Joe Rock's the 80's like nobody else...that 5.7 TPI was an epic engine underneath the sexy sweet C4. Awesome Flashback Joe to Awesome Vettes' Awesome times!
Callaway sledgehammer corvette c4 is the ultimate 80s corvette period. Top speed over 257 mph. Absolute mind boggling for an 80s car. This is still a nice car here.
Thanks Joe. I enjoyed this video. My favorite corvette is the C3. I love that style. Hopefully you can find a restored model sometime and review it. I'd like to see you do more older cars. Great job Lori!
I'm familiar with the 1le Camaros but not these Corvettes, what were the suspension changes? I presume there must have been some small engine upgrades, were they blueprinted?
Gives me Ferrari vibes with the "challenge" moniker & red paint alone. All we need is a black horse badge. Seriously tho, great review & a piece of American motorsport history to behold 👍🏾
Very good review. Just a little extra info, 1988 was the last year of that Doug Nash 4+3 manual transmission. 1989 got the first true 6-spd. Unfortunately, manual transmissions in the C4 are pretty rare. Also, not all body parts from the C4 can be used on other C4 years. Some are different, particularly 1984 compared to the rest.
I own 84 c4 vett my self crossfire fuel injection and it runs beautifully I am the second owner of it myself and love it ! Just payed only $700.00 for it sweet deal
My ZR-1 is one of 54, but that's only because its a black 93 lol. I have a harness bar installed and that alone made a huge difference with the stiffness of the car.
Takes me back to my 80's days. All that show and no go however you can pick these C4's up for a great price and gives you a foundation to start inexpensive mods. The C4's in the 90's are far superior with more power.
@@thearkhamknight846 Oh I thought you were saying this one was a Sledgehammer like what lol? It wouldn't make sense for Chevy to revert it back to a factory trim after a Tuner touched it.
@@thearkhamknight846 Well to give you credit, the early & basic Callaways of the C4 gen. looked like any other vette at the time sine they didn't receive major cosmetic changes. However, the later C4s, especially the Twin Turbo variants, that looked dramatically different than this. Not to mention, special editions like the Super Natural variant, looked more like later generations of the Corvette. With the infamous Sledgehammer, it looked greatly different than this Challenge race car. I mean the car could've been co-tuned by Callawoy, but I don't think this is a Callaway special. Just a high-end factory vette.

The 1988 and earlier C-4's were 4 spd. cars (Doug Nash) I could only image the cries from those pussies of SCCA (Porche,Lotus ect.) If they raced against C-4's equipped with the ZF-6 six speed. (starting in 1989) Bottom Line: The C-4 Corvette was banned from SCCA racing by the competition for being to good ! ! ! Can Anyone Name Another Vehicle That Stomped A Larger Footprint In Technical Advancements In One Generation Than The C-4 ?
Interesting , I also found the 1988 Challenge Series events on UA-cam, They Say the 1988 Cars where 277 Hp and 377 Tq and the 1989 where 300 hp . Same L98 with a Computer chip change and Less Restrictive Exhaust.
This particular car was completely destroyed in a trailer fire along with car #20 and #34. This car 32 is a total recreation and NO LONGER a factory car. There is site created by Lance Miller and they track all information on these cars histories. I recently purchased #66 car.

Thank You guys! ✌☺️
That is so really awesome of you to say! Thanks for taking the time to watch and be part of the Raiti's Rides family!
You're truly a old school legacy just the way I am to look at any specific classic hot rod race car of one of these
Such an awesome and informative review! Your true passion for these cars really shows!! Thank you!!!
Love it! You did a great job presenting! Not only a collector, but a ticket into the world of vintage racing.
1989 Challenge cars had the ZF 6 speed and sooooo much smoother shifting and easier to live with !
Ive always wanted a c4. For some reason they look great!
They really do!
That's yet another cool looking corvette! Keep up the great videos Joe!
Thanks man! I really appreciate you letting me share it with you.
Mr. Raiti.. You sir have the best job on planet Earth. And Lori is awesome tech lady.

Those vents should be functional. They are on my '88. They are extractor vents that lower under hood presser, & extract heat.

Lori you did awesome!!!

Hey Alan! Engines were balanced and blueprinted. Suspension was Bilstein Z51 setup.

I own a 1994 LT1 I would love to see my car look as good as any of the track cars seen the sound, smell and visceral feel of all that unchanged power

Compare apples to apples though. Back during this time period C4 Corvettes were some of the best performing sports cars out there.

This specific car or a high end C4 in general?
