be that the world of fire punch both pre and post ice age, much like ours, is heavily patriarchal, and didn’t depict woman as heroes. Togata even alludes to this in how agni is accepted as a god despite his insanely high body count, low intelligence and selfish saviour complex in regards to Luna due to how he represents masculinity. A lot of the societal issues that fujimoto brings up in fire punch (tribalism, discrimination, the work-culture-via-firewood stuff, and systematic sexism) is more abstracted than in csm due to the more outlandish setting, but it’s def there; I mean they immediately create a female scapegoat to blame a natural disaster on and promote further polarisation.
      I don’t think the intention was to undercut togata’s gender identity, but to further detail how hard it would be to suffer with his gender dysphoria

    A breath of fresh air. At points I literally felt high off shrooms from this story and the way my emotions were up and down. It was so fun with Agni learning English and the Star Wars reveal. But then vol. 5... Doma's family. Poor Togata ☹️. Another thoughtful episode guys.

    Shit, I didn't know that you release this 5 days ago damn, I was waiting for this.
    Edit: Bruh, I never thought I will see a movie where just a bunch of people talking in one room with like 3 cameras with a mind blowing topic that literally keeps you interested without any effects or flashback to understand a character.
    Edit again: on the second part I was talking about "The man (on)from earth"

    • @VolumeOnePodcast
      @VolumeOnePodcast  3 роки тому

      The Man From Earth is a great movie that shows how you don't need a huge budget or sets to tell a great thought provoking story, highly recommend it anyone and if you just listen to the audio it doubles as a podcast

    Well almost all fujimoto works(include his oneshoot) is about people try to connect and seeking stability trough insanity.. He might be labeled as edgy mangaka, but it's what make his story so good at exposing character especially when the tension goes down
    and y'all getting better, i liked the chemistry, especially when cody giving insights, josh also doing good at leading the narrative and mehgan keep the podcast interesting with her humour

    • @VolumeOnePodcast
      @VolumeOnePodcast  3 роки тому +1

      We buy them mostly on Amazon because sometimes barnes and noble or other stores don't have the exact volume you need. Also the shonen jump app is only a couple bucks a month and has a pretty decent selection of series.
