Is funny everyone talks about towing etc. I live in an area where every other house has a F150 or Ram, and I would say 95% of them never tow anything or even have anything large on the truck bed. Maybe once awhile a trip to local Home Depot for something small. 🤷🏻

Lots of non-truck owners on here butt-hurt that Andre wasn’t on his knees bowing and chanting “we’re not worthy, we’re not worthy”.
I don’t own a Tesla but I have driven them and was a bit annoyed with the multifunction scroll wheel/button that has to be turned to specific modes for things like adjusting the mirrors. Driving on the other hand, took a little getting used to (mostly due to one pedal mode/high regen mode) but was otherwise “normal”, so that’s a positive.
The lack of buttons and switches for simple things annoys me because I’m used to them. I don’t like scrolling through menus to do simple things a toggle switch would have accomplished.
For me, EVs show promise but I prefer the established brands take on them where they aren’t trying to reinvent they way we use a vehicle, just the propulsion and “fueling” systems.

And yeah, the giant laptop in the middle of the screen will forever be a nitpick. Having to flip though menus to adjust anything got old very quick.

This is definitely a lifestyle choice. I made my living with trucks as a primary tool in the home building business over 50 years. This thing would be a liability with the short range when towing, the expense of maintaining it and all of the complex technology. Of course, I think that all of the tech in most new trucks has the same problem. A real work truck lives a hard life, constantly hauling, towing, operating in muddy jobsites and getting banged and beat up. I can't tell you how many of my trucks have been backed into or had materials dropped into or on them. It wasn't unusual to have a load of rock dumped in the bed. I was in and out of my truck all day long, usually with muddy boots, tools in my pockets and covered in sweat. I need buttons to control thing in the truck, not touch screens. I wouldn't want to have to take off my gloves every time I got in it. And the mirrors, which need to be as big as possible to back trailers into tight spots are absolutely useless on the Tesla. I can't see why someone that needs a truck for a work vehicle would ever want one. It seems to be more of a statement than a tool.

@@SurelyYewJest if we're talking hilly and mountainous terrain, the EV is going to be able to recoup some of its range on the downhill portions, so that's another thing to factor in.
My truck will do 22 MPG highway, but when I'm towing, that goes down to around 10-11 MPG. Through the hills, that drops to 8-9 MPG, and on downhills I have to put wear on my brakes to keep it from taking off. That's where regenerative braking shines when towing. You save wear and tear on both vehicle and trailer brakes, and the extra weight adds extra regeneration.
They're running a prototype electric train in Australia at a mine there, and it hauls empty cars up to be reloaded, then full ones down to be emptied...or vice versa...can't remember the details. Anyways, the kinetic energy generated on the downhill portion has proven to be enough to fully recharge the locomotive for the next uphill trip...and regenerative braking follows that same principle.
So yeah, range is reduced, but there are conditions wher eyou can actually recoup that range...especially when braking using one pedal drive.
An ICE vehicle doesn't put gas back into the tank when it brakes. The only limitation for EVs right now is energy density...and solutions for that are coming a lot faster than people realize. We're talking in about 5 years, we'll see EVs with 600+ miles of range, and at more reasonable prices.

There is also an auto shift/gear that I. assume the Cybertruck will get which is currently available on Model X and S. Essentially you hit the brake and the car will automatically put it in drive or reverse depending on what you have in front or in the back. It works 80% of time correctly for me. Also when you remove your seatbelt if you are stopped the Model X and S currently will go automatically in park. The secondary shifting option by the rear mirror is for emergency only incase the screen stops functioning. All the others Tesla have the same secondary shifting option below the wireless phone charing pad on the center console. I have been driving my Model S Plaid for 3 years with the blinker buttons on the steering wheel; it is anon issue. You get used to it in a week and all the Tesla models are moving that way. • @MultiPurposeReviewer
      @MultiPurposeReviewer 9 місяців тому +1

This exactly. Even with something as simple as a volume knob is that way. I can reach over and turn the knob without ever having my eyes leave the road. Making everything screen-based demands broken focus.

People make way too big of a deal out of this. If the traffic is too thick or there are too many pedestrians or "potential" pedestrians around, I just don't change a setting. Putting off changing something for a few seconds or even a minute doesn't bother me at all. In environments where there is a lot of traffic or pedestrians, there are stoplights or stop and go / slow traffic. plenty of opportunity then to make setting changes at that point. Where I live there is a lot of open road between "rush hours" and during those times I am not concerned about looking away briefly to position my hand and make changes. Also I got used to grabbing the top or bottom of the screen with my fingers and using my thumb to tap buttons from relative distance without looking very much.
There is a ton of potential from putting everything on a screen. I'm not going to go into it in a comment but limiting the interface to physical buttons for the life of the car is not something I want to go back to. I love the screen.

I hate it when reviewers whine about not having buttons for everything or when they can’t figure out how to do something. When you actually own a vehicle, you read the manual or watch a video, configure that stuff once and then leave it in the majority of cases. And many vehicles have memory functions that capture the preferred settings for multiple people.

Is it safe to drive vehicle without mechanical steering wheel connection? If something broke in this system like sensor, module or steering motor during driving, you will not have chance to steer and stop vehicle safely. In my opinion steering and brakes must work mechanicaly even without power assistance.

That was a surprisingly good review and not too negative considering the usual Tesla bashing. Thx. I would mention the stainless steel advantage. I always wanted a truck not having a tin skin. The CT is tough. You can drive off road without scratching or denting. I do not like all the plastic of bumpers and underbody protection though.
The truck bed is easy to get into when in entry mode - that would be fair to show.
The bed volume with the tonneau cover closed is higher than other 1/2 ton trucks - but it is more difficult to reach into to the bed from the front. I am 5'11'' and I usually have to get into the bed (or step on the wheel) on other 1/2 ton trucks to reach for stuff anyways.
The settings seem clear to me and better than any other vehicle I have seen - of course there are many and a learning curve. But after a while you can leave most settings alone in auto.
I find the minimalism really simple as I would expect in a truck. It seems easy to operate. If the electronics in any modern truck fail then you are pretty much stuck. Mechanical buttons are also a failure point.
The different shifting is not really a problem. In fact the autoshifting should put you in the right direction 80+% of the time.
The tires are all terrain and also a part of the foundation series package.
The rear view mirror is really just for looking at the back seat passengers. It would have been nice with a rear view screen instead of a mirror. But you do have it on the main screen - also many truck/van drivers are used to driving with side mirrors only.
The buttons for indicators are far from impossible to use considering the wheel is never turned more than 170 degrees - but your opinion is fair.
Unless you go off road then no spare tire is no big deal. And you will save carrying around nearly a hundred pounds extra, which does make sense for an EV. OTOH it would have been nice with a dedicated space for an optional spare tire... Other lacking options: Why are there not more lights illuminating around the truck? Why are there no sockets in the trunk? Why are there not dedicated a-pillar side view screens? Head up display? No bed camera? No washer for aft camera?
I did not understand the problem with towing and in an emergency having to go to the towing screen? Trailer brakes are always on the main screen and you can use one of the scroll wheels to brake also.
Fair point about not all features yet available. OTOH the Tesla over the air update system is better than any other company. And frequently existing vehicles will receive significant improved/new functionality.

I used to love driving those dodge rams for work, towing stuff no toyota could do. They are the boss. I wonder what the rear steering does in the cyber truck when towing. Also, every prior car manufacturer ends up with electrical problems with doors/ locks ect ect, anything you can fix and make function after broken with a screw driver and coat hanger is ideal, I can imagine a lot of issues with general electrics with the cyber truck over time, like if ya smash a sensor loading steel bars or something then you’re going to lose productivity. I think they should make a more basic truck without all the electrics bar the steering and drive chain and battery management
