I remembered playing KotoR and loving Korriban. It's very interesting how they mixed themes of Ancient Egypt with (if i remember correctly) a volcano planet. I wish they put Korriban in Episode 9 instead of the remarkably disappointing Exegol

Disney has also said the next trilogy will take place prior to the Skywalker story which has lead to the rumors of it being the story of Revan. This of course has lead to the questions of just how much will be canonized and how much of Revan's story will actually be told.
I've noticed that everyone who was a Star Wars fan before Disney acquired SW, calls this world, including me, Korriban. Those who became SW fans after 2012 calls it Moraband but for us who was fans before calls it Korriban. I think Korriban is a better name
I’m replying to a 2 year old comment, but who cares. My thought with the whole “Moraband” thing is that might be a modern name for it. In the thousand or so years (more like 2,000) since the Jedi Order had any contact with Korriban, maybe it’s abandonment meant only a few Jedi knew of its location. One could see why the Jedi Council would want to keep Korriban a secret from the majority of the Jedi and galaxy at large. Over the millennia of it being unknown to most, the name got corrupted from Korriban to the similar sounding Moraband. My theory with Malachor V is fairly similar.

In the Darth Bane novels when Bane realises the Sith have lost their way (in a mirror image of how the jedi lost their way in the prequel era) and leaves the academy in search of dark side knowledge in the tombs he found Koriban to be basically dead and devoid of all its former dark side power. This is contradicted in the Disney canon clone wars when yoda find the tombs to be very active with ghosts of the former sith.
Right? Bane didn't even die on korriban. Why is his ghost even there? Hell, he shouldn't even have a ghost. He's damned to the void if I'm not mistaken.
Unfortunately the blame has to be partially split between Disney and George Lucas for this one on account of the fact that one scrapped Legends canon entirely, and the other (Being George) didn't like working with it all that much. So since the Bane novel falls under Legends canon, the only thing that's canon about the novel anymore- Insofar as the main continuity is concerned -is just Bane himself. So when the Clone Wars episode finally got to the episode of Korriban, Dave Filoni was only allowed so much by George at the time (Since it was George himself who turned down the idea of allowing Dark Side Force ghosts). So the fact that we got Bane at all was a miracle. On another note, George and then Disney is also responsible for being insistent of keeping Revan a part of Legends canon, which still has me bent out of shape.

Even so, I do not believe his method of mass destruction have such influence on the galaxy as Malachor V did. Where he consumes life, a silence is created, unlike the echo of past massacres. Perhaps such is only because his target was a Miraluka colony, rather than a densely populated world Telos was returning to, but Kataar's destruction was felt by few, if not none at all, and those that knew of the Miralukan people's declining population knew not of its cause.
@Ed Carone While the general technique is referred to as force drain, something Nihilus had unmatched prowess in, i was moreso referring to his ability to draw out the life of an entire planet, something that far outweighed his force draining aura.
I remember exploring Koriban in KOTOR 1 via every nook and cranny and wishing there was more. Then the plot twist was revealed: my mouth hung open, I shouted: “WHAT???!!!” And my controller slipped from my fingertips. This was about 2 years ago
@taniths 1st and only sgt iron on duty Korriban is also my favorite planet in KotOR, not so much in the second game but it's still cool there. Sith warrior is not my favorite class, Imperial Agent will always have that distinction but it is by far second on the list. Going for the light side choices on Tatooine for example was hilarious, because it's the fist time you see the Jedi breaking their precious rules. In a way it's far more satisfying to beat them in that manner.
Korriban was easily one of my favorite planets in KotOR. Once I knew the twist I went straight up full dark and kicked the shit out of everyone. Always ready for more Knights of the Old Republic content. Great video man as always.

The reason why Yoda was so scared and feared that place was the same reason Gandalf from lord of the Rings didn't dare pick up the ring that was on the floor. It's because both Yoda and Gandalf feared being turned to the dark side (yoda) and Gandalf being changed by the ring. Yoda and Gandalf both knew that given enough time that they couldn't hold their resolve and not realize that they have been turned. Yoda feared himself not being strong enough and eventually falling to the dark side, and the last thing the Galaxy needed is a strong Jedi like Yoda to become a Sith lord.
Very interesting comparison, I don't know that fear is quite the right word for it though. I would call it understanding, which is practically the opposite of fear. To wit, Yoda had already dueled with his own dark side and was in full control of it. I think it more likely that Yoda knew that the planet itself was just bad business and that the longer he stayed on it the harder it would become to get off of it in one piece. The fact that he went there at all indicates that he was not so scared as he was prepared to do it quick. Similarly, Gandalf was Mithrandir, basically a demi-god, with no birth or death. He also already wore one of the more powerful rings, given to him in trust by an elf-lord (what's his name, Elrond's cousin?). I recall he says something like "I dare not take it" when he sees Precious on the floor. The elf-queen later goes through the same trial with Frodo. Great power corrupts the individual who wields it. "With great power comes great responsibility." -Stan Lee (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one; totally trez apropos.) Keep in mind that Gandalf with the more recent help of Aragorn seeking to reclaim his kingdom, had been out to destroy the ring for centuries. He most certainly was not afraid of it. I mean, the guy battled demons...
with that.. lets say Yoda did fall to the dark side.. with his powers he is able to hide this fact from the others.. story moves forward as norm.. until he steps into Sidious office.. "A new apprentice you have.. dead.. he will be soon enough.."
Korriban is my favourite planet from Kotor 2, particularly the one tomb (whose tomb, I can't remember) where the Exile must face her inner demons. All the sequences, the flashbacks, being unsure how much of it was a memory projection and how much was bleeding out of the real world into the crazed world of the inside of the tomb... The whole atmosphere of the place. All of it was spot on.
Oh yes. It was the tomb of Ludo Kressh. And yes it was the best place the game had to offer. Some of the best lines are said there as well. Provided you pick the dialoges in a certain way of course. "Apathy is death"

If the explosion at the end of the Mandilorin War effected the other planets according to kotor2, than the draining should have had an effect. The effect just might have been subtle.
Well Nathema as well as Malachor or Ziost are artificial wounds in the force. It is death itself staring into your eyes when you are on the surface of theese planets. Force users and non force users alike dread theese places because of the wound that starts echoing within them as that wound also drains the force and life of those who walk the surface. I might be wrong tho. But to me theese worlds remind me of the famous quote: "If you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you". Unlike Korriban wich "only" corrupts people and potentially turns them to the dark side while the alternative is usually turning them insane. Theese worlds consume and feed on anything that lives and dares to walk on their surface.
I always liked the Plagueis book analysis of Korriban as a dusty dead planet with only feint echos - everything of note or importance removed by Jedi or Sith and a place only now for tourists. A neat twist on the dark hole hell de rigueur.
Got to think thousands maybe 10s of thousands over the course of a very long time the sith both fought and killed each other and jedi and even did blood sacrifices of jedi only someone like Yoda would be even able to step foot on that planet without going mad

What's funny is that Korriban was feared by the Jedi as being such a dark world but the rule of two Sith never cared about the planet due to it being devoid of much of its power in the dark side.
What about Ziost in legends? That was at least on par with Korriban Darkside wise. Let not forget that Ziost wasn't completely dead as a planet either. Ben Skywalker found a sith meditation sphere on it and used it to escape with a child from the Merc sent to kill him in tow.

Why did Yoda call it Moraban in the that Clone Wars Episope? In the Darth Plagueis novel. He had gotten upset with Sidiois for wanting to visit the Valley of the Dark Lords. I loved all the information this video had to offer and I've watched countless Stat Wars videos about the sith history and korriban but this video was by fat my favorite.
Yoda did not fear Korriban, he respected its powerful nature and remained sceptic about his ability to resist, but that is not fear but proper self awareness. Saying he Feared Korriban and being the greatest Jedi is a contradiction.
Both Anjunta Paul (Sith founder) and Revan (Rule of 2 founder), big contributors to the sith empire returned to the light side at the end which was pretty ironic.
Revan didn't found the Rule of Two; that was Darth Bane. That being said, however, Bane was heavily influenced in that decision by a holocron made by Revan that he found in the Rakatan temple on the Unknown World.
i have a very strong theory that the species name of Yoda is called , "THE JEDI RACE " and they have a pattern of adoption and not caring for their own genetic children. making for a child swap culture. This would also explain why a baby Yoda is taken care of by a non-Yoda , and the humans have a parental feelings towards it as it has evolved to gain symbiosis with adoptive species, THIS IS THE WAY. This would also explain the long life spans as doing this would need a very long time to find members of it's own species. The non-attachment among it's own kind would be an evolutionary trait , only to procreate , then return among the different species to adopt younglings of other species. This would suggest a very nomadic evolution.
The absolute terror of the dark side and the dead who still linger would keep me away. But the power of their teachings and their knowledge draws me to it.

Probably part of an important trade rout. They either had a refueling station there, or some kind of outpost intended to sniff out pirates, likely both. I can't imagine any unique resource they could get from that world would be very profitable What I can tell you is if they have a outpost there It is likely out of sheer necessity and nothing else, as anything less would be too much of a liability.
I really wish there were more lore videos about it. I remember one that talked about how Luke kept it a secret because the dark side power there was so immense he couldnt trust anyone save for Kyle Katarn to go there

Yoda and Gandalf both knew that given enough time that they couldn't hold their resolve and not realize that they have been turned.
Yoda feared himself not being strong enough and eventually falling to the dark side, and the last thing the Galaxy needed is a strong Jedi like Yoda to become a Sith lord.

Very interesting comparison, I don't know that fear is quite the right word for it though. I would call it understanding, which is practically the opposite of fear. To wit, Yoda had already dueled with his own dark side and was in full control of it. I think it more likely that Yoda knew that the planet itself was just bad business and that the longer he stayed on it the harder it would become to get off of it in one piece. The fact that he went there at all indicates that he was not so scared as he was prepared to do it quick.
Similarly, Gandalf was Mithrandir, basically a demi-god, with no birth or death. He also already wore one of the more powerful rings, given to him in trust by an elf-lord (what's his name, Elrond's cousin?). I recall he says something like "I dare not take it" when he sees Precious on the floor. The elf-queen later goes through the same trial with Frodo. Great power corrupts the individual who wields it.

Keep in mind that Gandalf with the more recent help of Aragorn seeking to reclaim his kingdom, had been out to destroy the ring for centuries. He most certainly was not afraid of it. I mean, the guy battled demons...

Korriban is my favourite planet from Kotor 2, particularly the one tomb (whose tomb, I can't remember) where the Exile must face her inner demons. All the sequences, the flashbacks, being unsure how much of it was a memory projection and how much was bleeding out of the real world into the crazed world of the inside of the tomb... The whole atmosphere of the place. All of it was spot on.
Oh yes. It was the tomb of Ludo Kressh. And yes it was the best place the game had to offer. Some of the best lines are said there as well. Provided you pick the dialoges in a certain way of course. "Apathy is death"

Bringing up the Star Forge, brought back some insane equations of what that thing was capable of.
It takes the same amount of energy of a 65 kiloton nuclear bomb to generate 2 grams of matter. That's 10 billion, billion watts of power, to make a single penny. That's roughly over 100K times the power generated world wide by us.
That equation might not hold in a universe with FTL Travel and magic.

If the explosion at the end of the Mandilorin War effected the other planets according to kotor2, than the draining should have had an effect. The effect just might have been subtle.
Well Nathema as well as Malachor or Ziost are artificial wounds in the force. It is death itself staring into your eyes when you are on the surface of theese planets. Force users and non force users alike dread theese places because of the wound that starts echoing within them as that wound also drains the force and life of those who walk the surface. I might be wrong tho. But to me theese worlds remind me of the famous quote: "If you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you". Unlike Korriban wich "only" corrupts people and potentially turns them to the dark side while the alternative is usually turning them insane. Theese worlds consume and feed on anything that lives and dares to walk on their surface.
Nathema has been healed as of the most current lore on the SWTOR game. Ziost is still barren due to vitiate literally devouring it

I always liked the Plagueis book analysis of Korriban as a dusty dead planet with only feint echos - everything of note or importance removed by Jedi or Sith and a place only now for tourists.
A neat twist on the dark hole hell de rigueur.

Got to think thousands maybe 10s of thousands over the course of a very long time the sith both fought and killed each other and jedi and even did blood sacrifices of jedi only someone like Yoda would be even able to step foot on that planet without going mad

Damn I loved the games of Kotor 1 and 2.
2 was actually a better game, if you play it dark side it literally feels like you're the main character in breaking bad. Every step just takes you further into hell, even winning at the end feels like losing

How does a planet like this so seeped in dark side energy, compare to a planet like Dathomir thats also full of dark side energy, but at a more natural way? Would a traveler still feel the same energy? Would one be more dangerous (not counting inhabitants of any kind just the planet itself)

What about Ziost in legends? That was at least on par with Korriban Darkside wise. Let not forget that Ziost wasn't completely dead as a planet either. Ben Skywalker found a sith meditation sphere on it and used it to escape with a child from the Merc sent to kill him in tow.

I actually wondered if you were going to mention Nathema..Nathema is pretty horrifying too. Sucked dry of every drop of not just life, but the Force right down to color. Truly a horrifying empty shell. It's mentioned in the book Revan and it's a place that leaves an impression.

Why did Yoda call it Moraban in the that Clone Wars Episope? In the Darth Plagueis novel. He had gotten upset with Sidiois for wanting to visit the Valley of the Dark Lords.

Yoda did not fear Korriban, he respected its powerful nature and remained sceptic about his ability to resist, but that is not fear but proper self awareness. Saying he Feared Korriban and being the greatest Jedi is a contradiction.

Both Anjunta Paul (Sith founder) and Revan (Rule of 2 founder), big contributors to the sith empire returned to the light side at the end which was pretty ironic.
Revan didn't found the Rule of Two; that was Darth Bane. That being said, however, Bane was heavily influenced in that decision by a holocron made by Revan that he found in the Rakatan temple on the Unknown World.

i have a very strong theory that the species name of Yoda is called , "THE JEDI RACE " and they have a pattern of adoption and not caring for their own genetic children. making for a child swap culture. This would also explain why a baby Yoda is taken care of by a non-Yoda , and the humans have a parental feelings towards it as it has evolved to gain symbiosis with adoptive species, THIS IS THE WAY. This would also explain the long life spans as doing this would need a very long time to find members of it's own species. The non-attachment among it's own kind would be an evolutionary trait , only to procreate , then return among the different species to adopt younglings of other species. This would suggest a very nomadic evolution.

@@null7879 just wondering. It said that they didnt paid to much attention to Korriban. So why do they own it for? The reason to own a planet is probably because of a exclusive resource found only there or that its close to a very important Hyperspace Lane or route.
Probably part of an important trade rout. They either had a refueling station there, or some kind of outpost intended to sniff out pirates, likely both. I can't imagine any unique resource they could get from that world would be very profitable
What I can tell you is if they have a outpost there It is likely out of sheer necessity and nothing else, as anything less would be too much of a liability.
