Omg, you had me at that one ripping low note that went _KRUUUNNGGG_ like 5 seconds in! I'm an electric heavy rock guitarist and you sounded _ELECTRIC_ Never heard any acoustic instrument do that; it almost sounded like it was boosted by a distortion pedal.
The whole piece is informed by your elegant tone, blazing chops, and superb, singing vibrato. Beautiful stuff, really. 🖤
YES THERE SHOULD am a double bass play now in Advance orchestra
im gonna hearth attact soon. what a great part - 6:33
Such an underrated instrument.. More solos should be written for double bass.
Projection is the problem. Really hard to hear a bass over the orchestra
It was written for the violin tho
Tobi Ggs nobody said it wasn’t
There is a considerable amount of solo pieces for the doublebass; You could check out the channel "Doublebasscore" for a couple examples!
Not underrated. But I understand you.
Never seen a bass soloist before with such range
She got reach vro
Welcome to bass solos
you gotta check out edgar meyer, and compositions by domenico dragonetti, bottesini and frank proto! they're amazing
she's one of many with that big of a range
Watch how Prof. Božo Paradžik plays his double bass as well!
Man, his Schindler's List is something... though somebody said it have flaws but I personally thinks the flaws which make the stage performance so awesome, sounds like a person with mental breakdown with weeping but actually wanted to shout voice =O
And Rinat Ibragimov =O
I absolutely love his interpretation for Bottesini Double Bass No. 2 in B Minor!
And Mikyung Sung is pretty good! I was wow-ed by her Tarantella, which she played it in an international competition!
she practices 40 hours a day. i aspire to be as great as her.
She's a Ling Ling ❤❤
Double bass ling ling! Interesting...
Lmao
one of the very few bassist ling lings
@@linamezzi3534 Is it supposed to be a compliment?
Literally the most underrated orchestral instrument in my opinion
I dunno, the triangle seems pretty underrated to me...
All jokes aside, I completely agree with you. I suggest checking out the LSO's recording of Bottesini's second double bass concerto, it's the first piece that really made me appreciate this instrument.
@@orlandoavogadro I loved bass 12 years ago when I first played it and never looked back, the instrument is the most beautiful sounding string instrument, we have cello range if needed and that very low contra range that makes you feel good inside
Together with the Viola.
Lauren Pierce is among the best double-bassists in the world, demonstrating her virtuosity in coaxing the maximum musicality from this instrument. She is the inspiration for many others, young and old alike. Most do not realize the range or capabilities of this huge instrument. Thank you, Lauren, for your love of the double-bass!
I’m a double bassist, and I believe the instrument is the most beautiful of all the string instruments.
Me too
Me too
I agree.
Same as a bassist we have the most range of any string instruments, we can hit violin high notes and pure low rumble of a low B string or C extension
Ever heard or seen an Octobass?
In my 21 years of playing violin, I've never heard a bassist playing this piece. Nor would I have ever imagined hearing a bassist play this very difficult piece. Bravo. Absolutely amazing.
I finally got a double bass a few weeks ago and I’m so excited to become a professional like this one day
Mrs. Fahrenheit if this doesn’t inspire you - nothing will :-). Best of luck in your pursuit!!
Congratulations! I can't wait to see your first video :)
a professor once told me "no matter what age one starts playing the double bass, one will allways should have started about 10 years earlier"... anyway I wish you a succesful journey in such a beautiful but demanding instrument
I hope do become just as good as Lauren!
I just got my bow on mine last week, it was a french bow and it was awsome because i always wanted to use a bow on something like a Cello or bass and now i can play 👍
9:54 his reaction - WTF are you doing first viol...oh you people... -
Fabolous!! I´m 14 years old doublebass player and Lauren is my favarite double bassist. Is the best
That is so sweet to hear. Thank you for telling me this :)
@@LaurenPierceBass Omg!!!!!! Lauren say me thank you. One the happiest days of my life :):):):)
I love that low E at 0:46 - it sounds like the devil himself is "burping in hell" (and I mean that as a compliment!).
Lovely articulation..
btw its a D note
@@andrewyang9874 Hmmm.. well spotted..but that seems weird, because many soloists tune their bass up 2 semitones, whereas, to produce a D, as you say, that would mean tuning down 2 semitones.. perhaps this piece lends itself to a lower tuning?
@@Pensivata I tune my top 3 strings to solo tuning (up a whole step) but my low string is tuned down to a low D :)
@@LaurenPierceBass Ah ha - mystery solved! (tks). But that's not normal for solo tuning, is it? Or perhaps its just this for piece that the low string is tuned to D?
@@Pensivata Correct. She's using an unusual tuning for this piece.
Standard orchestral: EADG
Standard solo: F#BEA
I love how she feels the music, it really shows how she loves doing what she does
I mean, this is just absolutely stunning. The purity of tone, the astounding fluidity, and mainly the expressiveness and phrasing...my God. This is one for the ages right here. Lauren is a total phenom. The conductor and the rest of the section were incredible too.
This is just incredible, how many years has she been playing to reach this level of mastery it's astonishing
This performance is amazing! She makes her bass sing, and takes advantage of the musicality in both high and low octaves.
I do appreciate the little white dots for finger positioning though, it reminds me that the performer is human lol.
I am a 6th grader my name is Sophia and I play the double bass o started when I was in 5th grade at the height of 4'10 It was hard but my 5th grade orchestra teacher was a mean person and made me doubt myself which made me want to quit but when i saw this video and met my 6th grade orchestra teacher i wanted to play again so i picked up my bass and started playing again and when I tell you everybody looked at me big eyed it's like "Why are you all so Shocked?" It's like a cello but bigger and it's notes and octaves are lower And i chose the bass because i knew i would get into it.i mean come on who else would play a instrument that big i mean the full size is 6'0 so this video inspired me to play double bass. The double bass can be sad or it can be happy but then i wanted to start playing jazz on the bass but i gotta learn more things if i wanna do that and that's why I'm gonna be A good double bass player!
Wow to say you're a virtuoso of the double bass would be an understatement. i didn't even knew the double bass could do such high pitches, and you do them with mastery and expression, which is even more appreciable!
She brought the bass to a whole mother level for me when it comes to classical music🤯🔥
But there is a ton of others before her ,no worse .
god bless the inventor of double bass its such a beautiful instrument
It’s incredible to watch the musician get into the moment, their expressions, their movement. They become the music.
Fingers made from Metal ? 😭
😂😂😂
Obviously!!!
Just tons of hours practicing
@@MatijaJimiZabaKasaic she practices for 40 hours a day
@@randompasserby1076 but does she change b natural to b-flat?
This is just an inspiring performance and an uplifting moment for all female double bassists, so much personal sound went into that, bravo and thank you!
This piece honestly sounds so much better with a double bass virtuoso...it adds..a..je sais pas...fuller voice...it's magnificent!
Her Smile in the en though 😍☀️
Watch till the end . There's a suprise !
Btw that was so nice that you celebrated the conductor’s birthday! They do so much! Cheers!
Understanding the pain of trying to play a bass (as anyone could tell it's quite a large instrument), I must say, this is astounding talent. Not only are her movements fast, but they are precise. I practically cannot keep track of the positions she plays in XD well done
Can we talk about this part 6:30 - 7:20 !!
That was insane, I mean your face expression at the beginning of that section. How did that feel? I know you were living that melody! That was insane and beautiful! Bravo!! For this kinds of things is that I keep playing the bass! Such inspiration!
Wow, this gave me such a different perspective of the bass.
Absolutely fantastic performance! The melancholy melody in the passage starting at 5:28 and ending at 7:25 blows me away, and really lends itself to the double bass.
is it normal to feel it in your heart !! Cello and double bass always have a thing to them they speak to your soul, as if the musician is trying to tell you a story perhaps!! and the same piece can never be played the same way by different musician and I think this is what gives the performance its unique spirit.
Exquisite, very well played! I love that smile right at the end!
I can’t help but imagine, every time I see a Double Bassist, that when they got the interest in learning to play, they initially thought cello, then someone said, “Cello is too big for ya.” Then they said, “Ha, we’ll see about that! Cello has a big brother!”
Well done! I’ll be showing this to my class ... every day ...
Oh my I had never seen nor heard anything like this! What a pleasant surprise thankyou UA-cam and certainly this artist. Life, for a moment has been transformed, nothing else except my faith could give me such a fulfillment! My congratulations to all you musicians who share your talents with us rock-on.
Originally Sarasate conceived this jewel piece for violin and orchestra.
It s amazing how this great Bass Player Performs so well with dexterity and great musical expression such a difficult piece.
Basses are heavy instruments!!!
Congratulations.
That was incredible, made the bass sound more like a cello. I am totally gobsmacked at the brilliance
Outstanding! Sounds like the range of a cello meets a violin...
Wow. Didnt know it could go that high. Amazing!
I can tell she was so proud at the end. That made the entire video even better. Love your videos.
Divine. I closed my eyes for most of it just to drink in that tone.
i went to college with Lauren. She's always sounded amazing!
Wonderful everyone! Lets here it for the most amazing double bassist in the whole world!!👏👏👏
I just love all the quirky expressions and things true, beautiful musicians do.. Thank you!!!
This performance is flawlessly well played! Makes me have even more pride in my instrument!
What the hell... the extent of human capabilities never ceases to amaze.
There were more “but how” moments in this video for me than I’ve seen in a long time, not to mention the sheer passion of the middle section. This is a genuinely incredible performance and I look forward to seeing more videos from you like this.
New video to start off a new year! Great job :)
I didn't know that a double bass could sound so wonderful!!!! that is so cool!!!!
Mesmerizing 🌻
This is so beautiful! 👏👏👏👏
Absolutely amazing!
Just amazing ! My emotions are crushed!
Simply perfect!
I love her so much, really inspires me to continue learning
Lovely as always!
OMG!!!! This is friggen AMAZING!! This piece is hard enough on a violin and nearly impossible on a double bass! Truly, Lauren is gifted beyond imagination!!!!
What a performance. Bravo LP!!
Stunning performance. All that emotion!!
Magnificent Ms. Pierce! You are an inspiration.
Simply amazing. Pure talent!
Toujours aussi agréable de vous écouter !
ça déchire grave !!! this is so good !! cheers , bravo !!!!

The bass speaks to the soul. Absolutely incredible.
Absolutely beautiful! Incredible Lauren! You know the Bass like the back of your Hand! Superb!
Fantastic job lauren!
Lauren, this performance is SO badass. Thanks for all the energy you put into playing and making those wonderful teaching videos. You're the real deal.
That open note @ 0:45 rattled my soul and sent me back to speak to my ancestors
Finally had a moment to sit down and watch without being distracted. Loved the performance Lauren. Congratulations, sounded amazing! :)
This is beautiful. There is such skill, elegance and beauty in your playing. Undeniably one of the best. Amazing!
Everytime I watch you I get even more captivated and excited to one day play pieces like this on my bass
Absolutely superb... what a wonderful performance !
Phenomenal! I enjoyed every second of that performance! Lovely arrangement, too. I will be forwarding this to my budding bass players! You’re an inspiration. Thanks for uploading!
I just watched the performance of this that you did four years ago. You’re improvement is astonishing, and I cannot wait to see more!
This is absolutely beautiful. The double bass is a lovey solo instrument, and Lauren is is a Maestro.
This piece was played incredibly!!! It sounded great, and was filled with so much emotion. Marvelous job!!!

Adorei, execução perfeita. Parabéns!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Awesome adaptation and performace, and the recording is so great this can be used as a reference music to test the bass of anyone's audio set up.
This woman is amazing! I love her hands.
Magical. Thank you so much.
Your playing is absolutely magical. Your sense of line and phrase, your control... Its all just perfect! Respect.
As always, a flawless, expressive and truly magnificent performance! IMO, you are the most underrated double bassist on the planet at this time.
