Just gorgeous, her overall technique and tone just floor me. She plays with such grace, just wonderful.
Again, I am in awe of Mikyung's talent and ease which she plays. Just amazing and flawless technique. She has a bright future ahead of her. Wondering whether she'll continue with a solo career or play with a major orchestra. If I saw her come through the front door of an auction, , I'd pack up my bass and go home! Brava!
For now Mikyung is not looking at orchestras that I know of. (She did play as a principal in Shanghai in 2018-19.) She's raising her son, seems well supported by her husband, and seems more interested in playing solo and small ensemble music.
If she did audition for an orchestra, I think she'd do better in Germany than in the US. For a top American orchestra, she'd probably need to borrow a different bass and change her technique, especially on the lower strings, to get a more solid bassy sound, while also focusing more on strict rhythm for orchestral repertory instead of her natural expressiveness. I also think she would want to try only for 1st chair positions, because her sitting 2nd chair would make most principals nervous. (The Berlin Philharmonic would be an exception where she could happily be a section player and nobody would care that she wasn't principal. It's also a great orchestra for its many chamber ensembles and time off for musicians to pursue other projects, while also being probably the most visible to global audiences.)
I also personally think that her talents would be the most wasted playing in an orchestra of any bassist I can think of - you'd barely ever get to hear what makes her so brilliant!
I love double bass so much!!
glaze to the max
LOVE how expressively every single note was played! This is one of the best renditions that I have ever heard. The warmth and subtle variations of her beautiful tone color are simply sublime!
Tears in my eyes...
That is exceptionally well performed (having won the Haddonfield Symphony Competition on it in 1986). Such artistry and power on ANY voice, much less the double bass, is a remarkable achievement. More to the point, ALL instrumentalists should be so obsessed with SHAPING phrases like a vocalist, SINGING,or dancing or animating THRU our instruments, always!
This has always been one of my favorite Concertos for Bass. Much more so than the Dragonetti or Koussevitsky Concertos. I've just heard the first movement. Very solid and well performed. Her intonation, bow control and articulation was excellent. She did well with this somewhat unwieldly instrument. Bravo!
Que hermosura poder escuchar esta interpretancion de Botessini, tan limpia y alegre. Aspiro a ser un dia como vos
totally fascinating playing +++
Wow, she makes it sound like a violin!
I adore this song. It takes an insane amount of time and technique for something like this and I hope to be able to play like this one day.
Wouah Mikyung Sung je vous admire de très loin ! Quelle précision, son et vibrato extraordinaire ! Meilleure version de ce concerto ! ✨Hâte d'arriver à cette perfection
A lovely bass player who has such a consummate technique and expressive phrasing in this charming work.
Love the playing gestures and the sound character. I love his full and resonant harmonics, crisp, clean, roundness, and the overall echo very much 🫂🥰🥰🥰🥰♥️🧡🧡🧡💛💜💜🌹🌹💐🎻🎻
Btw, i also love her Fresh Cherry Red - Coloured Bass 🍒🍒🍧 🍭🌌🤓😆🤫🤭
🍷🎆🥇🚪🔮🔆🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🎻🎻🎻💛💛💛
Excelente solista, vibrato ao ponto.
I simply love this rendition of the Bottesini 2, so much feeling. It is my favourite rendition of my favourite piece for my favourite instrument. Thanks for the music.
Impresionante!!! Que maravilla!! Bravo!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
A wonderful performance! This concerto has it all! The first movement starts almost like a dance, and you make the double bass sound as light and cheerful as I have ever heard it. The movement also shows off your range with the instrument when your hand slides off the fingerboard around 4:36 and makes clear high notes like you were playing a violin. The second movement slows down and your heartfelt playing brings out deep emotions. There is longing in some parts like at 10:02, but parts like the opening and ending sound deeply peaceful. So lovely. The dance comes back in the opening of third movement, but is faster than before. The whole movement highlights your dexterity, making that large instrument dance like Sarasate with violin. I just love this concerto. Thank you. 🤩 😍
BRAVO!!!
GENIAAAAAA! BRAVO!
Tremendous playing!
Beautiful playing!
genial, genial!!
Wow, brilliant performance.
Linda performance ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Gorgeous! This is the first video that made me love double bass as a solo instrument, and you as a performer. It's still one of my very favorite double bass videos.
Thanks!
Inspiring perfomance ! Bravo !
Bravo
Maravillosa interpretación, la disfrute hasta el final!
Brava Brava Mikyung. Best wishes
Bravo whooooo
Simplemente divino!
Brava 👏🏽🎶 a
...braaaaavooooooo!
so so fine !
She makes the double bass sound so natural and not like the weird cousin of string concertos. No offense to my DB homies
You just started a war…
감사합니다.
Thank you!!!!!
🚒🔥🔥🔥
wow
Mikyung, please tell us about the maker and model of your bass, and also your strings setup. To me, your bass looks like a Quenoil pattern? And your strings spirocore solo?
Mikyung plays a 3/4-size 1951 Charles Quenoil, and you're correct about the strings!
很特別的樂器。就像男低音,很少有獨奏曲。那麼粗的弦拉起來也很不容易。
