Love my GTI 40AE. I think the homelink mirror - with compass and garage opener - is an option. Mine has it. You forgot to mention the best feature of the 40th, and the option that makes this the best value proposition - the adaptive chassis controls!!
I sure did forget to mention that ! And interesting I know they had a nother one on the lot I’ll have to hop on the website and see if that one has the homelink mirror!

I also have a 40 and I do have garage opener on my mirror with compass and night dimmer
I’ve heard this quite a bit since I’ve gotten mine I don’t know if it was a supply chain thing or a package deal but unfortunately I don’t have one
I've put 600 miles on our 40th AE. What do you mean "numb"? I've never missed a shift, it's beautiful. Our car was equipped with Homelink mirror, which is nice.
we just bought a red one on saturday. was a bit bummed about the sun roof. we also have a 2023 atlas cross sport and that has the sunroof that we love. ( we accidentally left it open last week while we were at denny's and it rained for a little bit). at least that won't be a worry for the golf. lol. i love the splash lights on the golf. it's a second car for us that won't get driven much for a cpl years til the boy turns 16. he's geeked about it. for now, it will be a zip around car for appointments or whatever when wife isn't home. i had a red 87 gti when i was around his age. we back full circle now! lol
That’s so awesome I bet your boy is super stoked they are so much fun and that does definitely suck with the sunroof ! I had a C6 corvette and left the targa off one time to come back and find it had rained and had a small puddle on the floors which was a bummer !

Traded my 2015 gti for a 40th AE dsg. Although i miss the manual. Im glad i made the switch.
They are definitely fun cars my wife came from a mk7 she had an accident in it and it did absolutely everything right to keep her and our daughter safe and then my first GTI was a mk6 and it was a blast !
First off I just want to say that I really enjoy your content. I recently picked up the exact same model 40th anniversary edition. And mine came with the garage door opener and the compass included. Most likely, yours did not come with it because of chip shortages depending on the manufacturing date. My GTI was manufactured in 5/23

I think it's kind of annoying to hear these reviewers complaining about the infotainment system when in reality it's not that big of a deal I think it took me two days to kind of figure everything out and now I do it like second nature
@@GLI_1701 i definitely agree it’s really not that bad sure it’s got some hiccups but it’s Volkswagens first generation of the button less system although it sounds like they may be reverting back to buttons after the back lash from it
I really like both of your GTIs, I have a 23’ SE and it’s so much fun modding and driving! That’s crazy how they skimped on the rearview mirror, the moonroof makes sense like you said about weight savings but dang I agree it would’ve been nice for the option. Also agree on the wheel well bumpers, those things would be gone on my car too! I’m curious, what are your thoughts on the honey comb vinyl on the sides, I didn’t care for it too much on a red one I saw at a local dealership but it actually looks pretty good on your color. Will you be taking the decals off? Love the channel been watching all your projects, the Datsun, the STi, and the GTI. It’s good content and I appreciate it!
That’s awesome thank you for keeping up with the channel so long I appreciate it ! I actually don’t mind the honey comb vynil along with the vynil 40 . I’m neither for or against it although I do think it breaks up the body lines nicely at the bottom !

The biggest difference as others had already mentioned, is the DCC. That’s an amazing feature to have and it makes a big difference on the ride quality. Awesome car dude! Congratulations!
Weighted shorter knob fixed the shifter I hated it love it now
Any recommendations? What did you end up using?

Those little nubs of plastic on wheel arches are a legal requirement in UK where I live so they could put wider wheels on I think
That’s interesting to know is it about catching road debris from hitting other vehicles?

Trying to decide between the S and a 40th. Is the material on the doors different?
Yes it is the inserts are alcantara and the arm portion is leather , you also get the adaptive dampers which in my opinion is well worth the extra bit !
I agree with you about the manual transmission. It's hard to know which gear you're in or supposed to be in beyond 1st & 2nd. The Civic Si gearbox is better for shifting I think.
I haven’t actually driven a new civic or at all I haven’t driven a civic newer than 2012 I think
I have a 40th as well and my mirror has all the garage opener buttons and compass. Wonder if it was supply shortage because it's definitely supposed to come with it.
Everyone else has one but me I wonder if I could get one and it plug and play
@@octane_media That's a good question. Maybe contact VW directly or the dealership to have the correct one installed. I know some of the Autobahn GTI people got the base infotainment instead of the Harmon Kardon due to parts availability issues.
@@KMFDM781 that’s pretty rough if you spend 50+ thousand on an r and got the base sound system !
@@octane_media Not the R but the Autobahn trim with the leather and better stuff. I'd still be pissed!
@KMFDM781 It's an option. Easy to install one, seen them new around $270. I installed one in our Subaru, wiring harness connector was in the car. The VW install looks much easier.
There is no STI anymore. RIP.
Definitely sad that it has been dropped I do think it has to do a lot with the GR Corolla because Toyota has a controlling hand in the company it would be less competition without the STI being an option

I had a 17 GTI sport in white 6 spd loved it but happy with dsg lol
