    2 weeks ago, I was at my Dr. office,and there were Narconon pamplets in the waiting room. I brought them to the front desk and explained that it was Scientology,and I showed them articles online. Her mother was abused in a Catholic school and there hasn’t been enough work around that in England. Maybe Ireland and Canada have just started, Ireland mostly with unwed mothers and raped boys but the girls’ not dealt with so much. Canada of course entitled North American genocide of the First Nations with killing FN children and sexually abusing them in Catholic schools. England and the USA are still in denial a. of it happening and b. of it happening on their own soil. I can not imagine what American school deaths and abuse numbers would be like if they can’t admit even one and Canada studied American schools to make theirs.

      @@j0nnyism No, I believe that currently it is probably Mike Rinder. When he escaped he was in one of the top 5 positions in the organization. In Claire's case I think she is so knowledgeable because of a confluence of factors. She was a 3rd generation member, raised from birth in the cult. Add to that her innate intelligence and her drive to achieve. All those things conspired to raise her up fairly high in the org.. One need only listen to her in a couple of interviews to realize that she is a very astutely intelligent person. I love listening to her and I respect her for her devotion to her husband and family as well. She's a class act. Nothing false about her. After 8 years in a Roman Catholic School, I can 100% say that my experience of Catholicism is the exact OPPOSITE of Scientology. I was the only 3rd grader in the school's 40-year history to ever see the Monsignor to ask what I was confirming in my Holy Confirmation ceremony. He listened to my questions and answered them, was very open and accepting when I disagreed on purgatory, and told me to "never stop questioning" and assured me that whatever i decided was okay because it's a very personal decision.
    I've chosen another faith as an adult -- and had no fear of leaving. No one was spying on me, chasing me down or threatening me and I'm getting pretty sick of people attacking Catholicism when they admittedly know very little about it.
    I choose not to drink but if you know anything about Polish weddings, there is plenty of drinking and dancing. (And most Pols are Roman Catholic.)
    Other differences, they NEVER discouraged time spent with parents.
    They NEVER made us pay for additional courses.
    They NEVER shamed their students by forcing them to to take responsibility for other people's actions.
    They NEVER flipped from a belief in God to belief in a space alien.
    Unless you knew the people personally, you NEVER heard about who left the church and we were NEVER told to shun them.
    They NEVER sent you to some camp to repent.
    They NEVER even suggested we worship the Monsignor over God. And we were never told that the Monsignor was anything more than a mortal man educated in Theology and Catholicism.
    They were very accepting of the kids in the school who weren't Catholic, and there was no push to recruit them. On the contrary, it was open discussion during religion class (one period a day).
    How is ANY of the above reminiscent of Scientology or any cult? How many people are leaving the Catholic Church and starting social media channels? Since when does a cult tell you to keep an open mind and to never stop🎉 questioning your beliefs? Where exactly are the similarities?
    I was looking forward to this video and, despite the fact I'm no longer a practicing Catholic, I had to tune out early.
    I come to a Journalist's channel for truth. This is not a channel where I expect see so many mistruths and vitriol over things you and your guests admittedly know very little about.
    Both you and your guests say you know very little about it. That's where you should have stopped because you're right.
    One last question: Why do I only hear this stuff about Catholicism being a cult on Scientology channels? If that's what Scientology taught them, why aren't expats questioning that?

    • @soonerbmama6727
      @soonerbmama6727 Рік тому +7

      Thank you for the clarification. I am Catholic and as always the comments made about Catholicism are clearly misinformed. Nothing is perfect, so there will be good and bad in everything. I know when my kids were going through confirmation, they were told that it was their decision. Not their parents or the church. There was one girl who changed her mind the day of confirmation and it was respected.

    • @BeingLifted
      @BeingLifted Рік тому +5

      @@soonerbmama6727 Thank you for sharing your experience. I've since asked a non-Catholic friend 20 yrs younger that attended a different Catholic school whether there was a big drive to recruit or convert her. There wasn't. So where did all this "cult" talk start? It seems to be most repeated by Scientologists and the timing seems to be about the same time so many people started leaving and speaking out. To my recollection, the first time I heard anything about Catholicism being a cult may have been by Leah or during one of her interviews with ex-Scientologists. I guess because they know so much about Catholicism? (not) Thank you for the credibility your truth lends to mine.

    • @LadyLibertyBella
      @LadyLibertyBella Рік тому +7

      I’ve noticed this as well. I’m Baptist but half my family are Catholic. I grew up going to both churches and was allowed to decide what I believed and where (or if) I felt faith. Some in my family are not involved in church at all. Yet we are all Christian and none of us feel obligated to disconnect from each other over our difference’s. I have friends of many faiths and of none. I’ve never been forced to do anything, certainly not forbidden to ask questions or speak to others. I could walk away from my church tomorrow and my family would never think of disconnecting from me and my church definitely wouldn’t demand it. They sure as heck wouldn’t hunt me down, lock me away as a prisoner and abuse me!
      I’ve noticed a lot of the channels of ex Scientologist or those that interview them are anti religion or anti faith period. But most often anti Christianity. Because they are often people who see everything as a cult now. It’s sad and misleading. Any religion, faith, believe or ideology can be cooped by horrible people and used to do horrible things. That doesn’t mean the are right or represent that belief correctly.
      I think it’s disappointing to see people who obviously don’t understand the beliefs of others to put their own judgment on it. Just as we try to understand how good people got sucked into Scientology without judging as we don’t know the reality behind it. But unfortunately people assume they know about all faiths and assume all are bad because a cult decides to call itself religion or faith.

    • @BeingLifted
      @BeingLifted Рік тому +4

      @@LadyLibertyBella Thanks for chipping in to the conversation. Coincidentally, as I was writing that comment, it occurred to me that in the old days it was the Baptists that were picked on. Since the priest pedophilia thing, those that were picking on Baptists flipped over to pick on Catholics. Since pedophiles exhibit psychopathic behavior, and psychopaths enjoy positions of power and, like Scientology, other religions may be operated by (or have officials that appear to be) psychopaths, we can be certain that there are pedophiles in every faith/religion. But even having pedophiles in a religion does not define it as a cult. I guess people are just going to hate on whatever they feel moved to hate on!

That's the humble-stuff. 🤗❤ As an aside, I've noticed that most ex-Scis tend to be amazingly truthful and self-deprecating, which is just astonishing considering their horrible training (brainwashing). I would do well to emulate this! 😊

    I don’t know why Claire, but when you speak, it really cuts through the bs, in a way that nobody else does. I know you are such a bright spirit to bring light to this darkness. I feel honored to have heard your story. It is totally inhuman and inhumane.
    It also reminds me of an episode of Black Mirror, where everyone was forced to play this Star Trek fantasy, some freak had.
    I think of Star Trek often when I think of Scientology. He was his own Captain Kirk, in his mind. He believed his own delusions so much that other people did too?
    I think the whole lot of you “sp’s are really awesome people. You all seem extraordinary in one way or another. I’m sure your children help you continue to heal. Hope your loved ones come around.

    I love Claire, she's amazing. I'd so like to hear more about her childhood,,, but maybe not if it still taumatises her. The real life stories have been such an education on Scientology, and the way all those guys deliver it means you know its not hyperbole. What I've found so far on Claire's where is Shelly series, is that there is very little ,,, personal reflection on what Shelly was like when young - is that on purpose do you think (it is Shelley's story to tell maybe). Claire had even interrupted a small anecdote Mike Rinder was relling about shoe laces - no big deal but I was enjoying it and had wanted to hear the end.

    Claire - thank you for being open and honest in telling your story. It cannot be easy to speak about Scientology so often. You have helped so many people, it’s incredible. I especially love hearing your perspective shift after becoming a mother - absolutely gut-reaching.
    You’ve done everything you can possibly do from the “outside,” and hopefully one day your mom will realize that and join you in your journey, together. Somewhere, deep down, I sense that she knows that. She knows your safe, and she knows you are happy. Sending so much love your way. ❤

    I knew this would be tough to hear, so I waited a couple of weeks. Somehow, I knew that child SA would be in there somewhere, and I have to be cautious for my mental health.
    The man who assaulted me was a public school teacher. He was finally arrested, tried, and sent to prison, but only after several children had been harmed.
    My Catholic Christian faith has helped me throughout my life, and I’m glad that child abuse is widely recognized as something that happens in every church (including mine) and in every school system, and just about every place that children frequent. The fact that we now have laws that require the reporting of either known or suspected child abuse to police by educators and health care professionals and religious “confessors” and others in professions where an adult might be in a position to find out about it is a great step forward.
    It’s extremely difficult to understand or to accept that there are adults in the Cult of Scientology who know about children being abused, and who do nothing about it in terms of our common justice system. Those adults had better wake up,
    because non Scientologists won’t be putting up with this heinous behavior. And you can bet, if a person is doing this within your cult, they won’t miss an opportunity to do it to children outside of it, as Claire has described. So if you keep wanting to call some of your members “priests” or religious “counselors”, you had better keep them informed about their responsibilities, because they can now be charged, too, if they fail to contact authorities.
    God bless you Claire! You and your husband and Andrew and Aaron and Chris and several others now are truly offering hope, support, and information for those escaping Scientology. I’m sure that this is very difficult for you sometimes, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically, as I know that the stress involved can often be a lot to deal with.
    Thank you to all of you. What you are doing is important!
    Don’t worry, Andrew! I predict you are going to have a long and beautiful life with family and friends beside you!

    I love listening to 'escapes' because there are many people in really difficult 'shituations' not necessarily 'cults' who are thinking their way out of or trying to get free of difficult situations. It gives one courage. It's almost like a thriller, and I have personal experience of 'escaping' certain narcissistic family members. However once you've escaped you are left to your own devices to pick up the pieces of your life. It's also such a difficult thing to explain to others.

    A lot of older Catholics grew up "BC" or Baltimore Catechism, which was extremely strict and restrictive. The Second Vatican Counsel moved away from that attitude.
    Actually, a lot of Protestant faiths can be just as vicious and cruel (I was raised in one). There was a pervasive tendency to "punish the body to save the soul" across Christianity as a whole. All it did was alienate believers and drive them away.
    I was lucky enough to grow and sample different Christian denominations, not only in my family but with my friends at the YMCA. I came from Wesleyans, Methodists, Baptists, and Moravians (German Quakers, who settled around Winston Salem, NC.)
    I dated a moderate Muslim from Afghanistan, then an Orthodox Jew, and finally married a Catholic ofJewish extraction. He was never pushy, but allowed me to ask questions and learn at my own pace.
    I do not like the "judge all by one" approach. What might be true of one parish may not be true of another. It all depends on how they are run, like other churches in other denominations.
